  • Has Daz3d 4.9.3.166 made changes to geo grafted fit-to process or anchoring?

Genesis 2 Female and Victoria 6.

I am using a third party hip based geo-graphed item, and it now suffers jagged edge geometry folds when the legs are bent forward past -30.00.

I issue does not appear in Daz3d 4.8.x using the same runtime library.

Did 4.9.3.166 change something in the fit-to process when attaching/anchoring geo-graphed items?

  • Squeezing 20 G3F figures into 4GB of VRAM using Caymen Studio's latest product

The image below is a proof of concept project to see how many G3F characters I could get into a scene and still render with my 4GB GPU. Normally just 2-3 Genesis 3 characters need 2-3 GB of VRAM just for themselves, due to the high resolution textures they are all supplied with, however using this product http://www.daz3d.com/legacy-uvs-for-genesis-3-special-edition-victoria-3 it was possible to load up a lot more figures by taking advantage of the lower number of maps, and lower resolution of Generation 3 skins. Some notes on the image.

    1) All 20 figures are G3F, including the male figures.
    2) All figures are separate G3F meshes, no instancing was used. All except the front one (the photographer) were set to base resolution.
    3) All characters have separate skin textures, none are shared between multiple figures. Likewise no procedural or the like skins are used, all are Generation 3 skins.
    4) I needed 3.2GB of VRAM to render, however the 20 fully textured, (but unclothed and without hair) figures needed just 1.8GB of VRAM to render.
    5) DAZ Studio used 8GB of RAM to load the scene, which rose to 14GB during rendering. The RAM needed would have been significantly reduced if I had converted the characters into props after posing them.
    6) The render took 20 mins on my GTX 970.

My feeling is using Generation 3 skins is acceptable, quality wise, for figures in the medium ground (which I define as being no more than half the height of the image, but at least a quarter of the height). I find low resolution figures like Lorenzo and Loretta to be okay for far background figures, but look pretty bad for medium ground figures like those pictured here. Where the whole image is taken by one figure, naturally it is preferable to use high resolution skins like those on Genesis 3.

Naturally you could achieve the same thing as in this photo by downsizing the Genesis 3 native skins, and removing some of the specular, bump etc maps they use, but I found this solution to be easier, and I did not need to create new versions of any textures. Note that a generation 3 skin needs just 2 large diffuse maps (one for the head, and one for the rest of the body), whilst Genesis 3 skins have 4 large diffuse maps (head, torso, legs and arms).

  • What do I need to create expressions for Genesis 1 male?

As far as I recall expressions were included - not necessarily compound expressions (happy, afraid, sad, and such) but the basic mouth/eye shaping morphs. That's been true of all Daz figures going back, if not to Victroia and Michael then certainly to Victoria 4 and Michael 4 and possible the threes.

  • Question - Poses, do you want specific shape presets or do you like to tweak?

Hi rixstudio. I have Zev0's and Draagonstorm's pose converter. It's what I have used to convert G2 poses to G3 (and reversed). It works pretty good, except that there are still tweaks that need to be made as the poses don't convert exactly - but it's better than nothing. It's late here at the moment, but I promise when I get up later this morning, I'll break mine out and see what I can do about helping you. You can send me a site message here with the particulars of your problem (like what exactly are you doing and what are the results you are getting) so that I'll have some idea of where to start in order to help you. I know that when I have used it, it would save the poses to a weird location, despite where I told it to put the newly converted files. You might be experiencing something similar.

@ SimonJM - it's for this reason why I include hand poses separate in my pose and prop sets. I know people like to kit bash and perhaps want to use a prop with a pose of their own. Daz now requires us to load props with hand poses already applied, which gets you the situation you are in. I don't think you'll find a pose set that has a full body pose minus hands, because hands are an integral part of any pose, prop or no prop. You might consider applying the desired pose before you add the prop rather than the other way around as a matter of course. Or what you can do is load the prop onto your model, and then save out the hand pose for you to use whever you need to fix the hand after another pose has been applied. (Click on "Save As"/"Pose Preset"; navigate to where you want to locate your hand pose and click "OK"; on the next pop up screen, go to the pull down menu on the right hand side of the screen and click on "check only" then "check rotations only"; then expand the hierarchy in the screen and untick all the checked boxes down to the right or left hand. You'll want to uncheck the hand bones as well, because if you don't you'll be saving information that will overwrite any hand bone information in the pose you want to apply, which you don't really want. Trust me. (Caveat - you might want to include the pose control information for the hand in question, as a lot of prop makers who include poses for their props tend to use the pose controls for the hands and fingers for expediancy's sake, and if you don't include this information when you save out your new hand pose, you'll get frustrated in the end.) Save the pose by clicking the "Accept" button at the bottom of the screen. Then next time you use that prop that loads with the hand pose, when you apply a new pose on top of it, you don't have to delete the prop and start over. All you have to do is apply your new hand pose and all will be right with the world. wink

