  • Fixing DNA Avenger for Victoria 3, suggestions?

Does anybody who knows their way around poser content know if there is a simple fix I could manually make to my copy of "DNA Avenger for Victoria 3" ( http://www.daz3d.com/dna-avenger-for-victoria-3 ) to get the Bolero.cr2 and Just_Pants.cr2 to correctly fit to the figure in DAZ Studio?  See screenshot of what happens by default.

I don't actually know what I'm doing, however I have been able to implement several suggestions in the past for other products, I'm hoping somebody might be able to point me in the right direction.  Thanks!

  • ZDG random Daz Studio discoveries and questions.

Well, I will say the prop proportions appear to be much better with the Outdoor Lounge Area, then some other stuff that clearly was never intended to be used by figures, lol.

I'm having a bit of difficulty grappling with posing generation 7 to be a tad bit more natural then the contortion poses that plague my pose preset collection. That and pose 'Symmetry' appears to not completely work on generation 7 for some odd reason (it will only copy from the right side to left side and not the other way), I may have forgotten something from many pages back.

So, in any case, from left to right is FWSA Agnes, FR Agnes, DES Grace, and FWSA Grace. All sporting the allusive Leotard (Not to be confused with the Teen Josie 7 DG Leotard that dose not fit anything except Aiko3). And contrary to wat the zen desk insisted, the clothing smothers for V4, and then V5, and G2F, will NOT fix that DG leotard (only the likes of Modo, Marvelous Designer, or Z-brush, followed by rigging from scratch will fix it).  Back to more fun thoughts.

(That is a viewfield screen-cap of the bottle and same coffee settings in the cups above. The other two images with figures in them are renders.) For some odd reasion, that glass bottlee is tainting the coffee in it into a gray muck of some odd kind  , lol.   Why is the Glass doing that?

Yea, something is not right with that coffee, lol.

http://www.daz3d.com/sugar-for-a3-outfit-bundle is for Aiko 3. Theer are tools for converting from Aiko 3 to Victoria 4, and Classic shape for getting Aiko 3 items to AutoFit to Genesis 1, but it will not work on other figures without conversion.

http://www.daz3d.com/technophilia-volume-1-techno-tentacles looks to be a fairly standard Poser figure and should probably work in DS, but the mt5 files won't and the other materials will need adjustment.

    what are mt5 files for?

Poser 5 (and up I think)

They are like Shader Presets in Daz Studio - they apply material settings to a selected surface. DS doesn't know how to do that with a Poser file, so to use them at all you would have to copy the settings into an item-oriented file (mc6, or pz2 mat file) with correctly named surfaces. Whether even that would be useful would depend on whether the basic materials (diffuse/specular/bump) did enough on their own or whether the shader tree set-up, which DS skips, was vital to the look.

  • ZDG random Daz Studio discoveries and questions.

Oh boy, ugh. One of the items I got that I've yet to look at is FWSA Agnes for Lilith7, looks like today there is another Agnes. I hope they do not share the same dial and file names. Daz had started a policy of not wanting PAs putting there initials in the product name, and DES Grace and FWSA Grace became a victim of that "Faster Better Cheaper" (pick two) product name policy, lol. I sincerely hope that Agnes is not another mistake in the Daz product naming policies.

And just to ease some out there, Fred&Sabby did address the daz3d name problems between DES Grace and FWSA Grace (by ditching said PA initials in product name policy, lol).

Unfortunately, FWSA Agnes is a daz buyout, so Fred and Sabby have no say in what daz names the dials and files for her. So bugging the PA will accomplish nothing, this is all on daz if Freja was not allowed to put the PA name in the file and dial names. I do have Enya and Harley by Freja with a "FR" in the beginning of the file/dial names, so there is a chance there is not going to be any issue at all with Agnes. (I will find out shortly)

looks ok. Finding sit poses that are not absurd for just lounging around may be the difficult part, lol.

  • Ouch. These prices.

