Were I as talented as some of you are at tweaking skin shader settings, then I might hold a different opinion; however, the smooth complexions of Victoria & Stephanie, combined with the unusability of Olympia leave me thoroughly underwhelmed about G8F (though Teen Josie was exactly what I would expect from Thorne). Michael 8 was OK, but Lucas is a continuation of the detail-lacking trend of Victoria & Stephanie. I've bought all the G8 Pro Bundles so far, but if the next DO Core release is not a character-filled morph with a top notch skin, I'll have to pass.

If they stop making wax skins, then I'd like to see Kimo 8 or Carlos 8 soon, with an expedited Darius and Monique.

Use the translucency presets that come with the characters to turn the translucency down (Generally named "Translucency Medium") it will make your skin look a bunch better IMO, render 3 times faster, cure any diseases you might have, and water your crops.

Seriously, I do not understand why TPTB didn't make a lower translucency strength the default

compare  Lucas vs Lucas with "Translucency Medium" preset, both with the same neutral lighting and rendered for 5 minutes. you'll note one is signifigantly less orange and grainy

Yes, I really hope she has a different look then those 3! I got all of the Gen8 pro packs so far but more because of the outfits. The Olympia 8 character is the most dissapointing one for me so far. But Monique 6 and 7 were nice, so there's hope...

On the other hand I don't use base characters and I'm happy with Genesis 8 and the available morphs, it just requires some tweaking. And Monique will add new interesting possibilities to the gen pool. Every Genesis generation has its own advantages to me.

I still love the genesis 2 Characters. I've only just bought into the Gen 3 line, but I still haven't used any of them yet. In fact the last few images I created used Gen 1. 

when you say bases, are you talking about gen 2 base or  Michael 6 and Victoria 6?. if you haven't got those, then definitely look at getting them. ithe skin textures etc are much better than the base figures, so thats another must have. 

With platinum club, you can usually get the Pro version for even less than the Std.  Get the Pro version for sure.

Sadly I didn't renew my Plat.  Maybe one day soon I will get back on it.

Just checked and right this moment the cost of Carrara 8.5 pro is $19.50 if you have Platinum Club, while the Plat club price for Carrara Std is $44.99 .   So if you spent $24.00 to join the Platinum Club  only for this one purchase, the total cost for the Pro version would be $43.50.   I realize that there's a current sale on for Carrara 8.5 to be 50% off even for those who don't have Platinum Club, but  under that scenario the cost for Pro would be $142.50 and the Std version would be $74.98, which makes no logical sense for anyone sane to buy it that way.  So what I'm saying is if you're going to pick up Carrara, you should also purchase the quarterly Platinum Club too, to drastically lower the cost, and at that point the Pro version is dramatically less expensive than the Std version.  

Plat club quarterly is not automatically renewing or anything, so it's a nice thing to have around for a little while in case there's any other things that pop up in the Daz store you might want to get at discount, and 3 months later just let it expire itself. 

So if I do Plat for one quarter, then buy Carrara Pro, total cost is only 43.50?  That is a heck of a deal.  Think I might need to jump on that!

Pleasure. Here's another one- I had both on my wishlist and just took the first one that came on sale. 

I don't know how long you've been with us, but just a heads up if you are thinking of moving to Michael 7 and Victoria 7, this is probably a good opportuinity. Those prices are about as low as they get, and you may have to wait a while for them to get that low again. 

I'm not really looking forward to any "new" figures. They are kind of pointless to me. Except for Victoria, Michael, Aiko and maybe The Girl they only rarely have any characters released that need them except when they first come out. If they aren't being used as "base" figures they are pretty much just very highly priced ordinary characters. And then they want you to buy the HD pack for even more money. At least when they first came out with HD addons they gave you a nice high-quality skin to go with it. Now you just pay a high price for a morph pack that doesn't mix that well with other figures and morphs. I didn't even buy M7 until I got it at a big discount when I bought Darius. And I only bought Darius because I really liked his materials.

I always loved the troll but looking at both figures sanding next to each other it just looks amazing! can't stop thinking of a script for a movie having both figures.

For characters choose a generation. I would go with genesis 3. 

with the platinum club discount you can then get victoria 7 and Michael 7 for about $5 each. 

with everything added in your cart get the genesis 3 morphs- face and body for 80% off. Expression is also a good one to use as a starting point. Male and female sold separately. 

If you can look out for an Iray skin shader just to make you life easier and to get great results.  NGS anagenesis is pretty good to look out for. It was on sale a few days ago.

Then look out for other characters, hair etc.

1st question would be, do you need the clones, an example of steampunk fitted to genesis with the basic female shape..... try it and see if it works for you before any more spending

Slight poke-throughs may be corrected with the smoothing modifier....(if the morphs included in the outift don't do the job good enough, remember, an autofitted outfit is never as good compared to the figure (victoria 4 in this case) it was designed for....)

Probably start with Gen 8.  I decked out the G3F and I am sticking with her for a bit.  But if My closet was bare, I'd take Gen 8. Since my G3F has add-ons that let me use cheap V4 stuff from platinum club, I am keeping with that for now.  The only reason to go with G3 is add-ons are already out and a few things have yet to be done for gen 8.  Gen 8 has some cool add-ons for fitting items from Sickleyeild that I really will enjoy when I move up to Gen 8. Platinum club membership is a must have thing for saving money and making this hobby affordable. Join platinum club first, then start getting morphs and Gen 8 stuff.  If I were shopping today, I'd join the platinum club, then come back and I'd get the 200plus head morphs that are on sale for both male and female, the gen 8 head and body morphs and expressions that are on sale and you'll be off to a great start with Gen 8.  Pro pack Micheal 8 and Victoria 8 are on sale as well with additional clones for fittings I think.  Things go onsale here a lot.  Buy when things are on a good sale.  Build a wishlist and check it often and 50% to 70% off does happen.  I broke down and got light sets for 47% off, I figured close enough.  The old V4 items are very dated, I have to fit them and redo the textures and add new shaders for iray and that is costly in itself.  But the genesis items are better and it sometimes pays to get quality items and use the platinum club artist coupons.

Thank you guys!  where can i buy the clones?  Leana - i am happy to do the multiple step thing, can you point me in the right direction of HOW to do that?  Also, would i be better off just buying Stephanie 4 for Genesis and skipping victoria?

Stephanie 4 is an add-on for V4, so yes if you don't have V4 base it won't work. You can find Victoria 4.2 base in the store here.

As for using the outfit on a Genesis figure, you would need to use autofit to try to convert it. Genesis 1 has a clone for V4 included, for G2F and newer you would need to either purchase a clone for that or do multiple steps (V4 to G1 then G1 to G2F and so on)

Stephanie 4 is a morph from Victoria 4, so you do need to have Victoria 4 on the computer in order to use Steph 4   https://www.daz3d.com/victoria-4-2-base

And how would products like Ultimate Make-Up work around fitting on characters with different MATs?

When i try to cross-fit make-up between Elizabeth and Victoria i currently get results like these, is there an easy way to make the seams go away?
