    image

I want to hate Genesis 8 but since its backwards compatible to my Genesis 3 skins, all those really great skins I invested in are still usable... all is not lost.  I can have my cake and eat it

too.. O.K.  So of course Victoria comes out with her all too familiar perfect skin blandness that says she's been sheltered in a dark closet all her life... her skin is almost literally a blank canvas... that beings said, I do like what I see.  I figure I'll have to wait a few months to see a character with more color varations in the skin but so far...  I love her and I love that somebody was listening to me and made a new set a wings to go with this angel.

Alright... I love how the lighting reacts to her.. whatever you've done to the skin to make it react so perfectly to light.. with all that sub-surface stuff going on.. Wow.. great job.  I love all the new articulations.. Yes, it does look that much more real.. we're not just fooling ourselves... I didn't want to but I have to love her and save up for the eventual release of the male version... You got me but make a skin with some real variations please.

  • Why Daz Needs to Release New Generations

The people who are complaining represent a minority of the shoppers at DAZ store. Most buyers never use the forum. Numbers will tell in the end, and I suspect Victoria 8 will be a big seller.

That assumption is most likely false. You're assuming a selection process in the sampling. If the forum represents a random sample of shoppers (which is much more likely than magical selection) then dissatisfaction in the forum is proportional to dissatisfaction in the larger purchasing community.

  • Okay! Cry and you buy it anyway!

    *sigh*...
Okay folks... let me 'splain my end of it, and it may lend perspective. For those who wonder how long I've beenfarting around with this, let's just say that I still have P3 Posette (Poser 3 default female) and P3 Dork lurking in my runtimes. Mid 1990s stuff. So, you can say that I've been doing this awhile. :)
So... G8 drops this week - cool. I'm willing to give it a go and see what it does.
I completely understand how folks can freak out a bit... after all, Victoria 4 had the stage all to herself for years on end. My Vicky4 Poser-style runtime weighs in at nearly 150 GB all by itself (urgh.) I can dress up G1-3 in the content there, a metric frigton of poses have been converted-up from Vicky 3 to G3 (yeah, those work too - kinda cool, no?) so let's just say that I've felt spoiled...
...now this thing shows up, demands that I upgrade DS, and I gotta basically start all over? Well, not really... I still have the mountains of older stuff all the way up to G3 (and that's not going to change), and it's very nicely backwards-compatible with a lot of stuff (and the stuff that isn't? Okay, so I gotta do one more step... BFD.)
I think I'm going to give it a try. See what it does. If it turns out to be a hassle with little benefit like the original Genesis figure was (no, really), then I'll stick with G3 until things get more cozy for me. I stuck with Vicky 4 until G2 came out, so no skin offa mine, yanno? (Hell, I do that sort of now with using 3delight because I don't have a spare machine set aside just to render iRay stuff; that may change in a few months, but Daddy needs himself a new MacBook Pro first, so that's where my pennies are going. ;) ).
Anyrate - just give it a shot. If you like it, cool. If you hate it, cool. On my part, I'm looking forward to the expanded PowerPose thing where you can generate unique expressions with it.

  • Why Daz Needs to Release New Generations

Seeing a lot of people complainging that Genesis 8 arrived too soon. Its been 2 years and people need to realize Daz is in the business of making money. I'm sure they have a lot of data tracking what products sell the most and plan around an aggresive calendar release to keep consistent interest going. When you release a new generation, it sparks interest for lapsed buyers and brings them back. You see this in any industry. As soon as a company notices sales dropping, time to release something new. Does not have to be a signifigant improvement, as long as it sounds new you get peoples attention. Just like how Apple releases a new phone every year. A tiny improvement, but the new name draws in new buyers every year. Its like Apple customers complaing the 6s release was too soon because they just bought a 6 a year ago. If releasing new generations boosts sales, you can't blame Daz for doing so. Its how businesses operate and survive.

Where is the "Like" button when you need one?! Good speach. smiley

But supposedly the Ugliest Victoria Ever will.

Victoria 7 didn't sell? I doubt that... winklaugh

Who said I was referencing Victoria 7? I'm referencing 8.

  • Magnetize clothing?

Magnetising was used for Victoria 4, which had magnets (dForms in DS) that were controlled by joints to adjust the mesh shape. it wasn't a general technique for improving fit or draping.

  • "Brace yourself, my dear wallet! There's always another Sale - and Glitches!"

Haven't purchased anything yet, just some general feedback on the sale.

-THANK YOU for making G8F backward compatible with G3F base UVs. This means that if I got into G8F I could continue using Vyktoria's second-skin bodysuits on her, as well as Skin Builder 3. I also think I've figured out the tool for transferring morphs, so I now have a G8F with Bethany, Karen, Mika, Ophelia, Genevieve, a few favorite PA creations for G3F and my favorite Facegen creations brought over as well.

