  • Legacy UVs? New UV for Victora 3 to Genesis 3 Female?

    ...

Thanks!  It's a very useful product.  What are the chances that this will work on Genesis 3 Males?  Or is that a whole other thing?

This product will not work for Genesis 3 Males, and I have no plans as yet to make a Legacy UVs set for Michael 3.  The Victoria 3 set is really just an afterthought, a bit of an experiment, as several people had expressed an interest.

Nah I think you're addicted, ;) just kidding lol,  i was pleasantly shocked by this release,  it went right in my cart just need to check out

  • Dynamic Hair

I haven't seen any new Dynamic Clothes for G2 or G3.

http://www.daz3d.com/dynamic-classics-for-victoria-7-genesis-3-female-s was released in October this year.

...  get the licensing fees within reach of PAs so they can afford to use the software and produce new Dynamic Clothes....and maybe, hair. :)

Fortunately the PAs don't need their own copy of the OptiTex software, most items have been joint efforts between a PA (who, as far as I know, designs the outfit and handles texturing) and the "OptiTex" vendor who handles the build and adaptation side.

Ah...Thank you for the clarification.  I did not know how the PA / Optitex partnership worked.  I had heard elsewhere that the PAs who wanted to make the clothes had to pay a high license fee for the software.  It seems I was misinformed.  My mistake about the clothes....  I did actually see them, but thought that they were a one off legacy type remake.  Everything else I've seen has always been for V4 or maybe Genesis.  I made the assumption that they had stopped production....especially since I hadn't seen anything new on the Optitex site in ages.

Glad to know that there is something happening on that end of things, and hopefully, new clothes in the works. :).

So, should we expect more new dynamic clothing and maybe, hair?  Is this a new resurgence for the tech?

  • Legacy UVs? New UV for Victora 3 to Genesis 3 Female?

The Stephanie 3 UVs are almost identical to the Victoria 3 UVs (the eyebrow region of the SkinHead surface is slightly different), and the one Steph 3 texture I have fits perfectly well.  I don't have Aiko 3, but others have said that works OK, though I cannot confirm it.

The UVs for Michael 3 seem to follow closely the outlines for the V3 UVs, and I have just tried the Michael 3 texture on G3F - result, a very hairy but convincing fit (see attachment).  There is minor seam exposure behind the left ear.

If I remember correctly, those original Victoria 3 skin textures could be used on any generation 3 figures - Michael 3, Aiko 3, etc., and those other figures skin could be used on V3.   Does that mean this new UV product will allow all those generation 3 skin textures from all the generation 3 figures (not just Victoria 3) to be used on Genesis 3 Female?  http://www.daz3d.com/legacy-uvs-for-genesis-3-special-edition-victoria-3

  • Ouch. These prices.

Yes, I was specifically talking about games. And I really have to disagree

that is a very minor market. Considering Daz spun off to create an

ENTIRE new new just for gaming content, content that is basically

optimized Genesis 2, is all the proof needed to dispute that. There is a

growing market out there ready to be taken. That Morph3D isn't setting

the world on fire has more to do with how Daz failed to promote it properly

than the concept itself. They advertised gaming on the front page for ages.

They still advertise how game ready G3 is. I would even suggest that the

biggest reason Genesis 3 has fewer polygons than ancient Victoria 4 is all

because Daz wanted to make the figure "light" on gaming engines. There

have been sales on gaming licenses for specific venders who have them."

Global gaming revenue for 2016 is expected to hit $99 billion.

    https://newzoo.com/insights/articles/global-games-market-reaches-99-6-billion-2016-mobile-generating-37/

I certainly understand why the parent company of DAZ created morph3D.
Now as far is it "not setting the world on fire" there are many factors in play not the least of which is the sheer amount of competition in the game content market.

AS much I like Genesis2  it is obvious that one will need something more compelling than the pretty, vanilla white girls that are sold to the still render majority here,
simply Optimized and "rebranded " for unity.

Not that attractive female characters are not popular in games,
    Quite the opposite.

But just take a look at the Character types & marketing campaign of the wildly successful "Overwatch" game from Blizzard and you will see what  gamers like.

