  • Make Your Most Realistic Renders – Ever!

After reading this topic and all comments, I decided to give it a try with my favorite software: Carrara 8.5 Pro :-), using gamma 2.2, as first sugested by PhilW, using sky light, no ambient light. Picture on the left is the pictured I adjusted in Serif PhotoPlus... yeah I know. I'm like a dinosaur, still using old software (like Carrara), and the picture on the right is the original carrara render. I know this threat hasn't been updated but I do hope that you're able to take a look at it and tell me what you think.
In case you haven't noticed: this is Victoria 3, still my favorite female 3D figure.... Well, like I said: I'm a dinosaur....

  • G8 Ankle Bends, am I the only one?

This thread made me curious, and after comparing and doing some renders of a few G8F characters' feet, I have to say I think G8's feet look just as natural as G3s.

Here are a few renders (left to right: Victoria 8, Monique 8, Base G8F, Aisling, Charlotte 8, Libby):

  • Genesis 3 characters load weird shape

If the Victoria 7 shape is at 100% deault it must have been chnaged, uninstalling and reinstalling should fix that.

What on earth do all your guys' feet look like when you bend them? Mine bend just like G8's except the heel doesn't go that close to 90 degrees. Victoria 4 and G3 look scary to me.

Gee, I'm not the only one that feels that way about it? Yeah, I get that people want what they want, but to me the G3 bends are more like those of someone that is heavyset than what a normal person is.

G3's looks the most natural to me.

  • Genesis 3 characters load weird shape

That means that one or more shapes (or master controllers) have been saved with a non-zero default. It's a content issue so reinstalling DS will do nothing - it may be a third-party morph with a non-zero default that is, in its turn, driving the Victoria 7 shape or it may be that you used somethign like the Save Modified Assets command with a character loaded from a Character Preset (which will have set the current values as the default). Checking under Currently used in parametrs should show what is at non-zero values, click the gear icon on the slider, open parameetr settings and check the default value - if a Daz store item, reinstall that set; if a third-party shape set the default and raw values to 0, then use File>Save As>Support Assets>Morph Asset to resave just that morph, with default settings, and fiel a bug report with the creator.

I'll have to try reinstalling the product (most recent, I was using Natasha for Victoria 7).  An interesting behavior I saw.

    https://www.daz3d.com/fwsa-natasha-hd-for-victoria-7

I had her in Boudoir Studio.  I went into the parameters, and changed the default value for Victoria 7 to 0.  Saved her as a subset, and that stuck.  But when I go into parameters and change that default value on her for V7 in a scene, it didn't stick - when I loaded the scene up again, the default value for Victoria 7 was back at 100.

Interesting thing is I removed her from the scene, saved it, and closed it.  Opened it up again, and merged the updated character only.  That seemed to stick.

I've revisted this as I can't batch when this happens - it keeps loading the scene with the wrong values.

Edit: computer is rendering now, I'll have to try re-installing Natasha for V7 later.  Maybe reinstall V7 too?

  • Smart Content Woes

One other thing, did you install Victoria 5 maybe using both DIM and Daz Connect?

Yes, I reset the DB, then re-import meta as you instructed.  I have always just installed through DIM, but under the install tab in Daz there are 241 products that want to be installed again through Daz Connect apparently, Victoria 5 included.  But I do see that some of these items are not showing up in Smart Content pane even though they were originally installed through DIM.

Hmm, very odd. Did you reset the database, or just did a re-import the metadata?

If you look in your UserData_1.dsx does this contain anything for Victoria 5?

Ok, so all of my custom content seems to be in tact and working but once again, Victoria 5 showing up as a duplicate with the install triangle.  Strange.

That product is over 8 years old, I'm sure there are people who work for Daz who haven't been around for 8 years. Frankly, when I first saw that product I thought it was a character too. Having said that though, they should really double check the products before adding them to sales. Or word the promo better and say "Featured Previous Generation Products" rather than "Characters" - as "Michael 4 for Genesis 2 Male" and "Victoria 4 for Genesis 2 Female" are also in that sale's category and they aren't characters either.

  • Charlotte 8

We clamoured for unconventional girls that were not cookie cutter beauty contestants; so, Daz gave us edgy, angular-faced Victoria, Olympia and Stephanie. We complained about them, and Daz has answered by giving us Victoria 6's and Stephanie 6's little sister. So, it seems Daz has decided that we really want cute core female characters after all, and I think they're right.

I don't think it would have been so bad if V8, O8 and S8 hadn't all looked like they were from the same cookie cutter.  I didn't think V8 looked like what the traditional base character should be.  But, I don't hate the look they gave her.  I didn't see the point to Olympia 8.  She just looked like a slightly more volutptuous V8 to me.  Whereas, O7 had a really nice, mature woman look about her.

