I still have interest in making a couple of products I have ideals of for the DAZ Store but I know that they will be stolen as soon as I do. It doesn't matter to me though, if I get what I want to do accomplished, I will still publish them (I might not though as it's difficult work maybe I lack the motivated patience or the smarts) as I'd do it for fun, and not to make a living, although I could surely use the extra income (which probably wouldn't be much and would docked from my disability income anyway, besides the headaches in extra government paperwork and meetings with the government officials that me publishing such products would cause).
Ooh, yeah. The system is set up so that if you can pole-vault into a full-time job, you can leave assistance; but otherwise the disincentives for trying to gradually climb out of it are fierce.
I, too, expect to make a few things to publish -- more things, if the first succeed well enough. Probably not here, though, since I'm moving out of this market. There was once the possibility that I wouldn't; but Daz hasn't updated Carrara or Hexagon. That means I had little choice, if I wanted to model, but to learn Blender. Once I've gone to that trouble, I usually might as well stay in Blender.
I'll likely still buy occasional sets and props as long as I can easily convert them. (And, yeah, that's opportunity cost. I want to spend my time making the things I want that don't already exist. If they do, I'll buy them.)
Good luck. I was already pretty long in the tooth when I was classed as disabled and 10 plus years have passed since. Even with my demonstrated experience at on the job learning at different jobs at my age and with my disability no business or government is interested (actually one was) and I've applied to many. I am going back to university again probably and earn another degree or certificate in some sort of technical specialty and so what that gets me. No student loans though! None. I will do without at today's prices!!! I am also still gathering all the hardware to be able to complete work offline without external interference but I've got about another $750 worth of hardware to complete that task to my satisfaction. I'm satisfied.

DAZ was experimenting with encryption of products at some point, only for a year from release date actually, then they would be decrypted again, which seem to be a fair compromise to me. I don't see it as a problem as long as I can still use my products during the encryption period, but the majority of users didn't want to buy these products, so DAZ dropped the idea again.
because it didn't stop the pirates
it just stopped paying customers from being able to use the content in my case Carrara users
Pretty much this is the problem, this sort of thing does not hurt the pirates, but it can hurt the legitimate paying customer.

I don't believe the pirates broke it - theya re a pretty lazy bunch, they don't generally get updates even.
Could be a concept: sell subscriptions to figures instead of selling the figures, like:
Release version: the figure + one set of textures for the skin, maybe 2 or 3 make up variations and 1 tattoo
Then dropfeed updates;
2 additional make up variations (and maybe an additional tattoo) once every two weeks
1 skin variation every monthIt all depends on the features the figure has, ofcourse, but it could stretch for 1 to 3 months before a figure is really complete. Pirates will have long moved on by that time, and thus, pirated copies will generally be incomplete. Paying customers may be annoyed at first, but I figure they'll get used to it. At least, paying customers should get their updates almost automatically through the DIM. This wouldn't be a good thing to do with the main Daz characters (as they're too important and Daz needs people to showcase them as much as possible), but could make sales more reliable for the PA's.
People who want to buy an immediately feature-complete figure would have to look at the Daz main characters, or at PA figures that are 2 or 3 months old, obviously. Their benefit there would also be that those are often cheaper from stacking discounts.

Octane Plugin for Carrara compatibility problem.looks like it's the end of Octane
Carrara still works,
good thing my computer wouldn't support a 40## card either by looks

