  • Mixamo & CMU mocaps working with DAZ Studio - solutions in thread

It also looks as if you can't use the pack option on Mixamo, unless I'm missing something. (And please holler if you know what it is! :) )  If I add animations to a pack, then I don't have the Skin/Without Skin option, but have T-Pose, Original Pose, and No Character as options. And none of those give the option when importing to DAZ to specify the FBX as mixamo.com, but rather show a "normal" open file dialog box where the only FBX option is Autodesk, which imports incorrectly.

You're welcome. smiley (Yes, it "hiccups" from time to time. I guess that's the "peak times" when more people are connected than their server can handle).

That's indeed the case, you didn't miss anything. Packed FBX's doesn't work for some unknown reason, but packed BVH's will. Unfortunately the people at Mixamo haven't given an answer on my request yet. sad

Using DigiDotz's recommended method I'm getting some weird distortions after creating an aniBlock or saving as an animated pose file (in .duf format) on motions where the fingers are also animated. They don't appear on the freshly transfered motion, though. Weird.

I made a quick vid using the "Basic OpenGL" rendering option and using Mixamo's now abandoned "DAZ Victoria" to export as BVH. The animation was then imported in Studio on Victoria 4 and made into an aniBlock. Used on the Genesis 2 female with the use of my shareCG freebie on a sub track:

  • Infinite Insanity - There's ALWAYS Another Sale! (Daily Sale Talk)

Something bugging me about today's sale.  Merrick and MynX were both released by the same artist today, with some nice battle-damaged textures.  Yet Merrick costs more than his female counterpart.  This has me a bit annoyed.

  • Could Daz Store let us rate/review products?

This leads to a possible can-o-worms that DAZ probably is wisest in not opening.

    Yes, it does.

BUT its a can of worms that DESPERATELY NEEDS TO BE OPENED.

I have spent THOUSANDS of dollars here over the last 10 years. Most of the products are pretty good, some need SERIOUS improvement.

The biggest area for improvement (on the bad products) is CLEARER PROMOTIONAL IMAGES. A great many show several products that are NOT INCLUDED in a way that implies they are. (the most common being the use of a consistent HAIR on Character Morphs, but lets assume that we know that Characters don't usually come with hair... even if they REALLY SHOULD. Also one EXPECTS characters to come with TEXTURES, though quite a few are missing key parts therein. Sadly, most of the Characters sold appear to be little more that a slight tweak of the geometry and if we are lucky a base skin we don't already have. What exactly am I buying here for $20??? I already have HUNDREDS of Facial Morphs purchased, what makes yours worth getting???)

Many of the products used in promotional images AREN'T EVEN AVAILABLE THROUGH THE DAZ3D STORE! (that's a violation of PA ToS)

99% of the time they DO NOT DISCLAIM at the bottom "Products used in Promotional Images", in fact the Notes area on most products is COMPLETELY BLANK. (Most notably again on Characters, show me 1 entry in the whole store where a Character Morph product lists/acknowledges the HAIR they used IN EVERY PROMOTIONAL IMAGE for their product. Same goes for Outfits used to promote Characters, they almost never credit the outfit/link to the product)

Often the REQUIRED PRODUCTS/COMPATIBILITY section is errored/missing key information (this translates to problems with the DAZ Install Manager), such as a certain Ron's brushes product that says its compatible with Photoshop CS through CS6, and that it has separate installers for for CS6+ and CS5- . The Product only defines CS6 and CS5 - so in order to use it with older versions you HAVE to lie to the installer and tell it that you have CS5 installed (and point it to the version you do have) -- there is another like this that requires you to define a program path for Photoshop 7.0 (aka CS0), even though the description says it works with newer versions (7.0-CS5)

While I appreciate the large quantity of products made available through the RuntimeDNA merger, most of these are THE WORST OFFENDERS. The promotional images ARE STRETCHED AND SQUASHED because they were designed for a smaller preview and different Aspect Ratio. Most products have ONLY ONE PREVIEW IMAGE. (and its TINY) Many products are sold PIECEMEAL - showing an entire outfit ensamble in the (only) preview picture, but only selling the shirt... or the shoes, belt, socks, watch, ring, necklace, etc. Many do not clearly indicate what they include. Some are sold as bundles, but do not have BUNDLE INCLUDES or INCLUDED IN BUNDLE entries linking the products together and giving you credit for purchases so you don't buy the same item twice by mistake. This information DESPERATELY NEEDS TO BE UPDATED (as an existing PA you wouldn't even pass review with submissions like these, it has brought the overall quality of the store down.)

And how else are we to motivate authors to provide better descriptions of what is included, if not by giving them feedback with public accountability.

I realize how intimidating this is, and as I have been entertaining the idea of becoming a PA I appreciate what this means for sales. It means sales will go UP, because shoppers can have MORE CONFIDENCE in what they are buying. And yes, for those few products that are deliberately ambiguous and misleading, there may be a decline- but overall sales will only grow from better TRANSPARENCY and ACCOUNTABILITY.

