Studio to Zbrush tutorials?
Cris, Zbrush paint even on not UVs models , you don't need UVs to do the all job in Zbrush , you can model , paint, texture and do all job and at the end create UVs or import one .
However if you want to edit an external textures you created before with other program you need to bake it into polypaint group by group no matter what UVs or no UVs at all and this did not changed since Victoria 1 . You can't even create UDIM UVs in Zbrush, and the moment you edit them they will colapse into overlapped uvs so what is so special about when using Zbrush ? nothing
The only huge advantage of the UDIM UV's is Mari and Modo as they need it so the model can be easy processed and textured .
So if you use mari or modo with Zbrush you are in good spot, if you use DS and Zbrush nothing change
Zbrush don't read material file mtl so it will never load sny textures with the model and the process need to be done manually .
but as Richard said above , we all hope Z5 version will do that but I read that there will be one more version before 5 ..
The UV's really not matter in this case if you have overlaped or not when working with polypaint but the exporter plugin do nice job , still you have to do all the same process , Zbrush still have just 1 texture channel and zero support for tiled UVs so not much changed.
G3 is much more suited for working with ZBrush as it has tiled UVs (the UVs aren't collapsed over each other in the 0-1 UV space like earlier generations). When you export textures for G3, I find the Multi Map Exporter does the job.
True, but you can paint right away with the Genesis 3 Female and output with MME where you needed to do some work to be able to do that with previous Genesis from my experience (tiling the uvs prior to importing to ZB).
Cath, I realize that, but I was referring to someone bringing in G3 models and wanting to export textures based on the G3 uvs. In that case, the model is already set up and is easy to use.
Where can I ghet Genesis 3 ?Does not appear to be included in my daz 4.8 downlaod and have searched the shop but only thing that shows up is victoria 7 bundles. Is this the only way to get bas G3 ?
[By the way I'm a Carrara user]
Thanks
Well then don't bother unless you render her as an obj export or something, the duf file crashes Carrara

NEW! Novica & Invited Guest Contributors Tips & Product Reviews Pt 6Yep, before you ask, using Merlin's Knight Pavilion again for the backdrop- this time it's the calendar texture!
Novarys for Genesis 3 Female(s) has Leyton Hair (Genesis 2 & 3) and is wearing Summer Trend Outfit. (Genesis 3) IMPORTANT: Shown is the top (with the two women together) as "out of the box" and it does NOT have any smoothing or collision whatsoever, and the three figures I've tried it on, it always comes out looking quite rough. You should consider putting the smoothing to at least 4 and the collision somewhere between 4-6 and test it. (Don't forget or you'll possibly be wasting time on a render that may look pretty ragged under the breasts.) The one with Novarys by herself, you can see the difference it made when smoothing and collision were added.
I also wanted a pinkish top so I changed the Diffuse color to .54 / .42 / .39
Selina (Genesis 3) is wearing Christina Hair and has on the TOA Divine outfit. The material zones are nicely organized so you can make the midriff bare and get a totally different look. All the TOA's are worth a look!
I used the same lighting for both women so I could compare. (The second Apocalyptic set, (Corridor) with one front distant light, the lumen was 45 and it was a light mauve (almost a white.) Selina turned out more tanned.
One of the poses is from Capsces Fun and Flirty Victoria 7.
Btw, I think I mentioned it before, but if you are doing zombie poses or want a great variety of poses, the Pitfall Poses (Victoria 7) are good.
NEW! Novica & Invited Guest Contributors Tips & Product Reviews Pt 6I've had SoulessEmpathy's Castle Turret on my wishlist for some time, so when I saw it on fast grab the other day, I bought it. I'm finding it has good 3DL textures and interior lights right out of the box and many spots inside and out for setting scenes. Here are 5 renders that show what I mean.
Scene 1: Inside the central spiral staircase next to the door leading to the roof. The figure is Victoria 6 wearing Fayre for Genesis Female(s) clothing, using textures from Spritely for Fayre and Buenaventura Hair For Genesis 2 Female(s) and Male(s). I did nothing for the lighting - it's what you get when you load the set. The door loads closed, there's a parameter slider to open/close it. I find the steps a bit out of scale as it's a big step for Victoria.
Scene 2: On the roof looking back to the central staircase. I added a cloak from Medieval Cloaks for Genesis 2 Female(s) with a texture from Capable for the Medieval Cloaks. I also added a staff from Enchanted Wings and FirstBastion's skydome. The outdoor lights loaded way too bright, so I had to reduce the sunlight and ambient lights in half to avoid washed out textures.
Scene 3: This is one of the middle floors. Michael 6 with Order of the Wolf armor and Ancient Combat Hair for Genesis 2 Male(s) hair. Sword is short sword from Weapons of War. This is the first time I used Order of the Wolf and it loads the props without the textures so be sure to add them including the second skin for Michael so he's wearing the chain mail.
Scene 4: The same location but with a wide-angle camera at a new position. I like the mix of stone and wooden features on the interior scenes.
Scene 5: This set is not a complete castle, but you can use it for closeup outside scene as there are two ramparts leading to the central turret.
G2 Skin Map Help NeededCorrect. My mistake. It is the skin that came with V6. The preset name is V6 Belle.

