I'll be perfectly honest. I'm just not all that thrilled with Victoria 8. It's not because of the figure itself --I have nothing against the advancements of the figure. I'm just tired of Autofit, conforming clothes, no dynamics and a complete lack of animation friendly tools --no offense to Animate2, Keymate and Graphmate --all of which could use some overhauling. They keep making advancements on the figure, but everything else about DAZ Studio is largely ignored and I find myself looking at other applications because of it. These days I spend more time wishing for advancements to the platform and not advancements to the figure. Just from my personal point of view --until the platform changes I don't really see myself re-buying all the Victoria 8/Genesis 4 stuff. To me, the money is better spent on softwares like Marvelous Designer or Syflex  and MDD/Alembic exports to other packages that allow for far greater flexiblity/control. I'm tired of NO PHYSICS, NO Improvements to VIEWPORT PERFORMANCE, NO STRAND BASED HAIR, and NO ANIMATION CONTROL RIGS, so until that changes I doubt I will be doing much more in DAZ other than creating figures or applying animations and exporting them to somewhere else to rig or render.  I might get a new figure, but I still get the same old headaches when it comes to working, and I'm really not keen on continuing the cycle. 

I bought Victoria8 Pro and I'm not impressed.

• Gen8 destroys extra bones in Gen3/2 clothes just like Gen3 "backwards compatibility" did. There is absolutely no reason to delete extra bones and their weights. Also why even touch the bones which are identical between Gen3 and Gen8?
• Shoes are mangled the same as well. Looking forward to wasted hours of fidgeting with the transfer tool for subpar results.
• The reworked heel bending is achieved by removing the heel bone. Is that more natural? Sure you can't bend your heel but neither can you bend your metatarsals in real life. If the goal was to remove unnatural bending options then why were the metatarsal bones kept? Oh and they put the individual toes under the 'left/right toes'. That's hard to understand as anything other than deliberately created incompatiblity since it accomplishes nothing else.

• All new PowerPose Expression Interface for easier, more realistic facial poses
  I don't use PowerPose much but this looks impressive based on the video. No reason this same thing couldn't be done for Gen3, however.
• Separate conformers for eyelashes...
  Completely unnecessary as you could already hide eyelashes and replace textures to get any result you wanted. Why eyelashes and not eyebrows? Freaking bethesda had the wisdom to add eyebrows as a separate conformer in 2011 for Skyrim. At least separate brows would be an actual, much needed improvement. (at least for people like me who don't want to edit skin textures). I guess you're already saving features for Gen9...
  Apparently the eyelash thing is good for content creators. And I didn't notice the eyebrows that came with V8. My bad.
• ...and a new eye design
  I had no complaints about Gen3 eyes. I'm sure I'll have no complaints about Gen8's either. BUT! The eyes have the same size and shape. This could've just as easily been released for Gen3.
• Improved default pose to allow for new content types
  Oh come on. I'm an amateur when it comes to modeling but even I know that the pose is not a real obstacle for creating anything.
• More realistic fingers, toes, and nail beds
  Yeah these do look somewhat better.
• Dramatically improved IRAY Uber Shader with new Sub Surface features for natural depth and detail of skin
  Oh please. You can't justify a new Genesis version with a shader. This is pure filler to pad the list.
• Included clones for compatibility with Genesis, Genesis 2 & Genesis 3. Even between male & female
  Not impressed. See the list on the top.
• Improved abdomen, shoulder and collar bone bends...

  I hope you're paying royalties, lol
  Big pro for me here is that this seems to work on Gen8 in general. With Gen3 I had to inject 50% Victoria into every figure to get these results.
• ...and built-in muscle flexion
  Yeah I bought the morphs for Gen3, thanks. It's nice that this is included by default now but nowhere near revolutionary.
• Reworked heel and toe bending to support more shoe types
  See my related point on the top. Please someone give me an example of a shoe that was simply impossible to make for Gen3. Until then I'm considering this point an absolute negative.
• Extreme backward compatibility and amazing advancements all in one
  Yeah I wanna keep this family friendly so no comment.

Cynical interpretation:
Ok so the lovely people at Daz get their money from running the store. They need a new generation every once in a while to wipe the slate clean. They tried to cover this by paying lip service to compatibility.

Alternative interpretation:
Daz has the misguided notion that they have to churn out a new generation every few years even though nobody is really asking for it. They are victims of their own previous success in creating Vic7 and this lackluster feature list reflects their inability to come up with any groundbreaking improvements.

The results are the same either way. The quality creators will move on to Gen8. I'm left with the choice between sticking with a generation that sees no new releases or start rebuilding my collection from zero. My blood pressure goes up. Life goes on.

While I'm not surprised that the Victoria Pro Bundle lacks a black female again, I am surprised we actually did get a day one G8F black woman.  I guess that's a step forward.

I just realized they skipped Genesis 4,5,6,7.  If Microsoft can do it, so can Daz. :)

The new Victoria is the 8th version of Victoria, the 4th Generation of her on the Genesis platform.

I'm going to have to pass on Victoria 8 for now.  I have a ton of Gf3 characters I have even rendered once yet.  Not to mention the large amount of clothing etc I have yet to use.  I can't justify it at the moment.  She looks good and I do have the 10% off the pro bundle but its not enough.  If they would have given me %10 percent off the starter bundle or just the figure, I might have bought it. 

Just gonna pass at this point I think.

New unattractive Victoria to spend more money on? That's a no.

Buy the head and body morphs and expressions seperately yet again? Also no.

Spend a bunch of money in the middle of the month when payday is a couple of weeks away? Big NO.