On the matter G3.... Yeah the face bone rig and the additional twist bones
in each limb only succeeded in causing addtional  gruntwork for the Daz PA's, the  non gaming  still render crowd and animators like Ivy & Myself  over here.

And to the often regurgitated claim that "G3 is better suited for export
    to other programs"
    well sorry but... bolluckscheeky

Just watch any video tutorial and look at the labor involved in getting G3 into MAYA or Motionbuilder compared to G2 and you will see this  assertion is just not founded in reality.
And now people are openly wishing for more actual mesh based facial morphs as the mighty face bone rig failed to live up to the hype for day to day still rendering.

All that Said  Ivan is the realistic Male figure Daz has ever offered
I only wish he was easier to animate.

  • Avoiding creating token characters

I say this in a positive light.  I am not trying to chew anyone out or shoot someone down.  But I dont see why people complain that they dont have this character type or that character type when genesis characters can mix morphs to your hearts content.  Grab some morphs and skins and mix away.  DraagonStorm has a great script here for mixing skins too - http://www.daz3d.com/skin-blender - Zev0 has aging morphs for all ages plus wrinkles for old folk.  Its not a two click solution but as you learn to mix and pick up more characters later on you simply add to the pool of what you have for greater diversity.  In short, learn to roll your own!!!!!!!!!  Trust me, its worth it.

Good skin for Indian girls - http://www.daz3d.com/gallery/images/241861/ - it also mixes very well in Skin blender to make a "latino" skin.  THe skin for Cathy HD is based on a latino - http://www.daz3d.com/gallery/images/253071/ - Also, not that I have done a render with her skin yet but Chandra's skin is gorgeous - http://www.daz3d.com/p3d-chandra-hd-for-victoria-7

Thanks.  Skin blender just went in my basket.  Didn't even know this product existed.

Victoria 1 (if you have it) is no more different from V2 than Victoria 4.2 (base) is from the "version" of her with the Morphs++ pack added in.  The distinction's barely worth mentioning.

I think Daz has a lot of potential to really expand this 3D prop market it has. The next phase is it needs to simplify the licenses a lot. I believe licenses should be included with the product. Right now the license thing is not so clear. Some PAs have their own, but some do not. I know some PAs might shoot me by suggesting that, however, I think a compromise could be made. Eliminate individual PA licenses, but in exchange raise the PA stake from 50% to 60~70%. I really believe this is a big hurdle, if Daz is serious about their stuff for use in 3d game engines, they need to simplify the licensing big time. Morph3D does this, but Morph3D is not good enough. Kill Morph3D and merge it into the Daz Store. If making this happen is a problem for current current, then make sure to do it for future content...Genesis 4. And raising the PA stake makes them happier and more likely to keep making content. Raising the stake also makes it easier to make those riskier product ideas that people are debating here.

The license is the same, unless relaxed for a Merchant resource, for all content sold through the daz store (except for the Anne Marie Goddard Digital Clone). If you mean Game Developer Licenses, I think very few of us would be happy to find we were paying for those as well as a license to use 2D renders - and given the logistics game development has to be a minor part of the market.

I'm probably in the minority, but lately I look if the vendor has a game license. If not, then I'm less likely to purchase whatever they sell. It's not that I'll use it in a game. But I like having the option. I think that same idea rings true for most things I buy. Does it have potential future use?

This is a major factor for us too; we use a lot of DAZ3D and Poser models as a starting point for our concept art, which usually ends up diverging a long way from the base models; but sometimes we will come across a model that's so visually striking and in tune with our requirements that it would be simpler to just use it as-is, at which point the vendor having a game license option available or not will play a deciding role in our choice to purchase their model/s or not.

Now see, instead of having a separate store like Morph3D, or searching this store for the specific ones covered, wouldn't it be awesome if the new content had those licenses built in?

Kill Morph3d, kill separate game licenses, give the venders at least 60-40 split instead of 50-50, and reap the rewards of a growing market that will send Daz forward for the next decade. This is where the market is going to be in the next few years, animation and gaming. If you ignore it, somebody else will come along and take it for themselves. Right now we are still in the wild west of sorts in this market. It is not defined. It is there for the taking. If Genesis 4 doesn't greatly enhance its gaming capabilities and licenses over G3, it will not be as successful as could be. It could even fall flat, because people aren't going to just stop using G3 or even G2 or V/M4. G4 has to be a huge leap.

