Draw on Faces, or use a Cut Tool
Polygon modellers like hex make this difficult. While nurbs CAD packages do this stuff with ease. Sketchup does it easy as well.
To draw on a face, turn on face snapping.
Hold the shift key and draw curves onto a mesh. Keep holding the shift key for each point added. To create a hole. Create another mesh the shape of your hole, and make it self intersect the mesh you wish to cut the hole into.
Use the Free Tessalate tool (X key) to cut around the hole mesh. You can then delete the polys inside to create the hole or select them and extrude. You can also cut holes with using a circle line and boolean tool and clean up verts afterwards by welding. This is normal in all 3D polygon modelling packages.
Favorite Sci-fi Space Crafts and rendersMy favorite model is SGU`s DESTINY. The free model made by Ksst and can be found here:

The model was heavily edited by me, before it could be used in DS....The backdrop i`ve created with a very old software called "Universe":

Thanks!
Actually, a month and 2 days! Maybe I have the knack for this. I've always been artistic, but have never done 3D stuff before other than some simple objects in Google SketchUp.
I did some post work using Pixelmator.
would like something like Diagon Alleyyou can tour the Warner bros set on Google streetview
(and I just discovered it works on my android too)
there are a few crappy sketchup models
it should not be too hard to kitbash though.Crushing Creativity....Here's what happens to meFragg1960 said:whispers65 said:I just haven't done post work before because it felt almost like cheating or I wasn't good enough at 3d stuff to do what I want. It's funny because I spend a lot of time on both digital art forums and 3D forums, and many digital artists consider using 3D as reference to be cheating, and the 3D artists consider using digital post-work as cheating. They're both wrong by the way--no one says you can't use all the tools in the toolbox to produce what you want. Many professional digital artist use 3D as a base for painting (Google Sketchup, DAZ, Poser) and produce wonderful output, and many professional 3D artists use post-work graphics software to the same result. People who think otherwise are just artificially hand-cuffing their creativity.
There is no such thing as cheating--the only thing that matters is not copying anyone's work and getting to the end result in your mind's eye.
Point well take. I use 3d because I'm not an artist. I just don't have talent in those areas but I have a lot of respect for those who can create that way. Me, I can take what others produce and come up with stuff but that's about it at least so far.

Does anyone use Carrara for Modeling?8068 said:I do all my modeling in Carrara. No organic forms though ( no people animals or trees )
Most of my objects are machines, or tools.
I used to model in sketchup, or alibre and convert but I like to tweek too much, so staying in one program is huge for me.
and avoiding file conversions removes a big PITA.
I believe I can model pretty much anything I need at this point using both the vertex or spline modeler.
8068Hello friend, could you post please some of your work? I am interested since I am an Industrial Designer and I am not modeling on Carrara, my models are made in Sketchup, but rendered in Carrara, the which is quite cool!
I have a questionThere is no DAZ Studio plugin to Sketchup, what did you want to do? If you want to bring SK models into DS, it can be done if you can convert them to the OBJ format.
Renders or animations from DAZ Studio are yours to sell or whatever, you cannot redistribute the original meshes that the figures are created from. The most amazingly stylish and versatile figure ever is at last available for Daz Studio. At long last the figure you've all been waiting for is available for Daz Studio. A figure known for its versatility and stylish good looks. I can only be talking about Trimble SketchUp's DERRICK! Now Derrick can join in on the fun with other such famous figures as Victoria, Aiko, Michael, and Genesis. A world of adventure and imagination wait for you with DERRICK!

Looking for TV Talk Show set(s), TV Gameshow set(s), Court Room set(s) and TV Newscaster set(s)Hi Guys,
I'm looking for the following items compatible with Daz:
TV Talk Show Set(s), TV Gameshow Set(s), Court Room set(s) and TV newscaster set(s). These sets would make it very easy for characters in stories to reveal information quickly to the audience but in action.
I did find a standup comedy stage set at Share CG.
I know such things exist in Sketchup, but I find it so hard to use those files with Daz.
I use a Mac by the way.
Any ideas anyone?
Thanks!

Exact width on Booleans in BryceAlready two excellent alternatives to making text (to import into Bryce).
Here's a third option: Google Sketchup exports .dae which Bryce will import and if I need text in my images as 3D models, I use Sketchup.Star Trek Builders Unite 4 : In a Runtime Darkly!PDSmith said:mdbruffy said:Yeah he did have a special place place in your heart. You did use him for what two...three of your novels?
On a separate note, A TNG Hallway; another conversion, mod and change from Sketchup and a Conference room rebuild. Both will be posted over at DA once I'm done with the current book. in about two weeks or so. Not rendering in LuxRender really speeds things up.
your conference room rebuild look like it would be a great starting point for a next gen era forward lounge

I will try this again ( That ^(*&^$ dashboard!!!).
I like Kang best of the 3 original Klingons. He always seemed the one most likely to listen when there was a reason to. I used him in 3 books and he'll be in this next one- and in 2 of the remaining 4.

thanks for all your help:)
