No mention of Michael 9 being required, but on the shapes product page, Michael 9 is listed as a required:
https://www.daz3d.com/michael-9-hd-feminine-shape-add-on
Same kind of problem on the Vick for Victoria 9 HD bundle page (no mention of Victoria 9 being required) when on Vick's shapes product page, Victoria 9 is required (and as per some test done by someone who bought it, Victoria 9's body and head morphs are dialed in when using Vick's morphs):
will pass these on, thank you
Michelle for Michael 9, the new musketeerThe bundle doesn't mention Michael 9, but the shapes product page mentions it as a requirement, so I suppose there is mistake on the bundle page.
Edit: same mistake on Vick for Victoria 9: no mention of Victoria 9 being required when it is very much required: someone ( @columbine if my memory is not failling me) did some tests and when Vick's shape was used, Victoria 9 morphs were dialed in. I edited my last message on the reporting thread to report both problems.
How To Achieve Genesis 9 Skin on Genesis 8 or 8.1 FigurePretty much all Iray shaders are PBR by design.
Many Genesis 9 characters use a 8k normal map that come from the starter essentials. This texture is a big part of the look these characters have. If you can convert this to Genesis 8/8.1 then you can create similar skins. There may be some textures in the 8/8.1 line that produce similar results. There is nothing stopping anyone from producing such a texture. But it takes more than that, it takes coming up with a material setup that works. One thing you can try is just mimic the material settings of whatever you favorite 9 character is on a G8 that has some similar looking textures, then tweaking them the settings hone it in.
I have converted the 8k normal maps I speak of to G8. I sometimes also use the G9 eye textures on G8. That can be done since the 8.1 eye UV is similar. So the eyes are pretty straight forward. Here I just made a test setup. I took Victoria 8, with no HD morphs, and replaced her skin base color with Zelara 8. I used a totally different light skinned character's skin textures for the translucency maps. I blended some of Zelara's face texture in this other texture. I took some specularity maps from a bluejaunte character in the dual lobe specularity settings. I used no bump map in this one, but one could. I used the 8k normal detail maps I converted. I used the 8.1 tear prop and 8.1 eyelash prop. But the model is Genesis 8. I did that...simply because I could. For me, it is easier than trying to convert everything I have to a different Genesis. Rather, I can use the few things from newer Genesis that I care for. This is also using the regular old Iray Uber, NOT the PBR Skin shader. You can use either one. I chose not to here as demonstration. PBR Skin can be useful if you wish to use both a regular normal map like perhaps the ones Zelara has, along with the detail 8k normal maps for the skin micro details. But you cannot use the exact same settings with PBR Skin, they are different. Actually, what drives me nuts about most PBR Skin setups is that the edges of skin look way darker than they should. It is very unnatural.
This pic is not perfect, and it was a rush job to serve as proof of concept. I converted these things some time ago, and use them in other character models. But here, I just through them onto Victoria.
Under the right lighting, I think they can look better than most of the G9 models we've seen so far. However this lighting was a quick preset.

If you cannot convert the G9 normals, you can try using one of the later bluejaunte G8 character textures as substitutes. The specularity maps on these are produced in 8k quality, and do a good job of creating the skin micro detail. With the right setup you might not even need the 8k normal maps to accomplish it.
No one single setup will work for all characters. You'll have to play around with it. But you can get close.
Michelle for Michael 9, the new musketeerAfter Vick for Victoria, Michelle for Michael 9:

The bundle: https://www.daz3d.com/michelle-for-michael-9-bundle
The shapes and the feminine textures: https://www.daz3d.com/michael-9-hd-feminine-shape-add-on
I like the hairs with the hat and the victorian outfit. The musketeer outfit would be great without the missing half leg (and really great with an option for a flat footed boot, but it should not be too hard to replace the boots with other options in my library), but still look good overall.

All Iray materials will generally be PBR - Genesis 9 and 8.1 usually use the Daz PBR Skin shader, a shader intended specifically for skin. Genesis 8.1 does not have the 8K detail maps, instead using more generic detail maps which tile across the surface.
So If I understand correctly, Genesis 8.1 characters, don't have PBR by Default? Is there any way we can achieve this on Genesis 8 character?
Core figures (Michael and Victoria 8.1, etc.) have PBRSkin materials, PA characters may or may not have them.
The older generation: Victoria 2/3, Michael 2/3 and their children rendersHere is Victoria 3 with a Dreampaint character. This is Cho's Belva texture on the Morphing Fantasy Dress. The rest of her outfit are freebies. Her veil is a Scarf earring by Jancory. All done in iRay. I did convert the dress to weight mapped to fit the dress to Victoria's Dreampaint character.
That is alot of work Wendy. I admire your tenacity and patient. Oh my Redfern. He really looks cool. Richard, maybe, Baby started as Victoria 3. I am always amazed at the abilities of our freebie artists.

