G3 not being supported is not the best example because G3 is like a beta run for G8+. They are very close except G3 is more limited and only G3 thing that does not convert to G8+ are HD morphs.

With G9 there's going to be generational split in the Daz user base. This is how it's going to play out.

It's going to be similar to split with V4/M4 where quite a number of people stayed with this base and didn't move at all.

G3-G8+ products reached levels of saturation where, if one is considering those generations good enough for their needs, there's no need to exit this comfort zone (or to buy anything new which is not the best for PAs out there so for a PA it's better to move to G9 and to do so fast).

But people who started with Daz closer to the tail end of G8+ life or when G9 was introduced will move on to the new.

    ...interesting assessment.

I started in this when Gen3 and 4 were the "latest and greatest

I'm now one of those who is perfectly content with 3 and 8 as I have a large resource to draw from for developing my own custom characters. Originally I was not interested in adopting G8 as I saw little in the way of a major advancement like 3 was to 2 so I hesitated for a while as it also became tiring and expensive having to "retool" every two years (I hadno Idea G8 was going to last as long as V4)   However, what caught my eye was the greater diversity in new figures and characters beyond  the core Daz "stable" (Vicky, Mike, Aiko, Josie, et al).  I had wished there had been such interesting and diverse characters for G3 and even earlier generations.

I also discovered that G8 given its incredibly wide variety of  different characters, shapes, and resource content, solved a number of vexing issues I had with previous generations for developing certain types of characters.  The fact there is a reasonable amount of similarity between 3 and 8 (which originally turned me away) I realised it was a perfect platform for expanding my custom character development work (particularly with Zev0's Xtransfer which will also transfer morphs imported into G3 through GenerationX giving me what I refer to as oone heck of a "gene pool" to work with)

Another part Part of my reluctance this time around is also due to the fact I no longer am working and am on a meagre fixed pension, so even more, I have to watch what I purchase to make sure it will be something that will be used for my illustration and story work.  With prices not just here going up, it is bewcoming more and more difficult to keep up anymore.

3D graphics is unlike other more "tangible" hobbies due to the EULA that doesn't allow one to resell or "trade in" digital assets.  When you are coupon clipping before your next grocery trip, and looking for other ways to economise, the thought of "dumping" what has become a hefty investment made over the years for the next new "shiny" seems a frightful waste, so one somtimes has to step back and make the best of what he or she has.

BTW I also avoided 8.1 because of the incompatibilities it had even with G8. If anything feels like a "beta", it is 8.1.(for G9).

[...apologies for all the edits but it's very late (04:00)]

Well, if the store will keep rolling more of the same as it was with G3 and G8 then really there won't be any reason for me to move away from G8+ "good enough" zone because how many battle skirts, combat heels and glamour outfits one might need? Very much all permutations of this were already made, so...  \_(^_^)_/

Also, when it comes to cheesake and beefcake shots,  G8 also is going to cover this better because this generation is more stylized and modellish than G9.

But that's far less about G9 and far more about the store tendencies.

  • Adding or saving mesh offset to an existing prop

The push modifier is a live efect, so the only way to keep it is on the item it is applied to - though you can of coruse export as OBJ and then load as a morph (using the same preset for both operations).

  • Genesis 8 Male - Eyelashes not aligned/attached

    Hello good people.

I come to you with a bit of a issue that I'm currently facing and I have no idea what might have caused it.

I was fiddling with a G8 Male character of mine to update few things here and there and zooming in on his face, I did realize that the eyelashes were detached from the lid itself.
I though, per usual, that I did something wrong. Maybe some morph were upsetting the model and for good measure I decided to load a pristine G8M ... but you can see yourself that the issue persists.

I went and check some old renders of mine and the issue wasn't there so it has to be recent? Something that I've installed perhaps?

I've also tried with Genesis 8.1 Male figure and it works like a charm, no matter what face morph you slap, the lashes are properly attached and moves accordingly.

    Any idea/suggestions?

Also I cannot attach files for some unknown reasons ...
I'll link a g-Drive link with the two screenshots and the log file

There is a problem with the evil pumpkin and fruit. When the lips are closed, adjusting the eye direction makes the eyes pop out of the head. I submitted a help request 6 days ago, but customer service has not responded. I also submitted a help request at the same time  about missing texture files in the DIM installer for the fruit addon, but I haven't had any customer service response to that one either.

Yeah, it seems there’s a missing link between morph and eyes bones. Sorry, my oversight. I’ll submit the fixed morph as soon as possible, but if you won’t wait I can show you how to solve it definitely in just a few steps (I'm unable to attach any image at the moment, but I'll post it sooner, so please stay tuned). Sorry again, and thank you for your patience! Any other question, please ask.

  • Gibbons (Lesser Apes)

Hypertaf just released a new monkey for G9!

    https://www.daz3d.com/chocos-the-monkey-for-genesis-9

Since gibbons are superficially monkey-like, this may be more viable for a lesser ape than one of the great apes...

