  • I am beginner to Daz Studio, I have tried my luck in vain...

@Catherine3678ab, thank you very much for the examples for the "Bra and Panty Lingerie Set for Genesis 3"

I will try to work with that and see how it goes.

The most confusing part when using Daz Studio is with the tutorials the interactive one and those that are found on YouTube, with the interactive one at least you are guided with arrows and squares in the menus, in the other side of the coin the Videos do not focus in a close-up take when trying to do the tasks.

I tried to follow up with the basics, then something went wrong, the hair style, (it seems there is nothing else than short hair and no availibility of medium to long hair)

Then, I tired to change the hair color and neither the skin tone, I can't get it right!

I wish I can get up and running the program and adquire the skills needed to create or work with some of the items available in the shop.

Just to be safe, I can't spend like crazy without getting some results, if there is any free item that gets my attention, I will try to get that and explore the way how I can use it within Daz Studio.

Otherwise, I would be satisfied If did learn something with the necessary skills and conquer all obstacles for the ultimate feat (I am really far to get there).

Some of the items I bought, I love 'em.

I want to render the way I want.

Now, I am not sure if I keep the Daz Central and all the installed contents the way is installed or I do uninstall and install it via Install Manager?

With this I would have to download all the content and save it on my Hard Drive for safekeeping.

What do you suggest me to do?

I can sympathize, I had some perplexing results early in the promotion myself. A few things to consider:

-I suspect that the expiry time for the streak count is 00:00 UTC (also supported by a couple other users), which for you in NZ is 10:00 AM. Your streak will drop by one if you do not buy something by then. Not exactly sure when the timer starts, but I know I was stuck losing a day of the streak every day if I purchased later in the evening (after 8:00PM EDT for me). Make a purchase, streak goes up, next day, streak goes down again after a certain time.

I think I can confirm that the streak count expires at 00:00 UTC time. I put a bunch of stuff in my cart a couple hours past midnight Daz time, and at that point, my streak was, miraculously, at six days and 12% (after having been stuck at 5% for a couple days). I wasn't able to check out at that point, went and did a few other things for the rest of the day, and just came back to it, and the cart is at 10% and five days. It's still more than two hours until Daz midnight, so store rollover has nothing to do with when the streak resets down ... but it only goes to the next level UP at Daz midnight. There's a four hour gap where the streak is essentially taking no real notice of what you do.

What baffles me is why Daz set anything to do anything at UTC midnight. They haven't before, and there's no huge benefit to anyone to doing it now.

This isn't suppose to be the behavior. It is not suppose to effect the discount until Daz midnight. I reported it.

Well, for what it's worth, it happened again today. I put two things in the cart just past Daz midnight, and the meter said I was on Day 7 and 14% discount. Came back to the cart at 7:59pm Central/6:59 pm Daz/Mountain Daylight time, and it says that it's Day 6 and 12% discount. I'm guessing that the coding has been set in such a way that this isn't fixable and It's resetting at UTC midnight no matter what. Basically, if you don't check out by 5:59PM Daz/Mountain Daylight time/6:59pm Central/7:59pm Eastern/4:59pm Pacific, you will lose a day. (Also, this means that it's ignoring up to 7 hours of cart activity in the continental US, depending on where in the country you live, not just the four hours I mentioned earlier, which is REALLY impressive. Moreover, because the percentages don't increase until Daz midnight, the people outside the continent are losing this time on the front end of the sale hours, so it's basically whacking everyone everywhere.)

This is what I am experiencing also.

