drailix, if you hold down the ctrl key when you dbl-click the shader it will pop up the advanced settings. In there select map settings and choose ignore. Usually this will overlay the shader on the texture instead of replacing it. However, I am currently having the same problem as you and even using ignore is still replacing the textures. Good luck getting help from poseworks, Their forums/support are closed and they refer you to DAZ, basically here hoping someone will have an answer.

I just tried 4-5 presets in Daz Studio 4.5 with pwToon 1.2 and cmd-click -> ignore in MacOs X works fine (which is the equivalent to ctrl-click -> ignore in Windows). Which shaders and presets did you have trouble with? Did all textures vanish and if not, which did?

As for support regarding pwToon shaders, Daz bought a couple shaders and among them is e.g. pwToon. Due to that you'd need to address Daz for the shaders they bought.

There is no longer an Advanced tab for Surfaces, disregard that bit.
So, you change layout first (pick anything, I use City Limits because it shows everything), that's done in Window->Workspace->Select Layout. You then select (at least) a Surface with the surface selection tool and change whatever option is available in the Surfaces tab. Please take a look at Renpatsu's screenshot, when the shader is applied correctly, as instructed by Richard, it will read as pwToon at the top of the Surfaces tab (third line actually on Renpatsu's screenie). At the moment it should say DAZ Studio Default. Go to the Content Library and browse to your pwToon folder (I don't have it, sorry) apply the shader first, then any of the presets. If the shader name doesn't change to pwToon you have a mismatch of pwToon/DS versions, reset your order of pwToon and redownload/reinstall.

One of your images has been removed as we don't allow genital nudity, and don't allow upper torso nudity for females while we lack content filters.

You are using the Full Service workspace layout, which is a hand-holding setup aimed at new users. As such is has a lot of advanced features hidden. I would advise going to Window>Workspace>Select Layout and choosing one of the other layouts.

As i asked at Renderosity - did you apply the base shader, from the pwToon folder, before applying a preset, from the pwToon Resources folder (if you are using the Content Library pane - I'm not sure where they appear in Smart content)?

Ok so this is what has been going on...

Image 1 is using the (Render Tab) located at the top the program.. File,Edit,Create, Tools, (Render), Connect , Window, Help

Image 2 is using the ( Render Tab) Located with the other tabs that say .. Actors, wardrobe & Props Pose & Animate LIghts& Cameras (Render)

    I don't understand why such a difference..

my other problem is I can't seem to find that advanced tab under surfaces? only other advanced tab I know of is under render settings..

Pwtoon is suppose to have some dials you can place with, but I can't locate them.

    Image removed

Are you using the 3Delight (aka Software aka Best Quality) rendering engine? All pwShaders are build for the 3Delight rendering engine and won't function in OpenGL properly - and this includes the preview, which uses OpenGL as well.

Edit: If the pwToon shader applied correctly it should list the shader on the "Surfaces" tab as "Shader: pwToon"

See below how roughly e.g. the "Comic Book" style looks rendered when applied to a sphere (no lights added in this case) and a portion of said "Surfaces" tab.

  • How to use pw shaders??

You should be able to find them in the Content Library pane, under DAZ Studio Formats > My Library > Shaders > pwSurface/pwToon etc.
That is assuming that you installed to the default My Library folder? I also have two readmes iin HTML format n My Library > Readme's for pwSurface and pwToon.

    EDIT: Too slow again!

There are several 'pw' shaders for sale in the Store, and they all come with documentaion as far as I know.
Which one did you buy, pwToon, pwSurface etc etc.

    Hey,

I recently picked up PwToon 1.2, I'm going to try my luck with it out of the box, but like omgwtfbbgxy I am also interested in using those tutorials as a guide. My problem is much simpler, so far I have had ZERO luck on finding a working download link for those free Crescent PwToon shader presets. Can anyone help me find this? I've tried for 2 weeks now.

omgwtfbbgxy how have you made out with the Cel shading renders? I'm hoping to get this process down for use in a game project I'm working on.

    Cheers

CyonixGFX re-posted the Crescent presets on sendspace, as the readme allows this. The link is among the comments on Deviant. The direct link is:

I have this item, and DS4.5, but I have not updated it yet. I will do that and get back to you.

    EDIT:

I just reset this item, and there is a document here: C:\Users\\Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio\My Library\Docs\Poseworks\pwToon\index.html. Have you seen it, and does it not help?

hank you for reminding me how dense I can be at times. lol I found the info. It's relly lte now so I will have to wait until tomorrow to try it and see if it helps. :)

  • Shader issues.

