  • Genesis 8: Some Stats and our Thanks

    Greetings,

that's great news about Carrara 9, thank you. We thought the day would never come.

Oh come on, people. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯  Is it impossible for you to be happy, or wish well for folks who choose a different tool than you?  I own Carrara myself.  I do hope Carrara gets an update at some point; it'd be wonderful.  This isn't the venue for that.  DAZ Studio is going to be getting better, and that is great news ALSO!

I really do understand the concern...  To mangle Lion in Winter...  (Carrara will be playing the part of Prince Geoffrey, and DAZ the part of Henry II.)

Carrara: No one ever thinks of DAZ and mentions Carrara, why is that?

    DAZ: Isn't being a powerful multi-tool enough?

Carrara: It's not the power I feel deprived of; it's the mention I miss. There's no affection for me here; you wouldn't think I'd want that, would you?

In this story, I'm not sure if DAZ Studio is Prince John or Prince Richard...both have some amusing metaphors that can be drawn.

...but this thread is celebrating the success of Victoria 8 and the potential for new, cool DAZ Studio changes.  There's great things happening.  It's okay to be excited about features and products that aren't for your primary/preferred tool.

  • I really love Genesis 8!

I agree wholeheartedly with the thread's subject line. Genesis 8 is very nice. I've only loaded her up once and did a quick render but loved what I saw. And no hassles loading Genesis 3 clothing, hair or textures. I have to admit I hated Victoria 7 and any of her derivatives. They all looked the same to me and I thought it looked like a bus had run into V7's face. She was so odd and unnatural looking. Genesis 8 and V8 look much more natural. Congrats DAZ!

  • Victoria 8

Now please Zev0 release G8 Age morphs as soon as possible. I find V8 and her characters too old. I noticed that each time a new gen arrives. Does it means that Victoria 10/12 will look like a grandma ???

So for now, I skip G8 V8 etc...

  • Okay! Cry and you buy it anyway!

I love new content, I love new figures and a new figure release every 2 years seams completley reasonable to me. Somehow something has to develope. We know, there'll be a Victoria 9, we knew a Victoria 8 was about to come. G8 release ripped a hole in my wallet, but man I have fun with it.

They are visible on my computer. Please note, that eyebrows are not loaded automatically with Victoria 8.

You need to load them on Victoria 8 in your scene from the Content Library (second image).

  • How to get the new powerpose view for Victoria 8?

I have seen a couple posts and videos about powerpose for Victoria 8 with this view:

But I'm not able to get this. For me it looks like this with victoria 8:

I have downloaded the "Genesis 8 Starter Essentials" and "Genesis 8 Female PowerPose Templates" files and copied the content to my content folder. Victoria 8 is there so that did work but the powerpose part isn't available. Daz studio version is 4.9.4.117. Is there an extra step to get the new powerpose view?

  • "Brace yourself, my dear wallet! There's always another Sale - and Glitches!"

I remember that. There was a bit of fuss at the time, but obviously they've decided to stick with no bundle for the future. It really bugs me. The head and body morphs for G8 are a necessity. They're not an option like a new outfit or something. You will NEED them for characters, and you need them cos quite frankly, Genesis 8 Female is ghastly.

We had a very successful garage sale yesterday, so I actually have the funds to purchase Victoria 8 Pro bundle. I was really torn - get the Pro which could possibly net you a discount down the line when M8 or Monique or other iconics come out....or not get the Pro because I'm tired  of the "new shiny best thing" and that I kinda don't like V8 much. Her face is nice, but I don't like the eyebrows and I'm hearing that peeps aren't keen on the skin shader or her eyes. So after thinking on it overnight, I've decided to pass on V8. I'm simply not interested at this point in time. Yes, she can wear G3F clothing (except shoes) so I really don't need to start a new wardrobe for her.....so that helps. But yeah.....I'm not interested in her. It's a weird feeling to actually be able to safely afford a pro bundle even with australian currency conversion ($59US = $77AUS) and not want it. If my 10% discount for owning one previous Victoria genesis pro bundle could have been applied against JUST the Victoria 8 base, then I might be more inclinded to pick her up. But it doesn't. It only works on the pro bundle which frankly, I don't want.

I can't believe there's no bundle price for the head & body morphs and expressions for G8. I mean, if you're going to get one, you want them all. Ridiculous.

They didn't bundle the morphs for G3F or G3M, either. But I do agree with you...

I am another person pondering about whether or not to get the pro pack. I own all three previous Victoria pro packs, so I get the full additional 30% off, but I am a bit disappointed that 2 of the four outfits are SciFi, a genre I never render, and another one is an impractical fantasy armour, of which I already have many, and almost never use them. I like the V8 base, and one of the characters, but there is no additional discount for picking up individual items in the pack, only for those outside the pack.

However I will pick up the two morph packs and the expressions, which at $20 for the three is a pretty good deal, and gives me a good base for creating characters with G8.

  • Day 4 of Generation 8 and...

This one has nothing to do with Victoria 8, because I didn't bother buying her. It's Genesis 8 all the way - all I bought were the head and body morphs and the expressions. I've been putting the morphs through SimTenero's randomiser to create new shapes and then resurfacing them with SB3 textures. I've done a few of them now and there's nothing particularly special about the one pictured - I just wanted show one that uses existing stuff from a mix of previous generations.

As mentioned, it uses a Skin Builder 3 texture, and the top, hair and skirt are all Genesis 2. The shoes are Genesis, and the stockings are from a Genesis 3 product. All of this went straight on with no trouble - I did have to adjust the top a bit to fit over the skirt, but they're from two different G2 outfits and I've had to do that anyway when using the same combination on G3 and even on G2. Heels can be problematic - I've had the most success with Genesis and G3 shoes and the least with G2 in my limited experiments with them. So far, tops have needed to be of a tighter fit - there's a lot of under-boob clinging going on which shows up a mile away with anything looser fitting.

