Since all the Genesis editions are free with the program, I would suggest loading them into a scene, one at a time, and see which one you prefer.
Then focus on that figure to make any additional purchases if seeking then a particular character [n.b. these are usually morphs and skins only, no clothing or hair unless otherwise stated]. There are also morph collections that can be purchased for the figures so one can dial in their preferences to whichever percentage they want -- in effect making one's own character. [save out as a shaping preset then].
Keep an eye on the sales, like the grab bag atm which has some lovely characters in it, as well as some pose sets -- for the Genesis 3 figures. {remember to apply the coupon to get the sale price}
Whether you choose to go for a realistic or toon-type character is totally up to you. Even with realistic props, they can be rendered with toon rendering options so everything can go together in a scene.
If you see an outfit that is similar to clothing you want on the figure, esp. if it's on sale, you can purchase that. Take a photograph of your own clothing to get a fabric swatch ... then use that in an image editor along with the clothing's template {often found in the Product Library as a separate download - or - one can use another program or take a screen shot of the uvview in D/S [just keep the images square] and somehow apply your fabric image to the template [go over the seams at least a couple of pixels so that the seams won't show when rendered in D/S].
You will see in the forums people talking about converting clothing and poses, and while all this is possible, it is a lot easier to start off with using stuff that was made for the figure one wants to use.
And have fun! :-)

A have a question about this bundle. Gladys the Gamer is listed as required product but there is no promo shot of a morph of her. Is she maybe a requirement for Bryana along with Beverly? Bryana's promo shot says nothing about it.
There is, but it's not obvious which one:

Ah, not what I expected. Not exactly my cop of tea either. :/
I'm wondering, if you bought the bundle, is it possible to install only parts of it?

rigging AI images as blimps using Transfer Utility
Interesting (and cute); where do the blimps come in? I'm obviously missing something regarding using the AI images with Transfer Utility.
-- Walt Sterdan
I should have explained but there ae a few ways to create them, you need the background removed
this one is a cutout with volume created using a Carrara plugin by Philemo
I have also used Alpha to Mesh in Zbrush and masking and extract under subtools to make them
basically any modelling program that can cut out a silhouette/billboard and give it some volume like a cushion
the Carrara one the UV matches the image
initially so does the Zbrush ones but I end up Zremeshing them and then creating a planar UV and projecting the image on using Polypaint and Spotlight
or you can do that in a UV mapping program as the shape of the island still the same if planar it just needs scaling if image not square
Wendy, your skill set is amazing!
How to manually fit Gen 8 hair to Genesis 9?Thank you for your help MSMCDesigns.
I found this tutorial on YouTube.
It appears this method uses a morph and parenting to fit the hair to the top of the Gensis 9 head.
Tutorial: How to Fit (Poseable) Hair to Genesis 9
I did not think I could follow along with this video because the detail was too small but the written directions were a big help and very clear.
Muting the sound helped to not be as distracted.
I saved the hair as an subset

[Released] RSSY Character And Material Conversion Bundle Genesis 8 to Genesis 9 [Commercial]so came across a weird issue. Batch Converter.
Miriam Convertion results were: Head Morph dial, Body Morph dial, Master dial for both.
using the master dial works great, however using the independant dials the morphs are burger meat.A little confused on why, and why it is such a rampant issue with the convertions.
I have way more morphs that are borked than are not. Weather i use custom converter or the batch process.
Master Dial Works Fine:

I renamed the file to RSSY Genesis 8 Male Body Suit.duf. This worked for the skin. I don't know why the morph is correct now. But I had deleted the TEMP.
I am glad you found the issue separately.
You said, "...don't know why the morph is correct now" Is that a bad thing? Are you looking for help for something?I'm not sure yet. Clearing the temp worked here. For others, Original DAZ, it didn't work. I'll get back.

This is a good conversion, though I have no idea wtf is up with the teeth, tear and eyelashes.
Obviously some morph is doing that. If it was the eyes, I would think it is the extra eye morph that automatically triggers when the main morph is engaged that is causing the problem. It is probably something similar here. I have asked SickleYield for her advice.
We are baffled. Double check everything's conformed to the suit, not to G9, as that can trip some people up. Otherwise, make sure all morphs are nuked for that one and try again.
[Released] Rupert HD for Genesis 9 [Commercial]I just noticed that there is no Eye follower morph for this character.
Even in promos his eyes arent really in the eye socket properly.

Well, it looks like what I'm after isn't doable. What I had in mind was being able to take a shirt or a pair of shorts and, using a dial morph, change them gradually into long sleeves or pants. Thanks for the input, everyone.
The product I named as above just used the approach and techniques you're bearing in mind... just go for checking if you have interest... https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-multi-dress-system-for-genesis-8-females
So it doesn't use geografting at all?
Nope, morphs only.

Mechasar's Characters Catalog: Who's next? (commercial)I love the new addons! Zuno is amazing; I don't think I've ever seen a masculine morph for G8F that handles the chest and overall body shape so well. I'm mostly using G9 now (and I would love to see G9 versions of any of your characters), but I may have to pick Zuna and Esra up regardless.
My 2023 Daz Studio Animation DemosThis awesome fellow is using the Walker morph from TheAntFarm cranked all the way up. He's really cool. We'll see him in future episodes.

Daz renders with CPU and not GPU, very weird...Richard Haseltine said:
I am getting a little confused about you RAM usage reports - the amount of system RAM used before rendering is not really relevant as that reflects what DS needsfor working - it will have things that Iray doesn't need loaded (all the joint and morph information, for example) but not, by default, the full resolution geometry for SubD figures nor the full resolution maps. When it prpares the scene for Iray it will bake out full resolution versions of the geometry (which is why it will need more RAM then) and Iray will load those and the full versions of the maps, depending on its compression settings, into the GPU memory - if it can.
Thanks. I understand everything you say. The RAM usage reports I wrote were before and during rendering. On both PC's before rendering it's about 8 gb. When makes all the process you mentioned, it jumps on the lap (40gb RAM) from 8 to 17 gb, from 40% usage to 65% aprox and stays there. On desktop (16gb) jumps from 8 to 10gb, from 80% to 95%, and then lowers to 70%
My big questions are these:
Why the different RAM usages between both PCs? Why does DAZ needs more RAM usage on a PC that has more RAM? I understand it maybe that the lap has 8gb VRAM and the desktop has 12 VRAM. But then, why before upgrading my laptop from 16gb RAM to 40 gb, it worked exactly as the desktop, only using 10 gb RAM in the pre=rendering process?
Why a PC that uses 95% of 16gb RAM can render with GPU while another that uses 65% of 40gb RAM can't? Why does the PC with less RAM then lowers its usage while the other doesn't?
Thanks.

How do I reset the Animated Timeline from 30 to 0 without changing anything?rosseliani said:
You should first export the dress as .obj as it is dForce shaped at frame 30 before clearing the animation. Saving a pose preset doesen't save the dForced dress.
Then use Morph Loader Pro to retrieve the shape of the dress meant for your pose preset.
Apply your morph to the dress, ERC Freeze (edit mode), then save as Morph asset.
I'll keep that in mind.
The thing with this situation was that I hadn't applied the dForce to the dress yet. The yellow arrow was on 30 but the dress was out-of-box, and whenever I reset it to 0, the whole scene would get screwy.
