The UV map defines what polygons on the model are affected by each pixel on the texture image.  Genesis/Genesis 2/Genesis 3 can have more than one UV map, so a different shape won't cause a stretching of the texture.  Skin Builder uses the Victoria 5 UV map, but the makeup you're using uses a different UV map, so it's getting applied to the wrong parts.

  • Who is this character for aiko 3 ?

Aiko 3 is a generation 3 character along with Michael 3 and Victoria 3,  designed to be an anime character.  Very popular in the day.  There is still content in the store for her.

That plugin is meant to work with V5 textures... Which ones are you using in your model?

That is, any textures using the Victoria 5 UVs - not just the maps from the Victoria 5 character. (Which should make it usable on G3F with the new Legacy UVs produict.)

  • When Jayden/Brodie 7?

I actually don't buy teen figures at all or children either. In the rare instance I need a kid, I dial one with genesis or use a morph set.  I haven't liked any of the teen figures produced by daz so far anyway. Their style looks out of place with the other characters who look more realistic, their lips in particular bug me for some reason.

I'm always looking for adult male characters though.

I've cut back drastically on female characters too. I'm strictly buying what I don't have enough of which is adult men. I'll buy a female if she's unique enough. But, it takes something like Mei-Lin to interest me.

    Things this made me think:

    a. You're saying you don't buy them because their style doesn't fit, which is the same issue we're saying (not "we don't buy them because male" but "we don't buy them because specific style doesn't fit to x") I think it's relatively fair to say that most casual users would expect Victoria to match well in a scene with Michael, Josie to match well with both of them, Jayden the same (or whoever.) They don't, therefore some people don't buy them.

    b. I didn't buy Jayden 6, but I didn't buy Josie 6 either. It wasn't that I didn't want a teen male character; I wanted a matching pair that would go together. She looked a bit... unfortunate for some reason and then Josie 7 came out and she looked good so I decided to invest in the G3 line for teens instead (you'd think I'd have learned after investing in Genesis 2 for anime characters only to discover there was no male Aiko OR Keiko.)

    c. New users tend to look at the Pro Bundles as a safe way to get all the appropriate bits they need for a type of character (unless I'm completely weird and it was only me that thought that at first.) They don't know much about morphs or what goes with what beyond the basic numbers and things. There are plenty of forum posts suggesting that longer term users still don't fully understand the various generation and morph integrations.

Basically, teen males (or anime males or whatever) will almost certainly sell less. They will sell a LOT less if they don't match the companion figures they're suggested to. But their companion females will also sell less as a result, and you're curating customers who only want more females by only offering that. A typical new customer being told "they can get around it by buying and experimenting with morph packs and textures and if they do x and adjust this..." is not going to want to invest in that sort of suggestion. They want to buy one thing and have it be the character and a selection of appropriate options in hair clothing skin for that character.

  • When Jayden/Brodie 7?

I have to agree with Ix on this one.

The reason the teen males from generations 5 and 6 didn't sell well wasn't that there wasn't a demand for them.  It was because they weren't well planned, and in some cases, just plain poorly executed.

Also, teen models probably sell less than the typical models.  Regardless of male/female.  And Male models tend to sell less than females.  This is because of all the *ahem*pixelporn*ahem* 'art' that a many of poser/ds users create.

So, even a slightly poor execution in such a reduced market share as a male teen model can have a HUGE impact on the percieved demand.

Give us a well thought out, planned, and well-designed teen male with appropriate supporting content, and you'll see it sell.  Maybe not as much as Michael 7, and certainly not as much as Victoria 7.  Probably not even as much as Teen Josie.  But not insubstantial.

Ooooor... they could make another female figure that they can be confident will sell more. Perhaps not the noblest of choices but pragmatism has its virtues.

Mind you I'm all for Daz being noble, I'm still pining for a new David

  • RAM Usage for Bryce Files... is there a limit?

At this moment I am replacing a gaming computer, but I am not a gamer. Rather, I am a hopeless Bryce addict (Brycescaper, DUH LOL). Is there a top end size for file size the program can handle, or is the file size limited to available RAM? I make complex scenes using figures from Victoria 1 to 6, Genesis1-3 imported from DAZ|Studio. So if I replace my recently deceased 16GB system with a 32 GB system, will that increase the potential file size?