And if they do and G4 falls flat because no vendors want to make content for it due to the game licensing, what then?

And if those gaming oriented improvements come at the price of say, less flexibility in texture quality, facial expressions or body shape (not saying that they have to, just using them as an example), then G4 would lose the 2D image market. Important as the gaming market is/will become, it doesn't mean other uses will go away, and trying to facilitate every conceivable type of use in one model is a sure way to please nobody instead of everybody.

While you are at it, Saph, perhaps we could clarify things a bit more. I don't know whether the original Victoria, sometimes referred to as Victoria 1, is included as a Generation 2 figure or not. Often V1/V2 are lumped together as the latter was merely an updated version of Victoria. But I can think of no reason why Victoria 2 would be permitted and Victoria not, so perhaps that can be clarified as well?

  • The girl on the Daz homepage

There's an iray skin for Belle 6??? Can you tell me what it is please? I so need that.

...the creator used the PD Iray Shader Kit 1 so yes, not a 3DL skin. There is also an Iray skin map for Belle 6 that was released after the figure (I have it myself).

    Might be this

    http://www.daz3d.com/amazing-skins-for-belle-6-and-brodie-6-bundle

Nope. They are only for 3Dlight and not for IRay.

Here is the one for IRay "IG Iray Essentials - Victoria 6 & Michael 6" Read the ReadMe section it claims to have those files:

    http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/read_me/index/21926/start

Not sure if that was being referred here. Also a quick Google search brought out two more results:

The opensource iray shaders for Belle 6 at Github: https://github.com/Astuceman/Daz-Iray-Shaders/tree/master/Shaders

    and

The "IG Iray Essentials for V6 and M6" is specifically for those two figures. The store page only lists V6 and M6 and being required, it wouldn't make sense for it to work on Belle 6 and not actually require Belle 6. If you look at the readme, it states "V6 Belle." It actually has V6 as part of her name, so this must be a character related to V6, not Belle 6. There is also "V6 Anna." V6 Anna is lighter skinned than V6 Belle, and that doesn't make any sense if this is supposed to be Belle 6, who had some of the fairest skin of the whole G2 line. I think these are just different preset names that the vender came up with. They probably could have used better names to avoid confusion.

The github link utterly confounds me. What am I looking at??? I click on the Belle 6 link and I get a text file. Am I supposed to copy this and save it as a duf file, or what?

At any rate, Iray Smart Shaders for Genesis 2 solves the need for any specific Iray set for Belle. With all due respect to IG, ISC kind of supersedes Iray Essentials. And it has the bonus of working on the entire Genesis 2 line, male and female. NGS Anagenesis can work, too, though for Belle's skin, I prefer Iray Smart Shader. Maybe just tone down the gloss if using bright light.

  • Genesis 2 vs Genesis 3

Thanks nonesuch00, The only bit that confusses me is the add-on products. What do you mean by this?

Oh, I started not to mention them at all because there are so many and even after buying them they can be confusing to use.

I will try to simply for you so you can save money and not buy all the products I did figuring this out:

OK, having spent a pretty penny at the DAZ Store this year, here is a lesson in DAZ Economics:

    a. Join Platinum Club until your library is built to your satisfaction.

    b. Maximize usefulness of all the Genesis 3 products you buy between male & female:

         2) https://www.daz3d.com/genesis-3-uv-swap-male-and-female-base

                ii) http://www.daz3d.com/fit-control-for-genesis-3-female-s

    d) Then you will probably want for the occasion child or elderly person in you renders, animations

          1)  http://www.daz3d.com/growing-up-for-genesis-3-bundle (although in my opinion you can get child shapes without this product)

          2)  http://www.daz3d.com/aging-morphs-3-for-genesis-3-bundle

    e) Optional if you find that you are satisfied with the available Genesis 3 texture sets you can buy for G3M & G3F, many people aren't.

These products are only for using old V4 & M4 textures on Genesis 3 characters. Not they are usually a lesser resolution than new Genesis 3 texture sets.
