Thank you, xyer0, Diva and BlackTalonArts! *__*

    I'll add a few points:

1: My Products Used list was very long, so most of it gets cut :p If anyone needs to know a product, let me know!

2: I reshaped (messily) Dax Hair in ZBrush so it hung a little better in some promos. (Also, I love that hair and am in serious danger of over-using it...)

3: I hope the lighting examples were kinda useful. (Some of the HDRI shots may have had mesh lights for key, rim, or both. Specular looks a little nicer.)

4: If people want examples of my skins on other morphs, like Victoria 7, I can provide that. I hate detracting from the main character/person, but I know I'm one to buy skins for skins and slap them on OC's.

Anywho, thank you for the support! I love making skins! (That's a hard one to explain to people....) >=)

Immediate purchase for me, and thanks to you listing other products you used, it generated sales from me for a few of them too.  So you're paying it forward in my book.  I have several of the light sets you used in your promos, which is an amazing thing for you to include as part of the process.  It helps sell her seeing her in those different lights, and helps even more to know I have most of them!!!  Keep doing this!!

  • G3 needs a few more bones

SimonWM achieved swallowing/breathing/blinking frames/actions for Genesis 2 via three products (Genesis 2 Alive!, Muscularity Morphs for Genesis 2 Male(s) and

Muscularity Morphs for Genesis 2 Female(s)) and for Genesis, Michael 4, and Victoria 4 via one product each (also called Alive! and prefixed by the appropriate figure name) combined with Daz muscle morph packages. Since Genesis 3 seems to have been ignored for the most part by any enterprising animation utility developer, who knows if he will bother with a G3 version.

  • Methods for transforming a render into Victorian era painting?

Hmmm.  Maybe you can point to a portrait of the type you're looking for. Queen Victoria lived a very long time, through several eras of art styles, including impressionism -- seems pretty clear you're not looking for that. There really isn't a single "Victorian" movement. Your starting image suggests you're looking for a German romanticism style, popular in the first half of the 19th century. From a brushstroke staintpoint, perhaps you're I'm thinking you're looking for something like this (it's too highkey, but look just the oil technique):

    http://www.oilpaintingfactory.com/english/oil-painting-98084.htm ;

Frankly, I'm not sure you can readily achieve this with a filter, at least not without using several. If you have Photoshop there are some oil canvas actions you can get (try Google search, or the Envato marketplace if you don't mind springingf for $5 or so), and you can certainly do it by wet-brush tracing using a program like Painter or ArtRage.

My opinion only, but I think you will want to severely de-emphasize the background in your starting portait. The back wall and frames picture there are far too dominant.

Nope. Perhaps specifying "Victorian" era was more ambitious or specific than I intended. I got the renders to a point that I really enjoy and that is where they will stay. While I think it would be a great challenge to try and achieve total period accuracy, I new from the start that I wasnt going to fully attempt that. I landed on Victorian simply because thats the gown I chose. Vampire, murder and steampunk were ideas that were also moving around in my head when I made this. Thanks for the critique though. I do like to read honest opinions about my renders, positive or negative. Feedback is always welcome.

[bolded by me] I LOVE LOVE LOVE this addition to the promos! Best idea ever. Besides the fact that I'm in love with your creations, seeing her under different lighting conditions REALLY helps.

Wasn't there a really old set that went along with this

    http://www.daz3d.com/mush-hounds-sled-pack

    Don't think its availble anymore.

As I recall it was a aprtial clothing set, parts of it were isntead textures for other sets. Ah, I ddi buy the full set and this is what it says for the clothes:

The rugged wilderness needs rugged gear. Outfit your character in Meshworkz' Champion Clothes Set. A conformable parka for Michael 3/Victoria 3 includes a HoodDown morph to let the wind through your character's hair. Hands will stay warm with Mittens (a HideHands PoseMAT has been included) and there are protective Goggles to insure a wonderful snow adventure. And for those with the High Fantasy Naiar Edana Clothes and DAZ's Morphing Fantasy Dress, you'll find bonus textures.

I checked and, sadly, I don't own that set and can't currently find it offered anywhere

ETA: Beats578's Skidress might be useable as arctic clothing but it is too modern for Ansiko's set.

