Path Length vs performance ?Thanks PerttiA ,
yes path length limit is also a topic .I don't know how DS4 react if it happens , no morph loading ? ...
"D;\Daz3D" is a good idea!
as I use turboboost loader, I imagine I must reinitialize all my morphs before changing the path.
AIUTO...CHI CONOSCE L’ITALIANO?
Mah. S.P.Q.A.

So how come that conforming clothing for G2 often shows nothing or notably less of this distortion? Does this mean that conforming clothing is easier to texture? Or did G2 generally have smaller breasts and therefore less distortion?
...well I do feel that G3 characters seem to have larger default breasts than G2 (save for the child and pre teen ones).
I have one character who is a slender "Twiggy" like individual and having a devil of a time gritting the GoGo Outfit to fit and look as it should (particularly using the black & white "mod" texture) . Also dialling breasts down past a certain point tends to distort the underlying breast structure (similar to what used to occure with V4/A4) which also affects the look of the fit as well. One issue I constantly run into with "less endowed" characters is anything with a stripe or linear like pattern (such as gingham or plaid) which tends to warp badly instead of remaining in straight lines as it should. Usually it means having to mess with projection morph sliders to try and get things to look right. but that can cause other issues as well.
I just picked up Zev0's projection Morph Manager and been experimenting with it. It seems to do an OK job if the character is to be more in the background, but close up minor distortions can be seen and there is occasional; poke through. I have to crank up the smoothing integrations quite a bit just to keep it from crumpling after autofitting.
What is needed is a true "flat chest" morph not jsut a Breasts Small or Breasts Gone one that also reduces the diameter of the breast area (back in the Gen4 days someone did create such a morph which made it easier to create pre teen and "tween" characters but textures still suffered at the time all clothing was designed with the adult Vicky/Aiko in mind). Even the Breast Volume morphs in several morph resourse kits don't reduce the diameter of the pectorals without distorting/crumpling the areola.region

Just a note-- that image you attached shows the G2 Victoria which most certainly had a custom morph and not an autofitted one for that dress.
Why we have trouble with clothing texturesFor exaggerated morphs, one can make morphs for the clothing and/or one can make new UV sets for the exaggerated clothing morph. In your modeller, use a checker template for guidance. The concept is to keep the squares, square.
Why we have trouble with clothing texturesThreee responses to comments that I would like to make:
1. It might start as a cylinder but that doesn't mean that's what the final product is. Anyone who uses Zbrush know that they have options that allow you to remesh the item which reduces the amount of stretching in a mesh.
2. People are correct when they say that once you morph the figure it will start to distort. The only way I know around that is to create custom morphs. I know that most clothing creators used to make for the iconic characters custom morphs. Most time you don't even realise you are using them as if set up correctly they automatically dial in as you dial in the character morph. However given the numbe of character Genesis now has it would be impossible to do custom morphs for all of them, that's if they even own all of them themselves.
3. Genesis 2 clothing does seem to follow very nicely and I did look at this at one stage and I noticed that the clothing templates were quite high resolution meshes which I think has an impact on how well the clothing follows. I haven't looked at the newer templates for Gen8 so I can't say if they are similar.
I think there are a lot of variables that impact on how well an item of clothing follows a character being morphed. Some is down to the clothing itself, some is the weightmapping, some is the customisation of a particular mesh. Most meshes though aren't perfect.

snip@WendyLuvsCats, great images you seem to have a knack for it.
Questions aside, a friend recently posted an image from ai which after a long dry spell art wise has inspired me to create a morph dialled character.
My friends image plus my morph...

That is a compelling image. But with AI there always something that feels out of place, in this case the hand.
I agree but still would like to try and recreate it in 3D where I can fix things like that. I'm still reinstalling and just getting familiar with playing with stuff in DS and Zbrush but eventually I plan on trying to do a custom morph inspired by it and also the clothing. I think the dynamic long curly hair is a good match for what's in the picture. Plenty of good scenery that I can use...personally I'm not really interested in playing with ai. I seen some good images from friends who post on facebook. That said I enjoy the process of playing in zbrush and get a lot of satisfaction from doing creative things in 3d I don't think typing words into a dialogue would give me the same satisfaction. I'm also enjoying seeing the images that come up in ai. So far most are fairly derivative of known styles I'm curious as to whether it can come up with something truly original.

