  • Genesis 9 Character Issue - Fewer Surfaces!?

    3. The merchant shaping resources are $7000? Is that right? I don't think I've ever seen anything that expensive on the Daz store before.

Those are meant for PA's and if you haven's seen more expensive ones, you haven't been looking

For the record, PA don’t actually pay that price for the morph pack.

  • Render issues with hair (fixed)

    Instance Optimisation in render Settings

Cool, I've never even noticed this option. I'll check on that, thanks Richard.

I dont know what is happening with my render

You could also check in the Parameters Tab if your hair has morph options (often in the Hair > Actor menu).

Most hair content creators provide morphs to expand the whole hair + cap. Raise that default value of 10-15% and your problem will disappear.

Reason why this is happening :

On Daz products it's common to use a separate mesh called hair cap, or more accurately a skull cap. Object on which is projected a texture of hairs. In order to hide the genesis' skull and its skin texure.

This cap mesh is often a basic copy of a portion of the skull's geometry. In my opinion, providing a LIE texture (torso/face) for the Genesis with the same texture of hairs rather than projecting it on an extra cap geometry, would avoid this common issue once and for all... but anyway :

    - If your cap's geometry intersects with the Genesis' skull geometry then those artefacts happen. So expanding the hair (use a provided morph, not the Scale slider) will avoid intersections.

    - or this could happen if your Genesis is subdivided. But the cap isn't. So activate subdivision at render time for the hair cap, if Genesis' Mesh Resolution > Render SubD Level  is set at 3 let's say, set the Render SubD for hair at 3 also. This should solve or avoid most of the issue.

  • Whose characters for G9 you're expecting?

I just want to be positively surprised, so no expectations.

I have enough the previous generations characters to play with, so I can wait.

Would be only good to get official Daz morph packs for Genesis 9, at some point...

  • OBJ Companion

It's not hard to import/export OBJ out of and into DAZ Studio no matter the 3rd party program that made the OBJ. Remember if you create the morph that if should keep polygon count the same at the various subD levels and should be exported back to DAZ at subD 0.

The thing you are supposed to remember is to do all your importing / exporting at subD 0 and keep polygon counts the same. I think that product is just a UI that helps enforce that requirement by doing the switch to base level (subD 0) automatically and not exporting lashes or tears. Nothing else at all it does that I saw. It's just a simplified encapsulation of the existing import/export OBJ.  You don't need it though to import any OBJ from any program into DAZ Studio.

Not only did I get on the train, but I bought V9 Pro Bundle out of the gate, which I never do, and I already bought a G9 PA product, Joe Quick's Toon Kids for G9.

I hear that the G9 head & body morph packages will be released early next week too.

Is it the Pro Bundle? I believe it's just a started bundle, which is why there's so little there. I'm very disappointed that there are just G9 Starter Essentials rather than actual G9 Essentials. Also, how do I ask this discretely: Where are the naughty bits? Victoria 9 and Arceli have gens mats, but no gens to apply them to.
Overall, I'm intrigued by the possibilities of G9, but having spent a lot of money on G8/8.1 (as well as a fair sum on G3) since I started DAZing in 2020, I'm a bit fatigued from spending. I hope some converter scripts start showing up soon. I'd rather no buy everything again for G9.

They call it an Intro bundle but for the price I paid, $78, it is very much a pro bundle in pricing if not in content.

It included products other complained about having to buy seperately, mostly makeup. The genital meshes where not included so I guess that's why some people would call this a Starter Bundle. The content included was about on par with a Starter Bundle, back when DAZ did those except this has the HD which usually is nearly as expensive as the base character. However, the HD was also included with the base standalone character.

I guess Genesis 9 makes it official. The Starter and Pro bundles that were, are no more. This has me very curious of how possible products like the Girl 9 will be handled. I bought over $125 worth of The Girl 8 products on release day and for what I got for that money it was a great bargain. No regret there at all. I am going to be very disappointed that if a "The Girl 9" is OKed as a product, it's not likely to be near as extensive or a cheap as the Girl 8.

  • Trying to convert .obj character from a video game to G8

Thank you for replying. I have a pdf with the game's EULA that I use to refer just to avoid getting myself in trouble.

