No Genesis 8 Male?
I really like the base G8F. V8 is a bit on the masculine side...still a good character, just not what I consider a successor for Victoria. Of course, I felt the same about Aiko 7. She went from being an anime style teenish character to just a sort of exaggerated realistic female. I guess it's a lot like the car companies do...just retain the name even if the model is entirely different.

giving upI don't start from scratch; I start with the basic file structure DAZ already uses. It goes: My DAZ 3D Library/Animals (/Environments) (/Light Presets) (/People) (/Props) (Render Presets) (/Shader Presets) etc. There are others in there too, but DIM will install all content in that directory. But it will do so in the way that the vendors packaged it, and therein lies the rub. Most vendors try to do things more or less the same way. Some don't. Others try but fall short. Others do it the way the've always done it since Poser was new, before DAZ spun off on its own. If the Vendor misspells a directory like People/Genesis 3 Female(s) instead of the proper Genesis 3 Female, then DIM will create the parallel directory just like it was told. And then you, the user, have to know that if you're looking for this specific item, it'll be in its own misspelled file path. It happens. Plus, vendors add many layers of unnecessary subdirectories. For example, they tend to organize their packages by Vendor name so that all their products are together. It makes perfect sense if you're a vendor - but it doesn't work for me as a user. If I'm looking for a clothing outfit, I expect to find it under the name of the clothing outfit, not under the name of the vendor that I might or might not have noticed when I bought it. So instead of My DAZ 3D Library/People/Genesis 3 Female/Clothing/Vendor/Clothing Item/Materials/Iray (and possibly other extra subdirectories like Props with ITS own Materials folder with nothing but Iray and 3Delight folders in THAT), I simplify it. My DAZ 3D Library/People/Genesis 3 Female/Clothing/Clothing Item Vendor Name File Type (if obj or cr2 or pp2)/Iray. I do the same for all the directories I use, like /Environments and /Shader Presets (which is the same as the older /Shaders, so I combined the two). /Props was particularly cumbersome. And yes, I had to reconstruct my entire library for that to work. A few days of effort for me, but you know what? I haven't lost ANYTHING since. Not once. Whereas before, I never knew where even to LOOK. And Smart Content was no help. Frustrating in the extreme.
I also didn't know, that half the things I was accumulating were either obsolete but still importable (like .cr2), incompatible with DAZ (like .3ds), designed for obsolete figures like Dawn, Dusk, and Victoria 4, or usable by import only (like .obj). No wonder I couldn't find anything. But not having that problem every time I go looking for a prop I know I have but can't find allows me time to learn how to use DAZ for real. And that's worth a lot. Does that make sense?
No Genesis 8 Male? He's already out!

Haha! Exactly what I was thinking. Pretty disappointed (so far) with the 8 female. Waay to masculine for my liking but will be interested to see what the developers do to enhance.

Happy Renders to you

Just did a render with the elf head...wow...very cool...a nice departure from the faery look. She still has some of the pixie thing going on...but I know this sounds silly....more "realistic" in a way...or possibly, like her own race, rather than just a young girl with pointy ears. She's pretty...But, it's her own pretty...if that makes any sense.