Buy that stuff at the end of the month when I have money because Daz will keep the discount on it for that long? Never gonna happen.

Keep paying for PC membership even though almost all the free "gifts" are props I don't want just in case they might actually get a sudden generous impulser? Daz can bite me!

Do I sound bitter? Maybe it's because I spent the last couple of months buying Merchant Resources for Genesis 3 and my project for that is now dead aand moldering in an unmarked grave.

On the bright side It looks like I'll be saving a lot of money in the next few years. Guess I need to find a new hobby.

I'm sorry - but I'm still buying V4 charas at this point too - and it someone brought out an interesting enough Gen4, Genesis or G2 I would buy it. No reason to think an item is unsellable from a cutomers perspective, just because there's a newer model out that supersedes it. Generation 4s have their advantages of the more resource intensive more recent models, and Genesis has it's unique qualities. I think it's a pity there aren't many new characters based on them.

This is the ugliest Victoria yet, she seems to get less femine and more masculine with each version. And some of the promos are downright creepy looking. This is an easy pass. I'll be saving a lot money this year.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder... I didn't purchase her, but the promos are looking quite nice. A bit like Lilith 7. The only thing I really dislike is the 'Joker' mouth in certain expressions (smiles); it looks like Leo and one or two other G3 figures. 

Edit: I found the base V4 ugly; with her painted-on hair and her long toes she looked almost like a monkey. But with the right morphs and textures she was so beautiful!

Can't remember which kneeling pose this is, but I had to tweak it. I didn't want it to look sexy. Her knee is floating above the floor at the moment. Oh well. Dante needs to be sinking into the floor more, but that was the only passed out/deadish pose I could find at the moment, LOL. 

I also wanted to show the Morning Star Wings again in a different texture and pose. By the way, they are for G3F as well. Quite a few things in the bundle are for G3F, so take a close look at product descriptions. 

This dress is Callidora for G2F (from the Olympia 6 bundle.) I'm tempted to try VWD on it, I just don't like how it fits at the moment, but I haven't done any smoothing, SubD, etc. This is just the default. That's Feather Hair for V4. I told autofit it was for Genesis and it fits well enough. Will test some more V4 and V3 hairs and see how they do.

Older clothing- I'm guessing it may be a two step process to get Generation 3 and 4 clothes onto V8- fitting to V7 with Wear Them All, and then to V8. We'll see.

Also keeping it as Genesis 4 will get it confused with Generation 4 since most refer to Genesis products as G#.

Not a big fan of how Victoria 8 looks.  She looks a lot like Lilith 7 and really either looks like a tranny or just looks too old - of course this is just MY opinion.  I might just stick to the Genesis 3 gals for a while.

Interesting take - she looks quite good IMO - but then my favourite G3F is Opal and Lilith 7 is one of the few G3s not on my wishlist currently.

Hate to say, "told you so!" I see patterns in releasing characters. The only thing that bothers me was the 3 months delay, why not releasing during the march madness sale?

I'm always in favor of constant change and I'm happy with this new release cause they heard people's concerns about backward compatibility.

There wasn't a delay. V6 and V7 where both released in June (two years apart) :)

Genesis 8?  So what about 4, 5, 6 & 7?

Well, I know it's not a Windows Nein thing this time around - probably to avoid confusion over Generation 4 with Genesis 4 and Victoria 5, 6 and 7 with any future Genesis. From that point of view it seems sensible to break from any numerical similarity to avoid confusing the customer.

Unfortunately, your question is usually the first ??? in  the customers mind...so confusion continues but in another direction.

Something to be said for nice clean scientific version numbers, Marketing are getting more fickle all the time.

hey guys, i'm a new guy and just started using daz like 3-4 days ago. I want to know if i should get victoria 8 pro bundle or not. I made a thread and people recommened me to first get familiar with daz by working with free stuff before buying anything but i was still confused as many free stuff also require you to have morphs. So i just saw victoria 8 pro bundle and i read if i get victoria 8 pro bundle i will get victoria 5,6,7 pro bundle free and victoria 8 starter bundle and other things too for free. i think if i buy victoria 8 i won't need to buy again anytime soon.

So what i want to know is if i right now just learn about daz and buy victoria like a month later will it still include other bundles or not and if i even get victoria 8 pro bundle will i still require other stuff to buy or it would be enough for now. thanks

One thing to know is sales are time sensitive. If you are looking for thjings to do your art that are in the bundle and you can afford it, grab it now. If nothing particularly pleases you, just wait til the next sale. 

LOVE that hair!!!!! She looks quite nice there, but the front of the shirt is looking real cling-wrap. Do you think that's just her pose, IE sitting/leaning forward? Or does the shirt do that regardless of her pose? 

BTW, I did install the new studio, no glitches whatsoever, all custom content is there.  Also note JUN HAS AN UPDATE. They probably fixed the files.

If I recall correctly, the only version of Victoria I've ever paid for was V4...Oops, actually I paid for V7, too; $17.90 for the Pro bundle. 

Well... hmm. 

Her face doesn't look as creepy or artificial as V7's did. And the items included with the bundle are pretty nice. I also like the idea of enhanced backwards compatability, though I really hope SickleYield releases some new ultra templates soon. 

My only quibble is that... Daz, I also got the Victoria 5 pro bundle through the Carrarra Pro. Doesn't that count for the V8 discount? D:

Welp, Victoria 8 Pro has been bagged and bought, and has bonus wings too, because WINGS, man. WINGS.

Spent some time testing things, and pleasantly surprised about how nicely things auto-fit on Genesis 8.

FYI, Gen3F skins go great on her.