The obj does not have rigging. I was wondering If there's a way to transfer rigging from a G8 character or I'd have to do it from scratch. The game is Rogue Company and the reason I'm mentioning Genesis 8 is because I saw a characer from the game as a G8F model on Deviantart.

I choose Daz over Blender because I have more assets in Daz.

  • Can't create clones of and for g9

    ... edit ...

Thank you so much for trying to help me again heartheart, I'm so grateful for that and I want it work so bad but it's too hard for me. I when you say follow the tutorial for making a clothing item of G8 I look at the tutorial you posted and I try to follow it at the same time as reading what you wrote here. You write the instructions well, the fault is mine for my low knowledge of Daz studio, the more technical stuff. I try to pose g9 as g8 and whe I do the clone I made moves with it. I hide it and unhide when finished posing the legs, save, load and when fitted the G8 to G9 the legs of the clone jumps sideways lol. So I am making a big misstake somewhere in this. I have followed tutorials before and made clones for G8 of G3 and G2 so I always use those I made instead of the normal ones. The problem is I think that I need a tutorial for the correct figures, instructions w picks like you had but for the way I want - G9 clone on G8 to use g9 outfits on G8. I loose my way when it's not the correct names, and some of what you wrote I can't find, like the reverse deformation, was that supposed to be in the transfer thing? I was not able to find it, I use 4.15, maybe they changed the names for that option in later Daz versions?. So once again; Thank you so much for your amazing patience with my questions, so very kind of you, I really appreciate it heartsmiley . But the only thing that could work for me I think is a tutorial w pictures for the clone I need, the converting of G9 clothes to G8, or a bought clone, but that seams to take time to be avaliable to purchase. You wrote very good instructions, the fault is with me, with my low experience w the very techincal side of Daz studio.

When any clothing item is exported out as .obj, it needs to be in the correct landing spot for the new clothing to be made. So the legs won't move then. Since they did move I quite possibly missed a step or confused myself [it happens, grieving set of mind these days].

And I agree, I will need to go through all the steps to be sure I am not missing one -- and I will of course make the picture tutorial of it.
Which G8 would you like in the tutorial, male or female?

Also let's take the conversation over to the new thread I will start in the Freebies section for Making Clones of G9.

Very interesting product. If you can add textures mimicking different airline interiors would be great (e.g. the one shown looks a lot like either United or British Airways. Lufthansa are a bit mor on the "just grey" mood).  Great set, so far. Looking forward to hav it released.

Will the set be capable of "Please fasten your seat belts, fold away the tray table and open the window blinds"?

Will have a preset for different airline interiors. Here is a more gray one.

Also the seats now will have a seat buckle morph so you can dial up the belt.

  • Genesis 8 or 8.1 shapes on genesis 9?

First, look up video called "Wrap3 Face transfer tutorial" on youtube by Kelvin Jin, that is what I used to figure most of the stuff out

This will show you direction I went, but I don't feel like I know enough to write a tutorial, and the results so far haven't been perfect either

Notes from what I was able to figure out:

    - UV "projections" on G9 are larger than previous gen, meaning, to make a complete texture for G9-arms you must combine G8-arms and G8-body, only both of these projected on to the new G9 mesh will cover the whole area the G9-arms from which you then extract the new texture

    - G9-head needs G8.1 face+body+ears+head+lips (and you must use appropriate U value mentioned in an earlier post on this thread)

    - G9-body ~ G8.1 body+head

    - G9-arms ~ G8.1 arms+body

    - G9-legs ~ G8.1 legs+body

    - MergeImage nodes - right and left inputs define which texture gets put on top of the other, use this to sort out overlap issues, as I said - my example tree isn't perfect, so some reordering might produce better results

    - results aren't perfect, I think a lot depends on how good the actual wrap is from one figure to the other, I used around 60 points so the meshes align better to one another, that is necessary for old textures to project on the right places on the new mesh

    - default A poses will cause issues with mouth and eyelid wrapping (even using points), I haven't had the time to try and test it with exprting eyelids half way closed and mouth slightly open - if the mesh intersects itself somewhere, that will result in incorrect texture projection and you'll have to do a lot of photoshopping to the new extracted textures

    - ear translucency (due to complexity of the wrapping) seems to be especially troublesome

