Getting on the 9 train, or not
Just compare the bending and body details and decide for yourself.
On the left is Victoria 8.1 HD, on the right Victoria 9 HD. Both wear basic panties and bra from the respective starter essentials and the Voss hair for their generation.
The pose is from Z Ultimate Kneeling and Crouching for Genesis 8 and 9 | Daz 3D Full 03 Kneeling Mirror.

Then I did the same picture with Victoria 8.1 dialed out and Victoria 7 for Victoria 8 dialed in.

You can find an example for everything, sure. But, as a rule of thumb, elbows are around the height of the waistline. Except for Van Helsing, they are not. For the other characters it looks like the legs were shortened and the arms forgotten.
That leads to this, again nsfw pin-up

https://www.deviantart.com/alien-area/art/Victoria-9-Cyberpunk-Bedroom-1035260702Indeed. Have I ever mentioned how much I don't like V9? Seems she has some reach, though. You wouldn't want to box with her.
She looks good eating chicken nuggets though.

I'm lucky to have Texture Converter 2 that makes it easy to convert V4 textures to G3 UVs. Unfortunately it is no longer available. So, I can even use V4 textures easily with G3 and even mix them with native G3 textures. Helps a lot.I wondered about that. Lucky you! Without it, the best I could do is https://www.daz3d.com/legacy-uvs-for-genesis-8-victoria-4 . Otherwise, I could get get textures to G2 using https://www.daz3d.com/v4-skins-batch-converter-to-genesis-2-female-s or https://www.daz3d.com/v4-skins-auto-converter-for-genesis-2-female-s . Both require https://www.daz3d.com/victoria-4-for-genesis-2-female . Then I guess I'd add https://www.daz3d.com/legacy-uvs-for-genesis-8-genesis-2-female unless there is another way to convert G2 skins to G3 or G8 - Cludgy by comparison.

8 G9 characters side by side. Careful: they are as delivered, i.e. nude.
Check the comments.
https://www.deviantart.com/alien-area/art/The-Bad-Batch-1036047837Thanks for that. They look fine, well within normal parameters for healthy human females. If anything, they're all way too perfect for the pursuit of realism. I haven't really thought about specifically adjusting limb length. Height, yes. Real-world, there is a lot of variation. There are long-torso w/short legs, long legs w/short torso, etc. Some folks have long arms, some shorter. Nipples are soft tissue on soft tissue. They are frequently lower than one might think snd position varies, size varies, prominence varies - like breasts themselves. Some people, their nipples point straight down and some people have noticaeble variation between left and right breast. Real humans don't often match up to the ideals for human form. Nothing wrong with what I see except it's all a bit too uniform to be real.

https://www.deviantart.com/alien-area/art/Victoria-9-Cyberpunk-Bedroom-1035260702Getting on the 9 train, or notI am still playing around with Genesis 2, 3 and 8, I have bought a couple of G9 clothing items and the clones product to use them on Genesis 8. The thing being that since I have invested so much time and funds into Victoria 4, Genesis 1, 2 ,3 and 8, that when Genesis 9 rolled around I realised that I no longer have the desire to go full tilt into another generation. So in the end, Genesis 8 is where I come to the end of the line.
Are G2 items still selling?I don't buy G2 stuff, or G1 for that matter. I have today, however, bought a Victoria 3 character. You are probably quite right, plain nuts. Regards, Richard.Getting on the 9 train, or notGenesis 9 released with some Genesis 8 and 8.1 materials/texture sets converted to 9 (offhand, Victoria and Michael 8.1, Kento, Jinx Jones, Jazz, Kala and Zale). At some point an update introduced named character morphs (Amala, Matt, etc) that correspond to the textures and appear in the library as "Amala G9", etc. The morphs don't resemble the Genesis 8 characters.