Hey guys, in the meantime while waiting for more informed responses that might pertain to your specific situations, take a look at this and it might get you through the process in one of the many ways it can be done...

@DMax The first section is about a mass transfer options in Windows, but I'm pretty sure if you read the other couple sections regarding pointing DAZ and DIM to the location you copy your My DAZ 3D Library to, you'll be good to go. I've done the process 2 more times since posting that trying the performance of an external HDD, which was no good for me at least, @pratiktiki . I ended up replacing the few HDDs still attached to my system with internal SSDs which has made a huge difference after doing the process of copy and point DAZ and DIM again to one of those SSDs...
Hi, I'm also in the process of moving something to another hard drive because my HD is full. Regarding what you write in your linked instruction. I have not been using the "delete package once installed" option on Install Manager. Is that saving space on the hard drive? Is it something I can do with what is already installed? Or can I delete everything and re-install it with the "delete package once installed" option? What effect does it have?
Thanks.
[Solved] G8.1 Facial Morphs Failed to Install in DS4.20?If you want to use PowerPose with G8.1, you need to follow these instructions, because some of the dots are using G8 morphs that are disabled for G8.1 by default.
----------------
Making the G8 base expressions (and any expressions that are using them) work on G8.1 requires removing dummy/placeholder expressions that are installed to G8.1 morph folders - These dummy/placeholder expression files have no other function than to prevent the base G8 expressions from loading.
The dummy/placeholder files are located in;
...\Data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Female 8_1\Morphs\Daz 3D\Base Pose Head\ (255 files, can be more if you have additional DAZ expression packs)
...\Data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Female 8_1\Morphs\Daz 3D\Expressions\ (24 files, can be more if you have additional DAZ expression packs)
...\Data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Male 8_1\Morphs\Daz 3D\Base Pose Head\ (255 files, can be more if you have additional DAZ expression packs)
...\Data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Male 8_1\Morphs\Daz 3D\Expressions\ (24 files, can be more if you have additional DAZ expression packs)Please make sure you are removing the files from G8.1 morph folders and not G8 morph folders.
Note 1; If you are logging in to DS and letting DAZ Connect (within DS) to install/update your content, you may have these also in an other location that has "\Data\Cloud\" in it's path
Note 2; Do not remove any files from "FACS" or "FACSExpressions" foldersSaving a morph for redistributionIt doesn't matter where the imported OBJ file is, that is not stored by the morph.
Why we have trouble with clothing texturesTo state the obvious, morphs morph.
Many of the clothing items for sale in the Daz store (and elsewhere) are made based on geometry generated in Marvelous Designer. These items are tailor made for the base G8 (or whatever) figures. The MD program uses darts etc for fitting. The tools mimic sewing tools. The UVMapping of the panels can be maintained for the base so there that there is no distortion.
When you morph a figure, and the clothing is morphed to fit, the clothing and the UVs are distorted.
You absolutely can (1) create a full body morph to match your morphed character, (2) use MD or similar to create morphs for the clothes to fit your character full body morph, and (3) the really ambitious could redo the UV maps and direct Daz Studio to use the substitute UVMap.
The Daz Studio content creators do list which full body morphs have custom support.
Here is the Marvelous Designer interface which you can see has tool icons analogous to real world sewing.
Saving a morph for redistributionThis is a touch off topic, but it seems like a good place to throw in a question. I normally create character morphs just for personal use, so I never paid much attention to the link back to the source geometry. I did note that there is one referenced in the properties window. That made me wonder, if I wanted to package a character to share (or one day possibly sell) it, do the morph have t be created from geometry placed in a particular location, relative to other associated assets? I have asset directories for "published" content, and textures, but my meshes get loaded from my working folders for Blender. That's the source referenced in the morphs I've created.
Wait a sec... I don't see it in my saved morphs. I think what I saw was on "in progress" morphs. Just in case, I wanted to get clarification and ask if there are any other dependancies I should be aware of.

