Seriously?! Are those guys crazy?? The base mesh of Genesis 3 is even lower than Victoria 4 O.o Also Daz Studio has no built in morphing tool like Smith Micro's Poser does, doesn't it? (i'm quite new to DAZ Studio). Sure, dispacement maps are a good idea for details but way more hard to manage when single poses need some sculpting refinement to look great (and most of them do).

How to become a DAZ AP and get access to those tools? What exactly is a DAZ PA anyways?

Thank you very much for your answer!

  • Is V7 Missing Expressions? [SOLVED]

They are in the second expansion http://www.daz3d.com/victoria-7-extreme-expressions

Edited to add - it was the same with Generation 4, by the way: you had to dial your own expressions, or buy the expression packs ... and some you couldn't buy, they only came as a bonus with the Pro packs (M4 Expressions for example).

Is it possible to use or convert Victoria 4 poses to work with the Genesis 3 Female?

  • Putting Poser Content into Smart Content tab?

Let's say the item is clothing for Victoria 4.  Load Victoria 4 in the viewport and make sure she's selected.

Open the "Content Library" pane on one side, open to the folder containing the clothing.  Open the "Smart Content" pane on the other side with the category you want to put the clothing in (you can use the Default > Wardrobe category, or you can create your own category).

Drag the clothing from the Content Library to the Smart Content pane.  It will now be Smart content that is compatible with V4.

  • Need Free Hair for Genesis 2 Female

The first post in that thread I linked is the hair conversion...

It's best to step through the generartions...convert it first to Genesis, then after simply fit it to the later generations, in order  so you would convert a Victoria 4 hair to Genesis then save it.  Then use the transfer utility (sometimes Autofit will work fine...just try it) to move to Genesis 2.

    Hi again mcj1016,

I missed your response. I guess we were both posting at the same time. Anyway, thanks for that additional tip!

  • Update not showing up in connect

Since I have decided to switch to DAZ|Studio I went and did a clean install of all the connect content I have

Some products, like victoria 4, still need to be installed through DIM. Running DIM I noticed that it listed a bunch of updates available for products I installed through connect.

Going back to studio there aren't any updates listed.

Which is right, and can DIM and connect be synched up?

  • Sapphire & the Coloured Girls

@maxamillion You missed Taia and Samira.

@Raiya Sapphire is beautiful and don't feel bad about your choices.

On the name choice topic, I think it's pointless to worry about someone being offended by a name or pose or whatever. The word being used in a racist way by some Americans in the past does not change its other meanings nor present meaning. The character doesn't even have any of the correct characteristics for it to fit, so the only stretch anyone could manage is "her skin is a bit dark" which is awful profiling itself. So long as you aren't using the name in a racially slurring way now, it's irrelevant.

Words change meanings all the time. Boys were called girls in the 16th century. As recently as a hundred years ago, boys that were now boys were still dressed in manly pink and girls in the girlish blue. Bad means bad but bad also means good. Calling someone a monkey is apparently some horribly racist term in America, but in England and other places it means you're calling someone silly (no racial association at all.) It's also the term for a specific species of animal. What matters is how you use a word, not what that word is.

Yes, I know. I haven't purchased them yet because I'm waiting to get the Mega Bundle once it is no longer a New item and can be discounted. Those are beautiful skintones, but that PA makes textures that are evidently meant to look like a skilled photographer Photoshopped them into pseudo-perfection.

Nobody's offended by Sapphire's name, and young black Americans by and large are just as ignorant of this term as are non-Americans. Thanks everyone for an interesting discussion.

  • Graphic Art Cameras....

They are still in the shop for the same reason that Victoria 3 is still in the shop, it sells.

It also clearly states it is 4.6 compatible, not 4.6 plus compatible.

And yeah they apparently broke with the 4.7 update, so as long as you are using 4.6 you can use it.

People don't always upgrade their software to the latest version.

Heck i still run old versions of programs all the time, such as C4d(r14) because a plugin i like(interposer) doesn't work past that.

While my workstation is running daz 4.8, my test box is running 4.9 and i think my file server is running 4.6.

  • Victoria 4.2 and Daz Connect

    Hi,

I'm currently reinstalling all of my content to a new computer. I'm doing it with Daz Studio 4.9 via Daz Connect (Smart Content).

The problem I have is that everything is in the "Available" pane except Victoria 4.2 and all that comes with it (everything from Daz). What do I have to do to make it available?

    Thank you!