-Useful generic angel wings with default texture in black and an indirect Lucifer reference in the product name: Sorry, that theming makes it an automatic no-buy for me. I'm not saying the PA's are required to accomodate my beliefs, I'm just noting what cost them this particular sale of an otherwise useful and not especially expensive product.

-The Victoria 5 and 6 Pro bundle freebies aren't sweetening the deal that much for me; I already own the characters from the V5 set (Gabi and Tori, fine work from two PAs who don't work on DAZ products anymore); the poses aren't anything useful to me (even as Genesis 1 and 2 toys), and between the two I would get: four or five marginally useful hairstyles, two marginally useful minidresses, some useless bits of skimpwear, 2-3 fantasy outfits that need a second-skin layer underneath, and a cool looking fantasy armor that probably won't autofit well. And a couple of perfectly fine but nonessential characters for G2F, one of my least-used Daz figures.

-10% off V8 pro bundle for acquiring V7 Pro Bundle in the past: Thank you, nice gesture, pushes it down to about $59 with PC discount. That would be within my budget if I hadn't overspent last month. Pro bundle content is reasonably varied but nothing with that "MUST BUY" vibe for me. V8 herself...haven't cared that much about any of the Vickys as characters in themselves (as opposed to a platform for other characters), and this one's no different. I suspect this is one of those cases where the promo images make the skin and morph and morph look less attractive than they really are but it will be a while before I find out for myself. Best of luck, guys.

So, which method are you using to transfer morphs?

I messed up this morning on my V8 purchase and neglected to add V5 and V6 pro to my cart before hitting checkout - got confused and thought I had them already - only have V7 Pro - I really shouldn't shop until after my morning two cups of coffee... Meh, I already have most of both bundles that I really wanted - but still annoyed at myself...

I did not add v5 and v6 pro bundle for same reason. thought i bought them already ????

they were manually added to my library by Daz without my asking this morning.  Thank you Daz.

and i did get a bonus 10% on everything for buying a previous Victoria pro bundle.

    so check your product library.

Silene, the paid for flagship character is V8 the base is Genesis 8.

I only have G8F the base

many will say V8 as used to speaking of Victoria and Michael

I did not actually own enough pro bundles to get much discount as was only the Victoria ones I have piles of pro bundles but not hers well not as a set actually have most the items in them which did not count.

  • New Iray Ubershader

With all the hoopla and uproar over Victoria 8 (and I've contributed myself), I've seen little about the new Iray shader and its features. Lobes under Translucency. Personally, I think that's the most exciting release this week. We can never have too many maps and controls for a figure.

Are there any tutorials or guides on what the new features do and how to use them?

  • "Brace yourself, my dear wallet! There's always another Sale - and Glitches!"

Well, the fact that they are throwing in the Vic 5, 6, and 7 pro bundles with the Vic 8 pro bundle (apparently I already have all of the Vic 5 pro bundle stuff, I seem to remember that being a freebie at some point), makes The Vic 8 Pro Bundle (at over 50% off) look very attractive...

It's a nice deal for those of you who don't have them; BUT not much of an incentive for us loyal Victoria buyers who already have all her Pro bbundles.

You get an extra 30% off. I guess. I get 10% off for having one of the past pros.

    Huh?

Lucky you. I own all three of her previous Pro Bundles and I'm not seeing any extra discount; not even in my cart.

Reload the cart page quite a few times. I was shocked to see that I only have a 10% discount (total, instead of the 50% :)), and needed to reload it at least 3 times for the actual discount to show up.

That doesn't work for me. The Pro Bundle is still $66.13 no matter how many times I reload the cart,. NOT HAPPY!  crying

Do you have an offer in your inbox? https://www.daz3d.com/notifier/inbox/offers/

Not there. It looks like once again I don't get the offer even though I purchased all the actual Victoria Pro Bundles (not just thee items in them). Grrr!!! angry

I don't have any pro bundles and I didn't get an offer, so just not you, LOL

I know many of you like her, but I just don't find V8 atttactive...  Some of my problems with her are: eyebrows too close together, too dark and thick, unattractive face, shoulders too thin for body, arms look weird, waist too wide, almost as wide as hips, boobs too small, she looks about 40. All this is fine for an ancillary character but I think, of all characters, Victoria should be the ideal woman, gorgeous, like V7. I have zero interest in this character, and I'm sure she'll end up free eventually anyway.

