Daz Jedi Outfit + addon

So hope to "again" see some Star Wars alien head morphs for G9!
Star Wars head morphs would be quite a bit more involved than Star Trek, given that Star Trek aliens are just humans with some stuff glued to their face.
Daz Jedi Outfit + addonNow that Daz have done some Star Trek outfits, I hope Daz would do Jedi Outfits, I've seen the X-Wing suit, but I didn't actually like that design compared to the "real ones" in the movies, it's not accurate!
But back to the G9 Jedi Outfits, it could be originally a Samurai suit with Jedi/sith add-on for colors... as the jedi outfit were based on ninja/samurai outfits (don't quote me on that, no sure but they are close!)Hope I will see some more Star Wars inspired bundles soon!
Never been a fan of Star Trek, but the morphs looks very good!
So hope to "again" see some Star Wars alien head morphs for G9!

So can someone explain to me how stuff like the Star Trek products that were released today aren't a huge copyright concern? It's not just clearly inspired, I'm pretty sure the Nova and Next Generation are practically the same. Did Daz strike some kind of deal with these companies?
The ones I looked at had editorial licences

The way they are promoted suggests that to be highly likely, considering how allergic towards such products they have been before.

New Free Webinar Series from Digital Art Live!
Paul Bussey at Digital Art Live is really into art and loves Daz 3d and he likes a lot of the cool fun I have on my website, and he wanted to figure out a way to harness some of that Daz 3d love I have into some kind of free webinar series.
So together, after a few meetings, we've come up with something that I think will be a Lot of fun for everyone!Creative Cart - DAZ Store Highlights
...and our first episode is coming Saturday, March 9th
The series will be a showcase conducted live by myself of various products from the Daz 3d store that work together in some way and will be selected according to a related theme of some sort, and each epsiode will include a short special section that I call "Animation Corner" where we'll explore something from the store that works well with, is designed specifically for, or even facilitates animations within Daz Studio.
There's also a new special section at Digital Art Live Studio forums for Creative Cart, and there will be a special article/discussion made for each episode, and we set that up before the episodes begin so that we can chat before and after the show. Pretty cool stuff!
Our first episode highlights Ravnheart - the Star Ship Marcoor series, specifically. Inside and out, the Star Ship Marcoor has delighted me for years and is delivered as a wonderful set of products that allow us to just grab what we need and nothing more - and also has some Killer Aged texture addons!
Who better to help us demonstrate such a wonderful kit of Sci-Fi goodness than DzFire's amazing Cyborg Generation 8! So we'll feature that as well!
Hmmm... what should we do about Animation Corner?
I know... Reisormocap's Sci Fi Moves Genesis series!
This was a very cool set of animations for M4 and V4, but then Reisormocap brought them up-to-date and added even more animations for Genesis 1, 2 and 3!
Whoa... even a certain nasty supervillain force-choking someone in a two-character setup!!!
Each episode also includes a community discussion section where attendees have the opportunity to share their artwork and stories related to the episode. To make that part even easier, Paul will include a special topic as a bit of a challenge that is completely separate from the genre of the episode - our first being:
Create a scene that weaves these elements into a story only you can tell. Whether it's a fantasy feast or a historical reimagining, show us how these assets can come to life in your hands. Share your creations against this post and/or during our Creative Cart event and inspire fellow artists by showcasing your unique vision.
Let's embark on this creative adventure together and explore the endless possibilities that DAZ 3D brings to our fingertips!
If you can't tell already, I'm really having a blast with Paul at Digital Art Live! When he sends me the recorded Chat from each of my webinars, it's become clear that the audience likes my lectures as well - so I just want to keep on doing this... Forever!!!

A self made terrain with the somewhat adjusted Tau Variant material by David Brinnen. Sky and ambient light by the ErnieClouds HDRI free on my website and the key light by the sun. Snow and ice are melting.
This looks pretty tasty. Like a syrup, perhaps.

Here are my first results with World Machine. I used fractal (perlin), sometimes added noise, sometimes a polygon outlined 'mountain', erosion, combiners. etc. The materials are (modified) materials from various Bryce sources (including Horo and David B) and so are the skies. HDRIs were included in some cases and generally I used soft shadows in rendering.
These look very nice!

The island and lighting from the Hdri Captured Volumetric Skies, the materials are slightly modified, the plane and boat freebies.
What a lovely scene!

Two new scenes with models from the Dark Souls videogame. I went for a super stylised lighting effect and quite happy with the whacky results : )
As always it's a pleasure seeing what everyone shares. Hope all are well!
Looks pretty interesting, I'd even say "mind bending". Reminds me of Thief: Dark Project.

Today I downloaded a few freebies from the Daz3D website. Among other things a panther and and a antelope. I like these older models, as they do not use too much storage, they can be imported quite fast and IMHO they still look good.
You've managed to create a pretty charming scene in the end! Sleep is best when sun is so hot, regardless of what creature you are...