I had posted this in the members forum but hadn't received any replies yet so I thought I might check here as well.
As much as I have dabbled off and on with Studio and Poser the last several years (and as much as I've spent! lol) I have yet to really use shaders at all. I have what seem to be some really god ones but no clue how to make use of them.

Does anyone know of any good start from basic shader tutorials? I found some on the daz info but it was rather limited. One of the main ones I am trying to use is "PWtoon". According to the Product Page it has been updated to 4.5 so I DL’d the newest copy and have been trying to figure out how to get the b&w outline option shown in the examples. Others are "PWGhost" and "Real Paint for DAZ Studio" by: DzFire.

Thanks in advance for any assistance! :)

I’m glad you’ve managed to achieve a look that you like, but in all honesty the style you’re trying to achieve can be done with any toon shader available, whether that be pwToon, Visual Style, or even Daz’s own free toon shader. You might even find those easier to use, as you wouldn’t need to disable the screentone effect. Visual Style in particular gives you the most control over what colours you can use (pwToon and Daz’s own toon shader attempt to automate the process by multiplying values together, so colours will always come out darker than intended). I just want you to be familiar with all the options available to you. Honesty is the best policy.

However, if you would prefer to keep on using Manga Style, I will try to help you however I can. I’m not sure what you mean though by losing detail in the face. If you’re referring to facial textures, you might want to try plugging the face texture into the colours of the shades. If it’s more to do with outlines, you might want to try using the Geometry Shell Outline found in the main Manga Style Shaders folder (the step-by-step guide, which i’ll hopefully be releasing soon, explains this in detail). Create a Geometry Shell, apply the Geometry Shell Outline to it, and there you go. You can use the Geometry Shell’s built in options to change the thickness, as well as disable parts you’d rather not be shelled (I always disable the eyes, tear, and eyelashes).

I really don't know how to reach that effect with that shaders, I played around with them, but i always end with a cool toon characters but they still seem 3D, not 2D, is like the shades are too washy or colors to difuminate, what i love of manga style shaders is that sharp edges that creates that they seem made by human.
Anyway i have to try pwtoon, but the shaders are bugged in 4.5, there is a post about it. Also the geometry shell outline of ur shaders it seems is bugged, everytime I apply, the figure turns like semitransparent and there is no options to adjust, then i render and its all black.

With Visual Style, you can sharpen the shadows/outlines to make them look more 2D, and you can disable the ambient occlusion. Download the Visual Style documentation at the beginning of this topic and read through it, and you'll see which settings to change to get the look you want. :)

Also, the Geometry Shell Outline is supposed to be applied onto the Geometry Shell, not the Genesis figure itself. With Genesis selected click "Create / Create Geometry Shell" at the top left of the screen. This will create a Geometry Shell around Genesis. This is what you apply the Geometry Shell Outline shader to, hence the name.

Hi Bishounen, sorry I couldn't answer yesterday, was really late. Today I did some tests with what u suggested, I think I am achieving something. I messed with the colours of shades and I created a plain pattern for the screentoned channels and I finally I could achive a clean style. The advantatge with that style is that then is super easy to paint in photoshop, like the pic i post here, the colors was added in 10 seconds (is just a test).

So the 1st image is with colors, the 2 image the style i achived and the third the original presets of the shader, I hope u understand me with this test picture. What i want to achieve is a clean style but still feel like painted by hand. In other words the same results of the shaders but without the dots, like I didn't added a pattern in the image. I don't know why but all the cartoon shaders I tried, like pwtoon or visual style, they have something that still it seems is 3D. But these manga style shaders are awesome, I think with a more tests I could achive a style that can look like a professional manga draw.

Now my problem is with the face, still I am losing lot of detail, so I will keep trying things. Any suggestions are welcome. And thanks for this awesome shaders.

Hello Xdye. The main point behind Manga Style is to recreate the screentoned look of printed black and white manga. If you would prefer flat grey tones, you would be better off using a normal toon shader like pwToon or Visual Style and simply using shades of grey* rather than colours.

*I recommend about 50 of them.

Btw, that is a lovely render.

EDIT: Thinking about it though, you could use the Colour paramaters (under the screentone parameters). They change the colour of the actual screentone effect (nessecary for pop art renders). If you set all the shadows to black, then used grey shades in the Colour parameters, you might be able to get something close to what you're looking for.