weighting the boneshi everybody!! I have a very naive question, but... I have tried to rig characters, very simple characters, re topologized in zbrush, very light polys... I never get a really convincing rig... painting the weight, there is always a part wich tear the shape... well, not when rigging a cylinder, but a little more complicated, I never get a succesful rigged character... OK, animation is sometghing I do sometimes, and so I don't have a lot of practice... and i suppose that Victoria 4 or Michael, and so on, are rigged in carrara, and they work pêrfectly...
so, waht is the secret?? or, at less, a path to try again??? in C 8,5 pro, there is only one option: the brush to paint weight, and it's very rough, I think...
The We Are All Prime Numbers Complaint ThreadI am waiting for my $90 dress to arrive. KMart sent it using UPS. UPS then transfered the package to the U.S. Postal Service. I hope the post office did not misplace my dress. The post office misplaced my AC adapter and some books that I bought a few months ago.
If they lose it, you will have to change your name to Victoria and buy a sword. I hope your package shows up quickly.
The dress arrived. The package sat at the post office for one and a half days. I forgot to mention that I bought the dress when it was on sale for $15. It has spaghetti straps, a lace skirt and rhinestones around the waist.
You got a great bargain. I'm glad it finally got there. USPS just gets worse and worse. I got the same birthday(?) card in my mailbox 5 times, addressed to someone else, different house number, and different street. Each time I marked the envelope and put it back it the box. The last time I got out my red Sharpie and marked all over it, circling my previous comments. It hasn't come back and I truly hope the intended recipient finally got it.
Genesis 2 Legacies: Stylish questionsModern Wizard... when you are transferring your morphs, be sure to do the head morphs separate from the body morphs. I don't know the exact reason this makes better transfers, but it does. When transferring head morphs, in the target area, choose "Morph" then select the Genesis 2 Female Head (or Genesis 2 Female Body if that is what you are working on). Likewise, if you are transferring a morph that uses Victoria 6, Girl 6 or Aiko 6, etc. as the base character, you would choose the head that corresponds. As for the arms, I set the pose on the arms to match G3F base pose, and since the morphs being transferred are just the changes in the position of the geometry, and not a change in pose, they should transfer without any modification on your part. Should you happen to be transferring a morph that is different for some reason (some vendors may change the base pose, maybe), just make sure that you use Adjust Orientation when you Adjust Rigging to Shape. Otherwise things like the fingers and toes can get really messed up.
There is a great thread in the forum started by Kattey that has tons of useful information in much greater detail than I could give you here. If you haven't checked it out already, I highly recommend it.

Genesis 2 Legacies: Stylish questionsHi WolfSpirit... I'd be happy to answer your questions.
1. You do NOT need to own the G2 figures to use this product. So, in a way, you are getting four Genesis 2 characters (that you may not have already) for a very good price with all of the beautiful bending and expression capabilities of Genesis 3.
2. What this statement means is that a "perfect" match to Genesis 2 shapes is not possible because the mesh is quite different, so for example the lip lines might be tighter on Genesis 2 because there are more polygons in that area than Genesis 3. Using a simple transfer of the shapes using the Transfer Utilitity (which many people do themselves) will not be able to transfer that tight lip line automatically because of the lack of geometry in that area. I took the transferred shapes into ZBrush and moved geometry around a bit, refining shapes that were not transferred cleanly and tightened up feature to get them much closer to the original Genesis 2 versions than is possible with a simple Transfer Utiltity operation. So the distortions are eliminated with this product, yes.
3. The optimized version of Genesis 2 Base Female is so that anyone wishing to transfer additional morphs from Genesis 2 to Genesis 3 can transfer them to a female base that does not have the issues that the autofit clone has (which is what most people are using to make their transfers). The autofit clone does not need to be perfect to simply make clothing fit to Genesis 3, therefore it is not the best base to use for transferring morphs from Genesis 2 to Genesis 3. For example, the autofit clone has messed up teeth and the fingernails and toenails are inverted (flipped normals). Additionally, the eyeballs have lost some roundness and the eyelashes are not perfect. In the optimized base female, I have corrected those issues.
4. G3F textures work beautifully on the Legacy Shapes. All of the promotional images you see have Genesis 3 textures on them.
I hope I answered your concerns enough to help you decide whether you want to purchase the set. If you like it, there are 2 other sets in my store covering Victoria 6, AIko 6, Gia, and many of the other Genesis 2 Females. Additionally, I will have a version for the males when Genesis 3 Male is released to the store. It will contain Michael 6, Gianni 6, Scott 6, Darius 6, and Lee 6
Has commercial imperative destroyed artistic thought? But it typically takes MacGyver about four pages of text to get to the point. As bad as reading Faulkner. :)
Art is art only when someone says it's art and art by itself, never calls itself art because it prefers to leave that judgement to the viewer... And more often than not, the viewer reserves that judgement for the call of the critic or expert and they call art what they feel to be art based on what that call will bring them and less on what may or may not be art to others. This may be the best description of 'art' I've ever read.