  • How to save a Victoria character as a Genesis one.

  • Sapphire & the Coloured Girls

I was waiting for one of the usual suspects to post something commending Raiya on her most recent beauty, Sapphire, but no one has. When Eva 7 followed Victoria 7, there was a lot of talk about the relative paucity of non-Caucasian characters, to which I added my voice. However, while using Fixmypcmike's brilliant "My Products" bookmarklet, I see Sapphire HD, P3D Adele, Brook for Genesis 3 Female(s), & Lynsey for Genesis 3 Female(s), not to mention The Many Faces of Nelly, which has a golden tan alternate skin that would be suitable for Latinas or light-skinned black females. FWSA Rahele HD for Olympia 7, Maret for Victoria 7, Amandla for Teen Josie 7, EJ Etta for Genesis 3 Female(s), & Raiya's Kelly for Victoria 7 round out the list. This gives us all but the darker tones, and the series of characters from Monique's lineage covers those tones thanks to CaymanStudios's Legacy UVs for Genesis 3. With his corresponding V4 utility, all of the shades that were available then become available now. And he's doing Victoria 5 after he finishes the M4 to G3M version; so, there will be a way to use all skins from V3 to G2F on G3F.

  • Creating morphs/figures for distribution/sale

    Thanks.

How do I take things to the next stage, then? Are the individual characters like Bethany, Stephanie and Josie all 'originals' or variants of Victoria?

You should probably begin with creating a character in Blender 1st via box modeling, anf then sculpting. Darren Lile has free tutorials on YouTube. You can do the subdivision boxodeling easily with just a mouse & keyboard but to have any fine control over sculpting and texture painting your will need a digitizer tablet - I bought a Bamboo Create with a Wireless module for more than $150 but less than $200 which was a lot on my budget. It may be cheaper now. There are much cheaper brands than Wacom but if you want it wireless then when I bought one there was only 1 model competitive with Wacom and that model was one of the few that wasn't substantially cheaper.

  • eylashes... again...

Ok, I think got it figured out.  I used texture atlas, which presumably remaps the figure.  However, I skipped the transparencies, originally incorrectly thinking I could add the eyelashes as a very small map later, like this, rather than having an additional 2048x2048 image with nothing but itty-bitty eyelashes in one corner wasting the remaining 95% of the space.  I then saw the full-size eyelash transparency image and thought I had just accidentally sent the original non-texture-atlased figure.   But, apparently when I deselected the transparency in texture atlas it didn't eliminate the material entirely, rather it just kept using the original opacity image but along with the remapped figure, which of course doesn't line up anymore, and I really had sent the texture-atlased figure.

So, the solution here appears to be: In a copy of the original M3 figure, reduce the eyelash resolution image to whatever is appropriate, send the figure to Bryce, temporarily save just the eyelashes object to an empty library, Edit > "Copy Matrix" to save the position then delete the figure, send the texture-atlased M3 figure, load the temporarily saved eyelashes object and Edit > "Paste Matrix" to correctly position it.

I don't have an M3 either. I have V3 only and tried to make a test with her. I had never used V3 before. In DAZ Studio V3 had no eyelashes at all. I exported the V3 anyway. Not surprisingly I found no eyelashes in Bryce as well. I could not find the directory with the V3 eyelashes transparancy map. (I appreciate, if you could give me a hint referring to this. The V3 seems to use a totally different approach, than her successors like G2). I tried an transparency map of G2 instead. It worked.

When I look at your picture it seems as if the eyelashes are there, but totally blurred. Confusing.

As the default V3/M3 don't have "real" materials, I usually just use "Victoria 3.0 Universal Texture Maps (High Res)" ( http://www.daz3d.com/victoria-3-0-universal-texture-maps-high-res ) for V3, which for me puts the eyelashes in C:\sean\3D graphics\objects\Victoria 3.0 Universal Texture Maps\Runtime\textures\DAZ\Characters\MilWom\V3Maps .  Similarly for "Michael 3.0 Universal Texture Maps (High Res)" ( http://www.daz3d.com/michael-3-0-universal-texture-maps-high-res ) at C:\sean\3D graphics\objects\Michael 3.0 Universal Texture Maps (High Res)\Runtime\textures\DAZ\Characters\MilMan\M3Maps . If you use different materials of course your eyelashes will be elsewhere.

The files in People/Victoria 4/Clothing are usually just material presets for the clothing.  Victoria 4 clothing will be in Poser format under Figures.
