No, Michael 4 (and the other fourth generation figures, or other figures usingf the ExP system) cannot be installed via Connect - uninstall that version and the DIM version should then work.

I have attempted installation through two methods (and please pardon my vocabulary as it has been years since I have used the software and products):

1) Connect > Logged In, Content Library > Michael 4 Base (also Michael 4 Pro Bundle) > Right-Click > Install (Screenshot on Google Drive is here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1SGGfdlHSBrm0SjWOI5ccfIcUPV5WoleI/view?usp=sharing )

2) DAZ Install Manager  (64-bit) 1.2.0.6. (Note: A new path to the installation directory was added to the desired content area.)

The supporting products install, such as poses and maps, it's just the base that is not installing.

I'm on a Windows machine running Windows 10, most current version with all updates.

UPDATE:

Currently scanning all drives to determine if it installed elsewhere. Update to follow.

- Submitted report to Tech Support. Inspected manual downloads of M4 base & pro bundle. Files are missing in the pro bundle. Not sure about the M4 base issue, will resolve with tech support.

You don't need to match the shape to use Michael 4 content on a Genesis, you just need an AutoFit clone. Genesis has a Micahel 4 clone, and Genesis 8 Male has a Genesis clone, so what you can do is fit the Michael 4 item to Genesis, selecting Michael 4 as the original figure, then fit that to Genesis 8 Male, selecting Genesis as the original figure. This does remove any custom bones, and may produce unwanted distortion, but in most cases it works well.

However, you certainly should be able to install Michael 4 in the current version of DS. How are you installing, and where are you looking for the figure?

Hello everyone. It's been 4+ years since I have played around with DAZ Studio and any other graphics programs. I'm very pleased with the improvements in the software and the new products.

Most of my products are around the Michael / Victoria 4 era.

I've been looking for body morphs to allow Genesis 8 to match Michael 4, but have not found what I'm seeking.

My goal is to conform my existing Michael / Victoria 4 skeletons to Genesis 8 as it seems I am unable to install the Michael 4 base (it's in my Content Library window, but will not install).

Probably way TMI, but:

The problem with previous gernations was that they rapidly ran out of free slots, and that different sets used the same slot which limited mix-and-matching. Several big morph expansions for Victoria 3 and Michael 3 each came with their own figure file (CR2) which supported the base morphs plus that expansion set, but of course that made it very difficult to mix morphs from two different sets.

The solution found for Victoria 4 and Michael 4 was ExP - essentially, when you loaded a figure (from the base file) it read in a series of pose files which themselves contained a list of pose files for each morph expansion, and those files in turn created the channels, grouped them, and set up the links. The CreateExPFiles utility read through the folders with all the pose files for the different morph sets installed and built the index files read in by the base figure (which is why all the expansions have to be in the same content directory).

PowerLoader does much the same, but it does it live (allowing switchign morph sets in and out), it can give a more desciptive name and icon than the bare product code, and doesn't require a separate step to actually inject the morphs into the figure. it's also possible to rerun the tool to add new morph sets to a loaded figure, unlike the plain version which has no way of updating a figure that has been loaded.

Yes, there can be only one Connect directory - but if you set a previous connect diectory as a regular Daz studio content diectory the content will still load. The Connect diectory is the oen isntalled to, and that does need to be unique at any given time.

The fourth generation daz figuers, and others using the ExP system, cannot at this tiem be isntalled via Connect. You need to isntall the base figure (Victoria 4 or Michael 4 as the case may be) and all ExP add-ons (such as Aiko 4 or the Victoria 4 head and body moprhs) to the same content directory, and if you don't use the PowerLoader script (which gives a dialogue on loading) you need to run the /Runtime/Libraries/!DAZ/CreateExPFiles-v4 file for your system to add the new morphs. Clothing, hair and so on isn't subject to this requirement (unless it includes a morph for the base figure too).

What is the picture showing? All I can see is a missing thumbnail, which may be down to the Daz side.

Do note that the Victoria 4 and Michael 4 base figures and morphs cannot be installed via Connect as they need to end up in exactly the same folder for the ExP system (used for adding and loading morphs) to work.

I used Daz Studio in its 4.6 version at the latest and coming back, it's now 4.10, I am lost at the ways to install content now. Between Daz Connect, Daz Installer, and manual download, I'm trying all three methods, but some of my products still won't install.

Joint a picture of what goes wrong.

"Bhaarat main chaahata hoon ki aap ab slej le jaen, mera haath dard hota hai!" ("Bharat I want you to carry the sledge now, my hand hurts!") Now she only needs snow, that's all... So let it snow! Gabriella was a little surprised seeing her carrying the sledge, why isn't that guy doing that for her? Even the little robin was surprised, "there is still no snow at all you silly human!?" As a general rule, despire all the great converters and helpful assets we have to make older clothes and such work on newer characters, as a general rule clothing will pretty much always work best for the figure it was created for. The drawback being two-fold.

1. As you point out you might not have that figure and need to acquire it.
2. Daz continues to advance their figures. For the most part each generation improved in some way over the previous one. Going back to Michael 4 you may find that the posing and textures and such feel antiquated compared to working with Genesis 3 or 8 based figures.