And yes, ratings for products that are OLDER THAN METHUSELAH and still asking NEW PRODUCT PRICE will decline over time AS THEY SHOULD, product lifecycle should be pushing content for generations 1, 2, and 3 out or seriously discounting them -OR- the products COULD BE UPDATED to work with newer generation models.

Ratings/Feedback will improve overall quality of Products and the DAZ Store itself. It will bring problems to the attention of the Published Artists and the DAZ3D Staff rather than leave them for unsuspecting Customers to find the hard way. As far as 30 days money back- its great in theory, but surely I'm not the only one here who has purchased HUNDREDS of products (while on sale) that I have not even tried yet. (at last count my install manager said 4000+, and that's not even counting the DAZ Connect or ShareCG products. To date, I've used/loaded less than half into a scene. And I've been a customer since Victoria 3 was new... which I believe is right around the time the store opened, as I recall that Victoria 1 and 2 were free downloads I used to tinker around with in Poser 4. )

A good way to handle feedback/ratings is in much the same manner as product submissions. Allow the Artists and Staff to review them first (and the staff can block them IF and ONLY IF they are spam or harassment, but the artists can only REPORT/FLAG them as Spam/Inappropriate- not actually delete them directly.) But this may be too much work for already busy staff.

Perhaps the best way is to require users TO BE LOGGED IN to an account that has been ACTIVE FOR AT LEAST 30 DAYS and has purchased something in that time. It might seem reasonable to limit review of a product to only those who have purchaased it, and yes for detailed comments that would be prudent. BUT for unfairly marketed/incomplete product descriptions this would be an easy out- for those at least users should have the same right to FLAG CONTENT AS INAPPROPRIATE/INCOMPLETE that the Published Artists should have for feedback/reviews.

In fact, perhaps that would be enough. A Star Rating system for purchasers, and a Report to Staff if the product page needs work. This, in turn, should go to the Published Artists first so they may try to implement the suggestion/correction, and thus not creating extra work for staff UNLESS the artist is unavailable or ignores repeated complaints. Once a product received a certain number of similar complaints, it could be forced into review by staff or artist.

Handling this in aggregate through ratings/feedback would REDUCE THE NUMBER OF TICKETS staff have to review about product complaints, thus saving the company money.

So, lets get that daburn can-opener out and get to FISHIN with them Worms!

Regarding the stuff from RuntimeDNA with only one preview image: if it's a figure, I suspect most of the preview images wouldn't have been allowed due to nudity rules here, and older figures are more likely to be nit worth the effort to update them.

Regarding figures in general: morphs and skins are what vendors and most customers want made available.

  • Genesis 2 and Aniblocks

what are aniblocks you working with?  Did you try a different set of aniblocks to see if you got the same results?  V4 ani blocks usually work just fine with genesis 2 characters , But you do have to add a genesis foot off set aniblock to the sub track to correct the feet.   Also some of dantanback sword works aniblocks don't work well with genesis or gensis 2 v I'm not sure why But i have always had trouble with the characters becoming distorted.   But they work great for v4

I bought the V4 belly dancing aniblock and, apart from curled back fingers and odd-shaped feet, my character will stay in place.

I've also just tried the expressions on the G2F base (with no morphs or characters), a G2F with the Lilith 6 morph and, Lilith 6 and they work fine.

It's just the G2 aniblocks that I'm having problems with:

V6/G2F High Heel Walk aniblock http://www.daz3d.com/victoria-6-genesis-2-female-s-high-heel-walk-aniblock

    V6/G2F Jogging aniblock http://www.daz3d.com/victoria-6-genesis-2-jogging-aniblock

Genesis 2 Female(s) Expression and Face aniblock http://www.daz3d.com/genesis-2-female-expressions-face-aniblocks

Genesis 2 Male(s) Expression and Face aniblock http://www.daz3d.com/genesis-2-male-expressions-face-aniblocks

It just seems to be my own model that has a problem with aniblocks.

  • AIUTO...CHI CONOSCE L’ITALIANO? PARTE UNDICI

    Ciao a tutti,

    Ciao e grazie

  • Novica & Forum Members Tips & Product Reviews Pt 7

Ignore the fact my character on the right is floating (she's a magician's assistant, obviously),  I wanted you to see the original Star and body vs what you can do with dialing her body in about 24%. Her head was 45%.  Amaya and Tahnee are good additions to Star or Stella. The second image is Stella, and look at the striations above her upper lip, below the nose. Very light, but there.  I messed with the teeth because they were too squarish for my preferences, and I still want them more rounded. So note those are not the default teeth, and may be the cause of the striations? Swam's Anny Hair is cute for anime.

  • hi can someone tell me who the model is in this pic on the left , thanks so much

I have no idea, but she reminds me of a Sabby character. She just has that look about her and she is really close in looks to Sabby - Tiffany by Fred Wrinkler Art and Sabby:

I don't think that this is the same model, but close so I would probably look at other models by these two vendors.  Good luck!

  • V4 Skins Batch Converter to Genesis 2 Female.....