On my old system I could fit seven Millenium/Genersis figures into a scene (I import them and save them in preset libraries, my scenes are party/beach/resort oriented). Take a look at my gallery to get a taste of what I do with DAZ figures in Bryce. The lights and atmospherics of Bryce make it the end destination for all my 3D files, I don't cheat with photoshop postwwork, everything in the scene is real 3D, tinted, lit and HDRI, which is why the file sizes are so incredibly huge.

If I were to expand to a 32 GB system, would I be able to put even more in the scene? Right now my biggest .BR7 files are just under 600MB, and open to 1.2 GB scenes. With a 32GB system, would that increase to potentially a  1GB .br7 file unpacked to 2GB?

  • PC instead of Mac. . .

Like the OP, I have been watching and waiting for a new Mac Book Pro for years now.  I want a high-end one, however, and they're just not making them, so I will stay with PC.  Windows 10 is not bad.  Get Windows 10 Pro if you need to have control over automatic updates, it's worth it if that is important to you.  Also consider getting Classic Shell if you're like me and you like having the old Start button and Start menu.

Gaming machines make for superb rendering machines, but if you're an Iray user, be sure you get one with a discrete Nvidia graphic card, and not an AMD card or only a combo-CPU/GPU.

MS can call it what they want, but the feeling I got was that I'd bought an OS with preinstalled adware attached.

If you buy a pre-built machine, that is precisely what you are getting.  That is how box-makers can make PCs and PC laptops less expensive.  Know this, realize it, and plan accordingly.  Leverage it and make it work in your favor.  Or else, just reset Windows and start fresh.  Worst case, obtain a pure copy of Windows and start fresh (but that will cost some money).

I always build my own PC, so I never get any of that.  But even if you can't BYO (or if you're buying a laptop, there's not realy much choice), then you just have to recognize the fact that you may need to de-install the clutter.  I recommend approaching this with a "can do" attitude, not with an attitude that it's a waste of time or that it makes "all of Windows bad".  That's just silly.

Because, quite frankly, a moderately powerful PC is now in a higher class than the fastest Mac computers.  And graphic designers have been making the transition from Mac to PC for a few years now.  It really can be worth your trouble.

In my opinion, privacy concerns in Windows 10 are overblown.  And you can disable a lot of the telemmetry anyway, so I recommend we all just do that and move on.  Again, it makes no sense to worry about Microsoft spying on Victoria's and Michael's antics in your runtime when it's so easy to just disable this stuff and get on with your life.

    Good luck to the OP.

if CUDA is your goal get the Nvidia card, if not AMD cards generally test better and cost less and from what I'm reading on various blog Nvidia has no intention of lowering the prices on their older cards any time soon which I expect so there isn't a run on them when they try to shove Pascal at the consumer with the promise of "10x the power" CEO math.

having used and continue to use both Win 10 and El Capitan my finding are Win 10 is a total POS and step backwards from the stability and non-intrusion of Windows 7. Win 10 is de clunkiest OS's since Vista, or Windows 3.1 except now it's determined to suck up more CPU and network bandwidth then ever before. Windows 10 is "not there yet" and I cant say if it ever will be but this is MS's last OS(?) and that freaks me out a little.

     My $0.02*

    *actual cash value -$0.02

    Look, the choice is simple:

Option 1:  Get an Nvidia GPU, and you will be able to have your GPU (or GPUs, if you have more than one like I do) help your CPU render (when rendering with Iray, Octane, or Reality/Lux).

Option 2:  Get an AMD GPU, and your CPU has to do all Iray, Octane, and/or Lux rendering.

If you NEVER use an unbiased engine, then you could save a few bucks on an AMD.  Maybe.

But even if there's even a SMALL CHANCE you might try a reality-based rendering engine (and decide you like it), then why would you cheap out on an AMD?  Sure, your CPU can do the work, but WHY make yourself wait longer than necessary for your work to be completed?  That's just signing yourself up for lower efficiency.

This (the GPU decision) is a one-time purchase (a good GPU can last you 5+ years if it's properly cooled).  AMD is not THAT much cheaper.  This hobby/career sometimes requires that we budget for big purchases, so do that!

The GPU decision is even more important when the system involved is a laptop, where you pretty much have to choose manufacturer or model based on the GPU.  Apple, for example, does not put Nvidia into the MacBook Pro.  I have no desire to carry a MacPro around with me, so Apple is pretty much disqualified for my rendering machine.  Imagine that, I have rejected Apple purely on a technical hardware basis and it doesn't matter AT ALL that an Apple is supposedly easier to use.

