Tips for searching the forums and store
I am just using the basic forum search or store search options found at or near the top of the forum pages or store pages.
Tips for searching the forums and storeWhat methods are you using to search?
Tips for searching the forums and storeHello,
Whenever I have a question regarding an item or product that has been used, or if I am looking for a specific forum thread or product in the store, I try to do a search before I post a question. However, it seems that my searching skills are not very good as I am frequently unable to find what I am looking for, while other folks seem to be able to hunt things down with more success.
So I would like to know if anyone has any tips that can help me to better search the forums and store, or point me towards an existing forum thread that can give me tips on how to do better searches?
Thanks in advance for any replies.

Best way to Splice and Combine Assets? (Combining shoes and hair)RawArt said:
hair you might be able to somewhat mix and match by hiding parts....and using a hair shader set to match things up https://www.daz3d.com/colorwerks-hair-shaders-for-iray
Yeah, that's the method I've pretty much been using but hoping someone has another method especially when combing more than 2 the same way. For instance I have 1 hair for the front, another for the middle part, another for the braid, and a final for the hair under the braid.I only have one autofitted to the head the others are grouped seperately but parented all with the same shader. Would be nice if I could combine all the parts I'm using into one instead of saving the hair as a subscene and merging it into my scene every time I want to use it.

In principle a modelling apllication (e.g. Hexagon or Blender) could do the job, but mixing different heel heights might be tricky - and you would have to redo the rigging for the new item.
Ahh didn't think about rigging since I always adjust using the high heel slider. Assuming I went with Blender do you know offhand a good place to start-like what might be good search keywords or even better tutorials you could point me in the direction of? The things I've found seemed to be more about editing ONE item and bringing it back without errors...
Thanks for the help/ideas so far!
The Mystery DressThat is a promo from https://www.daz3d.com/leisa-8 - a search for that character didn't throw up any enquiries about the dress, though, so if it has been asked before (and it does seem familiar) they didn't give the product name for the source either.

Uploads finally working again.
I redid the Santa hat with Carrara hair per Stezza's request.
Adding the hair wasn't difficult, but getting the lighting right took a lot of fiddling. And unlike what I have heard recently on this forum, Carrara hair loads very slowly - even with 24 buckets. Testing the lighting took a couple of hours. I do love having the hair available to use - but it ain't fast. :)

Font size in DAZDaz does not respect the global font scaling, at least on Windows 11. But there is a partial fix in Windows 10 & 11.
Light text on a 27" monitor is readable but on a 32" monitor it becomes one pixal wide and almost semi-transparent.. Can't imagine a 42" monitor. The problem is worse with HDR on. The problem is worse if your layout is white text on a dark background.
The fix:
-Close Daz
-locate the DAZStudio.exe file or the shortcut you use to start Daz
-Right click and select select properties
-Click Compatibility tab
-In the settings box click Change high DPI settings
-Select the box under Program DPI (Use the setting to fix scaling problems...)
-Under High DPI Scaling Behavior, select the Override high scaling behavior box
-Under that select System in the drop down box.
-Clcik Ok, Apply, Ok
-Close the properties window
-Restart Daz
This does not make the text any larger but does make the light text much easier to read.
This has to be done every time DAZ is updated
You can also try running the ClearText app for Windows to make all the text on your pc easeir to read. In the windows search bar type "cttune" and run through it on the monitor (and color space) that you run Daz on.
Okay, how painful will it be to jump to the latest Daz?Welp, so far Version 4.21 is really, really good!
...at crashing to desktop.

I could not find the original Daz install exe from 2020, but I do have the 4.16 program on my old drive. Could it be ported over to the new one? If I recall, many Windows programs need to be on the Main hard drive (C:, for example) to run.
If you're curious:" "DAZStudio.exe caused ACCESS_VIOLATION in module "C:\Program Files\DAZ 3D\DAZStudio4\QtCore4.dll" at 0033:00000000671F3977, QString::~QString()+7 byte(s)"
EDIT: Also I am stubborn, always have been (much to dismay of my parents), so I expect I will spend as long as it takes installing, uninstalling, reinstalling, driver-tweaking, and forum-browsing.
Also I do like some of the new features, like the option to save or not save render settings. It also seems to run more quickly (when it runs, that is)
Need info for Face Morph Kit for Genesis 8 FemaleThanks for the info, Catherine. It was in the parameters tab. Had to search for in by initials. Good guess on the search term. You can't always trust it being initials. You just have to know how to search for it because I still haven't found where they hide the Readmes. I wish that they would list the Readme locations on the sales page. From what I have been able to find in the past are more than one place it can be placed. And it wasn't in either of them.
Not sure what you meant by your last sentence.
Just tried searching for the other two by initials but neither worked. Bummer.Diana from V (80s TV show) (outfit)Anyone know of an outfit(s) similar to the uniforms Diana wore in the 80s TV Show V? Here are a bunch of images: diana v tv show - Google Search