subscription ware is like that, they make stuff obsolete so you need to pay

yeah if you can afford it grabbing a secondhand 2080Ti cheap wouldn't be a bad idea
I have similar redundancy issues with my old Win7 rig that wouldn't even support later Windows due to hardware limitations so later DAZ studio versions than 4.21 wouldn't use iray on a GPU if I can ever even get my 980Ti to not blackscreen it (more hardware issues) I do use both computers though,
a cheap second computer for Carrara with Octane could also be an option for you
Octane Plugin for Carrara compatibility problem."Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to us..
Octane v4 does not support the latest GPUs like your RTX 4070.
Octane supports such newer GPUs starting from version v2020.2.
I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have any further queries.Kind regards,
Gabriele
Octane Support Team"
Then is settled, my octane plugin for Carrara is dead. (Unless I pay for subscription, what makes no sense since I paid a lot for that plugin)
I will try to install my old RTX 1080 on my new rig aside my 4070, but I think It will be impossible with my current power supply.I will need a new power source. I'll come back and tell you my result when I get it.
Thank you for your answers, I really hope this isn't the end of Carrara for me.Can Carrara (any version) be installed to a portable USB stick to hop PC on the fly ?it probably could ( I haven't tried ) but I have copied the Carrara folder from one PC to a new PC and run it without installing it.
will need the serial though I would think on the PC you are trying it on.
Can Carrara (any version) be installed to a portable USB stick to hop PC on the fly ?A few other softwares [be installed to a portable USB stick to hop PC on the fly] have this ability, eg Lightwave and the portable version of Blender. I realise there may be an OS compatibility issue per machine, but can Carrara essentially be portable in this way ?
A forest...Thanks guys for these precious infos.
Nope, I don't have Carrara, I've been thinking about getting it since a while though...
I quiet like the mystical forest....I'm gonna try with this one. Thanks !!
Cheers !!

Octane Plugin for Carrara compatibility problem.Sorry to hear about the problems. I still run Carrara almost daily on a high spec 12 core AMD machine with Win10. But not with some of the plugins you list. Good luck with the fixes folks here recommend.

Hi, thank you for your answers, I just sent an email to otoy support team, I hope they can give me a fix. Octane have this amazing look that I can't reach with Iray. It would be very sad I can't use my licence anymore.
Anyway, Carrara started to ask me too for my Architools plugin serial, and it seems to forgot it every time I open Carrara again. Very weird.run as administrator
also grab the version that is opensource https://github.com/Chaplier/inagoni/releases/tag/v1.0?fbclid=IwAR3lM3yptVqAqC6-z4AISXXDEboBuyb0Ipr54jOZbzzdFn44PQlPlegqgEk

Octane Plugin for Carrara compatibility problem.Well... I recently bought a new PC rig with Ryzen 7 and RTX 4070, so today I tried to run my beloved Carrara and it's Octane plugin, but it seems not work anymore with this rig.
Pretty sad, I paid a very expensive price for this plugin, but I can't go back to my old PC. Maybe it's just time to say goodbye to this beautiful, but so long abandoned software. :(Challenge 60 POLL - RESULTSAnd ask the Carrara Peopl to vote & or anyone else + Thanx
I'm buying a desktop PC, and these are the specifications it has. How well would Daz3D run?...If you are looking to use 3DL (or Carrara): system memory and CPU core count become even more important. While setting up scenes Daz only uses a single CPU core, however 3DL and teh Carrara render engines will use as manythreads as you can throw at when rendering. If that is what you are looking at I'd go with an AMD Ryzen CPU as you can get more fast processor threads for the money than with Intel since the latter has gone to a CPU architecture that splits the i7/i9 CPU cores between efficiency (slower single threaded) and Power (faster dual threaded).cores. For example an 8 core CPU will have 6 dual threaded and 2 single thread ores for a total of 14 instead of 16 threads.
Also for Iray rendering keep in mind that Windows WDDM in 10 & 11 reserves about 1 GB of VRAM for its own purposes and there is no way around it. So that 12 GB GPU actually has around 11 GB available for rendering.. The best way to go if you can afford it is a lower VRAM GPU to drive the display(s) (or a CPU with built in graphics) and a higher VRAM one that is reserved just for rendering (not hooked up to the displays. (however this will slightly affect the response when using Iray view mode.
Again it all depends on the complexity of the scenes you plan to create.
I tend to go with fairly "heavy" scenes with a lot of figures, items and effects. as well as higher render quality and larger render formats. If you are just doing portraits or single character/simple scenes, 12 GB of VRAM (and for 3DL a 12 core/24 thread Ryzen) should be more than enough. If you are looking at using 3DL on a regular basis I would check out Wowie's AweShading kit (available at the other store, so apologies, no link) which can produce near Iray like quality As most priducts today are created using only Iray shaders you will need this script: to help with conversion.

Here is a thread to see some of the results, In particular check out hte images by Sven Dullah as he uses the AweShader..