As someone who only started using the Daz store during Genesis 8.1, I jumped to Genesis 9 instantly.
So it has me wondering - did all the other generations have this much push back with people a year later asking if it's worth it yet?
It was G3, specifically Victoria 7, that got me to use Daz Studio at all. I was a diehard Poser user but when G3 was introduced with V7 and Iray I finally jumped on board. I was never a fan of G1 or G2 but bought them cheap way after they were new. My general impression was that people loved G3 but some didn't want to deal with IRay which was this new complicated thing to people at the time.
Exactly like my story. I liked G3 right away and G8 is just an inproved, fixed version of it.

I tried to like G9. I really did. But I don't.
There are a few things better about G9 than G8, but not much, but they are little improvements.
And I do like those.
BUT
The flat, dead-looking non-reflective mannequin-ish eyes ruin it for me.
I've had people tell me it is my lighting and other things, but it's not true. I know how to use lights. I've tried all sorts of differen lights, different angles, colors, lumen and intensity settings, I've been at thins on anf off for over a year now. I've tried experimenting with the shaders too. Nothing works. I've only had ONE G9 character exhibit eye reflections and they are very faint and only show up on really really close ups of the face.
I have no problems at all getting eye reflections on G8/8.1 No problem at all.
So after over a year of this, I give up. It's not worth the aggrivation with this flawed product.
Until they start making the eyes properly, I'm sticking with G8 and 8.1. I have officially given up on G9. It's trash,
interesting about the eye reflections. I thought it was me.
I have perfomed extensive experiments to figure out why.
I have put G8 and G9 figures in the saxe same spot in the exact same scene and the exact same lights.
G8 eyes produce beautiful reflections. G9 eyes do not.
I' placed random props likewise. Shiny props product light reflections. G9 eyes do not.
I've tried minimal lighting - just one point light - in a scene with the same results.
I've put up to ten different point lights at various positions, different lumen and intensity settings - with the same results.
When I look at my close ups, I can clearly see the yes on G9 figures literally look flat compared to the spherical eyes of G8 figures. That might be a clue.
I've spent over a year seraching the internet trying to find some way to make G9 eyes work properly and nothing at all helps.
I recently purchased a newer G9 figure in hopes someone had done better with the eyes. Nope. Same crappy nonreflective eyes.
Hopefully someday G10 will come out and the design team will make the eyes right. Hopefully. But until then,I'm not wasting any more of my money and time on G9.
I'm done with it.
Oh, those G9 eyes are the creepiest, especially in the main promo for https://www.daz3d.com/victoria-9-mega-bundle. Those 3 women & their wild eyes are the scariest! It's less noticeable in other characters but I think eyes are one of the 3 main reasons I am staying on the 3 and 8 Trains. (The other 2 are prices and my aged computer.)

To dispel a myth, yes there is an included HD Add-On.
It's included in the bundle, but before Kara 9 (I think), the HD morph was part of the base figure product (hence the HD moniker in the name of that base product: Victoria 9 HD, Michael 9 HD, etc).
Right, somebody must have complained about that then.

Getting on the 9 train, or notI got into Daz around Victoria 4, so it was possible to get renders that didn't look like bad poser art. In fact a lot of the Victoria 4 figures and Genesis 3 figures still look amazingly good "if" you put in a lot of work and really learn the software inside and out. But the train I was on was photo-realism. I believed I was able to finally purchase that ticket to my satisfaction with Genesis 8 and 8.5. Many of the G9 figures are very nice, but as far as realistic renders there are G7 and G8 figures that look just as good, and many G9 figures that look like Genesis 3 if one were being honest. It really depends on the skill of the PA, and perhaps the quality of promo pic ( I'm no longer inclined to see if a figure is actually better than it's marketing; if you have bad promos now, you've simply lost a sale ).
As far as jumping on the Genesis 9 train, I see no problem with it now that vendors have come out with applications that make it backwards compatible with many of the items I've already purchased.Getting on the 9 train, or notPancake said:

Each and every one, going all the way back to when Millennium Woman was released and becoming the first real alternative to "Posette", the very, very basic female model in Poser. The arguments are so similar if you don't know what generation people are talking about, you would never be able to guess. And a year is not even a particularly long time for the arguments to continue – there are people today honestly arguing that Victoria 3 and 4 are superior to anything and everything released later.
Ignore the whinging, use what makes you happy.
Getting on the 9 train, or notI bought the Victoria 9-HD preview bundle when it was available and have been struggling with G9 ever since. I have about 15 characters, mostly Daz originals, mostly female.
+ the faces are really nice
- the chest / breast area is a compromise for both genders due to the unisex base
- G9 does not bend well, especially shoulders and thighs.
- arms are about 15% longer than for G8. In some poses that looks strange.
- 8K PBRs are overkill, for example Van Helsing has 4 K and I don't see a difference.
- G9 was advertised as more male clothes, where are they?
=> I focus on G8 / G8.1 and convert clothes from G9 if necessary
Trying to recover long-lost V4 items from crashed computerNo, unfortunately the content library is mangled. A few of those disk sectors apparently had a head impact, so the content library is gone, quite thoroughly unrecoverable. I DO have the packages that I downloaded - they were on a separate partition and mostly survived and are readable. But - I tried to install them, and I cannot find them inside my content library. I'm not sure if I can recover Victoria 4 - I tried to reload, and can't find her. It's a freakin' mess. That's why I asked if it's worth by time to try to piece this all back together - and that starts with "where in the world is Victoria 4.0?" (sorry - it's early and knee pain kept me up all half the night!). Then the time to reload the content and then time tto do Wear Them All 'up convert'. I'm a little discouraged that it's worth my time.

where is head propagating scale for v4?V4 is pre-genesis that means old technology, if you look at the release date it's 2006 that's almost twenty years ago. You can't expect genesis features as head propagating scale or full body morphs or conforming outfits in V4 V3 figures. Indeed it is much better to use genesis wearing V4 outfits, I mean Victoria 5, rather than using V4 herself.

it's so odd that I think that's very likely.
But whatever the case, nobody has yet showed me an image that should be mature. And by that I mean something we wouldn't see in our everyday lives.
- It's not people in underwear - walk past Victoria's Secret, Boux Avenue, Ann Summers, or even Marks and Spencer, and you see such things in the windows. Nobody thinks anything of it.
- It can't be bare midriffs, Almost all young women here seem desparate to show off their bare midriffs, so that doesn't count.
- Legs? Well no, the same applies.
- And if i go swimming, I see swimming costumes and bikinis so that doesn't count.
This is 2024, not 1824. Which items for sale here should be hidden by default in 2024? Maybe there are.a few, they are exceedingly rare.
I think they need to get out more!
Is anyone going to speak up in favour of this, just to provide some balance? Does anyone actually want it? Anyone???
I don't know about your everyday life, but for most people https://www.daz3d.com/cgi-secret-details-for-genesis-9-masculine-and-merchant-recourses
In that case, I agree that it's a sensible decision.
Even so, people don't ket kicked out of the swimming pool if they turn up like that. Admittedly, most of us don't look that way!
I agree!
To the DAZlings who decided this AI solutionI suggest ou really should revisit the think tank. This course leads to a dead end, suicide mission. If you, DAZlings, are trying to retain customers and not drive them nuts away, stop blurring pg 13 content with R rated content. Stop using AI because whoever programmed this model you are using, is an embicile. But if you are headstrong to ride this route,be inclusive. Implement this mature filter for stuff we post in the forum. If we can't post it neither should you. Why not give us this filter in the forum. If you can, we can. That is the hypocritisy. No alternative filter for those in the forum who want to post nude examples, but the PAs are exempt and can post this under a mature filter but we cannot? PAs do not bring in the money that pay you and them. We the buyers do. And we should be able to post mature filtered content too. But you really need to get what mature filtered content because your AI filter seems to be suffering a meltdown.