I can only assume, that these deeper and deeper discounts DAZ is offering are direct result to rising base prices. PAs increase their base prices, and DAZ gives better discounts to maximize profits, because they know what their customerbase is willing to pay. Early adopters are willing to pay more, and customers with fixed budget are not. I don't think DAZ is making more and more lucrative deals just so that PA's wouldn't make a living or because they hate their PA's and love their customers, but because they will get more money in the end that way. End result is, that early adopters pay more, and those that are willing to wait, get the items about the same price, or even cheaper. Of course PA's back catalog lose value in this kind of process, but maybe that's inflation in DAZland.

As a concept, I think it's a good idea to sell textures and models as a separate package, since that gives us customer more options. Customer can choose if they want both, or just a single product....but, when textures or base model cost about the same as same PA's normal character package ( Anna HD or Michi HD $19.95 vs http://www.daz3d.com/topmodel-texture-for-genesis-3-female-s $17.95 and http://www.daz3d.com/topmodel-hd-morphs-for-victoria-7 $15.95), then I think prices are definitely rising, and fast. Unless Raya's earlier products were grossly underpriced ( to me they look top end priced compared to rest of the DAZ shop ) or much much poorer quality than this new texture or base model, this is huge price increase from $19.95 to $35.90. PA's can try to spin that however they like, but it's a hard fact, that when we are talking about almost 80% increase in base prices, that is a significant increase.

The bundle as a whole, has not gone up so much. For example Egyptian mega bundle was $94.95 with 7 products, so $13.56 per product, while Topmodel bundle is $59.95 with 4 products ( I count textures and model as one since Egyptian bundle also had character and textures as one item) is $14.99 per product. Of course we can debate how much pose set is worth compared to character or hair set, so this was just a rough estimate.

All and all, what we are really talking about here is money. As I'm writing this, Topmodel bundle seems to be #1 in What's hot list, so I assume PA's did well, and we as customers should prepare for higher base prices. Of course DAZ don't want to lose customers to Rendo or other sites, so they will fight that with bigger marketing efforts ( read discounts ). Luckily this is just a hobby for me, so I can wait until prices come to my price range, and then PA's get some extra money from their back catalog sales, and I get their products for the price I see reasonable.

  • Macro Eyes for Iray

Returning to the issue of scleras being too bright, I've got two new presets: One matches the exposure (darkness) of V7 default scleras and the other splits the difference between mine and V7. But since we were aiming for more realism, I want to point out that part of what makes scleras appear darker in reality is the shadows near the edges of the lids which fade gradually toward the center of the eye, emphasizing the roundness of the eyes. In 3Delight we used to finesse this out with Ambient Occlusion and I just discovered this can be done in Iray by switching Render Mode to Interactive and using an AO Canvas and combining the output with the standard render in postwork. I think this produces the best results because otherwise scleras look kind of flat to me whether light or dark. But as second place, I prefer the medium preset.

So here's a scene with a Victoria 7 character staring at a sunrise coming over the dunes (lit by a HDRI). I've numbered the images in the lower right. If you're having trouble seeing the difference, try layering them in an image editor and toggling visibility):

    1. Macro Eyes with scleras as they are now.

    2. Macro Eyes with scleras medium dark.

    3. Macro Eyes with scleras matching V7 for darkness.

    4. Same render as 1 but with AO pass multiplied over the top.

To me the third one looks the best. Just, IMO. :)

Yes, I'm waiting to the 13th & I will buy the last 3 items I want & then doublecheck that I have downloaded everything. I'm pretty sure I have. 31st is the last day to download.

I wish I could spend $20 and get a bra that fit :(

Amen $20 bras fall aprat the first time ou wash them ..lol, my bras for my DD girls usually run about $50 to $80 range

Best bra I ever got was $120. My best friend and I both got one (different ones because we are built very differently), and both expected our husbands to freak out at the price tag. Instead, we both got home and got told to go buy another.

Edit: And 7 years later they're still going strong.

I use to buy $100 Victoria Secret & Maiden form bras when I was much younger. But now days. the Amour bra of playtex  & soma does me just fine and those bras run about $50 to $60 bucks a piece and fit good and last for a year or 2.  I guess the new flimsy bras would be fine for little boobies, But I need something that can hold my big-ins  in place .(blush)

These were from [intimacy], and we went there specifically for the "bigguns" as you will. It's the only store that carries her size in stock. She is *quite* large. These look nice *and* hold up. I think hers was Valkyrie or something like that. Mine was Africa Sexy (which cracked me up).

