Show Us Your Bryce Renders! Part 9
Art- the shoreline looks nice. Thanks for the comment
Vivien1 - that’s so cute.
A few more gemstones. Gemstones 2 - The Hall Set
The Eiffel tower and Colosseum are Sketchup models. The Colosseum I downloaded a very long time ago but found it very time consuming to add the textures and thus never completed it. I think it makes a nice gemstone. ;-)

Iray has been available for 3DS Max, Maya, and C4D since 2011, and as a plugin for Sketchup since 2010. It's been around for a number of years, and has even been used by Pixar as a part or their lighting pre-vis workflow (and most likely several other large studios). As I understand it, Including it in DS is simply the first time it's been available as a free option in a free 3D software.Anyone can use Iray. If you don't have a compatible GPU, you can use it in CPU mode, and still get excellent render times for a CPU only unbiased renderer. This will give all DS users integrated access to an unbiased render engine in DS. Now all users will have the choice to use either Iray or 3Delight, depending on what they want. Many may chose to not use Iray at all, since 3Delight is still an available option, but Iray will be there for those who want to used an unbiased renderer.
I'm aware of CPU mode. I wasn't aware of Iray as I don't follow 3DS Max, Maya or C4D as they are all way beyond my price range and probably beyond my hardware capabilities. I get that it's nice to have options too, I like to get used to one before another comes along and DS is moving a little too fast for me at the moment. I haven't fully mastered 3Delight and haven't even done one Lux render yet.
CHEERS!

I can't go into any details, and if you see a great deal on a different website, by all means, go for it, but if you want to wait to see what we think will be a better value that we can bring you in the near future to help you on the hardware end, its in the pipeline that we're pushing hard finalize. Now we get some clarity as to why Iray becomes the render engine of choice. Until the email about DS4.8 dropped into my inbox I hadn't heard of it. So, is Daz now to become a hardware vendor as well as a software vendor!?
I've also just gone through 13 pages relating to Nvidia on Google and have only found results regarding gaming. Is Daz Studio being used by Nvidia to test the waters in the 3D modelling and rendering marketplace!?
I'd always thought of DS as a program that anyone could use no matter what hardware they had. Ok, yes, to an extent it still will be as you are keeping 3Delight so that non NVidia users can have a program they can still use effectively with their hardware and hopefully this will always prove to be the case.
Obviously, as a business, you have to keep going in ways that will ensure a future and I do hope that future will always be an inclusive one for folks that have been with you for as long as I have.

Import of .obj exports from Sketchup 2015 - odd shading/texturingYeah.. I know Sketchup is not the optimal tool, but sometimes its the only way to get a model that isn't being flogged at astronomical prices elsewhere..
Import of .obj exports from Sketchup 2015 - odd shading/texturingSketchUp is a lousy modeling program so the model probably has some seriously jacked-up topology. Post a close-up around one of the doors in wire shaded display option.
Import of .obj exports from Sketchup 2015 - odd shading/texturingCan you tell if the item has normals set in Sketchup? If you look in the OBJ, are there lines tarting vn? If you do have vn lines try selecting them and deleting them before importing.
Import of .obj exports from Sketchup 2015 - odd shading/texturingOccasionally when importing a mesh as .obj from Sketchup, I get this as a result - the shading looks well.. odd.. and renders after appying a shader still look off.. Does anyone have any insight into what the problem is, an how to correct it? The same thing happens even after importing the .obj into Bryce and re-exporting.. and its not with every model exported from Sketchup, either..
Thanks
Feet and Inches?? For a scene8068 said:Hi
I'm trying to do a architectural rendering in Carrara. If need be I can go Back to Sketchup, but I haven't used sketchup in a while and never really cared for the rendering options.
So It would be easier to Build and Render in Carrara.
Any plug in or easy way to deal with feet and inches in a Carrara 8 or 8.5 Scene. The room is about 10 feet by 17 feet so I could make a scene with a whole lot of inches but that seems like a PITA. Any Ideas?
Thanks
BradUse the medium scale scene?
You can also set the gird size to feet and use that when modeling. If you need to enter a feet value in a field that defaults to displaying inches, simply type ft after the value and Carrara will convert it. If it's not allowed or out of range, Carrara will tell you.

BradGoogle Warehouse to 3Dxchange to DAZ Studiodepends on how the sketchup model is made
many have ngons and backwards normals etc
they usually need cleaning up in a modeling program, iClone is a lot more forgiving than DAZ of such things
the sketchucation obj exporter gives a better result in my opinion but still can be pretty crappy
also in 3DXchange or preferably sketchup try deleting backface meshes if any as are duplicates and the white bits you see, it may still export complete though sadly
saving as an iProp first with hidden not imported might workISO: Helicarrier-like VesselI just found another airborne one that doesn't look as much like the SHEILD one. It is in sketchup format and you will have to use Sketchup or some other program to convert it to obj or fbx

Hmm, Pluralsight bought Digital Tutors, and now ye can access all of Pluralsight's coding stuff if you had a subscription for either site. Pretty cool, even though I don't think I'll ever be having much use for server information and stuff - Javascript maybe, but even that's a longshot :lol:I think it was Silo that I was thinking of, or Modo.