Teen Josie 8...just looks kind of odd to me...nothing like her predecessors, but also not quite human.

Charlotte is cute, but not cartoony.  I think she is a better base for Teen and early 20s than either Josie or Stephanie.

  • Smart Content Woes

So has anyone encountered this... I seem to have two Victoria 5 icons in my Smart content tab.  Both are identical in content, but they have different Global ID and one has Metadata, the other doesn't.

Anyone know how I can fix this?

Also, why when I install all new content through DIM, do the items show up with the Install Icon in the corner as if they need to be installed again?

    Thanks

  • G8F: Height changing body morphs break IK. Figure jumps up or down when moving body parts

Yes, more specifically the "height" morph. As I mentioned, I also get the effect with the Victoria 8 morph. This does not activeate the height morph, but I wonder if the morph wasn't used in its creation. From the V8 characters I have, the following have the issue:

    • Elizabeth
    • Rebekah
    • Victoria8

These are all heigher than the standard G8F model.

    These work:

    • Alondra
    • Daphne
    • Genesis 8F
    • Laverne
    • Monique8
    • Phoebe
    • Olympia
    • Sarah
    • Kallisto

None of these make the base G8F heigher, so that fits the theory.

Interestingly Laverne and Monique make the model less tall, but don't exhibit the jumping effect I get when I use the "height" morph to make them smaller.

Edward, Prince of Wales was never Regent for his Mother, queen Victoria.   The Regency period was the previous century

Art Nouveau period was mainly from 1890 to 1910, and covered the end of the Victorian era and most of the Edwardian era. It was popular in Europe. In Great Britian we had a more restrained version called the Arts and Crafts movement made famous by Charles Rennie Mackintosh

Art Deco although traces were found earlier, became popular after the first world war, from 1920 onwards to 1930s.   There are many Art deco buildings in the UK still to this day, both famous buildings and ordinary houses that people still live in.

Elvis Costello even Wrote a song about one

Five miles out of London on the Western Avenue
Must have been a wonder when it was brand new
Talkin' 'bout the splendour of the Hoover factory
I know that you'd agree if you had seen it too
It's not a matter of life or death
But what is, what is ?
It doesn't matter if I take another breath
Who cares ? Who cares ?
Green for go, green for action
From Park Royal to North Acton
Past scrolls and inscriptions like those of the Egyptian age
And one of these days the Hoover factory
Is gonna be all the rage in those fashionable pages

Talkin' 'bout the splendour of the Hoover factory

Capsces makes good use of it in all her pose sets.  The Monique ones in the pro bundle too, you just can't see it in the promos 'cause they're all shown in shoes for some reason.

I got confused, because Georgian were regents, I mean Edward started to grow as regent from 1892 and he was more progressive and openminded with art and civil rights for the new midclass and bourgeoise.

1892 - 1901 Edward Prince of Wales was denied access o State Papers and involvement in affairs of state until 1892. Finally from here on in he is copied in and consulted on matters requiring the involvement of the monarchy it its role supporting the government of the Day.
1897 Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria
1901 Queen Victoria died on 22 Jan 1901 at Osborne House her family home with Albert. She had become the Matriarch of European Monarchy and Britain now had the largest Empire on earth which the Queen as Monarch was the obvious link across her dominions. One person in four was her subject. What a burden for her son, so long the King in waiting.

Some years later, at 1915, the spanish king Alphonse XII produced 12 silent pornography films https://www.theguardian.com/film/2004/mar/12/2

At the same time on all Europe from 1901 to 1910 the promotion and marketing of products on sale were shown as high erotic fantasy images of women called Art Noveau, the most famous is the czech artist Alphonse Mucha. I think all Edwardian regency was also a modernist influence.

The Point is the new buildings/streets/roads of Edwardian aren't victorian, we need more representative of the changes of the era, art deco art noveau and modernist influences.

Here is a link of people from London and Paris walking at early 1900s http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2173872/Edwardian-street-style-Astonishing-amateur-images-capture-fashion-women-London-Paris-century-ago.html

Here's my take on Charlotte, I'm glad that I passed on Olympia 8, Josie 8, and Stephanie 8. I'm sure I'll get them in time but they didn't really make me do a double take. Anyway I tweaked her face a bit to give her a softer jawline and rounder face. One thing I've noticed is how rare a soft jawline is in character packs. Even in the reign of Victoria 4 almost all females have a strong angular jawline with a pointy chin. I like that Charlottle can go sweet and soft compare to other bases. Very happy with her.
