  • "Get Them While You Can!" If Not… Well… "There's Always Another Sale™"

Hmm, today's promo doesn't suit me since I don't buy starter bundles.

Speaking of starter bundles, can you ask the sales department to flag them as purchased if you already own the corresponding pro bundle?

The starter bundle and it's parts should show as purchased on their respective pages. Also, if I've purchased and try to purchase, trying to add to the cart, takes me to my Product Library.

That's not how I'm seeing it at the store. All starter bundles (eg. Victoria 4.2,5,6,7,8) are not flagged as puchased. Same thing happens to special bundles whose contents I bought individually during sales. I know these products have different SKUs but it would be great if they "disappear" from lists and search results.

  • How To Save Just the Head/Face as a SHAPE to the library?

Save as shaping preset.  From the popup dialog, unselect the figure and then only select actor -> head.  You may have problems if you have certain full body morphs active.  Like "Victoria 7".  It's better to apply those morphs separately.  E.g.,  "Victoria 7 head" and "Victoria 7 body".

Have a look at this thread that we started on her release. Gogger did the most amazing render using her skin on Victoria 8 base. https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/3006906

I did a totally crappy one further on LOL that has candy mixed in low levels with other characters and using the skin.

The other really really good dark skin I have is Candy  for G8 - I was REALLY impressed with her. Her skin is fantastic - one of the best i've seen. Her full look is a little too stylized for me - but she works well in smaller doses, but yeah, that skin is what I bought her for. I want more diverse skins on the bases - THAT will be what makes me actually buy into the G8 line. Cos so far, I disllike them all but Monique.

Do you have any renders with candy in another shape? I'd be interested to see what she looks like on a non cartooney body, that skin looks awesome!

One new pack in the store. These will work with Victoria 8/Genesis 8, and there are more videos on their YouTube channel showing more packs coming. They look good!

  • RRRR - What can go wrong? Render Contest

This is my first attemp ever.  I used:

    -    Myrddin Outfit for Genesis 3 Male(s)
    -    Spanish Rose -- Chalet de Sevilla
    -    FWSA Hannah HD for Victoria 7
    -    Hervor

    The Surprise

Her father wrote that he was bringing a surprise back from his journey.  She was stunned when he said, "Meet your new Stepmother... and Stepsisters".

Good question. I actually can't think of any explicitly Hispanic G3 character. FWSA Oscar's pretty good. But thank Saiyaness for Benita! Obviously, I'm greedy and I want more!

    Yours?

Samanyo. Cathy. Anna. Laura. P3D Caro. P3D Adele. And Ophelia 7 is Latina even if they don't tell you: Just render her for yourself, and you'll see. Or maybe Filipina :)

I thought Sunny was Hispanic. And to me Charlotte actually looks like an Hispanic mix...

Sunny reminded me of a Thornesque Kim Kardashian; so, Armenia in the ho-ow-ouse! EDIT: Ooops! I was thinking of Izabella.

And I agree: Charlotte & Marieke are Hispanic the moment they say, "Buenos dias!"

I thought one could for the most part make ethnic skins with skin builder pro. No?

Not as convincingly as I had hoped.

It makes me sad that I work in a medium where the human form could quite literally be redefined yet all I see being pumped out is bland Caucasian ladies. Thank god I didn't have to wait any longer for Darius and Monique.

I actually thought today might be the release for Mei Lin 8, so I was quite disappointed. While obviously we can customize our own characters, it would be great to have more diverse "base" characters. How about a slimmer black man like our last US President? How about Southeast Asians? Middle-Easterners? North Africans? Middle and South Americans? Lots of other diverse groups to choose from, as well as diversity within the general "black" or "Asian" group. Kimo and Kalea were quite cool, for example. More of that, please. And would love more fantasy/scifi bundles that aren't just the same variants of vampire, zombie, demon, etc. (e.g., Centaur was also pretty cool).

5 minutes before reading this post I was looking at a photo of the Hawaiian queen, Lilioukalani. I find her to be interesting looking and was wishing I could make someone with her look. I am new to Daz so I do not have the knowledge base that you all have. My first impression is that it's lots and lots of pretty, thin, white girls... So thank you for your wish of diversity.

You know, there are lots of white girls in the entire Daz store.  But as far as the Daz Base Characters go, there is a fair amount of diversity.  All you have to do is look down the major character list to find representatives of most ethnicities.  Maybe you'd like to see more ethnic representatives from PAs.  But, the base characters are pretty diverse.  Also, I think that Marika is Latina and Aisling appears to be Eastern European.

It's not that there is no diversity, but I out of the first five G8 female releases, do four of them need to be white? And even with G3 bases, most of them were white.

Just finished watching MTV's latest season of Are You the One (not counting the reunion shows). That cast is more or less what I'd like to see reflected in the characters here (well, could use more Asians, but I'm biased).

Well, I suppose you're right about the order of character releases.  I mean, Victoria obviously represents English Caucasian, Stephanie is the All American Girl, Olympia is Greek, Monique is African American, Josie is clearly supposed to be the teen representative and is clearly caucasian.  Lucas and Michael are both straight up white guys.  Darius is the male Afro American.  And now, Charlotte is perhaps, the British Teen to Twenty - but with lots of ethnic addon characters.