Great image. I have that character as well and agree....she is different. :) Right now all the characters (except Benita) seem to have the "Genesis 8/Victoria 8 flavor" to them. I can look at them as immediately tell they are Genesis 8. I have been using Daz Studio for over a decade....(version 1.3)....I am really impressed when someone can come up with a more unique character.
Didn't they say Genesis 8 moves much better than the previous versions? The other alternative is to include everything and charge five times as much.
You guys would totally be willing to buy Victoria 8 base for $400, right?
Opening A store at Daz 3Dthanks to Richard, SpottedKitty and SickleYield.
ok so i guess i will just have to do at least the victoria 8 then i will try to send and see what the Daz team requests. Yes i watched that video and i will be following step by step until i get a hang of it all, althogh it will be more complicated for me as that shoe is super simple.
I don't understand about putting the feet together yet but i'm sure it will become clear once i have started.
I also worked out that i will first have to invest some money in buying the assets for my renders, victoria 8 model + some outfits, hair and a set of lighting. I saw a tutorial that advised layton hair for a start up. Can anyone advise a bacground / ligthing that is easy to use?
Or even better a file thats already setup correctly?
Ty :)
Opening A store at Daz 3DHi!
I offered them a clothing set that was accepted recently for Genesis 8. Daz is going to require that you support not just the base figure, but all of the Real World heading body morphs (Heavy, Fitness, etc.) plus VIctoria 8 (they sent my product back repeatedly until I did custom morph support for all of these). Supporting Olympia is also recommended. Making morphs/fits for these can be a little tedious but it's not a long part of the rigging process compared to others.
You might be able to convince them to take a Genesis 3 product if it's awesome enough, but that's tapering now; it's going to be very hard to get anything prior to that accepted.
Here's approximately what you're likely to need to do to rig shoes.
Genesis 8 has her feet apart in base pose, so you're probably going to need the extra step of putting her feet together to do the base model on before you do this process.
Iso free stuff for G8F and G8M!Good news I hope I got DS running on my old netbook which might mean a Genesis 8 female render on the way. Now I am upset I returned Victoria 8, but will wait till I can get her pro bundle. Is it still true got to get the pro bundle to get her something?
If by "something" you mean the "anatomical elements"... Yes. You still need to get the pro bundle for those. If G8 is like the previous generations, though, it doesn't have to be V8. All the adult females should have her "something"...
Opening A store at Daz 3D- I see some shoes are made to fit a long list of models while others are made only for victoria 8Any clothes (or clothes-like) item made to fit a Genesis 8 character should be made first to fit the base G8 figure. Fits for other characters will be automatically generated if you don't add them yourself, but there's no guarantee this auto-fit will be exactly what you have in mind. Adding custom fits for characters will produce exactly the look you want, but note that it's impractical to include fits for every character that's out there.
[Released] Pose Blender [Commercial]
Pose Blender is a set of scripts for creating new poses by blending poses, or parts of poses, quickly and easily. Don't just combine poses, blend them! Pose Blender has been designed to work with almost any character or figure... from Victoria 4 to Genesis 8, from Horse to Dragon, male or female... anything with bones!Pose Blender works by allowing you to blend poses and body parts. You don't just copy an arm pose from one pose and a leg pose from another pose (though you can do that too). Rather, you can create a unique new arm pose by making a blend of the arm between one pose's arm and another pose's arm. You choose how much to blend from each pose. Now with Pose Blender you can "kitbash" your poses just like you have been doing with your clothes products. Quickly and professionally expand your pose library by using Pose Blender!
Features
- Supports anything with bones... from Victoria 4 to Genesis 8, from Horse to Dragon, male or female
- Pose Blender - Quickly blend poses using the entire figure or selected bone hierarchy subtrees
- Selective Pose Blender - Selectively blend poses for parts of the body. This script has been specifically designed to work with Genesis, Genesis 2, Genesis 3, and Genesis 8 characters, male or female
- Settings are automatically saved and restored
No poses are included with the package.
For more information, you can look at the manual.
Note: You may get an error on trying to start the Pose Blender script when you run it from an earlier version of Daz Studio. This is because I mistakenly encrypted the Pose Blender scripts with v4.9.4.117 (or thereabouts), which requires you to use Pose Blender with v4.9.4.117 or later. I am submitting updates for Pose Blender encrypted for v4.9.3.166, which will allow it to work with v4.9.3.166 or later. In the meantime, if you PM me and provide your receipt and an email address, I will send you an updated version right now. I apologize for any inconvenience.
Victoria 8 and Carrara 8.5Now I wish I did not return Victoria 8 but it is too late now. Will she be included in the PC sale or is that too soon?