If the machine ain't got it, then it ain't got it!  Why sign yourself up for frustration?  Buy right, buy once, and as always, budget accordingly.  Then move on and make art.  laugh

  • Girl Fight or Catfight Poses and animations for Genesis 3 / Victoria 7

I really like what I see so far with V7.  I have created 100's of poses and dozens of animations for V4 vs V4.

I would love to convert them to V7 and learn how to animate with DAZ-Studio.  Any help would be appretiated.

My first question would be how do you save poses and animations in DAZ Studio, so they can be possibly shared or sold?

I have seen the conversion software, but I use a lot of parenting for my animations....  I use a lot of Figure to Figure parenting in Poser, particularly for rolling ground fights and certain kinds of throws.

Can one do figure to figure parentling in DAZ-Studio? If so how?  I assume it is just because I am new, I understand how to do object to figure parenting,

but say hip to hip or body to body parentling does not seam possible in a Daz Studio program?   Can you also do inverse or keep a foot stationary as the body changes in position?

Attached is one of my simple rolling animations

  • If Genesis is supposed to be step above Michael/Victoria, why then are they still making new vrsions

For history's sake, Michael through M4 and Victoria through V4 were standalone figues that had some morphs you could use to shape them into different characters but not too extreme ususally. They had poser style rigging and with each generation got more polys and better bends, etc but were still the same basic technology. Because it was poser rigging, the mesh was cut up into segments and that made it tough to give it really extreme body morphs because it was hard to make them across bundaries of the body zones.  Then came Genesis , a fairly androgynous character with a new rigging style that gave "better" bends (less sharp) and was fairly low poly but was all one mesh so it was easy to morph it like crazy.  As a reult you could morph it up into all sorts of creatures and, perhaps more importantly, into new versions of the base characters Michael and Victoria. From Genesis on, Mihacel and Victoria are no longer seperate models, they are just morphs of a particular genesis mesh.  Benefit: ecause it was all one mesh with one rigging set up, all of those crazy morphed characters (men, women, kids, monsters, aliens, etc) could use the same clothes natively, no conversion required.  With SubD the lower res meshes still look good when rendered, though some will say the reduction in polys in various places made some poses poor and content creation awkward.  Especially gender specific stuff like breasts. Hence the move back to seperate male and female meshes with the Genesis 2 line and now 3. Each is an incremental improvement over what we got with Genesis but some will say the loss of the single mesh for both male and female was a step backwards. For example, sharing clothes across models is now harder and needs some 3rd party stuff or you have to do some work to create a "clone".  Also animators that want to morhp characters in an animation had it easy with Genesis since it could be anything. Options are more limited with G3F/G3M, for example.

It all depends on what you want to do. I do still renders so I don't need the extreme morohing of Genesis and am quite happy with Genesis 2 / 3 models. On the other hand plenty of people still use V4 and M4 exclusively. Heck plenty of people are still loving Aiko 3!

  • Is there a Package to Convert G2F and G2M to various ages and Clothes will change too?

Render #1: Here's a draft of Victoria 6 set at 5 years old with Zevo morphs. I put the V4 bodysuit on her BEFORE shrinking her down and that worked fine.

Render #2: Then I took that outfit off while she was still a 5 year old and put her in a V4 ranger outfit. I have the autofit that puts the V4 on G2F and it worked great. Looks like the pieces shrink down to the morphed child size and fit perfectly!

Note: these are drafts in Iray, that's why they're grainy.

I have the Pro Bundle of both of these characters. When using Iray and "standard lighting" (whatever is applied automatically when I just press Render), both Michael and Victoria render with a very strong orange tint. How do I change their skin tone and their associated genitalia to a lighter or more fair, less tanned looking color?

    Sorry, not seeing it.

It is strange. I can definitelly see the resemlance. Maybe it is because she is an actress (and not model) so she has thousand faces. Anyway, the thumbnail photo on IMDB is not the best one.

If you flip through to her younger pics back in the early 2000's, I do see more of a resemblance. However, I don't think that was intentional. I've seen this figure before, and she immediately made me feel like I've seen that face somewhere. But this is probably of the plan. Just like a good psychic knows how to be vague enough to "read" her customers so that feel like they are being read a fortune, a good artist can hit those same tones, creating a character that <looks> like different people when viewed through the eyes of different observers.

It sounds reasonable. Maybe, we can agree on that: 'If you feel like employing Anna Friel in your digital theatre P3D Eva will be your best choice.'
