Either nobody has asked or I simply missed the post,,,

Will the new G9 mesh come with G8-8.1M/G8-8.1F UV options?

If not does someone have a product in the pipeline and will that be released fairly quick after G9 goes live?

EDIT: Looks like this was answered in a different thread.

Could you point me to where this was answered, please? heart I'm dying to know this, I want all my characters I made to work on G9, but if that can't happen, what I can't do without is the skin I always use, a G8 skin, so I would love to know if a G8 uv choice is possible w G9 or if a product adding G8  uvs to G9 is on the way, Thanks in advance for replies. If someone has any idea if G8.1 characters can be converted to G9, if such a product is on it's way I would be even happier. If none of those: no thanks to this. Thanks in advance for replies to these questionsheart.

I'm working on a "Legacy UVs for Genesis 9" product which will put Genesis 3, 8 and 8.1 textures onto the Genesis 9 mesh.  It will include geografts for the head, shoulders and (probably) lips, as these cover the incompatible surface areas (Genesis 9 has no separate Lips surface).

Shut up and take my money.

Same here, and I feel the same 4 the ones making products to make all my G8 stuff: characters, morph packs, poses, expressions, geografts, geoshells, smart poses products that if I load a couch parented to her and load a pose she sits in the correct spot, products that makes all that work: shut up and take my money.

I'm like: double the mesh density, 8k maps, better posing, more realism: Ok, sold! You had me at double mesh density, just make my characters and all G8 and G8.1 stuff to work w no issues and I'm a happy camper!  Not so much now w this no backwards thing......

  • converting skins between generations?

I can't find the right key words to find some products I think I've seen at daz...
after creating a skin in skin builder 8 .. although it could just be any g8 skin is there a script  or plug etc.. anything that will refit the skins to other generations.. I've searched under skin, uv converter transfer etc.
pretty sure I've seen products to do this... may even have some but can't find the right term to search with.
3du has a lot of plugins for there texture converter 2 still listed but I can't locate texture convert 2 --- although I'm guessing it's way old.
I do have all the skin builders and there was a recipe card system for sb pro for 1 and 2 that would let you move skins but will that work with 3 and 8? but i think 1&2 had the same uvs

  • Pose Controls Missing after Hard Drive Move

Yes, the morph does appear in the shaping pane. The parameters pane remains unchanged. It's like it only finds those morphs when they're already applied to a character, and won't find them normally.

If it helps, the expressions are missing from the pose controls as well (and to clarify, the Pose Control tab is no longer there). I tried applying an expression from the Content Library, and it doesn't change the model at all.

Great figure but not for me. If it means getting some super machine to use it then this isn't a hobby anymore.

Why do you think it will need a super machine? The emsh resolution was said to have doubled - I'm not sure if that is literal or approximate but it should be no mor than one division level, so just knock the Viewport divsiions down to 0 and render to 2 or three instead of three or four. Map size should be avoidable, the Viewport uses reduced resolutioin by default and Iray can compress even if you don't want to use the likes of Scene Optimiser.

I think Richard is spot on here. I mentioned earlier that we may have to up our game when it comes to computers. What I was referring to is the V9's 8K textures.

When I want to fit something better into my GPU's RAM, I use an app called Irfanview, which is free for personal use. It's an image viewer with many editing possibilies. In this case, it has a batch mode for making edits like resolution. So I can make a new folder within the main texture folder to save the originals, then batch those to 50 or even 25% their original size directly into the main folder that the product will load from. Voila... instant GPU RAM savings!

The mesh is a genius design. Check out the Masculine to Feminine slider on this page.

What I want you to look at is how the changes come about from the original shape. The edge loops and quad placement of the base shape is just mind-blowingly simple looking, but very masterfully thought out. This figure will be able to withstand a Lot of change! I'm So looking forward to this! Probably get back to publishing products at Daz 3d because of it!

  • Wonky Teeth

The 'Mouth Realism 8.1 HD' morph makes some of my characters' teeth turn in, does anybody know why this happens?

The attached image is an 8.1 character, I've not dialled in any additional morphs, it's literally just the vendor's character morph at 100%, the character's HD morphs that came with it, and Mouth Realism + Navel morphs which loaded with the character by default.

Oh, a quick update, the morphs I've applied to models loads up just fine... so they're not exactly missing (I think) but I can't access them outside of a model that has that particular morph. It's very strange...

  • The big announcement on September 21, 2022 - place your bets!

I've seen a lot of concern over how well genesis 8 clothing converts to genesis 9. Since I have done a lot of conversions over the years, and this one will be another added to the roster, I figured I'd answer.

The answer is, as well as it ever has. Gen 3-8 was the easiest, because the figures were so close... not just in mesh, but in scale. But each generation has certain pitfalls. Some things will go nicely and arguably, better than before, but there are some places where it always fails.