2: Excellent work on Dax Hair; it looks just like she has a perm. 3: The lighting examples were ABSOLUTELY useful because now I have an idea where to start. And thanks for telling us that you added some mesh lights on some of the shots. 4: If you have any of these lying around already, then please post them. Otherwise, I dial my own morphs to put under your skins (I own your entire store except for Quinn and Ceridwen---whom I will get as soon as she goes back on sale). Thanks for the extra renders.

  • Learning Carrara 8.5 Training Video... "Thiiiiiiiis close"....

Ah okay. I don't have DAZ Studio installed at the moment, which is probably why I don't have runtimes being found. Should I install that? Does it come with some good content included to use in Carrara that's otherwise not available? I try not to let my HD get cluttered with software I'm not actively using, but I can install it if it provides more content to work with.
And while I'm at it, I know at some point it was explained to me what the different generations of the Genesis characters were, and what the different named sets belong to (Victoria, Michael, etc). I tried searching through my past posts and can't find the post/thread now. Figures.
Ultimately, I want to set up a basic "palette" of characters, skins, hairs, etc. to draw from in my scenes, but I don't want to have an enormous library to sift through every time I want to add something. Let's say I'd like to have 1 of each gender, maybe a clothing/prop sets (fantasy, sci-fi, etc), a couple hair options, and a selection of morphs to start with. Just enough to learn the workflow, without drowning in options. As I get more experienced and feel more confident/comfortable with how everything works, I can add more options. But for now I'd like to apply the K.I.S.S. principle :p.
So, what would y'all recommend to start with as an absolute "basic" character setup?

  • Learning Carrara 8.5 Training Video... "Thiiiiiiiis close"....

    Annnnnd... Bought it :p
So, digging into the first series of videos now. Mostly overview and very, very basics, but I already like the pacing and set up.

Thanks for buying it!  I try to frequent these Carrara forums so if you have any questions once you've watched some, feel free to ask, either me or the many other more experienced Carrara artists will be happy to help!

    Hey thanks!

I'm on the bit where you're adding Victoria 4 and working with that.
I do have a couple questions, for whom ever would like to answer.
    1. I'm watching the video about adding Poser/Daz Studio content via adding Runtimes. When I've tried adding Runtimes, Carrara couldn't find any. Instead, I've added the content by adding folders to the Content tab. Everything loads and seems to work just fine. Poses can be added, clothing goes where it should, with a little bit of clipping, though I think it's because the clothing I'm using is intended for a different generation of Daz characters than I'm applying it to (this aspect of the Daz universe still confuses me a bit).
Anyway, the main question is, are there drawbacks to adding the content "manually" as I did, versus adding the runtimes as in the video? Or is it all the same in the end, and everything should work okay regardless?
    2. In my Install Manager, I have "legacy" versions of different things alongside non-Legacy versions (e.g.  "Genesis Ranger Legacy", "Alruna" Legacy", etc.). Should I be using one version or the other?
Other than that, everything makes sense and I've learned a lot of great, useful tips even for just navigating the interface, etc. I love how easy the modifiers are to work with. Doing some of those bends and twists in other programs requires a lot of setup and fussing to get them right. Looks like Carrara does a lot of the heavy lifting work for you, which is nice.
    Thanks!

  • Studio keeps deleting items from its library

All installed through Daz Install Manager and all in the default directories.  That's why it's so frustrating.  I might understand if something were out of place but it isn't.

One thing thast might be of importance my runtime is HUGE.  I have over 4,000 items.

When you install older content such as Aiko 3, Victoria 2, 3, 4 it doesn't actually get fully installed.  DIM puts that sort of greyed out icon in the products area so even though DIM says it installed it, it still has to be installed through Studio online.

I've done a good look through and can't find a setting anywhere that should do this.

  • Selbsthilfegruppe DAZ Studio - Beispiele, Fragen, Diskussion und sonstiges Gequatsche

Nochmals zurückkommend auf die Konvertierung bzw. Übertragung der Victoria 4 Character (inkl. Morphs, Skins u. Makeup etc.).