Maybe try making some in Google sketchup is my suggestion,
it has a lot of nice tools for such stuff
I would say the visit Sketchup 3D warehouse but since Trimble bought it I am unsure of model usage in games.
Sketchucation has a free obj exporter plugin and many other handy ones or else Autodesk 123D will import skp if lowpoly which yours obviously would be.Is Carrera ever going to be free again?I am basically a noob even though I have had Daz for awhile now. What is killing me is creating the sets. Why won't you make Carrera free so we can create sets for ourselves. Is there another program that we can use to create sets? I have tried to import obj with sketchup but it is too much of a hassle, textures all screwed up and other problems. I'm simply frustrated and I need some answers.
If I don't have Carrera, how can I create sets for my characters? In Blender? But will it be a pain to import as well. I understand that we should buy sets to support our artists and I will but I am on a very fixed budget and can't afford the money right now. Please give me some solid answers so that I can get on with my art. I am a noob and don't understand all of the crazy shortcut terms some people use so please make it basic.
I'm grateful for your time and help

Seeking solution for Carpel Tunnel-ed Right Arm & WristHi everyone
Returned to Carrara recently. Continue to discover nice gems and stuff and finding valuable info on the helpful forum. The first thing I did was making the interface and navigation as friendly as possible (more like Daz Studio basically). Maxed out the keyboard shortcut pretty soon. Soon after I developed a case of carpal tunnel so bad it spreads to my right upper arm and right shoulder. Pain became unbearable I had to stop using Carrara for now or see a physio.
For context, I'm overall healthy and active, and I use the same mouse/ Wacom Intuous inputs for Daz Studio, game engine level editors, SketchUp and ZBrush intensively from time to time, never such issue. Because either they have full shortcut, customizable UI, or 3Dconnexion support. I always maximise use of custom layout and ui whenever available to reduce load on one arm.
It doesn't help that Carrara's keyboard shortcut preference doesn't keep half the time. So the typical step after launching program is to go to Preference and program each keyboard shortcut again. Crazy, I know. But I'm not a perfectionist and do put up with eccentric tools. But tedious click-intensive workarounds such as this will of course add to more right wrist/arm click stress.
At some point I realize how important basic thing like ease of navigation is not just to newcomers, but to everyone, from casual dabblers to advanced hobbyists to pros. CG tools UI FLEXBILITY is fundamental to usage and popularity. DUH...I guess. I'm now more appreciative of what I take for-granted...how pleasureable is moving around in Daz Studio...
I really want to learn Carrara, to make trees, play physics, become a contributing member, make large scene animations, spread the 'most hidden CG gem' gospel etc... Right now I can only drool at Rashad and Wendy's creations. Or... Google for alternatives and solutions while rubbing ointments onto my very ouch-ed right arm and wrist... :(
Temporal solutions I can think of
- report the bugs (setting Dolly to C doesn't keep, XY pan sometimes keep sometimes not, spacebar cannot be assigned....)
- ask for hotkeys for frequently used functions: rewind keyframe, one key to cycle through custom cameras, one key for director camera, one key for set camera position, and dozens other Timeline, scene setup, navigation functions. Basically, hotkey-able higher and lower hierachy essentials like what Daz Studio users get.
- ask for custom menu (ability to move timeline controls to right side). Ability to add/ remove icons from menu. Like Daz Studio users.
- ask for custom icons (also enjoyed by Daz Studio users) so all 3 Remove Unused Masters and a dozen other Carrara eccentricities can be made into icons, instant access or hotkey-able
- ask for 3Dconnexion support, enjoyed by Blender SketchUp LightWave etc.. Also, ironically, enjoyed by Daz Studio users.I'm so desperate to take Carrara work load of my right arm that I tried to reverse engineer a 3DXconnexion script for Carrara digging around their Blender and Max and Modo 3DXware config files. That's how desperate I am lol...
Maybe some plugin genius want to tackle a Carrara keyboard map plugin or 3Dconnexion for Carrara...
Photo to 3D objectVery interesting Phil, it's a sophisticated spline modeler , thanks for making known this to us !
I looked at a tuto of Sketchup, it doesn't seem very easy…
There is also the free package Autodesk with 123D and all the objects to be downloaded here:
http://www.123dapp.com/Gallery/meshmixer/content
(click on 3D Models tab).
Canoma doesn't exist any more but seems to be integrated partially in Photoshop (where ?)
Thank you for these links !
About 3-Sweep, after long research to download it, it appears that it is an Israeli project which is not finalized yet…
