  • DazCentral or DIM (Daz Install Manager) on Mac M1

One point, although Daz central is built on Qt5 Install Manager is currently built on Qt4 - though the change log dos indicate that that is changing (but not in the update just released).

  • DazCentral or DIM (Daz Install Manager) on Mac M1

    Hi,

DIM (Daz Install Manager) works way better (at least for me) on macOS. One thing you will need to do, which can be frustrating if not done, and that is what you need to do with almost every program from macOS 10.15 and up, you need to go to the preferences panel , Security and the interity tab, and allow the DIMHelper full disk access, otherwise you cannot install as the integrity overrides even admin right.
And DIM is much more "to the point", it does what it is supposed to do without a lot of other stuff, DAZ Central is, my opinion, more like trying to look like a website instead of an installer.

  • DazCentral or DIM (Daz Install Manager) on Mac M1

I'm setting up a whole new Daz software system on a new Mac M1 (Apple silicon) (latest MacOS, etc), and I go to the Daz get started/download page (https://www.daz3d.com/dazcentral) that offers both DazCentral and Daz Install Manager, and I'm confused, as there is a DazCentral download button (that downloads the Mac DazCentral even though the text above says PC), and a 'Have a Mac?' link right next to it that goes to the
Daz Install Manager download button for Mac.

Could this be any more confusing for a new or any user? Daz needs to clean that up.... but, being confused, I looked further down the page and read the FAQs, which say:

First... DazCentral is the better choice over Daz Install manager:
FAQ: "What are the advantages of DazCentral over Install Manager?
         Besides ease of..."

    Then confirms..:
FAQ: "I'm on a Mac, can I use DazCentral?
Yes, Daz Central is available for Mac users."

    But then says..
FAQ: "I'm on a Mac. can I use DazCentral?
We recommend using the Daz Install Manager (DIM) for the best experience on Mac."

    So, more confusion, not less.

So the question stands, which is best to use on current Mac (Mac M1, etc, latest MacOS, etc), DazCentral of DIM (Daz Install Manager)?

    • I sent this to Daz tech support but it's been about a week with zero response.
    • One feature list said Daz Install Manager was updated to run on Mac M1 about a year ago, but that is not true, as Mac shows Daz Install Manager is an Intel application (therefore running through the Rosetta Intel simulator on a Mac M1).
    • Both DazCentral and Daz Install Manager (latest versions as of 10/05/22) are Intel applications on Mac, no M1 (Apple silicon) support yet.
    • In reading every related forum post, FAQ, off-site reviews, seems people have had both success and failures with both apps on Mac M1.
    • Both apps seem to use QT 5... now, so many posts to the contrary seem incorrect, making both apps equal in that regard.

Which is techincally better (the general interface is not my concern, only reliability)?

    Thanks in advance ;)

It's missing a number of parts of it that give it it's distinction. You can barely call it THAT building.

*Edit: After Googling the building again I'm seeing it from all sides. The sketchup is plain looking side from one angle.

I was planning on making some scifi tower buildings down the road with all the textures I worked on for about a month. Maybe I can fit something in like that.

...found a better looking one but it's from the Sim City4  game (format .SC4Model).  Not sure if it can even be converted.

I did some searching and couldn't find anything that suggested you can convert the contents into another format like OBJ.

Is the file on gitub newer than the one that comes from Daz Central? Have you tried using the version from DC? I am using 2020 so I can't replicate your error. I'll try to get the trial and see if it gives me any issues and respond later.

Right now the Russians after invading Ukraine have been creating vast amounts of destruction that would definitely have the appearance of a dystopian landscape such as the flattening of Mariupol.

There is a type of architecture called Brutalism that is often associated with dystopian and has since become one of the visual aesthetics of the genre. In countries once part of the Soviet Union there are a number of buildings or structures that have a brutalist appearance. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brutalist_architecture

...ah yes, like this one in Manhattan.  I actually "transplanted" this structure to a nation that is a dictatorship in one of my stories as the HQ for their Intelligence and secret police bureau.

Haha. You picked that building on purpose didn't you. I had to jog my memory. I remember seeing before when I was doing research on Brutalism.

"One of New York City’s most compelling pieces of Brutalist architecture — the “AT&T Long Lines Building” located at 33 Thomas Street — has been revealed, in an investigative piece by The Intercept, to be one of the National Security Agency’s central spy hubs in the US."

  • How to re-install DAZ Studio?

That sounds like over-enthusiastic security software.

  • Daz to Max Bridge

Any idea when this will work? I have tried everything. First, downloaded from Daz store just to be sure. Next, check Install Manager advanced settings to make sure that the correct path was pointing to Max. Under Installed tab, Daz to 3ds Max is installed. I uninstalled and tried again. Daz Central states it is installed and gives me the option to Open but it does nothing. Last, Under Scripts there is no option for it. Being that I work in Max, I could really use this.

I searched the forums, 3ds Max and Daz to 3ds Max Bridge but nothing came up? Youtube videos make it look so simple but I just don't have the script. How do I get this?

BTW, how did you install your stuff? With Install Manager, Daz Connect or Daz Central? It's hardest probably to use Install Manager but ultimately it's much more controllable where things get installed :)

  • Returning after 10 year Absence

Thank you everyone for your comments and replies! Yaaaay - a brilliant salesperson helped me find it and the email it was under, I was in tears! Now, the problem is I spent the night installing most of it for it to show up in a postage stamp icon with an exclamation mark! I have forgotten ALOT! I used to be pretty good with Daz  - but with years away and content updates, I'm almost lost! That upload is what I get and nothing can be found when I click on it. I uninstalled it all, including Daz Studio - 4.20.0.17 version.