You can go to the Poser DAZ freebie site for the location of some of the freebies: Belva - Poser and Daz Studio Free Resources Wiki (miraheze.org)
Can someone figure this out for me?Hey Guys thanks for all the helpful information, I was not aware of poser having GENERATION 2 characters, as I only use DAZ, and just assumed it was GENESIS2, my bad :( as for fitting it to a GENESIS 1 character, I have tried but the suit still has the same results as in the picture, even if I fit it to a VICTORIA 4.2 it has the same results. just I will keep trying, or get a refund, The MIDNIGHT STORIES suit, is amazing, however too large and bulky for my needs, plus too expensive to get male and female versions at the moment.
Genesis suddenly stopped loading or loads invisibleI have no idea why but my Genesis 1 figure has stopped behaving. i was editing some of the morphs that had decided they were default loads when they're not (like Victoria 5) when suddenly the figure would load invisible. The edits I made were only removing the controllers so they wouldn't load automatically. No morphing itself was done.
Then G would only load as blocks.
I reinstalled using the install manager and it's back to being invisible again.
I still use G for a lot of important stuff.... is there no way to get it back?
searching for a specific kind of hair (pigtails/twintails with bangs)Here are a few others that might work:
You can also kitbash, and take the pony tails from one set and the bangs from another and shade them identically. There are other pigtail hairs in the store, but they don't always have the bangs you want, so this might be an option.

While I appreciate the attempt at realisim with this US Civil War uniform, I cannot figure out why in the promo images the human figure and the shirt seem to have the shape of female breasts.
Because all of the promos with the grey figure, or with the clothing in plain grey are clearly showing base shapes, or morphs from the base shape.
Even if the intention that an outfit is intended to specifically fit a specific final shape (we've seen a lot of clothing marketed as "For Victoria 7" or the like over the years), the way that morph following tech works means that by default clothes take the Genesis base's shape and are then morphed to fit. If a vendor shaped the clothing specifically for a male G9 shape, it *would not work* because that's not G9's standard shape.

And yet another toonish girl with unreal expressions. We're now coming up on a year and a half of Genesis 9 and not only is the lineup continuing to lack any real standout figure since the V9 intro in October 2022, but they're still struggling to make the skins and expressions look believably human. Meanwhile the bundles continue to be watered down by splitting existing elements apart into smaller packages. Remember when a new base figure came WITH a set of poses as part of the base figure pack? It was bad enough when Gen 9 split the characters makeup into a seperate "product".. a policy that fortunately no PA has followed... but now we're getting the shape options, which have been limited time incentive freebies prior to this, split up to count as three whole individual products? PASS.
This is what I think at almost any new G9 release. There's only one G9 skin (Victoria 9), which gets recycled over and over again, but in a bad way. You can see this for example on the soles of almost any G9 original figure (and some PA products). I hope they create more really different skins in the future. That may be the normal maps, rather than the textures.
Rubber lip expressions might be cool on tik tok but I won't buy them ;-)

Concrete ShadersContacting DAZ ArtistsThanks for the quick responses. I was hoping I might be able to contact Lourdes, creator of the Shadow Dancer outfits for A3, D3, H3, M3, and V4 (Full Disclosure™: I'm a stubborn old grognard who has been riding the DAZ Studio and Poser trains since 2007). I discovered that there was a Shadow Dancer outfit for V3, but that one appears to have evaporated from the store, though all the others are still available (I purchased them just yesterday).
I would like to get my hands on that Victoria 3 set if it is at all possible, and I figured that approaching the original content creator was as good a place as any to start.
Diomede's Notepad, Sketchpad, and Chilling PadI am going through the Intermediate level videos of Jay's MasterClass on the Daz Help menu. (Have to be Daz+ yet? Not sure). More shout outs to @Dartanbeck. (a) Jay highlights nice tip by Dart on disabling lights visibility in the draw settings pane for the viewport. (b) Jay visits Dart's website as part of the history of Victoria, Michael, Poser, Daz Studio, etc.

I want to be able to create my own recurring characters, like Dart has his Rosie. Daz Studio is one option for rigging figures, not just rendering them. Blender is another good option, but I have a lot of Studio-compatible content now.
I now have a few competing projects in my head. (1) Brash Lonergan and Moxie Espinosa in a scifi serial loosely in the tradition of Crash Corrigan, Flash Gordon, Rocky Jones, Buck Rogers, etc, etc, etc, with a healthy dose of 'Support Your Local Sheriff' and Rockford Files thrown in. (2) Comedy shorts with a recurring 'clown' character I have in mind loosely based on the silent comedies of Charlie Chaplin, Harold Lloyd, Buster Keaton, with later interpretations by the likes of Lucille Ball, Benny Hill, Rowan Atkinson. And Jackie Chan! I don't mean an actual clown, I just mean the person around whom the comedy sketches revolve. (3) Adventure stories set in the late 19th century and early 20th century - the dawn of the telephone, bicycles, early automobiles, etc.
I am giving myself one combined subscription period to gather tools. So New Year's resolution? Do lots of tutorials for Daz Studio, Blender, ZBush, Marvelous Designer, Substance Painter, etc. Create the basic sets, major props, characters, and costumes that will give my look for (1), (2), and (3) the way Dart has his Rosie and his universe. And during the learning period, offer some my tests that rise to the level of acceptable to the community as freebies.
Trying to balance watching tutorials and practicing the lessons of the tutorials.