I don't have a clue on central but with Dim you can go in and set up what drive you want to use.
this is basically a three drive setup.
    ---
picture one ... you tell DIM where the downloads go ( I use a different drive than the C drive or the Data drive (a usb exteral is cheap and a good back up so you never have to download them again)
where the programs are installed, etc. There is a line that says "Content Base Path" which in this picture says G/15 Bard ... this is okay because this field always shows the current install path.
    ---M
picture 2... basic DIM interface note in the lower corner the tick box for Show Details (one in the other corner says Delete Package after Install --- only use that if you have llmited space like only one drive)
picture 3 shows interface with the details showing
where it currently says Recommended DAZ stutio folder .. that puts everything on the C drive
But its a drop down menu and once you open it you can add your own folder on another drive
Like the one in the first picture G/15 Bard which installs any content checked for installation on the G drive in a folder named 15 Bard.
You can create a folder on your D drive .. My daz or whatever.
    ---
I install core items like genesis starter stuff and scripts and collections of just morphs to the recommended folder which is now about 20g
The rest I install to other folders.  the other folders or your single one are added to the content library using the drop down menu up in the corner of the content window to add them as base directorys
the first level of your content library would then have two folders. my daz library and meduannas folder similiar to the last image. although I have always sorted my stuff into folders to use as directories
    ---
C drive program and important files, D drive your installed/data drive, E another drive you download your installer files on, and another drive letter doesn't matter at this point but you copy/clone your D drive all your installed files on to it. If your D drive ever dies you pull it out of the system and use the computer management tools to reset the drive letter on your backup drive to D and you're ready to go in about 5 minutes even if you lost your original data drive.

Thank you for your more elaborate answer to my issue. (to all others with similar less elaborate answers, thanks to you too for answering)
I have tried these things, but it just doesn't work! All... this fiddling with paths just doesn't go over well with my PC, the software or a combination.
I had these issues (with installing to different drives) from when the new update/version released (which I am not sure when happened. Some time since last I used it and now)
that heavily changed the UI/UIX, ...and it seems until another overhaul comes ...I just can't use DAZ Studio.
Here is to hoping development of the software goes faster, to make it usable for me again.

Yeah, I think I mixed up those two give their similar names. I have double-checked and it was the stuff in "My Daz Connect Library:data:cloud" folder that I had gone through and cleaned up as it was causing me issues. So I will retract my comments regarding Daz Central and apologise for misidentifying that as the culprit.

Maybe I will have another look at Daz Central again when I am feeling brave :)

Yeah, as I don't use it I can't comment but I imagine that if you use ONLY Daz Central then you'll probably be ok - it's just the mix-and-match that gets things in a muddle. I started using DIM over Daz Central as I first installed Daz on my Mac and I read something about Daz Central not being as well supported on OSX (whether that was right or wrong I don't know for sure). Then when I moved to also using a Windows machine that install got itself into a bit of a mess due to Daz Central. This was probably all because I was doing something wrong but I now have a setup that seems to work so I don't want to change it incase I break it again.

You said you couldn't find the stuff that Daz Central installed - I assume you know that there are two tabs in Daz where you can look for these? Daz Central should add your installed content to both. The Content Library will give you more of a "Filesystem" view where you can find stuff based on where it's been installed, in addition to a Product view where you can find installed content alphabetically. There is also a Categories list which I haven't looked into directly but appears to just be another way to look at the Smart Content. In the Smart Content you can find stuff by the metadata categorisation. This has two tabs at the top for Files and Products which changes whether the items listed are the grouped Products that you have purchased or all the separate items (materials, props etc) that the products contain. A few things to note here is that some products do not have complete metadata and so will show up in the "Lost and found" section at the top, the search bar only seems to work with complete words (atleast for me it does) and so to find the 1920s items these would show up if you searched for "boudoir" but not if you searched for "bou". There is also the "Filter by Content" tick box that limits the items to only things that have been defined as compatible with the item you have selected in the scene.  So therefore if you cannot see something you can try unchecking the filter, clearing the searchbox and clicking "All Products" in the Smart Content tab and this should show everything.

I too have a long way to go but the more we practice the better we become and the software will become less daunting :)

@Paintbox, I will follow up the suggestions to watch the videos in YouTube, even tought it exasperate me so much parrot talking, in the other hand, a written guide is much better, practicing everything step by step, I would like to get sailing in no time.

@SofaCitizen, I have read in another part of the forum about Install Manager, not sure it this method will work better than Daz Central.