II am interested in experimenting  with plain G8 and morphs and expressions but will wait for PAs to create better morphs for G8 for the gene pool and will enjoy  creating my own. I do kind of like her cat eyes, but that's about it... Hate her nose... I think she does look kind of masculine with her wider waist, thicker wrists and less feminine features too. I don't see myself investing much in G8 except for morphs and expressions and maybe one or two exceptional PA morphs later, maybe Freja, one of my favorites.,. Or maybe get merchant resource morphs for her eventually, but the truth is, I already have sooo many characters in all generations and haven't used at least 70!% of them yet. So I have plenty of time to wait for V8/G8 products to go on massive sales. I do have to admit I'm a bit excited to see how G8 morphs work, but that's about it...

We all have our different opinions, but these are just mine...

We sure do have different opinions! laughAs I recall, you really liked Genevieve, and I hate her. At least we each have something we like!

  • you think they'll ever run out of content to sell online?

Or they could wear white leather or linen....or maybe thinner material is in and leather goes the way of spandex. lol

Or a vendor breaks the weight-map thing and has a way for clothes to sway better and suddenly THAT is the material or design everyone starts to use.

Hair has done that for me. Now, that I'm into hair with wind-morphs or great movement dynamics-

I hate hair with no bones or limited poses.

Those are now cheap, but I also know to only put those on character that won't be doing much. lol

Imagine no more morphs and you simply place the 'gravity point' somewhere in the scene and the parented objects are pulled in that direction.

Like the dress points that way...the figure's hair also points that way......

That would change every hair product thereafter.

Who would buy something- without that?

Suppose Victoria 8 was specially configured to temporarily assume the pose compatible with whatever clothing you picked, fit the clothing 100% and THEN switched back to the original pose she was in......

Suppose Victoria 8 had  a foot morph dial that could pick ~15 different foot poses -to fit ANY generation of shoes....and she would do the same with her feet- just so she could fit the,,,,,

Suppose she had a universal morph translator that could adapt to any generations morph dials......lol

You'd probably buy generation 8 figures and stop worrying about all these add-ons and compatibility issues and all the other headaches.....

Suppose DAZ worked different and you generated/customized each figure, like a video game or how you adjust bodily parameters......

    Choose hair length....color, amount of curl...texture....oily, dry....split ends...buzzed, geled.....etc.......

That *could* change how hair for your figure is created.....

  • Victoria 8, a bridge too far???

I think one of the reasons people think "it's too soon" may be the delay between Victoria 7 and Michael 7.  I remember that delay being very very long; like almost a year.  So naturally it might feel to some that the Gen 3 technology (which is composed of female AND male figures) hasn't had a chance to mature because it seems like Michael came along just about 5 minutes ago.

  • Why Daz Needs to Release New Generations

Hello!  I was also just recently thinking that Gen 8 would be out this year, and "Poof!" there it is.  I won't be buying right away, because I prefer to see other models appear, along with the stuff in their bundles.  Maybe by Christmas time.

I'm also happy that they aligned the numbers, making Victoria 8 = Gen 8.  I always thought that Victoria 7 = Generation 3 just left too much room for misunderstandings.

  • Genesis 3, Victoria 7, or Another Custom G3 Character?

I've been a V4/Poser Pro user since I got started in 3D around 5 years ago and am finally making the switch to DS and Genesis 3. Starting out as a complete novice, I learned as I went with my primary goal of creating a very specific custom character using V4 as a base model. My question is now that I'm moving into DS and G3 figures, which base model should I start with if I have very specific physical characteristics in mind? I want to rebuild my original character from scratch as a chance to improve on the original and avoid all the novice mistakes I made.

The character should be 5'7" or 170cm in height, about 120lb or 55 kg weight, with measurements around 37-25-36 in inches or 95-65-90 in cm. What do you all think? Is it worth it to start from just a base G3 female figure or start with V7 or some of the other DAZ or 3rd party characters? I'm inclined to just start with the basic G3 model, but figured it couldn't hurt to ask.

So, is the g8 base figure available?

Apparently, it is...I just checked DIM and she's in there. :)

I see the Genesis 8 Starter Essentials in my Product Library, but not yet in DIM.

So... Anybody got any money left to buy a V8?

I've spent about $50 in the last three months - it (G4/8 / V8) was coming so I decided to wait and see if I wanted join the bandwagon, or get G3 items cheaper. :) So I have all that lovely credit. wink

The extra discounts for older items don't seem to work in today's sale.

The default 40% off works. The extra 20% off for owning V8 works.
The extra 20% off on Gen2 compatible items does not seem to work. The extra 40% off Gen items does not seem to work.
Even if I add items from the Gen2 or Gen category, I end up with a 52% discount (40%+20%). They should be 61.6% off (40%+20%+20%) and 71.2% off (40%+20%+40%).

If I add a new item, then the correct discounts show up. However, it specifically says "no additional purchase necessary", so I shouldn't have to add a new item for this to work.

It's not working properly here either.