Toon Generations Clothing CompatabilityStrictly, without buying other products, any Generation 3 Male clothing fits to Toon Generations 2 Male and any Generation 3 Female clothing fits to Toon Generations 2 Female.
I have bought DAZ's Cross-Figure for Genesis 3 clothing product and that allows the Genesis 3 Males and the Genesis 3 Females to wear each others' clothing.
For them to wear Genesis 2 Male, Genesis 2 Female, Genesis, or even Victoria 4 or Michael 4 clothing you could buy the entire suite of a product like 'Wear Them All' (there are other products too that do that) or you can search the internet and find the tutorial on how to do that yourself (which is possible otherwise the product authors would not have been able to make their products). I chose to buy the Wear Them All (and several other products within reason) instead of manually converting all the clothing one generation at a time until I got to the newest generation. Look for SickleYield tutorials on how to do that if you like.
July 2017 - Daz 3D New User Challenge - Portrait RenderingHello all you guys!
So i was playing around with DS this evening and thought i'd make a contribution to the new user challenge. I've been using DS for a couple of months, and needless to say i am still learning and honing my skills. At the moment i'm away from my main rig, so i decided to do some rendering on my laptop. Iray renders were out of the question (business laptop), so i decided to play around with 3Delight. I'm positively surprised with how capable 3Delight actually is. This is what i came up with.
"Cosmic Spin"
Software used: DAZ 3D Studio 4.9. Model: Victoria 7 with Adriana hair for G3F by Wolfie. All of her clothing is from Little Secret II for G3F by Pretty 3D.
My idea with the render was to capture a clockwise spinning/dancing motion that slows down throghout the image series, and something that also gives the image noticable depth (love working with DOF!). I made 6 renders in total and included 2 of them here in the contest.
Really happy with this new found hobby; finally i can release my creativity through something. Any and all unput much appriceated!
Gorgeous work! I love the lighting, and the colours!
~Wolfie~Opening A store at Daz 3DMake the shoes for Genesis 8 Female, optionally add morphs for one or more iconic shapes (Victoria 8, Olympia 8, and whatever are still to come).
Opening A store at Daz 3DOk so say i work on Genesis 8 models :
- What are the most popular characters?
- I see some shoes are made to fit a long list of models while others are made only for victoria 8, what would you advise?
- With the different characters do the bones have different coordinates and weights?- Do some of the models have the same bones coordinates and weights?
Trying to understand the workflow and the time involved.
A Plea for Open-Source CarraraActually given what they did to Carrara with regards to updates four years ago means the software probably is in good shape. It might not work good on my computer (2000+ DAZ products too much for it?) but I can see it is mostly top flight. Those that speculating that Carrara has licensed a bunch of 3rd party source code and libraries: are they that sure that is actually the case? If Carrara were just a glue job then it'd be even easier to keep updated because there would be much less they could update and the licensors would be doing the the lion's share of updates anyway.
This thread is speculation so I'll have a go at it, if DAZ 3D doesn't make an update to Carrara or an integration of it into DAZ Studio in the 2nd half of the year I'd consider Carrara done for, especially given the 59% enhanced sales of the Genesis 8 Victoria 8 compared to the Genesis 3 Victoria 7. The tools DAZ 3D have are on the cusp to being what hobby animators and game makers would like to have and be a good permanent advertising presence everytime those hobbyists make an animation or game to sell new art content for those tools and their hobby but DAZ 3D has the sales data. If these forums and forums elsewhere are a good indicator definately DAZ 3D, Morph 3D, and Poser as well as Fuse have seen huge increases of hobbyist/moonlighter customers using and buying content for those products. Sorry, those that have been with these products for 10 and 20 years doing graphic novels, comics, and art still commissions, but that is where the market growth is and anyway it's not like any of those products will loose those capabilities that could do that to begin with. Blender is fast becoming easier and more capable so there is room for competiton but Blender doesn't have the massive libraries of premade content at affordable prices.
Could someone discuss the nature of Fibermesh hair please ?And to be effective it needs to be dense; something like eyebrows are not so bad; even so, consider Lacitis Imagary eyebrows (which I have been using for two or so years) have 31,000 vertices.
It may or may not seem like a lot, depending on your experience and viewpoint; but consider G3 and G8 females, they both have around the 16,000 mark for vertices. Victoria 4 iirc had about 100,000.
I rarely use a figure without them.