I would like to work offline and try to concetrate my efforts in knowing better the software.

I don't know if an Intel Atom powered 2-in-one can at least do for me at a time I want to, offline mode; my tower PC has much better specs than the little machine but there are moments when I need something more flexible at hand

I do not think I will become a Leonardo Davinci overnight, I will keep trying.

  • I am beginner to Daz Studio, I have tried my luck in vain...

I am new too and so perhaps not the best to offer advice so not sure how much help these will be but I will try anyways.

Firstly, I don't use Daz Central so I cannot speak about that - I try and do everything via Daz Install Manager. I did originally have some "mix-and-match" with some assets installed one way and some via another way but it seems that this can cause issues so I think you should pick one and stick with it. This is info I have read from other people and I can see that they have different ways of logging what has been installed so it makes sense to me to use only one. I have manually uninstalled everything that was previously installed via Daz Central and reinstalled with DIM and also logged off via the Daz3D application itself (working "offline") so that it cannot interfere with the DIM packages which seems to have brought the asset management under control a bit.

For the other part of your issue - you're gonna have to put some time into learning. If you are familiar with another 3D program then there is probably some cross-over but if not then there is going to be lots to learn. The interface may seem cluttered but there is a lot of functionality so it has to go somewhere. It can be customised tho so you can remove panels that you don't understand for now and then re-add them when you want to explore what they do.

Other than that, I second what Paintbox said - watch some Youtube videos. That's what I have spent most of my time doing. There is not a massive amount of users posting Daz3D-specific stuff but some that are have a lot of good content for both beginners and intermediate level on their channels. I don't know the rules about posting names/links here but if you search YouTube they will hopefully come up.

  • I am beginner to Daz Studio, I have tried my luck in vain...

Hello, I wish I could use and master the Daz Studio software, Version 4.20.0.2.

I have installed it via Daz Central 64-bit under Windows 10 and now 11.

I have an Nvidia RTX 3060 GeForce Ready Driver 516.59

I have tried to use the program, after doing the interactive lessons, I have tried to load and create the poses with the content I have bought from the store.

I could not recreate anything with that, the interface is a bit cluttered, I have tried to follow some of the video tutorials with no such results, I prefer the either the interactive way or some written instuctions.

I have contacted product support, which is useless in a way to get me started with the software.

    Now this what I have:

    https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-miki-the-witch-outfit-set-for-genesis-8-females

    https://www.daz3d.com/ronin-warrior-outfit-for-genesis-8-females

    https://www.daz3d.com/bra-and-panty-lingerie-set-for-genesis-3-female-s

    https://www.daz3d.com/sexy-time-lingerie

I started with Miki the Witch, I tried to look for all content installed via Daz Central; there was nothing I can see and use.

I uninstalled and re-installed the software and all content several times.

Using paint.net and GIMP, at least I can manage to use it, Daz Studio is far complex to anything I have tried before.

I am hopeless without any success.

Can you point me if there is anything I can do and get an smooth start without any issues?

I am posting this as a last resort, thanks for your patience, I would appreciate your help into guiding me in the right direction.

Would be great to hear an official update on the status of this project. Think it's safe to say the announcement from last year was premature so it would be professional to dissolve some of the mystery surrounding the situation.

That's what gets to me; the lack of communication concerning what or when to expect something. I understand the M1 Mac is/was a new thing at the time but this process has taken so long that even the M1 Mac is now outdated! I've finally given up on the wait and uninstalled the Daz content on my M1 Macbook Air. I have the 256GB version and can't afford to just let gigs of Daz content continue to waste space on my drive for another 2+ years.

But Daz was able to get 4.x.x.x working on M1 machines, which is why they are not pushing for an early release on DS5 as they were - Install manager seems to eb better than Daz Central on the M1 systems, but once you have that and the current Daz Studio you should be able to work.