Gen 8-9 has similar usual pitfalls.... high heeled shoes as usual, coz of the way we rig them (we freeze the bones on genesis in a high heeled shoe pose and transfer the rig to that... because it's how it has to be done) And also, anything that contains extra bones (clothy bits like loin cloths and such, which I personally do a lot) You have to take special consideration if you are trying to convert those clothy bit rigs onto the new conversion. With genesis 9, this does get sticky here, as you need a g8-g9 clone (which helps mitigate the proportional differential between the two figures in the geometry... it's not quite similar as genesis 3-8.) And as such, the bones have to be adjusted as well, since they will sit a lot higher after converted. I'm sure daz will have a g8-g9 clone eventually to make that easier (I made my own for the meantime, so I don't have to wait... and if u are savvy, you could do that too)

The next pitfall is poses. Gen 3-8 wasn't too awful, coz there was a 6 degree difference in the arms and legs (one could work that out easy enuff even without a converter) but with this, even tho the default pose isn't that different, the mesh is... the bones are named differently and so forth. There are pose converters coming, tho, and these work VERY well (tho, the one I've got doesn't on h.poses, but there's workarounds for it and it was only a beta iteration that was given to us for the time being, to help us make stuff)

There's also been commentary on how well it will go masc to fem and vice versa. This works a lot easier this time, because the default shape is more middling than genesis 1 was. This will alleviate not only stretching in the uv's, but also weirdness and difficulty getting that weirdness out in the geometry. But as genesis 1 goes, not all clothing by design is gonna work for a man, if it was made for a woman (much like secret deodorant lol) the things Im working on now.... very feminine. But that still doesn't have to stop you... I'm just not likely to support the male when it won't logically or aesthetically fit.

  • Star Trek Builders Unite 8: THE REBOOT

In case anyone is interested, there is a great Jeri Ryan morph for Genesis 8 on Deviantart from user Magnus1781.  No textures for her as of yet, so you'll have to use what you've got.  I know the hair and uniform aren't right.  I have both converted from old V4 assets, but they really don't look good on this morph, so I decided to give her a post-Voyager appearance instead, halfway between Voyager and Picard.

I have not done the export / inport with blender, but the same process should work ... send it over, make a morph, send it back.  Hexagon works well with Daz Studio and will automatically make a slider for your morph ... I do not know about blender.

A bunch of my demon characters depend on HFS Ultimate Shapes, especially for hoof and leg morphs. Getting specific fantasy body morphs for any particular generation earlier than a few years in seems like it comes down to luck, and I got extremely lucky that those were available for G8. I'm considering learning R3DS Wrap to transfer my existing characters if nothing else is available, but I'm worried about managing the rigging for a non-standard leg shape. Maybe it's a good opportunity for me to work on figuring it out.

I've seen a few people mention that it was much easier to create creature figures for Genesis and it might be the same for G9, which is encouraging. I do really hope to see a lot of creative morphs early on, since it seems like it's going to be much easier to create different types of normal human characters out of the box. Because I'm now more experienced in knowing what I'll need, I don't want to bloat my morphs collection, and I really don't want to spend as much as I have on G8 stuff, I will probably be much more selective and focus on picking up products that give me lots of options for transforming the figure dramatically.

It was even worse for figures before V4, as there was no autofit, no morph transfer plugin... Basically no easy way to reuse your older content.

Don't want to go the database route? Fine. Why not assign each creator a prefix and double check that the prefix is used in the morph name? Then there would only be a conflict with the creator's own work.

One potential issue with this is that when you create a custom morph for a character it needs to have the same name as the character morph for it to autofollow when you dial the character in.

That said I frequently use my initials as a prefix for other morphs but I mainly do freebies.

The worst issues I have had are packages that have a different morphs named using real names.A package might have six morphs; Angelica, Bethany, Cathy, Denise, Erin, and Francine let's say.

Then this package will conflict with a full character set using one of those names.

Tracking down the "multi" package can be a pain because you can't search for the top level package name.

Freebies, other store products, etc, I install to their own Runtime. So those are easy to remove/revise if there is a problem.

There is no reason why character morphs for the actual character can't have a prefix my Diva morph is named plDiva. It's the clothing that needs to have the same morph name to autofollow.

With all the complaints about loading times on a base G8F with all the character morphs, imagine how much longer it's going to take when the figure has to load both male and female character morphs.

Not just males and females but also creatures and animals. If Daz hasn't discovered a third way to handle this issue (or reverted to the Generation 4 method), I'll wait a couple of years until the 70-80 percent price reductions before purchasing, and ruthlessly discriminate on all G9 morph-based purchases.

Has something changed with the genesis platform in the last 2 years? It was my understanding that morphs only load when you dial them in?

That was the beauty of genesis compared to V4 with all her morphs loaded.

They do only load when you use them.

However when you load the figure DS builds the list of morph all dials and their dependencies, and in order to do that it needs to process all the morphs you have installed, which takes time if you have a lot of them.

It's nothing new, earlier Genesis figures worked in the same way. Simply G8 had a longer shelf life than earlier Genesis figures so way more morphs have been released for it (and it uses lots of correction morphs too, which probably doesn't help), which makes the problem more likely to appear.

  • Gen 9? I don't know

I don't see how including HD morph as part of the core figure would prevent creators to make their own morphs, even morphs based on the core character.

HD part of the morph is often a separate slider, and will only kick in if you subdivide the mesh anyway.
As long as you export the figure at base resolution you can use that as a base for morph creation, just like you would do for earlier figures.