With the figure or main part selected, they should be over on the Parameters Tab someplace. In the Search box could try typing "FMK" to find some of them.
There is supposed to be a readme in the package too.
Similiar idea for the others.
IF the morphs are not encrypted, one could be opened in a text editor, use the search method to find "group" and that should be where it's to be found on the Parameter Tab.
Wedding BandGo to Renderosity freestuff and type in ring in the search, you get a lot.

and here's a box for the ring and all of these are free for commercial and non commercial use
Batch Subset loader / scene fixerHi everyone, I need some help.
I'm sure we all know this case when you create twenty scenes off of the same base scene, then realize there is a light missing, you forgot a background item or character etc. Simple to fix by creating a subset of the items you want to add - and literal hell to manually go through opening 20 files, merging the same subsets twenty times, then saving them and re-rendering them.
In theory, this sounds relatively simple, and I even think I have most of it down by copy-pasting a lot of code from various forum threads together. But I am a complete noob with Daz Scripts (though full-time dev in my day job), and I can't seem to find proper tutorials or documentation, no matter how hard I look. No idea how you guys learned Daz Script in the first place :S
Here is what I have so far:
(function () {
// How can I load both scene and subset lists via file dialog?
var aScenesToAddTo = ["D://testfiles/1.duf", "D://testfiles/2.duf"]
var aSceneSubsetsToAdd = ["D://testfiles/subsets/1.duf", "D://testfiles/subsets/2.duf"]
var oAssetIOMgr = App.getAssetIOMgr();
for (var i = 0; i < aScenesToAddTo.length; i++) {
var sScenePath = aScenesToAddTo[i]
var sPathSplits = sScenePath.split("/")
var sSceneName = sPathSplits[sPathSplits.length - 1]
print(sSceneName)
var oResult = oAssetIOMgr.doLoad(sScenePath)
if (oResult.valueOf() != 0) {
print('Couldnt load original scene ',sSceneName,'. error message: ', oResult.valueOf(), getErrorMessage(oResult))
}
else{
for (var i = 0; i < aSceneSubsetsToAdd.length; i++) {
print("loading subset: ", aSceneSubsetsToAdd[i])
// how can I load/merge scene subsets?
}
// how can I quietly save the file in its original location without save dialog?
oSettings.setBoolValue("CompressOutput",false);
oSettings.setBoolValue("RunSilent",true);
//how to save over the current file?:
oAssetIOMgr.doSaveWithOptions(oAssetIOFilter,oSettings,true,"g:/frame000"); // No ".duf" in the file path }
} print("My job here is done!")
})();
Thanks in advance for any help you can give!
4k monitor recommendations?To get 4K on the monitor, you need to have a graphics card and connection that pushes 4K.... right?
Anyway... at 27" or less, you are probably better off with a 2K (2560x1440) montitor...
"The WQHD (2560×1440) resolution is ideal for 27-inch monitors. At this resolution, you’ll be at around 108 PPI – a really good balance between picture clarity, detail, and screen size.
Additionally, 1440p allows for higher refresh rates than 4K — that is, if your PC system can handle it, giving you a much greater framerate overall. And speaking of nearing 4K Ultra HD in terms of gaming, opting for a 4K experience can have quite an effect as well."
Since this is a Creator forum, I am assuming that this is for content creation more than gaming
The I Miss the Old Days Complaint Thread...I've been using Google as a search engine ever since I got my first notebook and a a Gmail account for just as long. Had FF as my original browser, but with each update it began to bloat badly during a session and slow down so I dumped it for Chrome. (never bothered with IE as its security was like having a screen door on the ISS) I do have a very good AV and firewall so I may just tough it out and stay with Chrome until I can do the W11 upgrade.

Google and Yandex are the two best.

