  • How to import Daz Studio 4 model in sketchup pro 8?

    HI :)

Here is the path I have traveled:
In the software Dazstudio - I clicked ‘send to Hexagon’
In the software Hexagone - I exported my model file ‘Carrera’ (.car)
In the software Carrera - I export the model in OBJ file.
In the software Setchup - I imported the OBJ file with Fluidimporter

    WOW! the road is long!

The road is long if you make it long. :)

Carrara can be used to Load the daz3d figure,. Pose it, and export the "Posed figure" as an OBJ, with the option to export the texture maps.
Your texture maps need to be in the same folder as the OBJ and MTL files, so that the program you're importing into can find them.

Alternatively, and probably easier, is to export your building models from Sketchup into Carrara, apply textures / shaders,.. then add your Daz figures (animate them if you need to) then render in Carrara.

Alternative 2 would be to render out a sequence of your building models from Thea and the daz figures from either Studio or Carrara, and composite together.

    Hope that makes sense ;)

I'm certainly not the first to try ...
Then I suggest you try this, Look into every file Format that SketchUp supports. I'm saying with every Import plugin it has. Then SEE which one of those formats is a Export format for Daz Studio. Once you get the Export settings to MATCH the expected Import settings for SketchUP you should be just fine. I only do SketchUp to DS not the other way.
I'm sorry I was not more help.

i have been using octane for 8 months and it is just wonderful. the plugin will make it easier but it's easy right now once you learn octane. i may even opt to stay with the standalone version of octane even after the plugin is released.

it's a gpu renderer, so if you have a fast graphic card render times for my projects are all under 30 min, i see posts about 2 hour renders with daz or lux and I laugh because it would be 15 min in octane. need more speed, get another graphic card (nvidia).

at first my only issue was animation, that was resolved a few months ago. i'm not one for giving out technical advice, but if you are willing to invest in the learning curve it is the single best thing one can do to improve your renders.

the workflow that work for me is:

    sketchup
    blender
    kinect mocap
    scupltris/goz

    any/all

    export into daz, add characters
    exoprt into octane
    import renders into after effects
    end

sometimes i export sketchup or blender direct into octane then export the character into octane.

Octane is excellent, however I want to comment on the 3Delight thing: The render here and here are done in 3delight, with UberEnvironment2, UberSpot used for the streetlights in the dusk scene), full-raytracing on 20 lights, SSS on the Worm, and ALL of the Urban Sprawl loaded and the 3Delight Linux Standalone 64 bit 10.0.50 ( renderdl -q -progress ) took just over 3 minutes on a Quad-core AMD-Phenom 2.5Ghz.

EDIT: I did not turn off raytracing for the hair. It was the default load, no changes.

    $ time renderdl -q -progress mavka_l4w.rib
    real 3m19.794s
    user 6m10.284s
    sys 0m0.723s

3Delight doesn't necessarily NEED to take a long time to render. It just needs the right environment.

Pappy411 made a bacon prop but it is no longer available. It was in the Rendo Marketplace which is where I bought it. It is no longer there.

    Oh you wanted a freebie.

...yeah I have a silly idea but I need strips of bacon for it.

There is a set of 3 strips (not sure if you can separate them) that is available at Turbosquid which is in Collada format (and is also built on quad polys which Studio uses) for 8$. Have to think about this one.

Did see a really funny item in the SketchUp 3D Warehouse but it is only available in .skp (Sketchup) format.

Why not just Save your SketchUP scene as Obj files and load THAT into Daz Studio. I use SketchUP to make Props with Mats all the time. You will need to Tweak items (Size, and Materials, and add a light) but it works that way very well.
    Just wondering...

    Hello,
I did some test and I got a weird result.
Here is the path I have traveled:
In the software Dazstudio - I clicked 'send to Hexagon'
In the software Hexagone - I exported my model file 'Carrera' (.car)
In the software Carrera - I export the model in OBJ file.
In the software Setchup - I imported the OBJ file with Fluidimporter

    WOW! the road is long!

The problem is that the skin material is not placed correctly and that the eyes are absent.

Here is a picture that shows the result one time in sketchup.

  • How to import Daz Studio 4 model in sketchup pro 8?

    I know sketchup.
I tried export collada but I had other problems. Position M4 is not imported, it is generated with initial cross position. And texture skins are multiplying in each polygon ...

To which the position is static, that is ok for me.

  • How to import Daz Studio 4 model in sketchup pro 8?

As you said, you are new to DAZ Studio.
But, do you even know how to use Sketchup?
You keep poking around with freebies you find who knows where on the net.

Did it occur to you to try a Collada import/export. At least Sketchup has native support for that format.

Here's another thing to think about. If you ever do successfully import OBJ of M4 into sketchup, it will be a static object.
You will not be able to change the pose or expression. Poser or DS rigging does not go over with OBJ format.

This is fine if you just need him to stand there like a statue, but is not much use otherwise

  • Can't import collada .dae files into Daz 4.5

Hello, i'm having an issue with the new versión 4.5. i can't import collada .dae files into Daz, that didn't happened on previous versions.
I tried with several files, models exported to collada from Google sketchup 8, and sometimes daz imported parcial elements (planes, or a cilinder) but never the whole model, and sometimes it didn't load anything at all. I doublechecked the export options on ketchup, selected all objects, but nothing works.
Can someone help and tell me what might be wrong or how can i import these .dae models?
    Thanks for any help

  • Maxwell Render and Daz

Next Limit likes to play things close to the vest with things like this, so you can never tell -- but it never hurts to create a request thread. They do read the requests and they are often implemented in the future.

I like to think I could be an asset for them if they do create such a plugin, since I can teach about how to use it (much like I do for the SketchUp plugin and the HDR Light Studio plugin) -- but they need to know other users would find this useful (or it might even bring new users to Maxwell, which is even better).

Regardless it all begins with request thread -- and I would definitely add my voice to that thread if somebody else starts one.