I tried modeling one myself but I don't think i'm cut out to do such a complicated model outside of college finals :P
Gorgeous train "portrait in the wild"!

Curious as to why the add-on has editorial license but not the required product dForce Sci-Fi Pilot Suit for Genesis 9 Outfit. They look identical other than the colors.
The orange texture is inspired by X-Wing Pilot suit from Star Wars :)
But so is the underlying geometry, which I believe was ArtAngel's point.

Even though I really don't like Daz selling EL items, and won't buy them, the toon-devil on my shoulder is whispering how cool it would be to have a Mandalorian add-on for a set of 3d plate armor...and the toon-angel on my other shoulder is trying not to look tempted.
on the last page #77 of the Star Wars thread there is a render of Mandalorians https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/26281/star-wars-renders-2013#latest
A Thread for Items with the "Editorial License"Considering Daz likely got a license from Disney -who by the way is notoriously draconian when it comes to their IPs- I can't say I'm surprised the X-Wing pilot suit is under Editorial License. You'd have to be huffing some strong copium and hopium to think they'd let Daz have Star Wars-related items (and not thinly veiled ones like RawArt's characters based/inspired by Yoda, Twi'leks, etc) for sale and not have an iron grip on how they can be used.

Pretty sure such things exist in other places. Plus, there are knock-off items in the store, clearly inspired or at least influenced. Sometimes, it's hard to say they're not also influenced/inspired by an Ironman suit. And, EL or not, actual Mandalorian-style armor is fairly distinctive. I guess it depends on your view of such things. Boba Fett has been around since the (in)famous) 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special.
A Thread for Items with the "Editorial License"one thing I was wondering is the basic suit and the Star Wars add on is the only real difference is the Star Wars one having the orange texture and Rebel signs so if some copyright lawers could maybe make a case if they really were in a mood it's happened before and remember there are other products here under the EL some have asked if they changed or removed something would it be ok and were told no

Both dForce Sci-Fi Pilot Suit for Genesis 9 Rebel Texture Add-On
and
dForce Daybreak Outfit BSG Add-On
have Editorial Licensing. Not surprising though.I seriously doubt the EL will keep the LFL/Disneylawyers away. I am an officer in 1 of the best known Star Wars cosplay clubs. The IP owners have had us and members of our sister club do official events and LFL/Disney doesn't even let us profit from their IP.I am ... astonished at how the items have been promoted.
And that is all I will say about that.
I never buy this stuff . . . meaning editorial licensed products. Who does? If so why? And if few do why bother? Just questions from a curious soul.
Edit: I was astonished too. But I do appreciate the blantant transparency. I think many of us wanted a blaring sign it was editorial and DAZ has delivered . . . so I really respect this transparent disclosure.

One of the textures sets is 11th in the What's Hot section, and given it cheap price (4.75, even less with discounts/tokens etc) then it would need to sell a fair number of units to get to 11th in the table. Therefore it seems some people are buying. The Star Wars set seem more popular than Battlestar Galactica. DAZ would not keep selling the editorial items if they were not making it money. Though why they are allowed to make money off these items, and users are not, is a question that perplexes me, and I guess a lawyer would know best.

I don't trust the "dForce Sci-Fi Pilot Suit for Genesis 9" and "dForce Daybreak Outfit for Genesis 9" outfits since the texture packs add-ons have editorial licenses. The outfits are waaayyyyy too close to the originals. I don't want someone to look at my stuff and say, "Oh, that's a Star Wars outfit or Battlestar Galactica outfit, but colored blue." That means I'd only get one outfit in the pack and that one has torso cut outs. Yes, I can create a geoshell for the torso that matches the texture in the outfit, but it's a pain.
I despise these "Editorial License" products. If it's a potential copyright/trademark issue for us to make commercial renders, they shouldn't be sold in the store.
Agreed.
Kara 9 'a bunch of polygons with a haircut'Interesting. I wouldn't have realized it was supposed to be Katee Sackhoff without it being mentioned. The more obvious one to me is Michael 9 looking identical to Oscar Isaac.

I have to wonder if Katee Sackhoff is actually getting anything off of this, as for once we have a celebrity likeness where there's absolutely no attempt at all at disguising exacty who the figure is modeled on... That said, I have to say that absolutely love the figure as not only is it the first G9 model since V9 that actually looks like a real human being without any wandering into toon territory, but it's also a female bodytype that's unique to G9 base figures so far. The Pro Bundle is a fairly solid mix as well, though I presonally have no use for yet another robot/chicken walker vehicle, but given that the total Pro bundle price in my cart was only $24.78 (with several add ons and 8 tokens applied) and that there are actually Star Wars and BSG specific add-ons, this was the easiest G9 bundle purchase I can remember making.
