I like Iray, and like most of my results these days, but think the 3DL one looks much better; maybe needs more light, but the overall image looks more believeable.

Personally, I would use the characters as background extras as though they were low poly models even though they are V3 M3 V4 M4 G123. Skin texture such as what you see from vendor SecondCircle is amazing. I still prefer the models as background extras especially if animating them in movies. They render faster when they are smaller. My machines (PCs) are old and so the background rendered first. Then characters rendered one at a time over that with shadow catcher. They are alpha key so drop in nicely onto the backgrounds in photoshop or after effects or final cut pro during the editing process. I add a live actor who was greenscreened in the foreground. Then add an adjustment layer on top of all those other layers to even out (blend or color correct) all layers to match the the scene.

Okay, just for fun I went an pulled Total Poly's from V1-4, Aiko, and G1-3F. The Lowest Total Faces is G3F when you Set SubDivision to 0. I was supprised to find V3 and Aiko 3 were actually the Highest.

For your crowd scene, use 10 Genesis 3 Male or Female and Instnce them. Total count for a Scene with one G3F and 50 instanced G3F's 77,910 Total Faces another advantage, if you change the pose on the master, they all change their pose, works great for the Advancing hord of Orcs! Or 500 Stella Mudd's. (Personally I'll face the Orcs)

I was going to mention that using Generation 3 or 4 figures for background figures would be counterintuitive since they are actually much higher poly than subsequent versions ;). Ya beat me to it. LOL

Actually Gen 3 (ie V3, M3 etc) make very good background figures, since even though they have a lot of polys, they have lower resolution texture maps, and normally a lot less maps (just two main maps, plus maybe bump maps as well). Given that textures, rather than polys, eat up the bulk of the memory for both CPU and GPU renders, that is why Generation 3 figures make good background figures.

Edit: This is one of the reasons I would like Caymen Studios to support Generation 3 texture maps for Genesis 3, then you can have the lowest resolution maps on the lowest poly "full functionality" figures.

It might not be bugs. It's probably some sort of randomly generated for customers...perhaps there's another one coming over the sale duration and it'll go to different people? Like, if there's another base figure sale bit during the PC sale. I already own Eva 7 and I got it - so it obviously doesn't take into account previous buyers of her. Wish I could "pass it on" to someone else cos I obviously won't be taking them up on the offer.  

As a purchaser of at least five G3 Core Characters I get an offer to add a character to build my own bundle - shame I already own it; at that price I might have done it. I'm not even getting the bundle.

Having them randomly select people as thanks for completing specific conditions (with a reward offer for something they already own) is some of the most "imaginative" marketing concepts I've ever heard of. I'm sure Daz would never be that "imaginative."

Also, I already have her too AND she's already on sale today for super cheap what are they thinking.

Like Astracadia I've spent a bunch on Daz content the last year and a half or so. I don't feel bad about it though....the last time I made a huge investment was for Victoria 3 and Mike 3. It's been a long time since I bought so much and because I'm disabled and at home all day, it was money well spent :). The content and figures are better than ever before and getting great results is easier than ever too.

doesn't mention that you do but do you need a plug in either the dynamic clothing control or some other plug in to use the new product dynamic classics or any of the other products from optitex/simonwm? lots of interesting stuff and most don't say you need a plug in but I've learned on other things required products is not always mentioned. Fair while ago I bought Dynamic Lingerie Collection for Victoria 6 and Victoria 5 Supermodel, but I have never gotten it to fit any of my models does mention on the page it requires the plug in take it that's the only way these will ever fit any model? this is long before I knew could return stuff

Opitex items need the dynamic plugin; there is a free version included, but it costs to buy the fully-featured one.

Personally I use VWD now; it works on all clothes, although some require more work than others, but it does work; for Daz Studio, you need VWD and the Bridge. But I actually buy some clothes now because they have finally become useful for stuff other than a fairly limited set of poses. The amount of tweaking had me making some of my own instead.

I bought the bundle so I have both male and female and I'm having a problem with both.  The Brows 2, which create the side pointy brows shown in the main promo for Genesis 3 Female set are breaking the mesh. I tried increasing the SubD level to 3 but it didn't do any good and it didn't render out.  I thought maybe Aiko 7 was too extreme so I turned off the head morph but it did the same thing with default G3F.  I finally found the only head that works correctly is Victoria 7.  But the product says it's a merchant resource for Genesis 3 Female(s), not just V7.  Is there a problem with the product? Am I doing something wrong?

That was for a very few people who bought NINE of the previous "7" figures. That was a special case as a reward for those who've bought a lot of the 7 figures and not a lot of people qualified for that. That's vastly different than just giving a figure away to everyone the day after it's release.

The base figures, for the Studio 4 line are, Genesis, Genesis 2 and Genesis 3.  The 'flagship' characters that go with those are Michael/Victoria 5 (Genesis), Michael/Victoria 6 (Genesis 2) and Michael/Victoria 7 (Genesis 3).  There are many more than just those...several of them are 'base' characters...like Lilith (the new release...she comes in two versions...Genesis 2 and Genesis 3 (the new release).

The Genesis 3 items should already be in your account as Genesis 3 Starter Essentials...so check your store account.

As long as you just want 2D images or aniamtions (and aren't using the Anne Marie Goddard Digital Clone for Victoria 3, which has additional - probably not relevant here - restrictions) then yes.

Does anyone know if the pale girl in the maxi dress promo is actually Lilith (as in it's inncluded as one of her skin options)? Because if yes, I'm definitely in.

 

Wow.  Seems like if this image had been the main promo,  Lilith 7 would be selling like hot cakes!  Definitely seems to be the pic that aroused the most positive response other than the image of Lilth with different morphs of other base figures dialed in.

She looks like what you might expect of a creature of the night. And actual pale skin is somewhat rare here among the spray tanned cast of Victoria dolls. So she stands out, and fair skin can be pretty darn sexy.

I know its funny how many people bash Daz for the skimpy stuff, but Lilith is not really the character to go conservative on. Out of all the characters Daz makes, this is the one character that people would expect to have a fairly racy bundle!

Another one; head is Lilith 7 50% - Victoria 7 60% as shown in the promos. Only change in materials was setting the translucency weight to 0.30 from the default 0.50. Lightning from the defaut HDRi.