I'll probably buy her a pair of heels of her own eventually, but in the meantime I think I can get a lot out of my current G8 resources and existing content, and there's nothing at all wrong with G3, either. No rush for the shiney stuff here :)

She looks like she's 45 going on 60. Sorry I just don't get it. Enlighten me please because I am missing something here.

Um, not everyone needs a 16 year old supermodel in a sleazy outfit for their render. Some ppl like to tell a story ;). I LOVE original characters that look like real people. I LOVE this character ;).

    Laurie

Some folks have complained G4 looks too masculine, but they've obviously never met women that look like that. And, as yoi said, she looks more realistic than before.

A masculine or feminine look is characterized by certain bodily and facial traits or attributes which are intuitively recognizable in any body/face. It has nothing to do with whether the person is real or a 3D character or just a simple drawing. There is actually a science behind this but that's a long story.

  • Novica & Forum Members Tips & Product Reviews Pt 9

Wow, I'm sure this has been discussed, with the numerous Genesis 8 threads (that I am not wading through, I'd never get anything done)   But LOOK at all these new bones you can play with. So neat to see all these! If you've read about it and not seen it, here it is. Below that, the eyebrows of Victoria 8.

And here's the eyebrows for Victoria 8. (Found under anatomy)  The forums have darkened this horribly. I don't know why it does it on some pics and not on others.

  • G3M Morphs on G8F

Some tips that may help, make sure you start the process by setting gen3 female resolution level from high definition to base and subdivision level to 0 and dont forget to mark all the morphs you want to transfer on gen3 as favorites. good luck, its still working for me very well with both genesis 8 and victoria 8

Forget this thread. Today downloads going at 2.2 Mb/s instead of 23.5 kilobytes/sec.So whatever it was it seems to have been solved. Only created the thread in case it was a general Daz fault. I had thought that so many people were downloading Victoria 8 and the new Daz Studio upgrade that the system was overloaded!

  • (Commercial) Great Lashes for Genesis 8 available now!!!

Some renders showing how they look on Genesis 8

This is a great render. I really like the subtle facial expression. It's also an excellent advertisment for your product.

    Cheers,

    Alex.

Thanks so much for your comment Alex!!!! Glad you liked it!

You are most welcome.  I had a play around with  Victoria 8 yesterday. I'm not impressed by the eyelashes as supplied so your product has gone into next week's shopping list.

    Cheers,

    Alex.

ich hab ja nu G3 ausgelassen um auf ne neue Produktlinie zu warten

    spiele mit G2 im wesentlichen

sagt mir mal warum ich jetzt bei G8 zuschlagen sollte (nicht wörtlich nehmen)?

meinen persönlichen Gerschmack trifft Victoria 8 schon mal sehr

  • Victoria 8

After testing Victoria 8 for a day, I have to conclude that there really isn't enough difference between her and Victoria 7 for V8 to be called V8. More like V7.3.

We gain HD expressions. Way cool. We gain geografted eyelashes. Okay. Why? We gain a base figure who is three inches taller than V6 and V7. Isn't 5'11" tall enough? We gain a figure with a masculine face and one hell of an ugly mouth. Well, I fought V7's ugly mouth, but I don't want to do it again. We gain a more primitive mesh that is even further removed from natural human topology than V7.

    And I can't convert my custom V7 characters to V8 without major effort. A 22 year old V7 looks 40 in V8.

So, I dropped $40 on an experiment. It was money well spent, really. It told me to wait for Victoria 9. Hey, I bought a Hyundai in 1986! I'm 6'4". You do the math on that. I've spent more on less.

Where to start with untangling this. Oy! First, V8 is a definite step forward and more than worthy of it's own figure line. The bends are much better, muscles follow the pose shape better, skin texture improvement, anatomy improvment, the skin actually moves with the expressions, improved eyes, nails, and feet, etc.

Second, converting characters from V7 to V8 is suprisingly easy. Redz has a tutorial on how to do it and made a post on how to do it here on the forum - and it's pretty fast and painless.

Third, "masculine face and one hell of an ugly mouth" I totally disagree. I think she's quite lovely and a lot more realistic looking than some of the past Victorias which trend to have unnaturally large eyes and faces that are too artificial looking. We still have a ways to go to hit total photo-realism, of course, but V8 is definitely a step forward.

Really, Diva? I'm with Nathanomir on this one. I think there is a stiking resemblance between a certain Ms Versace and V8 at least before the cosmetic surgery (see attached pic). However, I accept that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Nevertheless, I think that the majority of people would agree that V8 has a significantly masculine face structure.

  • First real attempt at this DAZStudio thingy...

That looks really good, and far far better than my first renders.  I recommend you join pc+ if you plan on doing a lot of shopping.  It comes with weekly freebies, coupons, and a boatload of lower priced items.

Thanks! I credit the absurd hours I've put into character creation tools in various games over the years; especially Eve Online's. I always immediately go for a smirking expression.
Thanks for the tip, as well! I'm kinda deciding which way I want to go in terms of which generation/model to invest in. With 8 just out the door, that could be a good choice, but then there's not a whole lot available for it, just yet. Genesis 3 seems to get some fantastic results just based on what little I've done with this image here, and I think a couple iterations of Michael/Victoria are based on G3? Still wrapping my head around the different generations/characters and what their various pros/cons are. It's a heck of a ool to dive into.
BTW: I'm assuming your avatar is something you did in DAZ? Looks great!
    Anyway, thanks again!