Create a new Subfolder in your DAZ Library. Start the Script ( DAZ Studio Formats => My Library => Scripts => Victoria 4 Skins Batch Converter ). Follow these steps:

    1. Point to the subfolder you created
    2. Point to the folder where the material presets are located
    3. Convert the files

People confused about where to find the relevant pz2 files to import should note the screenshot above. It's showing Runtime>Libraries>Pose. That's where to look. It's a good idea to make a subfolder just for the character you're going to convert. Make this in the Genesis 2 Female>Characters folder. I'm converting one character at a time.

Some of the pz2 files are for injecting morphs. I don't want to convert those. I find it easy to just click on "select material files to convert" instead of "select folders and subfolders." The program shows me PNG files instead of pz2 files. This way I can look at pictures for easy indentification, and I select which materials I want. The program then finds the corresponding pz2 files to convert.

Hi.  I've never converted a v4 file to genesis before so consider me a rank beginner.  I'm scared that I'm somehow going to mess up one of the files I love using this so some reassurance from the experts on here would be nice.  I agree with the request of a pdf instruction manual.  Even that image that was posted with the 1,2,3 instructions was very helpful.  But I have a question for you.  Why would we not want to convert the file for injecting morphs?

  • Star 2.0 for G3F!!! whoot!!

    Love this character.

    That is terrifyingly realistic.

But fantastically cool. If you don't mind sharing, which characters did you combine?

The body is 100% Star 2.0

The head is a combination of Teen Josie and Toon Josie Slim (both 36%), Aiko 16%, Anime Head 100%, and scaled the head up and neck down a bit.

I used the skin from the Vanessa character.

Anime Head for Genesis 3 is a freebie morph (with a dial) that you can find on ShareCG.

    Vanessa is this one:  http://www.daz3d.com/fwsa-vanessa-hd-for-victoria-7-and-her-jewelry

    Eric

Excellent, thanks! I didn't know there was a Toon Josie...was that a typo or is there a morph for the Teen Josie character that creates a toon version?

Sorry!  I meant to type teen josie.  I don't think there is a toon josie, that was just a typo.

Yep, no worries, I kinda thought as much, though I wasn't clear on how you could combine regular Teen Josie head with slim version of her head. Do you mean you started with her regular head at 36% and then added 36% slimming or is there a separate Teen Josie head slimming morph? Regardless, you have a great eye for creating multi-character mixes. I hope you share more!

I seem to remember there being seperate slimming morphs, for the character's body and head.

  • Carrara Challenge #27: “Carrara 9, Give us a Sign” WIP Thread: Voting has started.

This is how I built my picture :

The forrest started out as http://www.daz3d.com/stoney-creek-sprucevale , wich I did some (heavy) modifications on.

When I had the shape, placement of the camera, lights and the Carrara path part in place, I saved it as a file and called it Master.

I then made a copy, deleted the forrest, and kept only the part of the ground where I was going to build the Carrara path. When this was done, I grouped everything and dropped it in the object folder in the browser.

The genie is Victoria 4. The bottle is created in the vertex modeller, and so is the Carrara sign.

For the number 9, I used a Primvol Fog from http://www.daz3d.com/advance-pack ( http://www.inagoni.com ) I created the number in the vertex modeller and used this as a shape in the Primvol Fog. The Vertex object is made invissibel in the render. The smoke from the bottle is a Primvol Rising Smoke (wich I borrowed and modified from the Doc&tuto page at inagoni.com)

There is also a creature lurking in the forrest. This is a Genesis Creature, setup in Studio and exported out as a .obj (to save memory)

When all parts where done, I opened the Master, and imported and or dragged from the object browser the differente parts. Made some adjustment in placement, and then waited for 5 hour to render it out.

  • G3F Skins render Chocolate....

First: Thank you for the time it took for your response.

    I am using DS 4.9.

ONE of the skins that is giving me choclate is: http://www.daz3d.com/fwsa-eliya-hd-for-victoria-7

Admittedly it is a skin that is a little tanned. Here is my render (it does not use the character morph included with the skin)

Are you using the default HDRI for light? As noonesuch already said, the light can make a huge difference. The skin of the model looks okay (not too dark), and according to the Readme, she was designed for 4.9.

Here are some examples. Characters are the same in all 4 renders - Michael 7 and Kimo 7 with default skin. As you can see, depending on the light type you throw at them, the skin colour looks quite different.

    Default HDRI

    Sunlight

Set 13 of OOT Male Lights

Set 11 of OOT Male Lights

Be Careful - I found a few Pro Bundles which I already have everything... must have either come with Carrara or I bought all the seperate items to add up to the bundle since the bundle wasn't listed as "Purchased".

Whoa Right! I've noticed the same thing!

Sometimes I've even bought bundles when I already owned almost everything in it, but the bundle price was low enough where the few products I didn't already have made it totally worth it! Good call, wdgjohn! Thanks for the warning!

Some - "Genesis" 73% off and "Genesis 2" 83% off 'til the end of the day at least. "Victoria 4 3D Model Pro Suite" 83% off. Note that even the individual items are marked down... some extremly low.

Pretty sure it's today only! Grab 'em now if ya need 'em!!!
