Michael 5 Missing from Genesis Flash Sale?I haven't been able to find a proper place to ask this, or report it since it's not a problem with the software/products themselves. But after looking at all the items in the 48hour Genesis Flash Sale, I noticed that Michael 5 is not among them, despite it having Aiko 5, Freak 5, David 5, Hiro 5, and Victoria 5. Is this a goof?
I'd really like to know BEFORE the sale is over, because I'd like to purchase him, along with 11 other items in my shopping cart for that 80% discount. If he's not supposed to be included, then I should go ahead and buy something else before the sale ends.
Tween Julie 7OK folks. I got it fix!! I took what nightwolf1982 did a bit further. I Extracted both Victoria 7 FBM(I couldn't find G3F) and Tween Julie 7 FBM. I opened each one of them in a text editor. I copied each of the thumbs "x" orinatation that nightwolf explained above from Victoria 7 and replaced them into Jule 7 "x" values(keeping each of the spaces) and whamo!!! It worked!!!! It work on both loadng the TWJ7 character or Loading genesis and dialing her up.
So I wanted to check my other two character and extracted Camdyns and Olivettes.
Camdyns is ajust a modifier, there were no hand, fingers, etc to change. So whether I load her from her charater or dial her into genesis.
Olivette, on the other hand had values in her FBM files for the hads and fingers. So I did the same thing. Much better that before. the thumb bends in just a little bit. but at least it doesn't have that weird twist.
The attached files shows the all four with the same hand pose. I also attached what it looks like when you open the text editor. The other one show what Olivette hands look like before I did this. she was the reason that made me dig even futher into this.
Thanks again go to nightwolf1982 for showing us how to "extract" the fbm. Now I no how to fix this kinda stuff for the future.
Muscle map for genesis modelsWhat is the original genesis model ? - the naming system is confusing. I find I have Michael 3 and Victoria 3.
Also I cant find a coherent explanation on what the difference is between the model versions
Some years ago, Scott Livingston wrote up a history of the evolving generations of Daz figures that might shed some light http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/24257/
Genesis 3 add on worth it?Ultimate Natural Bend Morphs for Victoria 7 - user adjustable? Is the level, or intensity, of the morphs in this set:
http://www.daz3d.com/ultimate-natural-bend-morphs-for-victoria-7
user adjustable in some way? Either by a control dial in the set, or via some tweakery in Studio?
The reason I ask is that, to me, some of the morphs in the promos look a bit strong / basic and would benefit from toning down a little. Maybe this appearance is due to the lower res G3 mesh, what with the product not being HD. Previous Ultimate Bend Morph sets didn't have this issue, at least not as obviously.
virtual penny 4 yor carrara thoughts ?If you have Hexagon, I have a great workflow for adding morphs to conforming item and/or the figures themselves:
1 - Load the original item into Daz Studio
2 - With the item selected, go File > Send to Hexagon
3 - In Hexagon, make at least some small adjustment to the mesh. If you like, you could go ahead and start the first morph you wish to make - that's what I do, but I like modeling in Carrara better, so I don't work very much on it - just give it a start.
4 - Go File > Send to Daz Studio........... this will bring up a dialog window
5 - The window looks blank with a button saying that the action will create a morph. Just below that, there's a little cube icon with and arrow. Click the Arrow to open the panel. (At first, this list of stuff look confusing. It's not once you get the hang of what to do)6 - Leave the defaults the way they are, except for where it says: "Property Group:" > "Morphs/MorphLoader" (disregard the extra window in my screen shot which has "Actor" highlighted - we're not using that)
7 - Right-click on "Morphs/MorphLoader" to change the name of the Property group. This is the name that the morphs will be under when the Figure (Like Victoria 4, for example) is selected, so name it whatever you want - I call mine "dBFX", for example. This is the real reason for doing all of this in the first place, because it will give us a selection in the Vertex Modeler that we can select for making morphs on ANY part or ALL parts of the model, instead of only being able to model the morph on Neck, Head, Abdomen, etc., separately, which is a pain! So in my example, in Carrara, when I want to make a morph that spans the neck, chest, and abdomen regions, and may even pull on a collar or two... I go into the morph region selection and choose: dBFX and ADD my morphs to that!
8 - When you're done changing the name of the morph's properties group, click "Accept"Now, from Daz Studio, I always turn the new morph dial down to 0.00
Then export the item as CR2, if that's what it is - or whatever type it was to begin with.
Star FigureStar is a stand alone figure from RDNA. Think of Star as similar to Victoria 4, but for people who like toon renders - such as me.
Thus the clothes for Star are just for Star, not for a line of Genesis 1,2,3 morphs. Someone could make a morph for the genesis figures to mimic the Star model mesh shape. The toon flash sale includes quite a few stand alone toon figures, including Chip, Cookie, Sadie, the wolf, turtle, and other animal toons, more figure from 3DUniverse, and much more. There may be utilities to convert star clothing for other figures, or vice versa, such as Phil Cooke's Wadrobe Wizard, which is included in many versions of Poser. (EDIT: note that PhilC's wardrobe wizard would require purchasing the add-on pack for igures that you want to convert clothing between). The most "un-Amazing" salesJudging by some of the replies it seems the discount sale will be amazing for some.
I think it depends on what a buyer uses DAZ Studio for and how long that they've been coming to this site.
If a purchaser is a five year veteran of this site, or doesn't like toons and Genesis - then, yes, this sale is no good for them.
(When I go to Renderosity to buy, I can clearly see which PA merchants disavow all existence of the Legacy 5 models entirely. These merchants have tons of content for Victoria 4 and then, BAM - a long gap and then they start making make content for Genesis 3 Female. Usually Genesis 2 & 1 get the shaft.)
Also, if a buyer is a newbie or newer member here, like me - and/or likes stylized models over realism and/or simply enjoys the plethora of morphs that Genesis 1 has available to its character library - then this sale is amazing.
I'll take any sale that DAZ has to offer and weigh out the pros and cons. Do I need the item? Will I ever foresee needing it in the future? Can I wait and see if the sale gives better buying options, higher percentage off numbers, or will it give more package and bulk options later down the line? Are the material Iray only? <---- this is a huge factor for me, because I don't have the equipment to render in this mode, and I often don't have time to tweak all of the shaders zone by zone.
Genesis 3 add on worth it?I'm sorry for my bad english. I mean I was loking for a comparison between victoria 7 with add on and other pic without it
Could you maybe post the url for the shop page of the Add-On you are writing about?
For example: http://www.daz3d.com/victoria-7 or http://www.daz3d.com/victoria-7-hd-add-on
Then maybe someone can try to show you the difference you ask to see.
Genesis 3 add on worth it?I'm running renders, so I can't do one for a while, but since you have the base, you could always do a render of her and compare her to the picture of Victoria 7. You do understand that without Victoria 7, she's just the base you already have, right?

