Novica & Forum Members Tips & Product Reviews Pt 9
I know many of you like her, but I just don't find V8 atttactive... Some of my problems with her are: eyebrows too close together, too dark and thick, unattractive face, shoulders too thin for body, arms look weird, waist too wide, almost as wide as hips, boobs too small, she looks about 40. All this is fine for an ancillary character but I think, of all characters, Victoria should be the ideal woman, gorgeous, like V7. I have zero interest in this character, and I'm sure she'll end up free eventually anyway.
II am interested in experimenting with plain G8 and morphs and expressions but will wait for PAs to create better morphs for G8 for the gene pool and will enjoy creating my own. I do kind of like her cat eyes, but that's about it... Hate her nose... I think she does look kind of masculine with her wider waist, thicker wrists and less feminine features too. I don't see myself investing much in G8 except for morphs and expressions and maybe one or two exceptional PA morphs later, maybe Freja, one of my favorites.,. Or maybe get merchant resource morphs for her eventually, but the truth is, I already have sooo many characters in all generations and haven't used at least 70!% of them yet. So I have plenty of time to wait for V8/G8 products to go on massive sales. I do have to admit I'm a bit excited to see how G8 morphs work, but that's about it...

(May) - Centaur 7 / Ninive 6you think they'll ever run out of content to sell online?Or they could wear white leather or linen....or maybe thinner material is in and leather goes the way of spandex. lol
Or a vendor breaks the weight-map thing and has a way for clothes to sway better and suddenly THAT is the material or design everyone starts to use.
Hair has done that for me. Now, that I'm into hair with wind-morphs or great movement dynamics-
I hate hair with no bones or limited poses.
Those are now cheap, but I also know to only put those on character that won't be doing much. lol
Imagine no more morphs and you simply place the 'gravity point' somewhere in the scene and the parented objects are pulled in that direction.
Like the dress points that way...the figure's hair also points that way......
That would change every hair product thereafter.
Who would buy something- without that?
Suppose Victoria 8 was specially configured to temporarily assume the pose compatible with whatever clothing you picked, fit the clothing 100% and THEN switched back to the original pose she was in......
Suppose Victoria 8 had a foot morph dial that could pick ~15 different foot poses -to fit ANY generation of shoes....and she would do the same with her feet- just so she could fit the,,,,,
Suppose she had a universal morph translator that could adapt to any generations morph dials......lol
You'd probably buy generation 8 figures and stop worrying about all these add-ons and compatibility issues and all the other headaches.....
Suppose DAZ worked different and you generated/customized each figure, like a video game or how you adjust bodily parameters......
Choose hair length....color, amount of curl...texture....oily, dry....split ends...buzzed, geled.....etc.......
That *could* change how hair for your figure is created.....
Victoria 8, a bridge too far???I think one of the reasons people think "it's too soon" may be the delay between Victoria 7 and Michael 7. I remember that delay being very very long; like almost a year. So naturally it might feel to some that the Gen 3 technology (which is composed of female AND male figures) hasn't had a chance to mature because it seems like Michael came along just about 5 minutes ago.

Why Daz Needs to Release New GenerationsHello! I was also just recently thinking that Gen 8 would be out this year, and "Poof!" there it is. I won't be buying right away, because I prefer to see other models appear, along with the stuff in their bundles. Maybe by Christmas time.
I'm also happy that they aligned the numbers, making Victoria 8 = Gen 8. I always thought that Victoria 7 = Generation 3 just left too much room for misunderstandings.
Looking for pumps for G2FYou can find them at the other store. Also look at https://www.daz3d.com/pumps-2-for-victoria-6 . You can hide the bow.
Genesis 3, Victoria 7, or Another Custom G3 Character?I've been a V4/Poser Pro user since I got started in 3D around 5 years ago and am finally making the switch to DS and Genesis 3. Starting out as a complete novice, I learned as I went with my primary goal of creating a very specific custom character using V4 as a base model. My question is now that I'm moving into DS and G3 figures, which base model should I start with if I have very specific physical characteristics in mind? I want to rebuild my original character from scratch as a chance to improve on the original and avoid all the novice mistakes I made.
The character should be 5'7" or 170cm in height, about 120lb or 55 kg weight, with measurements around 37-25-36 in inches or 95-65-90 in cm. What do you all think? Is it worth it to start from just a base G3 female figure or start with V7 or some of the other DAZ or 3rd party characters? I'm inclined to just start with the basic G3 model, but figured it couldn't hurt to ask.
"Brace yourself, my dear wallet! There's always another Sale - and Glitches!"So, is the g8 base figure available?
Apparently, it is...I just checked DIM and she's in there. :)
I see the Genesis 8 Starter Essentials in my Product Library, but not yet in DIM.
So... Anybody got any money left to buy a V8?
I've spent about $50 in the last three months - it (G4/8 / V8) was coming so I decided to wait and see if I wanted join the bandwagon, or get G3 items cheaper. :) So I have all that lovely credit.

The extra discounts for older items don't seem to work in today's sale.

