When this was released, a high-end computer would have been a spanking-new two-core processor, an unheard-of 4gb of RAM since 64-bit operating systems were barely a thing, and a GPU with 512MB of VRAM. Your current computer literally is better than the network you could build with this.

Why would that matter? I don't see any reason to believe it would throttle performance to what was then common, though I can't say whether or how well it works on modern systems.

One of us is not understanding the other. I was saying that this program would be moot, considering current computers have faster processing power and better memory capacity than an old network. As in the problem that this program solved no longer exists, unless you're still working on a Core 2 Duo.

It seems like you're both right. If the software does run on modern hardware then it might still serve its intended purpose. It's also possible that modern computers are so capable that most people wouldn't need a cluster of them for Carrara. Now excuse me while I use my Soundblaster card to produce waveform audio one could never get from the built in PC speaker.

  • Carrara's "Clips" Are Great - Does DAZ Studio Have Something Similar?

When I started on this path - and really started to leverage aniMate 2 more, I started to think that GoFigure had designed aniMate to bring a Carrara NLA sequencer into Daz Studio.

While working in aniMate 2, we're using the best tweener that Daz Studio has - but that tweener is not user-facing, so we can't leverage it in the timeline. Weird. They just never added it as an option - but I've been told that it would be doable via script or plugin - which is what aniMate 2 did.

It's a bezier clamped tweener. Bezier Clamped is like a standard bezier with the exception that it will never exceed the highest value* nor will it go lower that the lowest value* - meaning that it doesn't do the wonky behavior that often occurs when using bezier for things like facial animations (eyes start going buggy, mouth goes more than closed, etc.,)

    * Highest and Lowest values used by us in our animation - not to be confused with limits. This will work as expected whether limits are enabled or not. Handy!

"Baking to the Timeline" - As the name implies, "Baking" is the process of mapping where everything is on each frame and making a key frame of everything. So Baking will result in a key for every frame of animation. That's what baking is in any animation software.

This can be handy when we need to utilize other sorts of interpolation - like Constant, Linear, or Daz Studio's TCB - which is a bezier interpolation with fields for T - tension, C - continuity, and B - bias.

I'm not handy with adjusting the TCB tweener yet - but it's done by selecting the keys to be edited and typing values into the fields on the lower left of the application.

Daz Studio is capable! I'm shocked! I dug into Content Creation Tools to make it so... but after doing that (and it's easy to do) animating in Daz Studio just plain ROCKS!!!

I'm looking forward to doing more stuff between both Carrara and Studio.

Oh, I wonder if the reason my VWD stopped working on my main machine because I uninstalled Poser.  I thought you could use it independently, but I may have installed it improperly to do so.

I had it working on my Win7 without Poser

it still works there but have Poser7 on that rig now too

it's Philemo's bridge that won't work for me on Win10, throws an error opening Carrara if extension added

  • VWD in Carrara - installation and updates

on the bright side, I have not tested it as don't have Poser installed but since unlike Poser cloth it creates morphs along the timeline, you shouldn't need the Dyn2Morph script to load the pz3 scene into Carrara

so later Poser with Python 3 shouldn't be an issue

  • Is it worth it?

Well it's certainly at a good sale price atm. AFAIK if you buy it and within 30 days can figure out whether or not it's worth it for you ... you can ask for a refund if you decide no. Worse case scenario the answer is no, so then the bigger question is whether or not you want to gamble.

There may be some Carrara users over in the Carrara forum who could answer your questions. [they do not all come into the Commons]

  • Is it worth it?

    TLDR: Buyer Beware.

That was released in 2006. I'm not a Carrara user, but I'd be pretty skeptical about this. This doesn't sound like a cloud computing solution. I think you have to build this grid out of your own stash of computers in your facility. The product readme has basically no information. It doesn't even say what operating system it runs on. Is it Windows? What version? Windows Vista was released in 2006. Does it work on Windows 11? Maybe it is not even for Windows. Maybe it is not even for PC. It only says "off-the-shelf computers". Does the licensing company even still exist?