Genesis 3 add on worth it?Are you asking for a pic of the Genesis 3 Base and the base with the Victoria morph dialed up? You have Genesis 3 Female, from what you said, so you know what that looks like. http://www.daz3d.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/0/1/01-daz3d_victoria-7_.jpg is what the Victoria morph looks like. Were you looking for something else?

PA Has Questions as to Your Figure Choices & Posing InterestsI think "Do you use the Base Figure or Characters to Start?" should use checkboxes. Or at least have an Other, where I can mention how I use the figures and characters. (Sometimes I start with the base Genesis 2/3 figure, sometimes I start with a named figure or character. Sometimes I dial in morphs to change the looke of the character, etc.)
Also, my answers are the same whether I'm using male or female models: I do buy poses, (they make a great starting point;) I prefer buying realistic everyday poses; I use Genesis 2 and Genesis 3 roughly the same percentage, I use Genesis but not nearly as often as the later generations; More often than not, I do not start with the base figure, or Michael/Victoria, but I do from time to time. I usually load the figure I'm planning on using, then tweak the morphs to get the look I'm going for. With the ladies, that often means dialing down the size of the breasts.
Tween Julie 7@lx "Then again I just fired up Josie 7 and realised that despite how nice I think she looks overall, her skin material is very sallow brown 'Victoria 7' looking by default."
Here are 2 Josie 7 renders with the default "all maps" skin. HDRI lighting. No adjustment of anything. Looks pretty good to me.
Is this the tone you see?
Yeah that's the same as what I get. The texture is fine but the colour feels a bit desaturated for me (of course this is just opinion; I'm not trying to say Josie is a bad character. She's actually one of my favourites, I just rarely use her skin because the oldest Genesis 3 characters all seem to have those same settings hence all the complaints people used to make.)
Looking at some more renders of Julie I think my issue with her texture is that the eyebrows are very distinctly done, but since they're a texture they're completely flat. I don't know if there was ever a good or at least realistic solution to this, it's just what I think when I look at it. I think that Julie 7 looks more related to Josie 6 than 7.
Basically I don't think these are issues with character creation just my reception to them.
The lack of morphs that Julie 5 had is an objective downside though.
p.s. I also have the thumb bounding box issue on Julie 7.

Tween Julie 7Just did a quick comparison of all the official teens/young teens/tweens.
This is definitely the best young one since the original Julie, though I have to second everyone who's asked what's up with her lips.
Interesting, thanks. I love comparison shots!
I don't know if I agree with the statement since it's hard not to be the best young one since the last Julie when she's the only young one since then. The teens are designed to be teens and are mostly pretty good at that.
I think she's pretty good overall - however the lack of the custom breast settings (default zero and then multiple custom breast sliders) the way Julie 5 had severely limits her functionality.
Looking at the comparison reminds me she has that same unfortunate texture look that Josie 6 had which was why I never bought Josie 6. I can't even explain what it is exactly, but the textures both have this same not quite right feeling to me. Then again I just fired up Josie 7 and realised that despite how nice I think she looks overall, her skin material is very sallow brown 'Victoria 7' looking by default.
It's a common problem for a lot of textures; dialing it down is easy enough, and also it's worth checking if the shader is still 4.8. or 4.9; in TJ's case it has been updated I noticed when just loading it in; last time I used the textures they were still set to 4.8, but that is also easy enough.

August "Diva" sale comment, for what it is worth>>Be aware that you may already own this hair even though it may not be shown as "purchased":
http://www.daz3d.com/gwen-hair-for-genesis-3-and-2-female-s-and-victoria-4
It was relased earlier as a version for "Genesis, Genesis 2 Female, Victoria 4, Aiko 4" which is no longer in the store.
