  • CEB Deep3DFace 0.10.1 Tutorial & Question

    Hi,

    I followed the tutorial in the video and was able to generate a 3d face model of a photo in Blender. The resulting model looks to be a close match to the person in the photo.

    Now that I have this model in Blender, is there any way to get this applied to a Genesis 8, 8.1, or 9 figure? I realize it may not be as simple to load a morph because the polygon count would be different. Would ZBRUSH work to sculpt a head so it matched the model exported from Blender?

  • What does it mean a character depends on another?

    It means that the Victoria 9 morphs are used (not necessarily at 100%) as part of the morph mix to create the JeanDoe shape. The morph dial for the character should apply the required amount of the V9 morphs automatically when used.
    If you don't have V9, it will apply the other morphs used only so the resulting shape will be different. How different depends on the character.
    To give you an idea, there are a few example of characters without the base in this old thread: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/394456/the-dial-them-out-thread

    Regarding the texture, it depends on the character. Most will include their own textures.

    For older generation figures like Genesis 1, 2 or 3: Older generation "named characters" often included their own custom UVs, and textures made for characters "for named figure" sometimes used those UVs too, so their textures would not work properly if you didn't have the required characters.

    So, would I have to reinstate the Voluptuous Toned folder, load the scene, then temporarily remove the folder and the scene / character should revert back to the original (and correct) path?  Then I would save it?   So for each scene I would have to reinstate the Voluptuous Toned folder, load the scene then temporarily remove the folder?

    That would seem pretty tedious.

    Well, thanks for your help so far.   But if you could clarify the first method more, perhaps that might be easier for me.

    No sorry :(  I wont answer this because there is a better alternative, it will be too complicated for you.

    Try me

    Edit:  I tried the first method by loading up a figure that was dependent on the Voluptuous Toned folder, then I removed the folder (by changing the name to Voluptuous Toned_ Old)  and then saving it.  Then I reloaded the figure and sadly, I was getting all sorts of missing files looking for the Voluptuous Toned folder.    I was kind of doubtful that removing the folder with the scene open would work as the .duf files would still save with the references to the Voluptuous Toned Folder.

    I have tested it several times and it worked for me.

    Well, it works some of the time, but it doesn't take care of all the morphs all the time. ...At least in my case it doesn't.

    Best method suggested was probably editing the .duf files, since you can do many quickly.

    If you uncompress (using winzip or 7zip or whatever) the scene .duf file you will be able to edit it in simple text editor like notepad.  Then, after you edit it, I believe you can rename as .duf for daz to be able to open it again.

    I have 7Zip on my machine and I tried this out.  While it MOSTLY works, there is still quite a bit of jibberish, but at least I can read much of it.  I opened one of the scene files in 7zip and then did a search for the infamous Voluptuous Toned folder files.  First, the file takes a LONG time to fully load into Wordpad.  (I don't have Offfice or Word).

    you should be using notepad or other basic text editors which are used for editing code. I dont think you can use wordpad, because thats nota basic text editor - it is a WYSIWYG type editor with formatting and so on.

    Yes, and that therein lies a problem.  Without the formatting the text is all over the place and entries are hard to make out. Could I edit it in Wordpad and then put it in notepad to save it?

    The entries look like this:

    208/Female/Morphs/jukingeo/Voluptuous%20Toned%20Body/PHMEarlobesLength.dsf#PHMEarlobesLength",
                    "parent" : "#geometry-9",

                    "channel" : {
                        "id" : "value",

                        "name" : "Value",
                        "current_value" : -0.5

                    "url" : "/data/DAZ%203D/Genesis%208/Female/Morphs/jukingeo/Voluptuous%20Toned

    So you can see it still has some "hyroglyphics"  (erroneous % and other odd characters { here and there).

    No there is nothing wrong with that. "%20" just means space.  You should have seen that millions of times in web URLs...

    I actually rarely come across a % sign in a web URL.

    You can probably do batch find/replace of the erroneous data path within each .duf file - see previous posts about erroneous vs correct data path.  If need to find correct path for given morph, just search your Daz3D Content directory for the morph name to find its path.

    My suggestion:

    1. Delete all your non-custom morphs from Voluptuous Toned folder.
    2. Then, whenever you feel the need to reopen an old scene file, open it to see which morph loading errors it produces
    3. Fix the pathways for those morphs that gave the errors using the .duf editing method

    There is also ALOT of entries.   So I don't see how this method is easier than the other way.  Further I don't know where the correct folder is for...lets say  PBMUpperArmsSize above to correct the issue.

    Awww that sounds terrible. Well, you only need to change the ones that have errors.

    Yes, it is.  You are under the impression that I only have trouble with a few morphs, huh?  (see below)

    See attached for example for how to find path.

    1. Reload Scene file (without saving it if prompted)

    Just make sure when editing path in text editor that you pay attention to backwards vs forward slash etc and make everything conform to correct convention. You can see the format of the code structure and how other pathways are referenced within the duf file to see what convention is.

