What is FilamentI tend to think of Filament as a halfway house between Iray and Texture Shaded. Better looks than texture shaded and quicker than Iray. Does not handle transparency well, though. Makes it good for posing. I always tone the brightness down to 20% of default to make it look better on screen. Regards, Richard. What is Filament

What is FilamentFilament is a Google developed render engine, realtime and PBR based. It has a number of issues, but for people without a sufficent NVidia GPU it is an option. And it might get better over time.
To render vith it you select Filament in viewport, and then set Render Engine to Viewport.
What is FilamentI've been using DAZ for almost 20 years. I know my way around pretty well, and what I don't know I can usually figure out.
But for the life of me, I cannot fathom what use filament is.
All I can see about it is that it makes for faster screen manipulation than Iray. As far as that goes, I can see no advantage to filament over a texture shaded screen. Also, my CPU fans don't scream and my CPU does not run at 100 % like they do with Iray on. But again, the same is true for texture shaded. Along with that, Task Manager shows the CPU maxed out while the GPU is idle when my screen is in Iray and when I render in Iray.
Dell XPS 8930, Core i7-8700, 3.2 GHz, 6 core hyper threaded & NVIDIA GeForce 1060 3GB
As far as image rendering goes, it does nothing.
Is filament only for the view port, or does it also render images?
Thank you.
Ken.
Daz Studio too brightYou're with the Filament Drawstyle... check the upper right corner of Viewport, that little bulb icon. Choose Texture Shaded from the dropdown list of Drawstyle, or directly press Ctrl + 9.
Next time when you launch DS, the default drawstyle will be Texture Shaded.

I am told this is not correct, though I can't get the command to function either,
So I believe the enablement of toggling Filament to work with menu item and toolbar needs to be done in coding DLL with SDK. After adding it to menu item, it is greyed out, on toolbar, it's not clickable ~~

What GPU's are you using for this? I'm assuming they're Nvidia GPU's so that you can GPU render, as AMD GPU's aren't supported for GPU rendering in DAZ at present [unless something changed since I last checked]. I'm looking to do another dual GPU build with Nvidia GPU's this time, but it's a bit difficult to find updated information about which cards still have mGPU support. I believe Nvidia once had it on the 3060, then removed it after the 40 Series was released. I've been asking around but no one would respond. When I look up the specs, there's no mention of it aside from the standard mGPU is dead schtick that isn't actually true outside of gaming.
Sorry I haven't seen your comment until now. I'm using 2x3090. I might be wrong but the problem with AMD GPUs is on the iray, if you want to do filament renders you should not have a problem, but iray is powered by nvidia, so it make sense to only work with nvidia GPUs. Other than the fact that on task manager I didn't had a problem with the GPUs on any DAZ version I have used. Before this machine I had an older one with 2x1080ti. I'm still using it from time to time, to render animations and it still works well without any problems.

Cannot open DAZ Studio scene file: Not enough memory resources are available to process this commandI tried the following: Open Daz Studio with a blank scene, changed the Viewport Drawstyle to "Wire Bounding Box", and File > Open to open the file, then Daz Studio crashed with an unknown error.
Then I tried: Open Daz Studio with a blank scene, changed the Viewport Drawstyle to "Filament (PBR)", and File > Open to open the file, then Daz Studio crashed with an unknown error.

How can I do that in Daz Studio?Richard Haseltine said:Try switching the Viewport Drawstyle to a non-Iray/Filament mode, perhaps.

Why, WHY (painted eyebrows on G9)Serene Night Thanks for mentioning using both at once, that can look nice in Filament too. Question : does it only work once in a while, when the two items happen to be similar enough? ( I do remember having some fiber brows that include morphs )
/ peace/ P.S. My excuse for being behind in erasing the painted not wanted brows is because there's such a backlog of tex that seriously needs the baked in shadows removed - as stated by others, and IMO, those can really wreck a good texture. And using Filament what you see is what you get.
Why, WHY (painted eyebrows on G9)I'm only concerned about what brows look like in Filament, so usually, painted ones look better. Most of the G9 chars come with a link to brow card 06, ( I think it is ), if the char doesn't have it's own fiber brow. That one looks pretty good if you take out all the shiney shader settings. The free Onfleek item for G3F worked well because of putting a tex shadow under a fiber brow. But a really nice painted brow looks much better,IMO, of course the painted ones are frequently too dark, or too something to be modifiable enough with the brow morphs. I typically want a smaller brow and especially not as wide. So, even without any available morphs for a fibermesh or card brow I find I can scale down it's x value maybe at the hip or head (sorry brain freeze) and even the y scale. If it's in the right place after scaling, then have it parented to the head instead of the figures main node then it moves correctly when posing the figure. So I'm all for having browless tex when needed and hope Zev0 is gonna update, cause I never get around to erasing them manually. And I'm still trying to figure out how to seamlessly transfer nice painted brows from one tex to another in GIMP - maybe not an average persuit at this point. /
/ peaceDaz Studio scene with Filament render into a photorealistic scene with Stable DiffusionHello everyone, I would like to know how I can transform a scene created in Daz Studio with render filament into a photorealistic render using Stable Diffusion. Not having a powerful PC with Nvidia I can only render with filament so I would like to use stable diffusion to achieve a similar quality render.
I would like to get a similar result as shown by this Youtube video. That is, the scene must remain the same, only the graphics I want to improve.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8wAR3Cr0BZI
I would really appreciate any advice or experience you could share on how to make the rendering better with this technique.
Thank you very much in advance for your help!

After using the DAZ AI for awhile now, I have to agree with this. I have been upscaling and enhancing my DAZ renders with other AI tools for awhile now and getting great results so i think that DAZ should focus on that instead of the actual art generation part. For one, it will still have users wanting to purchase content instead of just generating it with AI.
Here is an example, I spent about an hour setting up this scene for a longer story. I liked the results i got, but enhancing it with AI made it go to another level with the details that AI added
Read this on redit concerning Daz A.I.From redit:
""Nope. Now when I say I’m using Daz, I’m going to have to explain to people that I’m not using the A.I. version of Daz, and I’m hand crafting images. This is kind of undermining your users. We’re here to make incredible scenes that we have in our head. Not some A.I. doing the creative part for us.
This is a pretty common opinion in the art community at the moment, so I’m surprised to see Daz trying to do this. It just makes no sense.
What Daz SHOULD be doing is making Daz Studio more stable. Give us more polished tools. Recycle that A.I. stuff and incorporate it as optional tools in some way. Maybe make Animate, and other animation features easier to use. Basically, I would just love to see the software itself run smoother.
Do yourselves a favor, and scrap this A.I. nonsense, it’s not worth trying to force it for a quick cash grab""
Here are my thourghs on Daz A.I. It is just a tool for lazy people(hey I'm one too LOL), but this tool should not be used to create images for you but to help color the scene or create backgrounds or help with lighting and texturing. Lets face it Iray is too hard to use with expensive Nividia cards that are dying because they were never designed to be used to render or animate but gaming. I would like Daz A.I. to just let me pose the assets and render them in Filament or OpenGL in grey and the Daz A.I. takes care of the lighting and shading of the charcters.
