Thats great. Too bad you can't use any of the models....

good luck with your house, Sketchup is pretty cool for modeling, I started with it but it does create lots of ngons.Hahaha...sorry I mislead you wendy, but chohole (aka Pam) is right. I've downoladed 3ds models from sites which look real good on that site, everything in it's place, but only to find all the pieces scattered when imported into Bryce. I then have to take those models into a program like Hexagon or Wings, etc. and reassemble the model. For small models this isn't much of a problem, but for large models, especially houses with lots of windows, it's a pain to reassemble because each component is made up of several smaller parts.
@Pam: Thanks for the extra explanation. I should remember to use KISS when explaining something.
@Patience55: Thank you, again, for the information. I have done a web search and found a few floor plans along with profiles. It's the multiple profiles that I really want in order to get something close to accurate. Seems the only images I find are frontal shots of some rather nice looking homes.
Starting a modelSketchup ... nooooooooo
Technically you don't "have to have" a floorplan, it is usually easier to work seeing what one is aiming for.
In most any paint editor one can make a basic floorplan. Doesn't have to be perfect even.
Here's a quick start. And no the plan is not perfect. When one is using the line tools, Hexagon will draw the lines straight.

Of course as DS can't use 3ds files it is not so well known to some.

If I'd planned to do an interior I'd do the entire model using Sketchup 2014, and a floor plan would be a great asset. But since the house is a period house it might be possible to get a floor plan and additional profiles. I'd just have to do a search to find out.
I've never used Hexagon's 2D tools so I'd have to do a bit of experimenting to see if that method worked the best.
It might be best to do a search for that type of house, floor plan as well, in order to get good sharp images to work from. That way I'd be able to see where transitions take place from sharp to soft edges, better detail of the windows and doors, and any accouterments which are the norm for that style house.
I do know one important fact, this entire project is going to be a learning experience. It may even require I look through the tutorials I've found in order to create certain things. The one thing I know for sure, when I finish this house, I don't want it to be exploded like some structures I've downloaded from other sites. I'd want others to just place it in their scenes, add material, and move on.

I have downloaded this YJob many times and they always open up like the 41 chevrolet out there. All exploded vertices shooting lines everywhere. Over half the car. Just no way to use it for anything. You got very lucky with it Betsy! Looks real nice too in your renders. You are a very lucky man to have it.I got this one off a GTA site. It's the 1912 Ford model T. I think this is the one someone converted for the warehouse for sketchup. This one, however, is a lot nicer. I used a gold shader on it and DZFire's baby blue shader for the body. It has a top up and a top down so you can choose. The hood comes off also. Tires actually have treads...lol. They come off also so you can make them spin for video if you want.
:-)
Oh I know about that 41 Chevy, I never could make that one work either, nor the 60 Caddy, there are quite a few I can't get to work at all in Blender, those are just locked and I can't unlock them, then there are those I can load into Blender just fine, and I can even load them into Poser, but when I try to load them into DS, its a no go.
That Model T looks fine, however, they didn't use gold, they used polished brass, and the wheels would have been body color, as they were made of wood, the rims would have been made of steel on a Model T of that vintage.
I will consider that and make a new version. That shader is actually called "polished brass", not gold. It was a bonus one that came with the chrome shaders. The render posted on the GTA site had the rims colored this color, but I can change that.
:-)

OK...now where did you find a working YJob? I have gotten that car at four different places and every one of the meshes were corrupted! I would love to have it. Been trying to find a good one for a year now! Please post or PM me a link!...lol.
:cheese:
I'd like to know that too. I've never found one that converted correctly.
I got it at the GTAInside.
OK, downloaded it. There are 2 of them, one Model and one Full Damage model. Both are locked and after unlocking them, ZModeler 2.08 would import them (Zmodeler 2.24 or 2.26 wouldn't open them) but they were missing parts. Blender wouldn't open the lock or unlocked models.
I run into that sometimes, but for some reason, I was able to open it in Blender without any problem, I don't have Z Modeler, as we've been in a financial problem for awhile and I simply can't justify purchasing the license, not at this time anyway, but Blender opened it right up for me, the undamaged version of course, once I open it in Blender, ( I do this with all of the GTA conversions), I highlight the entire car, often I'll resize it, remove the DAM files, and then export the Wavefront obj, this is when I find out if I can even load it into DAZ Studio, if it won't import, I simply don't go any further with the model, no need to, can't use it, if on the other hand, it imports into DS, then I will go ahead and do all the hard work in Blender, before I go on to do the hard work in Poser.
Well that cool. What version of Blender do you use and what dff importer do you use?
The version of Blender I used when I downloaded the Y Job was 2.63, and I've been using that version on this computer without any updating for about 4 years plus, I added the dff plugin in 2012 I think, don't know where to look for the version of dff importer I'm using, as the part I downloaded is long lost in a sea of downloads somewhere on this PC!
When I got my wife's old computer, when she bought a new one earlier this year, I converted that one for use with DS, so I downloaded the newest version of DS, as well as Blender, Sketchup, TDX Workshop and I moved all my Poser7 files over from one computer to another.

Was this a sketchup conversionShow Us Your Bryce Renders! Part 8@Roland: That second ornament is gorgeous. The results you get with the lettering is great. I remember seeing that image, thanks to your reminder. The way it is now gives it a whole new dimension. It looks neat.
@Horo: Thank you, just following David's lead. Thanks for the heads up as to where to look for the spider.
@Dave: What a wonderful job you've done putting that image together. I actually think it's a photo. You're not Stuart's brother are you?
@electro: Really nice chest of drawers. Great how you placed the wood grain. Looks like something a person would make using Sketchup. I've not yet quite got the hang of Hexagon, though I've tried a few things some time ago.
CAR AND BIKE LOVERS THREAD - MARK IIImusic2u4u said:You mever know about sketchup cars. You just have to try. I have downloaded a lot of them, which only takes a second, then coverted them only to find bad material zones, bad mesh corners, Bad unions. Almost all have to have the normals recalculated, so I take them into Poseray for that. On the 66 Nova, my interior is chrome also but the seats have center sections. That could be changed to black though and would work. I did export it as a .3ds file, then converted to .obj in Poseray. Then into Daz.:-)
When I loaded it into Poser as a prop, I loaded it in 3 parts, the body, the interior tub and the bottom plate which includes the wheels/tires, this cured the problem of all the chrome parts being chrome, such as the interior and bottom plate, almost like putting together a slammer car kit.

CAR AND BIKE LOVERS THREAD - MARK IIIOkay, the 66 Impala is not that great, but believe me, as far as sketchup models go, it isn't bad either, not as well detailed as the Nova or the 64 Impala, it isn't bad for a background prop, and is a good looking start for anyone wanting to detail it, add an interior and such.
CAR AND BIKE LOVERS THREAD - MARK IIImusic2u4u said:I'll have to go over and look for the 65 Impala, your right, I've never seen that one anywhere either, the 66 GTO isn't that great, like the 64 Impala, needed some body panel repairs, but not too bad to work with, that 66 Nova, that require separating the interior tub, bottom plate from the body, as some idiot made the interior, (the whole interior) and bottom plate of the car a part of the same material zone as the body chrome, then I had to separate all of the interior material zones, that car came out to over 30 MB when I converted it to an obj! But it will look good once I get all of the interior materials set! Should take a few weeks to get that done!
