  • pwToon vs Genesis 2 Male

You were spot on. It was the displacement. Putting the strength to zero cleared it right on up. Thank you very much!
So it would seem that a readme note with the product would now help save some people from tearing their PC apart thinking pwToon no longer works for them on G2 Male haha.

OKAY!! Confirmed the G2M BASE male deforms with pwToon. No others just the Base Male.

  • pwToon vs Genesis 2 Male

I just tried using pwToon on Genesis 2 male with some odd results. Specifically the fingers seen here, back top of the head, and out of the scene the toes render the same deformed way.
I have adjusted changed, flipped, restarted, everything. Yet this odd rendering happens with my Genesis 2 figure.
To add to that, Genesis 1 works just fine so it is something with this Genesis 2 that it causing the issue.
I believe pwToon needs to be updated for this figure but I am not sure. I have even tried no textures and that didn't work either.
He renders fine without pwToon applied as well.
    Any thoughts?

I get your frustration. Take a look at what pwToon is doing to my poor GenesisMale 2 on render. What in the world happened to his fingers and toes?! Haha, pwToon is sadistic and mutilating genesis figures now.
You see I have the eyes issue as well so you are not alone in this! Now, if you remove the texture and assign materials yourself, then lower the specular, they show up just fine.
I have repeated the process after restart and this missing geometry render with pwToon is constant.
He renders fine without pwToon applied so I am at a loss with this pwToon as well.
It used to work so well before I upgraded my PC. Better part = better render right? Well not with this shader haha.
Not sure whats going on but here is M6 pwTooned on my PC just now. Nothing happened...

For some reason, applying pwToon to all the ye surfaces causes the opacity to go to -100 and make it look weird. So what I do now is apply pwToon only to the iris.

No, it was just a quick example of taking a render from D/S to MS. Just a figure and some lights no shaders. If I was really working on a comic I would probably do a lot more of setup in D/S. If you have something like Manga Style (http://www.daz3d.com/manga-style-shaders) or Toon shaders (http://www.daz3d.com/pwtoon) those would well if that’s the style your after. The thing to remember is to save your render as a PNG file, which works best in MS.
A few things about Manga studio, MS is a drawing and painting program, so it doesn’t have all the tools to manipulate a render like Photo Shop or Paint Shop Pro. It’s from a Japanese developer, it really setup for Manga, so you might have to find work arounds if you’re not planning on doing Manga style comics. MS works best with a graphic tablet (I have a Wacom Bamboo Create).
Since you just got MS5 I would recommend you go though the tutorial videos at http://manga.smithmicro.com/tutorials/manga5/NewFeatures.html If you any questions about Manga studio the best place to ask is the Manga studio forum at RuntimeDNA http://forum.runtimedna.com/forumdisplay.php?330-Manga-Studio-Forum . Also check out the Jetty Jet Show http://www.youtube.com/user/JettyJetShow?feature=watch . I hope this helps.

Looks like it's outlining each bit of the transmapped mesh - I wouldn't use pwToon on lashes with a standard transparency map, if at all.

    AAAAAAERRRERRRGGGGHHH!!

    Okay, y'all do this:
Load a figure and zoom on the head using the Front View.
    Load a pwToon shader.
    Render.

Then start asking me what to do... I'll tell you to PUT A CAMERA IN IT1!

    Man...that was dumb.

New question, what's going o under the eyes?

First off, uninstalling DAZ Studio will never no matter how many times you do it, FIX a content error. Second do you have the last update of DAZ Studio lights and Shaders installed. Third are you sure pwToon is installed properly and Last only a Full 3DeLight Render will work as pwToon is a Shader for the render engine.
If none of the Above is the issue I'm at a lose. Oh yeah one more thing using more than one setting of pwToon does not work. Only the last one applied will be used on the figure.

Okay, this is what I've tried:

Istalled pwTOONforDAZStudio4 manually (DIM kills my eyes)
    Loaded G1 with my texture
    Selected Genesis in Scene tab
    Selected genesis in Surfaces tab
Tried applying pwToon, Neutral, artoon Classic, Clean Drawing (one at a time)
    Restarted, retried
Tried CTRL+click and set map settings to ignore
    Uninstalled both pwToonand DS
Installed the latest version of DS
    Installed pw toon

Nothing new. this is making me nuts.

Default DS shader seems okay, but pwToon still renders black.

    What map isn't right?

That looks as if the wrong map is being used at render time - try restarting DS, and then do a render immediately on starting. Certainly applying the current version of pwToon base shader over the male sample res textures gives the expected result on rendering.