Thanks so much for your kind offer. I'm not having any trouble with the pose converter, though. I own it and have had reasonable success. What I was suggesting was a script that could tweak a pose designed for G3F base, so that it would be optimised for say Victoria 7 or Girl 7 etc. :)

  • Thank you DAZ for not correcting the duplicate formulas issue....

This is not a DS bug, this is a bug in a particular piece of content (probably not from Daz either, most problem morphs are freebies, unless you are using very old copies of the Genesis morph packs in which case you should get updates from your account/Daz Install Manager) - reinstalling DS, or morphs that aren't the source of the issue, will do nothing. The on for all figures issue is that you saved a morph with a non-zero default value.

To fix the always on morph, load the base Genesis and look in the Currently Used group in the Parameters pane - there will probably be only one morph listed there, I don't think base Genesis loads with anything on normally, but in any event it should be fairly clear which shape is the culprit (if you set it to 0 the shape will go away). Once you know which morph (or morphs) are at fault, click the gear icon on the slider and open Parameter Settings, then set the default and current values to 0. Finally use File>Save as>Support Assets>Morph Asset to save the morphs in question.

Thanks a lot for your answer. Definetely it is a bug and is from DAZ. All my content is updated and installed by DIM. It's a new computer I have since last november, so I don't have any old version of anything. The thing is that on previous versions of DAZ I could "save as character" without a problem and with 4.9 it's not possible, because "assets were not saved". And with this new bug, caused because DAZ never corrected properly (the only thing they did is the process you kindly said, instead of doing by default in the new versions) the duplicate formulas in the morphs they designed, I entered this new Save support asset which lead to all this problem. The morphs that provoked this, are the genesis evolution body and head and genesis ethnicity, ALL DEVELOPED BY DAZ, the ones that were included in the pro bundle. I found the specific morphs (jaw size and round face) that were not in zero, saved assests again, and these morphs are fixed now and not preloaded. But, new problems started. I did the "save assests" with a victoria 5 and basic female, because that were the ones including those default morphs, and the result is that all the male figures now have victoria 5 and basic female by default, and what is awful is that the victoria 5 and basic female still had michale 5 morphed by default. Then I tried putting ALL MORPHS TO ZERO, and save assets again, (it said default genesis was saved) and nothing changed. Now every single genesis character, created in a new scene and loaded from an old file has victoria 5, michel 5 and basic female as default morphs. I attach a pic with the "abominations" that now are always loaded. Thanks for your help!

  • Question about modeling sizing standards

Okay, so then, if I put Victoria 7 in car roland, and she doesn't fit and Michael 7's head is going through the roof. Am I to assume that the car is not correctly sized or Victoria 7 and Michael 7 are disproportionately large.

Also, if you look at the car seat, Vicky is resting on top.....no seat squish, no body squish.  That's not realistic, nor does it look like the seat is adjustable (real cars, many seats have a raise/lower as well as a front/back/tilt set of adjustments.

Vicky 7 is TALL.  But without measuring Car Roland, I couldn't be certain if it's realisticaly sized.

And I understand the issue.....I'm 6'4" tall IRL, and a lot of cars, I simply can't fit in.....my head is banging against the roof.  Especially if there is a sunroof.  I sat in a Ferrari 328i once.  My chin was  was level with the top of the windshield.  sad

In this particular case, I'd put a DFormer on the car seat bottom, squish it down a bit, and lower Vicky a bit.....her hand (in that pose) is supposed to be on the steering wheel.  It's several inches above it.  She's riding WAY too high, and the car seat needs to be lowered and/or the seat squished by her (lovely if virtual) posterior.

  • Thank you DAZ for not correcting the duplicate formulas issue....

