  • Saving a new character

No I didn't check UV, I wil do that, as for sending to Headshop, I just send G2F straight out the box, I change nothing, when it comes back, it looks great. It's when I then try to do a second new character, it overwrites the first, no matter where I save it to, or when I open Daz again the model has gone sour.

When you send to headshop are there any morphs dialed into the figure already?

What settings are you using when you send the morph back to Daz Studio? I don't use headshop, but when you import morphs settings are very important, I would assume the same for headshop.

When you import the morph into Daz does it look good initially, before you save it as a morph asset? I think the answer is yes which means you are saving the morph wrong most likely.

Part of the problem I see in the picture may be a UV issue. sometimes DS gets confused about which UV you need to use, did you check to see if this changed by accident.

  • Saving a new character

Sorry about the delay. So here it is.... I start Daz, open a brand new Genesis 2. or 3. go into headshop and change the character, headshop finishes and I then save my new character, I have tried three ways of doing this.

    (1) File > Save As > Charachter Preset

    (2) File > Save As > Support Asset > Figure/Prop Assests

    (3) File > Save As > Support Asset > Morph Assests

Once saved I mess around, knowing I have a new character saved. Then the next time I open Daz to load my new figure, it's all gone belly up, or, if it has not gone belly up at this point I cannot create another new figure, becuase no matter what I call it (and there have been a few choice names), it overwrites the first one, well blends the two together.

I don't know if I'm doing something wrong, if Daz is doing something wrong or windows 10 is doing something wrong. It's a real shame because I am loving Daz at the moment, I just can't create more then one figure, and if I try, I end up with two misfits.

Can you go through the steps you follow to get to that point? Ignoring the actual set up and shape cration in Headshop.

That sounds like a headshop specific issue. I save Morph assets and figures all the time with no issues.

  • Saving a new character

I am using G2F. then go into headshop, change the face, body etc and save as a new character, tried to save as a support/morph, support/figure/prop, saved as character preset also the problem is that next time I use headshop/faceshop to create a 2nd new character it overwrites the first one, no matter where I save it, or how I save it. Is this a windows 10 problem? I doubt it, as somebody that has a degree in C++ this makes no sense lol. I no understand!!!

  • Saving a new character

Dunno if it's just me:- I make a new character using Daz 4.8 in windows 10 and using headshop, I save said character, save as character preset and also support asset figure/prop. all is hunky dorey until I make another new character, save it the same but with a diff name and it overwrites the other one. How can I create a figure/character that cannot be over written? A stand alone character? I have tried saving to a new folder, changing character name, vendor name. I have basically tried all I know.

I thought I would give Daz a go after a clean install of windows 10. I am a long time Poser user and after this week, that's exactly where I'll be heading back to, it's a shame becuse I have found it so much easier and more use friendly than Poser! (never thought I would say that.) Please help.

  • FaceShop is now called HeadShop - Shipping at DAZ (Commercial)

    Winthrod,
Thanks for the note. I have not seen much user problem so far with the positioning of green dots. Let me remind you that this is not exact science but an artistic process, where trial and error are part of the learning curve. <---SNIP--->
    Best,
    Laslo

Well now you've seen another user having the same problem. Me. So that's two.

I was very reluctant to buy HeadShop 9 having seen little or no real movement in the last few versions of this product, but I eventually gave in because I had a specific project that I wanted to use it on. That project has now been completed, but not by using HeadShop!

I'm going to repeat what I said in another thread, and note that this is not a support request - it's feedback. Maybe others have had different experiences. If so, I urge them to post here.

    1) The Profile Tab is absolutely useless. There is NO point in having the ability to trace around the profile of the head object that you've already imported - you need to trace around the profile picture of the character that you're trying to create - so that you can transfer that profile to your character. What I thought was the raison d'etre of the whole product! Even then, the placement of the dots is agonising, as has been mentioned by the previous poster. You cannot correct without doubling back!

    2) The created head texture is 1024x1024. If I start with an 8192x8192 portrait, I don't expect to find it shrunk to a postage stamp texture that's only any good for Half Life or whatever. This is a shame because the actual texture mapping algorithm seems to work quite well.

    3) WHY is there a Load Project button visible on the first screen when the plugin is invoked when that button is never enabled? Why? Why? Why? Maybe I want to suspend and then continue a project that I already started.

But my biggest reason for giving such negative feedback is that this is now NINE VERSIONS - and still the basics are not right!

I regret to say that it's the last version that I will buy and I rate this product 4/10. It could be great ... but it isn't.

  • Can headshop 9 meld face textures to body?

Basically title. Looks really cool but useless if it can't blend the texture to a body.

Also, what's up with the new forums? Pretty cool, but where is the search and why can't I view older posts via google?

    HeadShop 9 and Genesis 3.
We tested HeadShop with Genesis 3 Base Female. It needs to be treated as an "Import OBJ" object.
    Steps:
    1. Select "Import OBJ" from options
    2. Adjust "green head" for shape
    3. Proceed as with other characters

Can you please advise if you will be doing an update to headshop to include Genesis 3 as the bas .obj???

I paid $95.97 AUD for this plugin from Daz... I want to know I am gonna get my moneys worth!

Yes, I admit it was all a fiendish plot. Btw. I suspect that gen 3 will work with gen 2 settings (man, woman, child). We will check ASAP.

It should load back as other non-Gen figures.

Just to clarify this point: I'm reading the Headshop 9 manual and have reviewed the chapter about how to load Poser figures and work with them in Headshop. Is that the procedure that should be used to work with pre-Genesis 2 figures made by Daz3D (Victoria 4, Michael 4, Genesis) in Headshop?

Yes. With the exception of Genesis 2, all other figures are treated as "other". This also means that only Gen 2 figures can be aged and weighted in the "Features" tab.

I recently had the Daz3D studio and Headshop9 set up on my computer and it seems like the installation and everything is setup fine. No problems there. However, as I was working on my first project in headshop, I discovered that whenever I apply the "autodots" they line up just fine on my picture, but copy the characteristics about an inch too low on the genesis head. For example, the autodots are lined up around the lips of my picture, but show up on the chin of the genesis head. This goes for the eyes, nose, etc.
I appreciate any tips on how to solve this!

This would be the best place to post your query as he likes to provide the technical support.

Genesis 3 is free, as were Genesis 2 and 1. There is a Genesis 3 starter essentials pack in your product library. SO you can play with Genesis 3 without spending a penny.

As a product of the 70s counter-culture who has survived, I owe my survival to learning to manage addiction. I know that if I try G3, the initial free sample will not satisfy my curiosity nor squelch my desire. Mrs. Reagan advised us to "Just say NO". So I will wait until my current drug of choice loses its effectiveness and I can afford to purchase the new long list of required headshop paraphernalia ... again.

For me, no, this is the end of DS for me. I simply find no use for it 90% of the time, I'm spending a vast amount of time with Bryce and I'm far happier with how the results are more applicable to my purpose. Every item in my wishlist is a Bryce item.

No diss on DS, it's just not useful for my purposes any more. *shrug*

...the latest release 4.8.0.59 fixed the bridge with Bryce so you can set up characters in Daz and import them into Bryce so I wouldn't totally trash your investment. Think of it, a NVWaSIaT fighting off tentacles in a really cool surrealistic Bryce setting. There are also a good number of freebie props and sets for Bryce, particularly at Share CG.

I'm not throwing anything away, it's all getting archived on mt 1TB drive over this week and not moved to the new machine unless I see a huge need for it. No de-installing, just.. no installing. ;-)