I'm thinking: hide the tail, get a G9 body morphs set for the limb proportions (I just discovered that G9 has a few basic morphs built in!), try to alter the fur color (which has a version with the white rim around the face and a fully black eye preset!! (+a texture add-on)), and I wouldn't need to get the extra face morph set that I'd need for altering the G8 chimpanzee or gorilla.

    This may be the way...

(coincidentally, the gibbon character I'd like to make is based on a beloved childhood toy I had that while labelled a gibbon was a generic monkey model, inaccurate tail and all)

    igorbatistadocarmo said:

I had been working on this character for a while and after I was done - when I rendered a scene - I saw that there was this weird thing in her mouth.

The upper teeth deformed. I do not know how. Does anyone know how to fix?

I'm going to leave the image in a link on the mega because I can't load it in the post:

    https://mega.nz/file/OhEnXabD#Vh9Z4po-IUqmvatF_8JT4ZmZcPyeP484MOZZaDyMOZU

It's likely being done by a morph. With the figure selected, on the Parameters Tab find the active morphs and dial them out until you find the one that needs correcting. [could be for shape or a morph pose].

If product was sold at Daz3D, a ticket into CS should start the process of getting it fixed. {try downloading/installing a fresh copy though in case it was already fixed}.

In the meantime this is one way to fix some morphs.

  • Clothing and undressed morph issues.

Quite often there'll be clothing for sale with morphs for various states of undress, they look good with the intended poses, which is fine, if it's something other than the default A or T poses. These morphs, which are the selling point of the clothing in my opinion, become useless as soon as you start bending the torso or limbs due to the rigging. Now I've exported these to blender and fixed minor problems in the past, I've even deleted bones, with limited success, but I'd like to know if there is a way inside of Daz to disable the auto follow?

  • Adding or saving mesh offset to an existing prop

Thanks, Richard. If I save the prop as a new prop, will that include the push modifier in it? Is there a way to save just the push modifier to an existing prop without have to save it as a new prop? The same way you can save a morph to an existing figure or prop without having to save the prop as a whole new product?

i have quite a few characters with this issue, when i dial in just the head morph it will morph the body as well morph values that are nothign to do with the original character morph. Body morph is great but not the head.

Do you have the latest update?  It is more forgiving in using FHM or "Head" to identify a head morph.  If the script cannot recognize a morph as a head morph, it cannot restrict its effects to just the head.  If you check the log after a conversion, you can find where the script identifies which morphs it is converting are head morphs, body morphs, or other.

I am away from my Daz computer, but perhaps no path is showing because you are pulling up the properties for 2 morphs? Based on the png path, the morph is probably in My Library/data/Daz 3D/Genesis 9/Base/Morphs/Mousso/Miriam

Do you know what causes two copies to be produced during conversion?

If, for some reason, the vendor and product name is reported differently from the Daz Database, you could get two copies.  Also, if you changed the output directory between executions, it could output to different root directories.

  • Diffeomorphic - What is the latest process of Blender animation to Daz3d (MHX)?

    Padone said:

Yes the importing of custom morphs for figures has been considerably improved and made easier. Now you can use baked correctives and daz favorites. Then dforce clothing was implemented some time ago and there's no improvement there, that is, you have to know how to use the blender simulation tools to work with it.

Another feature we added that you may like is softbody simulations.

One word of advice. Do not try to use blender the same as daz studio, this is the worst thing you can do. Blender is not daz studio and has its way to do things, often much better. So don't import thousands of morphs but only those you need for animation, all the others will be baked in the dbz. Also you may want to avoid HD figures and environments as they are not meant for animation and degrade the viewport and rendering speed considerably, other than requiring much more memory to work. That is, not everything that's in the daz shop makes sense in blender, some things make sense only in daz studio.

    https://bitbucket.org/Diffeomorphic/import_daz/wiki/Import/Easy Import DAZ

    https://bitbucket.org/Diffeomorphic/import_daz/wiki/Advanced/Simulation

I am getting used to the peculiarities of Blender and know that it is conceptually different to DAZ Studio. It might be a bit of a task to decide which morphs to include as favourites and which to bake but I guess that will come with experience. I have a LOT of morph packs and I use them extensively in DAZ Studio. When I animate in DAZ Studio I like to see muscle movement for greater realism, for example, so I need that flexibility.  I agree about HD and I tend to avoid it anyway because it causes lots of poke-through issues in IRay renders. So I would not use th HD exporter for Diffeo.

Other issues for me have to do with trying to understand the more advanced features. I get very confused in trying to understand how IK/FK works, for example. Also, Blender has a Non Linear approach to animation which is very difficult to achieve in DAZ Studio - I think than Aniblocks can be used but I don't play with them much anyway.
