The I Miss the Old Days Complaint Thread

Complaint: Who put all the junk in my DAZ wishlist?
My eye caught the "$5 DAZ Originals" offer at the top of the page today and decided (after months of not caring) to see if there was anything on my wishlist that was eligible. A quick look confirmed that there was just one $5 item, right at the top of the sorted (low to high) list, then following it was a whole bunch of higher priced stuff that I don't recognize. After going through several pages of my wishlist I decided that it does indeed contain some things that I remember that I'd drooled over in a past life, but there's a whole bunch of stuff in the list that I absolutely do not remember
, nor do I currently have any desire for.
I'm not certain if I was stoned/intoxicated/sleepy when I put them in the list, or if now, I'm so senile that I simply can't remember putting those items on the list.
There is no female stuff in my list so it was probably me that snagged all those items for my list. However, I'd rather blame it on forum/store software problems and hackers. So, anybody admit to tinkering with my list?

What $5 offer? I'm not seeing one.
Daz Studio and LinuxFor me, the category section isn't populating, so I'm guessing that is why I don't have any tags or ability to filter search.
I'll look into it later it's not that big a problem right now as not everything has metadata to search anyway(older stuff).
Currently I'm installing my Steam library.
Civ6 plays very well.
Benchmarks show me being better or equal to the 99th percentile for performance with my RTX 3060
Gathering Storm bench dipped into the 50FPS range occasionally during the "Heavy AI" benchmark.
I'm happy with that.
Right now waiting for all 100GB of Fallout 4 to download so I can test it.

Theres a few problems though.
DIM won't save my password and the "Remeber Me" box is greyed out and not selectable.
A few days ago Smart Content stopped recognizing tags.
It still Sorts things correctly.
When I Select a character in the scene it will show me the clothes , etc,etc But if I type in a search it won't show anything.
nvidia-libs only seems to work with the General Release. I've not gotten it to work with the beta yet.
The linux nvidia driver is behind a few versions. So I'm guessing thats the problem.
...also dforce works just fine in the General Release.
Thank you for the details!
That looks good for me, though. I'm not relying on saved passwords, and i might want to implement my own search and selection dialogs anyway. (Though, will i? ...)

this is why they added Filament I guess
it needs to be working properly (cutout opacity, glow, shadow) and for every operating system though
Filament is a drawstyle, not a full renderer.
but why does that have to exclude Mac users who cannot use Nvidia either
As far as I know it's a version issue - Filament needs a newer version of the Qt framework than DS was built with.
as for Windows users, I render videos with openGL sometimes too, just being a drawstyle does not mean it cannot be used for something you are going to postwork or need a quick video done to demonstrate something
if users cannot use a Nvidia card for some reason it's a good alternative to 3Delight and considerably faster than CPU based iray so why not add the omitted features

Announcing: Daz Deals Browser Add-on IIAti said:
Hi guys!
I'm not fully back yet, but working on it. :)
I haven't caught up with the forum messages yet, but I'm popping in to let you know:
I will be performing maintenance and expansion on our backend server tomorrow, and some functions will not be available for about an hour. This will take time sometime in the early afternoon, UTC time.
I will post another message when everything is done.
Glad to see you back, Ati :)

ding ding ding, don't know who he is but we have a winner.
I had to think of Chord Overstreet as well, but Chord has very distinctive cheeks and Rupert does not.
Icons on installed content (Smart Content view)deleted original reply as it isn't needed anymore.
Update: I first uninstalled Isae through DAZ Central. Then in DAZ Studio I went under Content Library\Products\I and deleted the Isae entry. After reinstalling Isae via DAZ Central, the picture is displayed properly in DAZ Studio. I did this same fix for another product (dforce breezy day outfit textures), but now it isn't showing up in Smart Content. When I search for other products that have texture addons, they show up in Smart Content searches. This breezy day outfit addon does not and I do not see it listed as a separate item in Content Library. Any idea how to restore that?

That's it. Been driving me nuts. Thank you :D
[OUT NOW] Celebrity Red Carpet Environment [Commercial]Are your monitors calibrated? Many uncalibrated monitors (and TVs) are extremely bright by default. I hesitated to say anything at first, because I thought it may have just been your artistic vision for the set. Maybe these were supposed to be night scenes. But I decided to speak up, anyway, because I think it would limit sales to have such dark promo images. It would be interesting to see what other forum users think.
Here are a couple examples of what Photoshop thinks needs to be done to enhance monochromatic contrast. Notice how Photoshop believes the original images are very underexposed.