  • Monique 7

Monique 7 came a year and a half after Victoria 7, as Monique 6 did after Victoria 6. I would like for Genesis 4 to begin with Victoria, then an Asian, then an African, then a Polynesian. At that point, we would have the diversity of morphs and skins established so we could then have the usual slew of Caucasian types to continue. As an alternative to that suggestion: Perhaps the Asian, African, and Polynesian females could be released in successive months after Michael 8, as the second, third, and fourth mates of their corresponding Genesis 4 males. Either option would be far better than having to wait so long for a Daz Core representative for the different skintones and ethnic morphs.

Furthermore, this would better integrate with and facilitate the Morph3D line, since games typically are far more diverse than 3D hobbyist pin-up art.

I was about to make a post just like this. I think its bordering on offensive that the African American figures don't release until a year and a half later, after over 20 base figures came before them. And the vast majority of those base releases are white chicks. That just doesn't send a good message. Monique and Darius should have been amung the first 5 releases. You can make any excuse you want, but its not good enough.

Additionally, I really hate unique UVs. I think they are unnecessary and at worse dilute the base figure line. Base figures should use the base G3 UV, unless absolutely necessary. Look at George, how did he get created using the base UV? I know a couple of bases use the G3 UV, so its very possible. If you think it hurts sales, I highly doubt that. People buy these bases because they usually have great skin textures and the bundles can have nice items. There's no need to change how they are sold (except for the Gen prop only being in a pro bundle.) If anything, it hurts add on figure sales. I see a figure requires a base I don't have, I'm much less likely to buy it. It should seem pretty obvious, actually.

I'm not sure I'd accept that as a definitive list of types - or indeed, as clear types in themselves. Obvious lacks are Nativer American (north and south), near-eastern/middle-eastern/north-African, Central Asian, and the Indian sub-continent. All groups with little if any coverage, no doubt others could be added.

Not definitive, Richard, but Daz-defined, as you noted. One omission from the group I listed is honey-coloured skin, useful for many of the groups you named.

Either option would be far better than having to wait so long for a Daz Core representative for the different skintones and ethnic morphs.

They wouldn't be better options if they led to Genesis 4 being a commercial failure (then there might be no further releases at all). If what brings in the revenue is whitey pin-up and fantasy, that's likely what will be released first. Stuff needs to sell to make payroll and meet server bills.

If DAZ is missing a big market in diverse ethnicity, the gap will be filled by others.

    I expect a similar pattern.

Consider, if you will, that the second option I suggested would leave room for six months' worth (June through November) of Caucasian core females (plus 6 x 2 of accompanying PA Pro Bundle figures) before introducing a change. Daz Core characters are the elite textures of the Genesis lines, and this is why I am lobbying for a policy shift. The gap for ethnically diverse photorealistic skins was not really filled by others during Genesis 3 (with the notable exceptions of the illustrious Raiya and Saiyaness). We know from experience that Daz does listen to its customers. If Monique 7 and Darius 7 do not sell well, then I, too, would expect the usual pattern. Monique 7 certainly has less associated characters than her Genesis 2 namesake.

Actually it says a lot, without saying a lot that we can so casually consider that the inclusion of a  few  ethnic characters could be so  unmarketable that it can cause a company to lose money and then roll with it as "well that just the way it is; gotta' do what you gotta' do".
It's really nice to know what kind of society we really live in, and the attitude one needs to take to be profitable in it.  And you wonder why so many people balk when some group uses a hypen before "American" when they designate themselves.

There are anatomical elements for Victoria (Genesis 3 Female) 7 and Michael (Genesis 3 Male) 7, you just have to buy the Pro bundles for them.

Ah...I see G3 Anatomical Elements listed...Is that actually a skeleton and musculature, or just a set of UV templates and geografts?  I didn't see any further description.

No, it's not a  skeleton...it's the 'naughty bits'.

I think it's safe to say that the "anatomical elements" are genitals. ._.