    - Brush tool is a necessity to fix the autowrapping bumps all around the figure

    - like in the tutorial YT video I mentioned, I also excluded the eye sockets from the Wrap, but that resulted in the eyes grosely out of place and general eye movement problems, maybe something to do with misaligned bones (and automatic bone adjustment to mesh inside Daz doesn't help), so might need to experiment there, I think it worked better in my earlier attempts when I didn't exclude anything, but the mouth socket got so distoret that it wasn't useable in Daz, so that must be excluded, but need to play around with eyes more to figure out proper way to do that

as I said, I'm a total novice to this, so I can be doing something quite wrong, but all in all - a lot work for not nearly what I would call good end result, I also noticed some issues with mesh deformation around joints when they are at extreme adjustments suggesting more points necessary to wrap the G9 mesh on the particular G8.1 figure I used

Thank you very much for sharing the graph.  I tried to do it kinda like you have it there but also ran into seam issues but didn't think about using the brush.

Really, all I did with Hexagon was use it as a method to get the object renamed and sent right back into D/S.

You can just export the .obj [no groups] out of D/S, rename the file, import that back into D/S using Morph Loader Pro and make the morph. I like using Hexagon because it tends to be more dummy proof for me ;-)

I just tried the tutorial, using G9 when it said G8 and the other way around and I can't proceed past one step as there is no hidden clone for G9 on G8, so this is not possible for me. If someone makes a tutorial for G9 clone to G8 for use G9 clothes on G8 I will try it, othewise I will have to hope that someone will sell such a clone at some point. I'm thinking of skipping G9 altogeter, try convert my character to G9 when it becomes possible just to test, but from what I see and hear, not sure if I remember correctly but I read she has less material zones, less bones in her face, and I see for myself people making artworks w spaghetti arms, weird elbow and wrist bending and I think to myself: in what world is this a step forward?? Not for me. So when the converter for characters G8 to G9, and skin converters come I will buy it and test, but most likely I will stay on G8.1 and buy all the stuff that will be released for converting G9 stuff, all kinds, to G8.1. And hope for a better G10 w proper backwards to G8.1 also compability. And a seperate female base.

Oh yes, that would be a problem -- so we shall one make one of those next. I need to make one for all of the Genesis clans.

To make a clone for G8, follow the instructions for making a clothing item of G8 [base resolution, no geografts]. Save that [so it doesn't have to be done again]. HIDE G8, export out the clothing [it looks like default G8]. Load G9, dial in the clone for G8. Pose the legs for G8.  Import in that clothing .obj of G8, and make clothing of it for G9. "current shape" and "reverse deformations" ... hopefully it looks correct. Save the clothing. On G9, dial out G8's shape and return the pose to G9's default. HIDE everything except that G8 clothing ON G9 [should be looking like G9].  Export out that clothing of G8 looking like G9 as .obj NO groups.

Hide everything, show G8 base resolution [thoughout all of this I keep all figures at base resolution]. Using Morph Loader Pro [under Edit] bring in the G8 clothing which looks like G9. Make the morph. Be sure it's a "clone" type morph. You can dial it in to be sure it looks correct, then dial it out and save it as a morph asset. Now you have a hidden clone for G9 on G8.

I would like a morph to either be at 0 or 1.  How do I do this?

This is, what I use to do:
Create a new parameter setting it to boole. this has to happen during the setting procedure. I don't know, how to change it later.
This way your parameter has the On/off button instead of the dials.
Use your slider as a sub component to your new on/off  parameter with the ERC freeze command.
Now you can save this new parameter as a Morph Target.
You can now hide the sub component, if you like.

That doesn't explain why some of the "supported shapes" ARE included such as the Base Female and Male morphs.  Are the missing morphs going to impact Growing Up 9 and other packages?

Edit:  Confirmed in the GU9 forum that the missing morphs ARE causing an issue.  GU9 was developed with a dependancy on at least one missing morph.  As a result, an update was released there to address the missing dependancy.  I hope Daz releases the missing morphs soon so other developers' product work as advertised.

The Starter Essentials do include everything they are supposed to include.

The head and body morphs are a separate product that one can buy (when released), just like with all the previous Genesis generations.