    Hello,

I'm so pissed of with daz. There's been a bug since 4.5, the one that says "duplicate formulas" with the genesis one figures, when you load a character with some specific morphs. I've been used to it, and only clicked ok, ok....but today, the first time in a new lap with the new 4.9 instead of correcting this annoying bug, you made it worse. I'm working on a new computer, so I tried to save one of those morphed figures (a char of a graphic novel I've been working for 5 years) with "save as character" and now in this version had a new bug and it said something like "you can't save a character that has not support asests saved.....". Then I saved support assets thinking (STUPIDLY) it was going to solve the problem, and the result: ALL THE FEMALE FIGURES, EVERYTHING FROM GENESIS FEMALE, VICTORIA 5, STEPHANIE 5, ETC... HAVE THOSE MORPHS BY DEFAULT!!! I reinstalled genesis essentials and genesis female base with DIM  and without any result. Is there a quick way to do it? Or I have to delete daz, download it again and reinstall it?

I know you daz developers are only concerned about your genesis 3 because there's the money, and you maybe don't care too much about people who use outdated figures (even we spent A LOT of money before). I can understand if you don't want to correct past issues with outdated products, but at least, please DON'T MAKE THEM WORSE THAN EVER.

    THANKS.

  • Question - Poses, do you want specific shape presets or do you like to tweak?

Actually expression poses aren't that difficult and in a lot of my sets I include expression preset poses. I just recently learned how to make expression morph dials so that you can add as much or as little of an expression as your scene requires. I plan on doing more of these in the future.

Regarding poses that say they're for Genesis 3 Female/Genesis 3 Male/or any of the other Genesis iterations - the truth of the matter is that poses built for the Genesis 3 Female base were designed to work perfectly with the base shape. If you apply another shape, depending on that shape, the pose will be altered, and not necessarily in a good way. That's where the tweaking comes in.

In general, poses that are made for the female base will also work with Victoria 7. You might need to raise her feet out of the ground plane only. But if you were to use that same base pose on say Tween Julie 7, Monique 7, the Girl 7, or Star 2.0, you will get vastly different results. Some will work, but some will not, particularly if the pose is part of a vignette (a pose that involves two or more characters that interact).

And now that you've spoken up, I have to wonder how many other new users are under the same misunderstanding about this and they buy a pose set thinking it will work with all the shapes of a base model, but will be disappointed to find out that this is not the case. It's not unreasonable to assume that a pose will fit across the board because clothing and hair models do. So I can see where the confusion comes in. But the bone positions move from shape to shape, and poses are based on bone locations, not on the mesh, like a clothing model or a hair model.

See this is why I think it would be beneficial to include poses that were shape specific so that a customer can use the poses on any of the included shapes without having to tweak the base pose. However, that does require making additional presets, which is more time, which would translate into a higher priced product, which might potentially deter customers from purchasing my product. Ugh...product production is so much more complicated than people know. Lol.

But I'm willing to do what it takes to make my customers happy.

Just out of curiosity, do you have any particular favorite Genesis 3 (male or female) shapes that you would like to see poses for? I'm compiling a list of which shapes to focus on. (There are so many to choose from at this point that the list is overwhelming, so customer input is important.)

  • Question - Poses, do you want specific shape presets or do you like to tweak?

    Hey all!

As a pose creator, I'm constantly looking for new sets to build and a question has arisen that I thought I'd come in here and ask of you, the New User.

When looking at a pose set, do you want poses that are designed for specific body shapes (ie: Victoria 7, Aiko 6, George, etc) or do you like to fiddle with the base poses to get them to work with whatever character shape you've got in your scene?

I know seasoned users like to tweak a base pose to fit, but at the same time I know many users despise posing and I can't help but wonder if maybe people would use more of the different shapes if poses were available for those specific shapes? I know that there are some sets that cater to specific shapes, particularly those that surround a new shape's release. But what about in general? Would you like to see more shapes supported in pose sets, or would you prefer to tweak a set to fit your needs?

There is no wrong answer here. I'm just trying to research a path that I'm considering for a new set that I'm working on, to see which would be of the most value to my customers. So, if you'd be so kind, would you let me know your preferences in this regard?

    Thanks!

Funny you should mention this... I just returned from the future and it's really stupid.

I don't want to give anything away, but let's just say don't be mean to cats and buy several panini presses and invest heavily in parachute pants if you can... You'll understand by next year.

You'll thank me for this later.

DAZ on the other hand will continue as usual for the next few years, eventually getting a bit more into game models and 3D printed figures... By the time Genesis 12 comes out they will have gone from (3D printed) desktop action figures to fully articulated, life sized... Umm... "Companion" figures and eventually fully sentient companion robots... But by then DAZ3D as we know it will no longer exist, having become DAZ-A-Dyne4D after their merger with RoboDyne Cybenetics and Neurological Augmentations.