    It does look a bit tricky.  Accidentially deleting something could possibly corrupt the whole file, huh?

    Well as long as you dont save over your scene file after opening it, it will continue to spit out the errors to indicating what is missing.  And you can fix missing morphs as per above process. So... dont see what the risk is.

    I mean, I will give it a shot, but it looks like it will take a very long time just to fix one scene.

    Wouldnt it only take like 1 minute max per missing morph? Search, copy path, paste path, fix text.  You never gave any indication about how many missing morph errors you were seeing, so i assume that the amount is manageable.

    As I said above, so you are thinking I am only having problem with a few morphs?  Well, guess again, it is more like 30 to 50.  So giving your example of a minuite per morph, I am looking at about 30 to 50 minutes per character...and that is also per scene as I do have characters that reoccur.   Granted, once I get a character fixed, I could save the body shape and then apply that to the character in subsequent scenes.   However, I do have a at least 200 (give or take) Genesis 8 female characters.

    You only have to do this once when you need to open an old scene. I cant imagine that's too often.

      Granted, I probably will not fix each and every scene where a certain character appears in.  Once I have a "Good" copy of that character, I can just delete the corrupted one and put the good one in it's place.

    That's a good hack.

    Yeah,  It is also a lesson learned to save a shape preset for any important characters.   But the biggest tip was to bite in the sour apple and remove the Voluptuous Toned folder.   I was under the impression that Daz stopped using it after I moved it in 2020.  Well, even though it didn't change the morphs since then, it was STILL referencing the folder up until now.  So when I put it back after I deleted and caused this issue in the first place, I was inadvertently damaging my newer characters too since it was still referencing the Genesis 8 Female Head Morphs from the Voluptuous Toned folder.  But now that I removed it and that package and reinstalled it, it has put it in the right place, and I had noticed that many of my HD morphs had been restored.

  • What does it mean a character depends on another?

    For example, Let's say a character in the store says JeanDoe for Victoria 9.

    Does it mean that both morphs need to be applied at 100% at the same time? What happens if you do not have the base model? Does it apply only a slight morph?

    Does it mean that it needs to use the same base textures to look like the intended character? Does it include a texture?

    Thank you.

  • Changing teeth (shape) from one figure to another.

    Hello All,

    I had come across a situation in which I would like to change the teeth from one character to another.   While I do have dedicated teeth morphs, the problem is that most of those morphs are fantasy related or to show a certain condition, such as atrophied teeth.

    In the case that I have the main face shape I want to use comes with teeth that have spaces and gaps between them (Khloe 8).  I want to change this 'set' of teeth to someone elses in which there are no gaps, like those on Eva 8, or Sydney 8.   Yet, I want to maintain the face shape as is.

    I know I could easily change the color and surface texture under the surfaces tab, but since there is no teeth morph per character, changing the shape is eluding me.  So how would I just change the teeth but leave the rest of the face intact?

    Thanks,

    Geo

    That's generally what happens, using the Misty presets, you only get to see the Head morphs, none of the body morphs show up. That  is why I create a duplicate folder structure and after converting to blended weight I Save As...Support Asset...Figure/Prop Asset into your newly created folder.  Then load that into Carrara and you should have all the head and body parameter dials.  At least that's the way it works for me.

    Edit to add.... this happens with G8.1 only.  G8 works normally with Misty's preset

    The Support Asset trick worked for bringing in all of the morphs I had for G8.1. However the HellBaron morph is still missing in action apart from the morph that I created for it.

    Another asset to be used, although I am starting to favour G9 now that I can transfer morphs across !!!

  • Joan 9

    I like the character. A bit rough on the masculine side, but that's OK being a medieval warrior. I liked the mixed morph with Angela and Minerva shown. As for a modern approach I had to dial in the feminine head morph right to the top getting this result.

    I'm probably wrong, but I feel a Feng vibe with this one.

    Hell Baron for Ravager Parasite for Genesis 8.1 Male - https://www.daz3d.com/hell-baron-for-ravager-parasite-for-genesis-81-male

    When I loaded Misty's preset into Carrara, then looked at the Parameters tab to find the morph it was missing !

    Checked in DAZ Studio and there was a dialable morph setting for it.

    Closed down/opened Carrara a couple of times and reloaded Misty's preset each time - no joy .....

    Decided to make a base morph of the character in DAZ Studio, which I did.

    Then reopened Carrara and loaded Misty's preset, checked the Parameters for the morphs and presto the created morph was available !!!

    Hello. Can anyone tell me how to fix this problem. when I import the dress obj into the scene it looks fine, but as soon as I fit it to Genesis 9 wit the tranfer utility, I get these distortions in the mesh under the breasts and pelvis. I transferred with the settings shown in the pic. Thanks for any help.

    Well, I tried XTransfer for the first time and it crashed Studio in the middle of a Michael7 transfer (head and body).  Things were going smoothly (I guess) until halfway through. No warning message -- Studio simply vanished. When I relaunched Studio, Michael7 head appeared under XTransfer morphs but was corrupted. CORRECTION: I found Michael7 body, but it was corrupted as well.

    the last part of your comment, ( assuming you don't have yopur own copy of Poser (that is new enough to read the call format) you would need to contact the maker for that. ) , has left me a bit confused.