The default 40% off works. The extra 20% off for owning V8 works.
The extra 20% off on Gen2 compatible items does not seem to work. The extra 40% off Gen items does not seem to work.
Even if I add items from the Gen2 or Gen category, I end up with a 52% discount (40%+20%). They should be 61.6% off (40%+20%+20%) and 71.2% off (40%+20%+40%).If I add a new item, then the correct discounts show up. However, it specifically says "no additional purchase necessary", so I shouldn't have to add a new item for this to work.
It's not working properly here either.
So Genesis 8 is here!I'm wondering if DAZ might have caused themselves a marketing problem.
Genesis 8 consists entirely of technology advancements. This time (perhaps to save money) they are using the same mesh (with a few tweaks) as the previous generation. And it shows. If you were casually glancing through the pics in the store and didn't notice all the mentions of "8", you'd just see another day in the cycle of Genesis 3. If you go back through the store there's a very clear visual demarkation between G2 and G3; but Victoria 8 looks no more significant (parhaps less so) than, say, Rune or Ophelia.
Will enough people buy into a new generation that doesn't look like one?
I think this is because the G3 figures were such a step closer in realism that any steps past that will seem insignificant in comparrison :P. Vicky 6 was very stylized. Vicky 7 looked like a person. Vicky 8 looks like....a person ;). Subsequent generations are going to be more for tech than for looks since the G3s looked so nice.
Laurie
Pretty much agree with that, but it remains the case that there is no visual distinction between generations. V7 and V8 do look like people: people who are closely related. This will likely carry on with further "base" figures in the G8 range.
Hence wondering about marketing problem. Car makers carefully present a new range in different clothes, even if it isn't really that new. Folk buy with their eyes.
Why Daz Needs to Release New GenerationsI for one am not jumping on the Victoria 8 bandwagon... Now when Bethany 8 comes out I will be yelling "SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!!!" at the screen.

Day 4 of Generation 8 and...ok didnt noticed that because i havent downloaded yet
its all the fault of this lazy G abreviation
but why 2 names for one product now ?
Victoria hasn't been a figure since version 4.
The Genesis base figure is free. Victoria is a premium morph and texture set. You can use the base figure without Victoria.
The numbering of Genesis was brought in line with Victoria and other morph sets, so people knew that the version 8 sets were for Genesis 8.
Day 4 of Generation 8 and...This one has nothing to do with Victoria 8, because I didn't bother buying her. It's Genesis 8 all the way - all I bought were the head and body morphs and the expressions. I've been putting the morphs through SimTenero's randomiser to create new shapes and then resurfacing them with SB3 textures. I've done a few of them now and there's nothing particularly special about the one pictured - I just wanted show one that uses existing stuff from a mix of previous generations.
As mentioned, it uses a Skin Builder 3 texture, and the top, hair and skirt are all Genesis 2. The shoes are Genesis, and the stockings are from a Genesis 3 product. All of this went straight on with no trouble - I did have to adjust the top a bit to fit over the skirt, but they're from two different G2 outfits and I've had to do that anyway when using the same combination on G3 and even on G2. Heels can be problematic - I've had the most success with Genesis and G3 shoes and the least with G2 in my limited experiments with them. So far, tops have needed to be of a tighter fit - there's a lot of under-boob clinging going on which shows up a mile away with anything looser fitting.
I'll probably buy her a pair of heels of her own eventually, but in the meantime I think I can get a lot out of my current G8 resources and existing content, and there's nothing at all wrong with G3, either. No rush for the shiney stuff here :)
Dare we Specul8I see that this G8F is labelled as V8, so picked up on that...sorry if it caused confusion.
But fibermesh eyebrows? Next it will be fibermesh pubes and armpit hair and arms and legs stubble... someone will then have to design a bikini wax kit for her!
I have had enough. If there is clothing and hair that crosses over from G3 as I see in the promo email images, I might go for something if appealing... otherwise, I don't think so.
Misty's Carrara friendly G3 does enough for me.
And I have been making custom eyelashes from dynamic hair for about 3 years now, and can control colour, thickness, shape, etc. Job done there. Good for book covers where you need a face to pop out!
SileneDay 4 of Generation 8 and...its not Genesis 8 people its Victoria 8
Umm... It's both. Daz pulled a fast one on us, and jumped from Genesis 3 to Genesis 8. We've been saying Gen4 for generation 4 so long, looks like they decided it would be too confusing to have a Genesis 4. I don't have V8, nor am I likely to buy into the 8th generation for some time. But I've tinkered with the Genesis 8 female from the latest starter essentials addon, and can see some definite improvements. (As well as some challenges.)
Day 4 of Generation 8 and...its not Genesis 8 people its Victoria 8
DAZ calls the base figure Genesis 8 ("Genesis 8 Female" in the DS library).

Most buyers never use the forum. Numbers will tell in the end, and I suspect Victoria 8 will be a big seller.
I have to say you are right, while the forum people are loud they need more number to really influence DAZ or Vendors, numbers are what drives the market. But I will say you had a win on the decryption stuff