Yes DIM works much better than Daz Central on my M1 - I have little to no issues installing content and running Daz; it's just the overall lack of performance from Daz not being optimized to run on the M1. When I first purchased the M1 (which I admittedly jumped the gun on) I was kinda expecting iray/filament to work 'out of the box' and just expected better overall. For the extent of the wait for Daz 5 my solution was to export my Daz scenes to Blender - seeing as it is better optimized for rendering on M1 than Daz. But even that has it's own hiccups and issues in which I'm not as proficient in the Blender program, so I slowly lost interest.

You may want to adjust your expectations a bit more as although Iray will utilize CPUs, it's designed and optimzed to use Cuda specifically (only Nvidia GPU). DS5 won't change this fact.

  • DAZ Studios Outdated file hierarchy

  • Is there something else I can do to fix the metadata?

If you are using the 'traditional' folder structure for your content and DIM/DAZ Central/Manual installation to install your content, do not log in to DS.
Set your startup options as in the attachment.

DAZ Connect within DS uses a completely different location to store the content.

  • Installation issues

    Hi all,

I am really disapointed by your products. You seem to be aroud for 15 yers yet I have excessive difficulties installing Daz Studio.
First I downloaded and installed Daz Central. I ran it to download Daz Studio but the download didn't go well. It got stuck at 57% and then it stopped. I reran it several times but could not complete the download well as it seemed to stop alone without reason. Looking for info on the internet I found a reddit post that says that Daz Central is very unefficient and that Daz DIM was better. So I downloaded and installed DIM. DIM tried to dowload the necessary files as an automatic queue but it seems it tries to download several packs at a time. On my slow connection it becomers a nightmare as nothing gets completed. Then it seems I gave to unlog and relog to be able to install. Well I got several diificulties downloading to the point that I had to remove the autoamttic queue and download the files one at a time to at least complet all the downloads. At this point I thought my nightmare was behind me. Alas when runninig Daz Studio no files were there. I had a warning on all files that should be here : the files were not there. I searched and found that there may be content directory pointing problems. Alas even with infio I was not able to fix this. So I decided to desinstall the packages and resintall them. To no point. Then I decided to uninstall everything, Studio, DIM , Central, and make a fresh install. I resinstalled DIM and Daz Studio alone and launched it. I got a message telling me that I need to install postgre sql CMS and i did. but I could not install it as the installer tells me another version is already installed. As advised I tried to desinstall the previous version but windows can't find another installation on my machine.
This is the point where I am now. Quite angry and disapointed . I don't think I had so many problems installing an application in my whole life. I lost half a day trying to install this software to no point.

Why Central and DIM try to download several packs at once instead of properly queuing them ion the correct order ? I'm not an expert but this seems to be the root of all the installtion problerms. As some other people tried to resume thheir installtion from Central to  Dim to better manage it. Maybe the 2 installations are confliting each other. Anyway I stil ldon't understand why the installtion process is so complicated.

So right now i don't know what tio do as I seem stuck. Even a fresh reinstall does not work. This is insane. Please try to help me out.

87F inside my house now at dusk by morning it will be 80F or a bit higher. When I lived in DFW I refused to use air conditionig because of the extreme costs. but, LOL, being in overheated steamy apartments wan't pleasant then and it isn't now, decades later. I at least have an small table model electric Hawaiian Tropic fan nowadays (that adds more to an electric bill then you'd think).

I am in DFW and ca't live without AC, no matter the cost. I can't sleep when it is hot, have the AC crancked up with the ceailing fan and a stand up fan on me in bed and it still isn't cool enough now.

I don't know how you all afford it. LOL. I hate an electric bill over $35 but nowdays because of inflation I have to pay $55. angry

I can sleep through anything apparently. I still know people out there and they say the last few years have been worse than that year in '96, Jul or Aug I think, when smoke from giant fires in Central America obscurred most of Texas skies with smoke from the fires.

I would kill for a $55 electric bill. Mine is usually around $130, but in the summer hits as high as $220 with the AC on all the time and fans going. My buddy has a house and his was $470 last month.

I know folk that have had electric bills over $600 from heating their house that February when it dropped as low as -25 Fahrenheit and stayed below 0 (most of February).