I'm back to learning everything all over again... but I will! Does anyone know where I can find help to install and SEE my content correctly? I do have Daz Central installed as well. The only thing that is showing up correctly is the new content characters and props I've bought. The old... no joy

  • not accept login and password

And you are using the same email and password as for the site itself? You don't have to log in - you can get your serial number from your account or from Install manager (via right-click) and enter it directly and you can install content through Daz Central/Install Manager.

  • "Download Failed" in Install Manager AND Daz Central

I am having difficulty updating Daz Studio and installing the Daz to Blender Bridge, and everything else. I have even tried to download an update for a product that I purchased, and got the same result.

Would this be attributed to an issue inside my computer? My other PC downloads and updates files wihtout any issue.

I have tried restarting my PC. I have AVG Internet Security, and I wonder if this was the problem.

Any ideas or solutions would be appreciated.

    Thank you.

  • Error in morph loader

Hi everyone! I'm not an expert, but it's not the first morph I create. I'm probably doing something silly wrong.

I have a shirt (left image) that I quickly edited to show you what happens to me (right image, the central part is narrower)

I imported the t-shirt into daz (left image)

With morph loader I imported the model in the right image, I set it to 100% and this is the result:

    Why? thank you

  • Moving my library

Daz Studio doesn't care where your content directories are, or what theya re called, as long as it is told about them. If you install through Daz Central or Install manager those do record the full location, starting from the drive, and so should ideally be updated (if you use Install manager and keep the zips after installing you can just change the destination, then select things in the installed tab and use the right-click menu to reinstall using current directories).

  • Anatomical elements on adult G8 and G8.1 models

Like frank0314 said with "Pro G8 bundle" you get the actual genitalia that will show up in the anatomy section of DAZ Studio. It is important to know you only get these in the adult versions of G8 Pro like Victoria 8 Pro and Michael 8 Pro, if you buy a teenage Pro bundle (like Teen Raven Pro) it will NOT contain the (anatomy section) actual genitalia. Practically speaking you only need two adult versions of G8 Pro (1 x male and 1 x female) to cover your entire G8 library; in essence you would have to do the same for G3 (should you use that) that comes with its own adult versions of G3 Pro. Daz Victoria Pro and Daz Michael Pro are your safest bets but other DAZ adult Pro’s should work too but I stick to what I know. G8 can be forced to work on G3 but some weird problems can occur that I'll leave to your imagination. I was delighted when I finally had the adult male and female G8 and G3 Pro versions.

As for the anatomical elements ("a.e.") that many figures that you buy in the DS shop have, it has already been explained, these contain the materials that will provide the "skin" of the actual genitalia; so first you would apply the genitalia from the central Anatomy section, this will result in a "Genesis 8 Female Genitalia" or "Genesis 8 Male Genitalia" node in your figure (and a metal like outline of the selected genitalia); and then you select this node and double click anatomical elements from your figure, and the metal like outline of the selected genitalia will be covered with skin material identical to the rest of your figure. Some skin materials, often with “full” in their name cover both the figure and the a.e. in one go.

A substantial amount of figures that you buy in the DS shop have no anatomical elements*; you can still give them the actual genitalia from the central Anatomy section; you can subsequently try (the skin material) from the anatomical elements of a different figure but you'll find that almost always there is an annoying color difference. The easiest (but radical) solution for this is to apply the Materials --> (skin) MAT from a figure like Michael 8 (that has the anatomical elements) on the (gender corresponding) figure that has no anatomical elements, then follow up by adding the actual genitalia from the central Anatomy section and then applying the Michael 8 anatomical elements to the newly formed "Genesis 8 Male Genitalia" node. With this simple workaround you can give any ('human') Gen8 figure genitalia.
    * whereas some signature figures have both Male Anatomical Elements and Female Anatomical Elements like the wonderful Catty.

Obviously using a different skin on a figure will also change the look of that figure, sometimes quite dramatically. There are cases in which the end result is (surprisingly) way better than the original figure, sometimes it just looks different. The good news is you can cycle through your entire library of Gen8 figures that have anatomical elements and apply their skins and a.e. to your figure. until you come up with a result that you like. As for makeup, unless you use L.I.E. material usually you can only use the stuff that came with your a.e. "donor" figure, if you use the makeup of your original figure it may look bad.

As for the shape and other attributes of genitalia, the DAZ shop has some products that provide a few sliders for that, like zev0 "Shape Shift". A website like Renderotica has stuff that either works with the official DS anatomical elements/anatomy (but you still would have to have a Pro bundle [see above] and a figure with a.e.) and it also has products that provide 'exotic' proprietary solutions (often no DAZ Pro bundle required). In my experience the official DS stuff, enhanced with a couple of sliders will suit most purposes. Quite a few Renderotica products turn out to be a waste of money, esp. color options are often woefully inadequate.

Some DS developers provide their figures with "Genital hair" and usually you can apply that material to almost any other ('human') DS figure within the same gender and generation, so it pays to look for that when browsing the materials of a figure you want to buy so you build a small collection of that particular resource (unfortunately most look exactly the same apart from color aspects, but there are a few different shapes to be found).