See, I told you all he was a genius.
Too bad that I pooped out reading his post before I got to the good part.
Finally my writing has been compared to Faulkner instead of Ted Kaczynski! It's from Faulkner's mid 50s newspaper interview that I took this piece of wisdom:
"Let the writer take up surgery or bricklaying if he is interested in technique. There is no mechanical way to get the writing done, no shortcut. The young writer would be a fool to follow a theory. Teach yourself by your own mistakes; people learn only by error. The good artist believes that nobody is good enough to give him advice. He has supreme vanity. No matter how much he admires the old writer, he wants to beat him."
I have taken this to mean:
Before writing anything you should preform either surgery or build a brick wall... Possibly both... When writing don't use a typewriter or writing robot... Write way more than any sane person is willing to read (especially now in these days of Twitter)... Don't pay attention to spelling, punctuation, grammar or the order in which you write words that's for boring people and angry frustrated Literature teachers... Make lots of mistakes, especially spelling... Try developing a bit of alcoholism and then learn from that and develop some madness instead and then right before you die, regret it all in a short, but long story about someone just like you but with a mustache and who is not you who learns something import yet undefined at last... Never take anyone's advice especially sound or reasonable advice... Make random rash decisions... Dress up like Napoleon or Liberace... Beat up old people who write stuff...
I try my best to follow these suggestions... Recently I snuck up and whacked some old guy on the back of his head with a newspaper while he was filling out a birthday card for his Granddaughter at Hallmark in the mall... He almost caught me... Spry old fella.
But I feel it made me a better writer. Or run faster and hide under bra bins in Victoria's Secret better... Either way something changed and I got a free lacy bra out of it... Well it wasn't free, But it did get snagged on my belt.
It was too small for my wife, so now the neighbor's cat is wearing it... I think he likes it too. Now I know what to get him for his birthday.
I think if you go back to the top of this post and read what I quoted from Faulkner, there is actually something relevant to this thread to be found in it... Basically that art, like writing is something that there is no shortcut to... If you listen to rhetoric and follow formulas, your work will be stale... Learn from your mistakes, but don't be swayed by others preconceptions or personal opinions... If it is to be art, it should be what you want to make... Your passion. And beat up old people who write stuff and learn to run and hide quickly.... I know there was that part about vanity, but vanity is annoying and there is too much of it in this world, so I'm ignoring that and replacing it with dressing vain... Anyway... Remember, there is no short story or simple thought that can't be made long or convoluted and in the end if you read too much and find it dissatisfying or feel the journey was too long for the point made... Enjoy the scenery if not the destination and blame your eyes for having guided you there and not the person who wrote it.
Cheers & Beers y'all!
Gen 3 issuesThat shouldn't be possible - they are all loading the same assets files. Could you do the Currently Used thing for both the G3F base and, say, Victoria 7 so we can see any difference?
can't render michael 6 with irayHI
Apologies for this question from a beginner but I am completely unable to render Michael 6 with the NVIDIA Iray setting. The render screen is completely empty and rendering stops after about 17 seconds (even after rebooting the computer) I am able to render Michael 6 with 3Delight and Victoria 7 using both the NVIDIA Iray and 3Delight settings.
Could anyone tell me what I might be doing wrong
Thanks
how do I change her face please? You have the Surface Selection tool active - from the Tools menu, or the tolbar, select the Node Selection tool or the Universal tool and click on Victoria's head.
ok gottit. Thanks!
Gen 3 issuesThis is Victoria 7: http://www.daz3d.com/victoria-7
What you've shown has definitely got some morphs applied in a wrong manner. Very possibly what Leana said.

LOL!!!!!
lets hope it doesn't come to that
how do I change her face please? That's the Base and Moprhs++, which gives you a good range of shaping morphs. Load Victoria 4, then select the head of the figure and go to the Parameters or Shaping pane to find them (under Morphs|Shaping if you are using the Parameters pane), then drag the sliders on promising-sounding shapes to set them to whatever degree you want. Once satisfied you can save a Shaping preset, in the File>Save As sub-menu, to save just the moprh settings.
Ok yes I am trying to edit her face in particular like her eyes size and width etc and mouth size but it does not appear to be an option. I have seemingly most other things I can do like change her body mass and shape and breast and glute size etc etc but I cannot change specifics like hand/finger dimensions and face dimensions. Am I missing another V4 base package or something? I feel I am.
