  • GET DAZ STUDIO 4.5! See why you should do it today!

    Pwtoon is still borked.
I reset my download, uninstalled/reinstalled, and all I can get, no matter the settings or light setups, is a flat, solid color figure when rendering.

Its working for me. Which version of PWtoon are you installing

  • DAZ Studio Pro 4.5.0.137 Beta Release Now Available

Even with the updated version(yes, I reset my download for it), PWtoon is still broke.
All you get with it is a filled, flat, diffuse colored shape.

  • Cell Shading... Shaders

I'd consider PWtoon to be pretty high quality. You just need to play with it a little. I'd go so far as to say that its one of my favorite purchases.

  • Cell Shading... Shaders

Currently the only real resource for Cell Shading renders is to use pwToon's Shaders with some old free shader presets by Crescent that take a good amount of adjustment to work. I don't know what the market is for this kind of thing, but it'd be nice to see some high quality Cell Shading shaders!

  • I finished my graphic novel! ***confetti***

Thank you all for your kind words! I want to respond to everyone...

LizzieP_D9S - Thanks! I checked out your site and WOW, you've made a lot of stuff! Definitely bookmarking to check out later.

FirstBastion - I love your stuff! Renaissance Stealth Action Poses became my favorite poses for Rune. I also used some of your landscapes: The Hidden Waterfalls, Rocky Flats, A Walk Across Water and Hilly Surround. Thanks for the encouragement!

cridgit - Thanks! I hesitate to think of it as "doing it myself" when I'm building on top of the works of all the artists who make the products I use. But it was fun to learn comic layout, lettering, editing and marketing in addition to improving my renders!

I'm guessing the children's book market is a little different than comics, but I could try to answer any questions your wife has based on my experience with self-publishing. The technical requirements are going to vary depending on what printer and distributor you want to use, so you do have to consider your goals (and how much you want to spend) at the outset. I went with the lowest-possible out-of-pocket expenses since this is not a profit-making venture for me.

    RorrKonn and MistyWhisky - Thanks!

canberra_boy - Thanks! I made it free because I have the unknown author problem - people don't know if I make something they'd be willing to buy. Congrats on having your GN published!

Paradigm67 - I have gotten a lot faster with the posing, mostly by expanding my library of pose collections. When I first started using DAZ, I was like, "Why would I buy poses? I can make those myself!" Then I realized it's HARD to make good, life-like poses! And time-consuming. Now I start with a pose close to what I want and tweak it. Hands are definitely difficult and time-consuming, especially when they're holding things! I'm ridiculously proud of the panel where Rune is drinking from a goblet because I spent forever positioning his fingers.

Also, I save time by doing almost no post work. Most of the images are straight-up DAZ+pwToon renders, except for a little general brightness/contrast correction.

Proxima Shining and jade monkey - Thank you so much! I am always grateful when someone takes the time to read my book and let me know they enjoyed it. :-)

  • Japanese School building?

I can't see anything causing that comma, either.

You might also want to look at Rendo. A vendor there called "greenpots" makes a number of school sets that might work for you.

Here are a couple of images of Maclean's sets I rendered for a video game I was working on. I used pwToon to render these-- the default render is a realistic style, if that's what you're after.

  • I finished my graphic novel! ***confetti***

It took me nearly three years, but I finished my graphic novel, Rune: A Tale of Wizards and Kings.

I posted it as a webcomic page-by-page and I've put together an e-book that you can read online or download (for free) at Goodreads, Issuu, and my own website.

As it says on my dedication page, Special Thanks to the artists and programmers whose products enabled the renders and illustrations. Your fine products made it possible for me to tell a story in a beautiful, full-color format. Most of the illustrations are DAZ Studio renders using pwToon and I used a TON of the runtime that I've bought over the past five years.

I hope you'll give it a read and, if you like it, share it with your friends. Thanks!

  • Cell shaded stuff

Oh, I remember Crescent's shaders. I use them all the time! They're quite good.

omgwtfbbgxy, make sure you have pwToon installed correctly. Crescent's shaders won't work unless pwToon (http://www.daz3d.com/shop/pwtoon/) is installed correctly. Try resetting your download from the DAZ Store to get the latest version. It should work well with your version of DAZ Studio.

Once that's done, as a test, try applying the pwToon shader that came with your DAZ download directly to the surfaces you want. If that works, then find Crescent's shaders in your Content Library and apply the ones you'd like to use.

    Hopefully that helps...

I'm afraid I can't help you with this, the shader is no longer available it seems.

There is a link here to a help page on pwToon, it might help you:

I don't have one called Crescent in pwToon resources, where did it come from? It doesn't sound like a pwToon shader. Can you apply any of the other ones to see if they wotk? You DO know that you wont see any change until you render?

What version of pwToon does the installer say it is. It was updated recently for DS 4.5 0.114 and it is called 7253_pwToon_1.2_ds.exe, is that the one you have, and what version of DS 4 are you using?

    EDIT:

Where are you getting the Flesh 01 toon, I don;t have it as part of pwToon?

JimmyC_2009 JimmyC_2009 September 2012 in Daz Studio Discussion
  • Cell shaded stuff

Then you are not loading pwToon, it should say Shader : pwToon at the top of the Surfaces tab.

Please see th image below. There are three versions of pwToon, one for DS2, DS3 and DS4. Make sure that you are using the correct one.
Select Genesis in the Scene tab AND in the Surfaces tab before applying the shader. You will also not see the effect of the shader until you render it.

    EDIT:

    Another XPost Richard.

OK, in that case you haven't applied the shader successfully. Do you have the updated versions of pwToon for DS4.5? Are you applying the base shader or an effects preset, and are you remembering to seelct surfaces before applying the preset?

    Does anyone know of any free cartoon shaders for DAZ Studio? I have a field day with the Carrara ones, and have the jwToon shaders for Poser, but wanted to know about something similar for DAZ. I'm jobless, or else I'd get pwtoon myself... ^^;

    Something like this?