And then the algorithm spits out those pieces (along with pieces from other consumed parts) based on the prompt.
Except for the millionth time, it never "spits" them back out in the exact same configuration as the image that it was trained on. Photoshop tutorials literally tell people to search for a texture on Google, save it to your computer, then paste it into your scene where necessary for a background or to add grunge or roughness to your scene - which is closer to actually stealing art than what the AI is doing. Also, you can "put a pretty little tree over there" wherever you want using inpainting, and the AI will adjust the lighting on that tree to match your scene as well (which it couldn't really do if it was actually copying a tree it got from another image, could it?).
and that would not be allowed in an environment where rights management mattered, because it would stand a good chance of opening the door to being sued. Something being suggested in a tutorial does not guarantee that it is legitimate.
UltraScenery - new territory [Commercial]I tried a search in Props by 'Ultra' and along with UltraScenery the UltraTree products showed up.
I looked at the only other main forum post, which was on The Commons. There doesn't seems to have been a Commercial thread. The product was mentioned here, in Novica's thread and a couple others. Just pull up the promo in the store for the latest links.

Aren't search engines essentially putting images into databases too? Nobody cares about that. And what if the AI would instead browse the web in real-time while learning, without putting anything into a separate database?
Is there even a law against saving an image somewhere? I thought it was only the usage of that image. Nobody cares if I save a copy of it to my computer to look at it later. Or am I wrong?
It's not about people looking at the pictures or saving the pictures to their computers to look at later. It's about people profiting from other people's copyrighted works without any permission or compensation given back to the original artist.
Think of it this way. Midjourney uses an AI dataset that was scraped from hundreds of thousands of copyrighted works. They turn around and charge a subscription fee for people to use their service...that was trained off of copyrighted work without any compensation back to the artists who essentially created that dataset. Even further...there are people using Midjourney and other tools (Stable Diffusion et al) to spit out pieces...and then turn around and re-sell said pieces...thus adding an additional layer of profit off of copyrighted works.
If someone wants to train their own dataset on their own work and then use it to remix or create new works to sell...totally fine by me (minus the environmental impacts if everybody were to all of a sudden start training their own AI's). But this is such a small % of use cases.
Well, yes but it's a fine line and brings us back to square one. Did the AI not simply use publicly available images to learn? Isn't it what humans do too with images that they see and copy in style? It may seem obviously wrong but it's an unprecedented situation that will have to be solved in court. I can certainly understand the concerns of artists, I mean, I'm an artist myself. But I can also find arguments for the other side. This isn't just a case of "you're profiting off of my stolen images", it's also "I put these images on the web for everyone to see, I can not prevent someone from learning how to draw in the same fashion". There is no copyright on the looking-at, analyzing and learning part. There may be an issue with the end result if it looks too much like some other image, but then that would have to be solved on a case-by-case basis. And with the sheer number of images in circulation, it'll probably be a nightmare. Like how many different ways are there to draw the Eiffel Tower.
But the AI physically saves and and breaks down the images into the format it needs to learn. And then the algorithm spits out those pieces (along with pieces from other consumed parts) based on the prompt. The process is described a couple pages back and is wonderfully put together. It's not like a person who looks at images and then tries to emulate someone's style. Not like me when I first started out looking at Shiba Shake's artwork and saying something to the effect of "wow, I really love their style...that's totally the look I'm going for"...and then practicing and practicing and practicing til I developed my own style. When the AI responds to a promt, it's not like Bob Ross thinking to itself that it's going to put a pretty little tree over here this one time just to see how things go. There's no thought/feeling and no anthropomorphization. It's a machine that is performing calculations based on following a prescribed algorithm. As already explained, the same prompt and seed will always result in the same output regardless of what machine it is run on or who inputs the promt.
I was going to buy the 200 face morphs helpUmless a product says it is a Merchant Resource, then it cannot be used to sell or share any part of a character. This product does say there is a Merchant Resource document included in PDF form, but I have no ideas the terms and conditions under which they can be used and how. ZEVO has threads in the commercial forum for these products, so you can ask, or pourchase it to see and if not, then return it. Same goes for skin textures. It has to be original work or a Merchant Resource. Keep in mind that most Merchant Resourcea do not allow for free characters, only commercial. Most PAs these days just create their own morphs in a modeling program like blender