Personally, I could care less about the order that the ethnic figures are released in, simply because I usually create my own characters as needed.  And, I have a huge runtime full of every ethnicity for G3.  But, I can see how you might want to speed things up if you are waiting on a particular ethnic character.

Just by tradition, I will always expect Victoria to be the first release of any new generation - along with Michael as her counterpart.  I don't think of this as a political statement as much as following a long time tradition.  The original Victoria was the "every woman" base character.  So, it was the mesh object and rigging that was important, not the perceived ethnicity - which could be changed by artists and end users as needed.  Back in the very early Poser days, you didn't have specific races of base character, but rather a set of morph dials that you could alter race features, and then set the skin tone to approximate what you were after.  It's with the advent of "Base Characters" that Daz has opted to make representatives of most general ethnicities.  I don't know how much this has to do with racial equality, or simply, marketing to cover a more diverse user group.  For whatever reason, I think Daz does a pretty good job of making sure there is enough racial variety to cover the broad ranges.

If I have any slight criticism of the base characters, it's usually that I find them a bit bland and without a lot of personality.  This is silly on my part, though.  Because the base character should probably be designed for expandibility and adaptation rather than uniqueness.

Sorry, that was the long way round....  I do see your point.  I can't say I think it's really a big deal, since more base characters will soon follow...I'm guessing Mei Lin will be up soon...or Aiko.  Charlotte was a surprise.  But hey, I always look forward to the Asian characters as well. :)

BTW...Who do you think among the Gen3 characters best represented the Hispanic races?

    Outré Limits said:

She's a welcome addition to Genesis 8.. I only hope we see an alt guy companion/counterpart. I'm planning to get her after I get paid again, to create an homage to ladies of the 80s pop.

She's not any one thing. She's whatever you render her as being. Never judge a base figure by what happens to be included with the 'Starter'/'Pro' bundles, as those are just things the marketing department has thrown in - and most people won't be able to afford those premium bundles.

In regards to what 'Sakura' could be, would have thought past experience would teach us not to even try predicting what a new character could be like, since guesses are always wrong. :)

As for ethnicities, there are usually enough existing characters to simply transfer other skins over. What I lament is how most characters tend to look very similar. This one, for instance, basically feels like Victoria with a rounder face. She actually resembles a lot of Thorne's characters, in so far as she has certain visual similarities to teenagers, but is essentially in an adult body (which is probably why adding youth morphs suits her so well). What I'd like is to see are more truly unique looks. Clea DuVall, Shawnee Smith, Linda Hamilton, etcetera... Examples of actresses who could never be confused for looking like anyone else and possess their own recognised visual 'brand' as a result. The last time I think we had someone with strikingly unique looks was probably either Ivan or George (outside of different ethnicities and stylised cartoon aesthetics).

Yeah, Benita is awesome...just not a DO base.  I don't think there really is one for either sex.

Which is really strange, given the number of Hispanic people in the world. A DO base for Hispanic characters is long overdue!

Well, there are often included addon Latino / Latina characters in the bundles.  Maybe that's why Daz hasn't ever needed to do a Hispanic base character?

Good question. I actually can't think of any explicitly Hispanic G3 character. FWSA Oscar's pretty good. But thank Saiyaness for Benita! Obviously, I'm greedy and I want more!

    Yours?

  • Cant figure out how to use DS 4.10 at all

Yes, most Victoria 4 content will be Poser format - and may not be set up for Samrt Content. If you look at the Installed tab of Install Manager items with metadata (for Smart Content etc.) will have a tick next to them.

    I think shes' beautiful! laugh

(Render stopped at 85% because I'm impatient. lol)

Looks great.  I like the toned down, less caricature look of her.  Nice expression, too.

She's my new favorite Official Daz Original Genesis 8 Female! As much as I like Victoria 8, I think I like Charlotte 8 even more! yes

  • the old April fool's joke that keeps on trolling

I made this video using the old Victoria 5 preview April fools freebie

    SKU 12368

of course I cannot redownload it

anyway to cut to the chase, some big corporation is claiming the intellectual rights to my whole video!!

    not just the music

I did use a midi file as a starting point even though it is a public domain tune so maybe if they owned that midifile

sadly I cannot find the original only my heavily edited copy

My video has had a lot of views but it is not monetised

but unless they are entitled to it why should they benefit

a few copies are out there and one has more views than mine and was featured on PewdeiPie's Blog, the copy not mine

so the views and possibly the revenue on that one has gone through the roof

I cannot do anything as I made mine public domain CC as I did many videos but why should someone then turn around and make a quick buck of mine?

Anyway I wanted that damned file so I could show how I made it and tell them to show me how they could claim any intellectual rights if not the music.

  • Is Poser Pro 11 actually better than PP 2014?

You mean Victoria 6 (V6) & Victoria 7 (V7)? I've heard it does cause some problems but not in a way, at least for V6, that causes any problems for the typical 3D DAZ hobbyist. Even V7 was made possible by a script at Renderosity that converts V7 to a Poser 2014 friendly format. You should ask that question on the Poser forums with many more users that might have used V6 & V7 in Poser 11.

There are and will be animation creation improvements as will as improvements to there two models, Paul & Pauline, version 2 and other improvements. Also, you will get version 11.1 free, a major update, when it comes out. For $49.95 to get the Pro upgrade from older version of Poser Pro it is a great deal.

However, you should visit the Smith Micro site yourself and compare Poser Pro 11.1 to older version and other 3D software.