Oh I forgot... For a brief period, Pringles potato chips will be an hot form of alternate currency...

By Genesis 16 (three months after G12), a small group Victoriabots (V94s)-(Victoria numbers got a bit muddled after 62) decided humans were not peverted enough (turns out that robots are actually remarkably kinky, contrary to their portrayal in most science fiction) and decide to eliminate the humans. Being that almost all of the 197,000 humans still living on earth have either a V94 or M94 model it gets pretty ugly fast and the humans take a real beating until DAZ-A-Dyne4D (aka DAZAD4D) which is actually a sentient mainframe feels pity and remorse, for having been responsible for this situation (and as a few historians have pointed out, fearing a loss of its robo-thong market) decides to help humanity. A huge battle ensues and... To be honest I'm not sure what happened because I just skipped all that and fast forwarded a couple thousand years and the world was ruled by a race of giant green ferrets dressed in Victorian theater garb... I felt a little out of place, not having a nice top hat or being a green ferret, so I got bored and came back to the present.

To be honest, it's not all that better here, now... But at least I can still afford Pringles and chocolate is still available to the common folk.

I hope that helps... I'd also like to point out that the future is prone to change and nothing is written in stone... Except for stone tablets and tombstones and stuff like that... Anything we do here and now could affect that future... Hell, I just stomped on a pile of butterflies because they were bugging me, so who really knows what the future holds?

Let us know when the book comes out - or is coming out, assuming you wrote it already sometime in the future. Will we be around to read it? Can you send a copy back?

  • Multiple issues with Overknee boots for G2

Thing is when you strart the auto fit, before defining what model they're from or what kind of item are, they "wrinkle up" around the feet properly. Which is to say they look really smooshed (exactly the way they look on a flat-footed G2F before applying the boot pose). But they ARE fitting the feet correctly so that the pose that comes with them would straighten everythig out. Its only after you define those parameters that things go crazy. I've tried various combinations and the closest fit is still claiming they are are for Victoria 4, but that offsets them laterally to the point of unusability.

Is there a way to ping dx30 to let them know this is happening?

Genesis 4 /victoria 8 ? Hey, you know the super good thing about G4/V7? It is this: you'll get all the G3/V7 (and previous) for SUPER CHEAP!!! Just the last 3 month, we had for G2 chars (without glitch, I insist, it was regular sales) pro bundles for 8USD, themed bundles for 2USD, free things, super sales on items, even if they where less than 1 year old etc... For this reason (only), I'd like to see G4 ASAP cheeky

And for the record, looking behind what's already out for G3, I think that most things are covered. SO, in a business point of view (from Daz3D), I'd be the righ time to update (= new gen)

  • FWA-Style Textures

Something I've been meaning to inquire about is, especially with the Merchant Resources from Fred Winkler Art is, how do you get that clean, smooth look on textures like the ones you see on most of his characters? For example, there's the FWSA Skinvent Details Merchant Resource for Genesis 3 Female(s) product which is very detailed with freckles, blotches, and blemishes, then there's characters like FW Frankie HD for Victoria 7 which is very fine, clear, and flawless, while still keeping a realistically superior quality about it.
Obviously, Photoshop is a powerful tool, but what would be a good way to simulate that without compromising the look?

LMAO once again Genesis 4 is not coming this year, Daz Does not work that fast I promise you

Why do people keep spreading this false information? "Does not work that fast"? Based on what evidence? Because the evidence and data points to the oposite:

    Victoria 5 -    Release Date: 2011-10-25
Victoria 6-     Release Date: 2013-06-20 (less than 2 years after V5 release)
Victoria 7-     Release Date: 2015-06-23 (almost exactly 2 years after V6 release)

If their figure release dates continue with the same time frame as it has in the past, Victoria 8 WILL come out this year.

You mean Genesis 4 Victoria 7 is Genesis 3 if im remembering correctly

I'm not sure what you're talking about - your sentance isn't very clear. Victoria 5 is Genesis 1, Victoria 6 is Genesis 2, Victoria 7 is Genesis 3. So Victoria 8 will be Genesis 4. We will likely get Victoria 8 (Genesis 4) released in June of this year (if the past releases are an indication of future release dates).

So saying that "Genesis 4 is not coming this year" is likely inacurate and saying that "Daz Does not work that fast" is inacurate - given past release dates of the new figure lines.

There is also the now lost statement, made on the old forums (the ones before the last software) that with the Genesis platform a general 2 yr release schedule was the plan...and so far, they've stuck to that plan.