When I render after applying a pwToon shader, everything is jyyust...dark. It doesn't matter how much light is on the figure, or if there isc any at all, it's still black.

    This is DS4.6

  • Shaders

Ensure that both the model is selected as well as a surface on that model before applying the pwToon shader and it should work. If it's still not working, ensure that pwToon is properly installed as you might be clicking on a preset intended for use with the shader. Some presets simply adjust settings on an existing pwToon shader rather than applying the shader itself (similar to Crescent's pwToon shaders which I have linked below).

The Default pwToon is pretty hard to see until you render. It will not Change the Viewport all that much.

I feel like a noob, so hi. :D

In DS4.6, I've selected stuff in both the Scene and surfaces tab, then tried loading a pwToon shader. Nada happened. Whassup with that/?

  • Why Poser? (serious question from a DAZ Studio user)

Im one of DAZStudio die hard user ;) But recently i`ve been trying POSER PRO 2014 sr 2.2 in my 64 bit laptop system to make old figure with ERC designed for poser working smoothly . One thing that surprising me .. My scene render faster even with Maximum render setting . Something that i`ve never achieved with PP2012 . You should try download the demo and see yourself .

    Here my things :
1 . DAZ Studio had so many hidden Gems like Tool UI ,AniMate puppeteer ,transfer utility or auto fit . But its hardly to find good and popular video tutorial about it .Personally i think they should had one special page in here like we found in GoFigure Animate website . Youtube channel its okay but not everyone understand about how to use youtube playlist .

    2. I believe DAZStudio offer easy way to create pose or scenes than Poser IF you intend to making from scratch , not just load preset pose and go . Puppeteer offer you advance type of Poser UI/Pose/Camera DOT . They can save and load independently for use in other scene .

    3. I believe Poser offer easy solution when you plan to create material from scratch . Shader Mixer is powerful but its for advanced user . Sadly user couldn`t get benefit of two worlds . You should choose , Do you need create material from scratch or not ?

4 . UI and Library . No one would feel OK if their daily preferences changed . These two are mainly reason why POSER user refuse to trying DAZ Studio or otherwise . DAZ Studio library actually work like windows/mac explorer . You can put your files everywhere , even those files not supposed to be in same folder . But for easy migration from Poser User , DAZ and every good content developers always making structural folder contents like we saw in Poser .Poser started using same methods in their favorite folders .

    5. AniMate and their NLA concept is awesome !!! If they upgrade/refine their UI , AniMate woud be best tool DAZStudio ever offering for us .Meantime we could refine our Animation with easy exporting in Poser . Though DAZ Studio offer FBX to exporting animation in other 3D app . But those facilities only good if you decide to render in Big Boys 3D software , not for editing keyrame etc . So if your purpose is animation , having Poser besides DAZStudio is worth it .

    6. Render Speed . I dont wanna talk about quality renders because everyone had different perspective in this area . But like i said before , PP 2014 in my experience ( and in my systems ) had faster render speed . But I`l go to DAZStudio if we need Toon Renders style .PwToon /VisualStyle/Toon SSS is awesome and easy to edit or setup .

    7. Contents . Gen4 and earlier contents mostly work in DAZ Studio but if you really depend on complex tweak tools ( ERC fix etc ) which created before DAZ Studio era , Poser is way to go . For Genesis nothing better understand him/her than DAZ Studio ;)

    8. Smart Contents is cool , but we still need better video to explain how to convert user/old contents shown up in Smart contents

So .. I think worth it or not depend on your purpose . Thanks

When did you APPLY the Shader? I do not see that step listed.
EDIT: It could be the DS Beta, Here is the Mil-SubDragon in DS4.6.1.39 with pwToon Classic applied to it. Click for Full Size.

I don't mean to be an annoyance, but all of the following has been done and I even made sure the Render Settings were set to 3Delight. I can only speculate perhaps one or more of the following:

    - 4.6.2.48 Pro Edition (64-bit) has bugs
    - pwToon is not compatible with this new beta version

Please see the screenshots below (using the default included dragon as an example):
    1) Figure selected in the Scene tab.
    http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d137/mogownscrobo/scrn1.png

    2) All surfaces selected in the Surfaces tab:
    http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d137/mogownscrobo/scrn2.png

    3) Render engine is double-checked to make sure it is 3Delight.
    http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d137/mogownscrobo/scrn4.png

    4) After clicking on the Render button, the dragon still is shown as a normal textured dragon, instead of a toon (Cartoon Classic) style rendering.