That said, I've used some of the tools and processes Richard and Leana suggested and they can produce acceptable results, but they still rely on having a good quality clothing product to start with; so your mileage may vary with any particular outfit.

You can also do the conversion in one step from M4 to G2M if you're willing to spend a bit of money: this product gives you the required autofit clone https://www.daz3d.com/michael-4-for-genesis-2-male (and also UVs to let G2M use M4 textures)

You can use AutoFit to convert the clothes to Genesis, by fittign them and selecting Michael 4 as the original figure, then fit those to Michael 6 (which is Genesis 2 Male) and select Genesis as the original figure. That isn't perfect, but may give better results.

The tale:

Extra, extra, read all about it! The New York Times headline on Dec 23 2018 screams: "LET IT SNOW !!!  POSSIBLE LAST WHITE CHRISTMAS BECAUSE OF GLOBAL WARMING? PRESIDENT SAYS: NO WAY!"
Anaya who's from India (of a very high caste, almost a princess) emigrated to the US in august of this year and she never rode a sledge before in her entire life so she and her servant Bharat (who is originally from Pakistan) went out to buy one and for some reason they are on sale now 50% off of the classic model, that's great! "Bhaarat main chaahata hoon ki aap ab slej le jaen, mera haath dard hota hai!" ("Bharat I want you to carry the sledge now, my hand hurts!") Now she only needs snow, that's all... So let it snow! Gabriella was a little surprised seeing her carrying the sledge, why isn't that guy doing that for her? Even the little robin was surprised, "there is still no snow at all you silly human!?" Will it be forever autumn now?

Ah ok thank you much i will do that soon. However I do have a question that is rather frustrating me. I had gotten some weapon packs alittle while ago in the beginning, One was defently my bad because in the beginning I was not paying attention to the fact it said "victoria 4 michael 4" Now the other bundle I got did not say anything other thhan daz 4.10 and seems to have the right ingredients

So I take it I waisted the money on these packs? because I cannot seem to parent any of the weapons to 8 female. they just go in the middle of her no matter if i parent or add or apply or anything.? or is theiranother way to get around this that I do not know?.

Welcome back to the band wagon.  

Good news and bad news. 

Bad news first.    Daz's customer service has reportedly told people that Daz does not have the resources to support further development of Carrara at this time, and reportedly Daz has encouraged vendors who had created content that is Carrara-only (landscape sets that use Carrara replicated plants, hair products that use Carrara's strand-based dynamics, etc.) to create content for Studio instead.  Daz is not currently updating Carrara to take advantage of the newest figure rigging and high definition morphs.   

Good news.    Incredibly talented Carrara folks have continued to make Carrara a better-and-better creative program.  First, Mystara has identified some of the issues that have obstructed use of newer figure rigging in Carrara. If you go to that other site that rhymes with monstrosity, you wil find free G8F and G8M character sets by Misty that allow the Genesis 8 figure meshes to be used in Carrara.  G8M and G8F content in the Daz store can be used in Carrara with Misty's G8 characters if the items are converted to "blended" rigging (just a one step process).  Similarly, Misty created characters for Genesis 3 figures.  Those cost a nominal fee, but are well wrth it if you wish to use G3 content in Carrara.

Second,   the plugin folks continue to add functionality to Carrara. An example includes a plugin to add dynamic draping to Carrara (VWD by Gerald can be used with a Carrara plugin bridge by Philemo).  Again, see that other site that rhymes with monstrosity.  Several incredible new plugins are free!    Other free plugins include a shader randomizer for replicated objects, a fluid simulation plugin (FLUIDOS), a hair-to-mesh plugin, a phong plugin to improve bump to displacement, and more.  A couple are Windows.

Regarding content, my primary generation is genesis 2.  I have to do some minimal adjustment to shaders, but the G2 stuff works very well in Carrara.  I know that several other people have built large libraries of Victoria 4 / Michael 4 content and continue to use those.  UnifiedBrain even entered a Victoria 1 image in a recent challenge, and it was most excellent.  EDIT:  SteveK enters 48 hour film festivals relying on Carrara and his library of V4/M4 content.

Is there anyone not owning Michael 4 and Victoria 4.2? They are free together with a Debut new release purchase!

I had to wonder that myself.  I mean, didn't these come with every version of Daz Studio?  Maybe I've just forgotten.

Both Micheal 4 and Victoria 4 were given away as freebies multiple times already either as a standalone or with their bundles.

I was sure that Victoria 4.2 and Michael 4.0 were included in the basic Daz Studio bundle when I first downloaded.  I thought that they were considered to be Base figures...like Genesis, G2, G3, G8.  Maybe that's not the case anymore now that we're up to G8.

 

I have a message banner offering me 10% off a Debut New Release today for owning them. "Michael and Victoria want you to save" which I thought was cute. I will have to see if I want any of them.

And yes, Michael & Victoria were the base figures. I don't recall if they were bundled with DS2-3, but I believe all the named base characters (Aiko, Hiro, David, Luke & Laura, etc) were offered free to buy separately, either all or nearly all the time, up until sometime around the Genesis (1) release.