is there a Face Transfer threadI found Facegen useful for prototyping figures, but the eye distortion you mentioned is an artifact of the head morphing algorythyms used by the program. The added some correction, but you end up having to manually correct them in Blender (or the hard way by excluding the eyes from the morph and repositioning the eyes to line up properly again). However, Facegen does work from front and side shots, so the head ends up closer to the model than you can get from Face Transfer. I don't care much for the textures generated by either of them, though. I'll use the textures as a position reference when painting/compositing a new texture from base resources. So, there is a lot of work you have to do in other software, but they can help in the character creation process if you're willing to put in the work.
Looking for tough girl outfit that still works in a business/office settingkyoto kid said:
...while shopping I saw a good "tough girl" outfit today that could work by Linday that has braces (suspenders) and a tie, as well as a nice array of textures, but the downside is the shirt doesn't have a button up morph and shows too much cleavage. Might be able to used a different shirt or blouse to keep it more "business-like".

Thanks!! That might work!!
is there a Face Transfer threadGonna try Face Transfer. My results with Facegen, even when using FG files from a modller version, are not great. It has issues with the eyes and overall face shape. The FG model came out great, the facegen to Daz, not so much. And headshot did at times give really good results in its progream but BARELY made any realy changes to the actual model. Again still an issue with eye size, even with Headshop. (If I encounter big eye issues with Face Transfer, I'll have to assume my DAZ is corrupt and reinstall it completley). And some Headshot results are just weird....
Rigid Follow Nodes - rotation crazinesshello.
i have used rigid follow nodes as attachment points for buttons or bows or buckles or whatever.
some of these rotate crazily when the part of the figure mesh is moved or twisted, often far far more than you'd expect from even a tiny figure deformation.
e.g. a common button placement point is somewhere between female breasts, and this one in particular can rotate up to 180 degrees at times. a major cause of this is re-sizing the breasts; i don't know about anyone else but 99% of the women i know do not have himalayan breasts, so i normally reduce them to about 50 - 60% of vanilla G8F size using the 'breasts gone" body morph (usually set between 35% - 50%) which causes the button to flip around.
i noticed it happens more chaotically if the clothing has a smooth modifier attached to it; so in some cases i reduced it by creating an invisible un-smoothed strip of polys from the original clothing that sat just behind it, and put my RFNs on that instead. a lot better but still not good.
the last thing i tried was creating a second set of RFNs on the back of the clothing and using a Look At constraint to point the front RFNs at each of those in turn - which is much more stable but still not perfect. (i might try combining the two workarounds - e.g. put the Look At targets on an invisible strip, but positioned only a couple of inches behind the chest instead of on the figure's back. wish me luck.)
so! after all this messing around trying to get them to behave, how *should* i have done them, is there a faultless method or do they always spin around?
is there anything i can to to the selected polys to make the RFN behave better?
what is better, a small narrow selection of polys (or even just a single poly) or a wide area of many polys per RFN?
SF Ball Jointed Dolls for Genesis 8 and 8.1 Bugged?Oh, the other one I reported was because on the Daz page it shows and advertises that the Trident can morph, and the slider bars are there for it- but they do nothing. So, every month, I contact the same Daz rep that's been helping me, and he tells me that it is still there at the highest priority he can set it at. But, no luck. I live just down the street from Daz HQ here, one of these days I should buy him a little gift and give it to him, because he's stayed positive, even though Sixus has not fixed it in all these months. With the thing here though, the product itself is working fine (I just cannot use it until the fix the meta thing you mentioned lol). Hopefully, you are right, and it won't take 7 months! lol