    I own the venerable 'Technophilia Gynoid Rock - It' and I'd really like to use the morphs for it that don't work in Daz.

    Please could you tell me if a trial version of the latest 'Poser' would be successful in doing as you suggest in turning off  'Use External Binary Morphs.'

    AND

    What type of format should it be saved As/In etc.

    Thank you very much for helping myself and others.

    John.

    I don't know but would expect it would work, and you would want to save the tiems back to the same library as they loaded from (which should take care of the extension).

  • Genesis 8F duplicate formula errors?

    This is a very confusing post - you seem to be complaining about duplicate formulas and then post a snippet that does not contain any duplicate forumla errors.

    What you have posted about can also be explained by a poorly coded asset/product, or one that does this on purpose, not necessarily DazStudio at fault. I don't have that product but I am aware of the existence of products that allow you to attach male genitals to female figures.

    You did not accuratly read my post with regards to the snippit.

    It was posted with the exlanation that the log shows DS trying to load G8 male genital morpths to the stock DS G8 Female charactor.

    I am assuming is it is a poorly coded asset provided by DS since it is their asset

    No, it's something you have loaded and installed from sources outside DAZ store.

    Even when you load the stock G8 female character, DS reads every morph and character you have installed for G8 females, creates dials for those morphs and makes the connections between different dials - This is how the system works.

    In your case, with the DS closed, I would be looking at "...\Data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Female\Morphs\" for a folder named "MediAsylum", move it out of your content library and check if the problem was fixed.

    I read it and given the subject of the post I expected a snippet showing duplicate forumla errors, yet there was none. Instead you are talking about a morph issue that is missing it's parent which is a completely different issue.

    It was posted with the exlanation that the log shows DS trying to load G8 male genital morpths to the stock DS G8 Female charactor.

    Which has nothing to to with duplicate formulas - which is the subject of your post.

    I am assuming is it is a poorly coded asset provided by DS since it is their asset and it is the ONLY asset being loaded into a blank scene. If there is no doubt this is a bad asset the question asked by many is "how to fix it"

    You need to specify the name/URL of the product providing thoise morphs if you want help from forum members as there isn't enough info to go on. Alternatively, you should report the product via Daz support ticket.

    This seems to be a common problem for nearly everyone using G8F given the number of posts but so far not one post has resulted in a solution.

    Not at all. First I have heard about any posts referencing male genitalia on G8Fs. Perhaps we are looking at different forums?

  • Genesis 9 only modifies clothing in parameters

    That's a feature of the Genesis range. The clothing is meant to change with the character.

    Before the genesis range, in order for characters to have clothes fit them, the character had to be made from a set range of morphs. Then the clothes could be made to incorporate the same morphs, and by means of tweaking the same name morph dials in the clothes and character, you could get the character to be properly clothed. This was usually hidden from view by being done through deliberate cross-talk where every dial with the same name had the same setting.

    When the Genesis range came, a different method of fitting the clothes was chosen. The clothes were fitted to a particular base figure, and when the facets of the figure move, the clothes move too to match the same offset as happened when referencing the base figure.

    So, moving clothes when the character changes is a feature, not a bug.

    Regards,

    Richard

  • Genesis 8.1 Face Controls

    This is an old thread, the solution for power pose templates and expressions is the same;

    Making the G8 base expressions (and any expressions that are using them) work on G8.1 requires removing dummy/placeholder expressions that are installed to G8.1 morph folders - These dummy/placeholder expression files have no other function than to prevent the base G8 expressions from loading.

    The dummy/placeholder files are located in;
    ...\Data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Female 8_1\Morphs\Daz 3D\Base Pose Head\ (255 files, can be more if you have additional DAZ expression packs)
    ...\Data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Female 8_1\Morphs\Daz 3D\Expressions\ (24 files, can be more if you have additional DAZ expression packs)
    ...\Data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Male 8_1\Morphs\Daz 3D\Base Pose Head\ (255 files, can be more if you have additional DAZ expression packs)
    ...\Data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Male 8_1\Morphs\Daz 3D\Expressions\ (24 files, can be more if you have additional DAZ expression packs)

    Please make sure you are removing the files from G8.1 morph folders and not G8 morph folders.

    Note 1; If you are logging in to DS and letting DAZ Connect (within DS) to install/update your content, you may have these also in an other location that has "\Data\Cloud\" in it's path

    Note 2; Do not remove any files from "FACS" or "FACSExpressions" folders

  • PBR skin shader and displacement don't mix?

    So I have a character with custom scars and the best way to depict them (outside of creating a morph) is to use displacement maps.
    All well and good, but for some reason adding a displacement map stalls iray entirely. This does not happen with uber shaders.
    So, any tips on getting it to work or is it a fool's errand?