Grid for Carrara by: , 3D Models by Daz 3D

Speed Up Your Workflow With A Grid Render Farm

You've done the work. It's inspired, inventive and ingenious. Now comes the most tedious part of the process - rendering. Click the button and walk away while your computer turns your visions into reality. But what if there was a way to see those results faster, without the downtime on your creative workstation?

With GridTM, you can eliminate all that creative downtime by taking advantage of the power of network rendering. The Grid site license enables you to build a render farm of up to 50 nodes with up to 100 CPU's, freeing you to continue working on your next piece while the tedious rendering is handled seamlessly in the background. What's more, this render farm can be utilized by every Carrara Pro seat in your office, so all of your creative workstations can remain productive.

The Grid license is priced to fit within every creative team's budget and runs on standard off-the-shelf computers, so you can easily add this powerful tool without breaking the bank.

    Excellent!

Thanks !!! That free plugin does have it's uses, but Carrara is my goto for scene setup and rendering !

    Mec4D The Aviatrix for Genesis 2 Female(s) - https://www.daz3d.com/mec4d-the-aviatrix-for-genesis-2-female-s

When loading the wings to the figure just as you would a piece of clothing an Error message came up. After this trying to load any other clothing just resulted in Carrara hanging needing CTRL-Alt-Delete to escape.

Solution - Loaded G2F into DAZ Studio and applied the flying pose to G2F.

Next I fitted the wings to G2F.

I converted the Wings to Blended Weight to be sure to be sure.

Saved the Wings as a Scene Subset.

Then I loaded the wings scene subset onto a posed G2F figure in Carrara.

  • the future and artists, redundancy?

an AI video I made, no Carrara and 3D are not yet redundant but about 33% of this was done on my own computer

    (Foocus SDXL, Stable Video Diffusion)

the rest all free AI sites for images, animation and music

I still do 3D anination too but this was DAZ studio for no other reason than it was easier to do clone shape autofitting from all the other figures to Vyusur's Catoon there

I intend doing one in Carrara with the better fur but need to save every piece of clothing as a blended weight support asset and jump over to my Win7 to use VWD so rather a lot of work

    greetings earthlings,

    hope everybody is well !!

been designing a chess set recently to three d print, workflow Carrara then Mexhmixer and blinder to sculp, then Carrara to join up the meshes, then Microsoft 3d Builder (nice little program) - oddly Carrara does a better job putting together complex meshes into one obj. than the fancy doodah 3d builder

Awesome. I have only watched chapter one so far, but definitely want to continue.

Animation is very smooth and natural, just the right amount of humor. It is interesting to notice what is going on in the background during certain scenes, nice attention to detail.

I hardly want to watch DS animations anymore because the quality is generally poor, but this is a notable exception. (I assume it is animated in DS, if I am wrong I apologize. Maybe it was exported to Blender or Carrara?)

Thank you! I hope you like the other chapters. A lot of fun of animation can be the little details you put in the background that you don't know if anyone will notice, but it's fun to just add them. I used to animate in Daz & Poser (my Star Trek: Aurora episodes were done that way), but I finally had to bail because some of the essential plugins I used (particularly Mimic lip sync) aged out. Doing animation well on this level is a lot of work and requires a lot of patience--it can take a year to create 10 minutes of animation when you do it yourself--but I enjoy the process and the challenge, so I'm able to have fun with the journey as well as the destination. It also doesn't hurt to have some expensive hardware and an understanding wife LOL. I still use a lot of Daz assets--most of the characters began as Michael 4 and Victoria 4--but I bring them into iClone to animate there. By and large, Daz assets are better than those from iClone, so I keep coming back for sets, props, and characters. CC/iClone does a pretty good job importing the Daz characters, tho I wouldn't mind if Daz worked more directly with iClone. Any, afgain, I hope you enjoy the other chapters!