So Sorry for the confusion, I will amend my original post. Thx. TD
Not your fault. It seems to me that when you select "All" in the Parameters tab and search "vein" or "veins", those morphs should appear. I find that search function to be a bit odd. This isn't the only instance where I've encountered issues with the Search function.
The I Miss the Old Days Complaint ThreadNot sure if this is a complaint or not... in fact I don't know what the hell I'm going on about here, but I felt like saying it here where it's probably less likely to be read in general and perhaps less likely to be taken as a criticism of someone's work.
Every now and then I click on a thread that references a model I haven't seen before, asking about some feature or visual problems with the model... sometimes I'm even looking at the store and I'm scanning over stuff and something catches my eye and I'm like "What the...?"
Recently I clicked on a thread that had a link to a product that was a model of a fairly common structure in the US I feel that particularly item may not have been something the creator was at all familiar with in any way, manner or form... in fact it kinda feels like they guessed at it entirely...
(Please don't try to figure out what item made me write this... I don't want to be picking on anyone... this has been something I've been noticing for a while, so it's not actually this one item, but it did inspire me to say something)
Its clearly not a fantasy version of the item or a low polygon game model… it’s more like “I heard the word once in a noisy room and maybe this is what it looks like based on that?” version…
It's not an unusual item... when the real item isn't being used in its most common or intended application, a version is still a common sight at construction sites, used car lots etc... even if you have never really seen one, there's this thing called "Google" and it has this feature called "Images"... and by using it you can see a lot images of things that you might not remember what they actually look like...
Like if I wanted to make a model of, let's say... a highway overpass (this is not the thing I'm bemoaning), I'd probably take a look at one in real life, kinda remember some details, but just to be sure, take a few digital pix to back up what my optic neurons told my brain was going on outside... they are both so full of crap sometimes you can't always trust either to get it right so back up data is always a better bet.
Maybe I was quarantined at home or thought werewolves were stalking me and couldn't go outside, or perhaps I lived in a land without overpasses and had never seen one and only had heard about them from that crazy old prospector at the local tavern... the guy with the one eye, one arm, one leg and half a parrot that I always used to think was a very unfortunate pirate... the guy who is always going on about that one time he woke up under a highway and survived because the highway was raised above the ground using unknown magic and long forgotten architectural techniques... suppose I believed him and was so inspired by his delusional ravings that I desired to make a model of this unbelievable artifact... then, hopefully I'd use the internet to see if others had mentioned these structures too... then I'd probably see that he wasn't that crazy (in this particular case) and these things were fairly common on earth (Prime 3876-D)...
I'd also probably... actually most definitely, download a couple of example images to use as "Reference Images" to keep my efforts on track... this way I didn't make an overpass that had only 28 centimeters of overhead clearance under it and was four thousand meters wide... sometimes drawing or modeling from memory leads to mistakes and while "eyeballing" it without exact dimensions is often more than sufficient for producing a 2D or 3D representation of an object, it's always a good idea to just back that up with the simplest reference material such as a fricken photo...
Using reference photos is fairly cheap... especially if you don't have a coal fired modem... granted, you still need internet access which usually costs money or at least bartering with vegetables and or goats, but I don't know how you are accessing your 3D brokerage shop without internet access unless some are still allowing you to mail the polygons in using traditional postal services or flying rats... and I can't see a lot of polygons fitting in a regular envelope or even those big yellowish-beige "vanilla" ones that taste nothing like vanilla, and never mind those tiny little capsules they strap on the flying rat's legs... but regardless of how you deliver your polygons to market, reference photos are still a very, very, very valuable resource as opposed to just blindly guessing or relying on the rambling hallucinations of a drunken and most likely insane old coot... (coot as in a "crazy or delusional old man" not the aquatic bird somewhat resembling a duck and belonging to the Rail family)...(that species of bird is actually pretty good and accurate at describing stuff)...
I guess what I'm trying to say is...

It's not for me, I'm not going to buy your confusing model... it's for your own growth as a modeler or artist... it makes your stuff look less weirdly inaccurate...It also makes your stuff more valuable as an asset... if someone is looking for an overpass (I wanna stress this again... this overpass is a metaphorical example and not about an actual overpass model... if there is a truly terrible overpass model, that looks more like a duck shaped car park on stilts, that's not what I'm writing about)... (really)... if someone is looking for an overpass model, you want them to choose yours... you get the money... and you want them to be satisfied with what they bought... you don't want them to be like "ew... what the hell?... what is that?..." and chuckle as they click off your product page.
You also don't want people to use a terribly inaccurate, horrible interpretation of such a thing which they might not realize is terrible... say they use it in an illustration and the client is like "What the hell bro... I said the scene takes place on an overpass, not a duck shaped car park on stilts... are you kidding me... this is useless!".... maybe not in those exact words, especially if it's more goose shaped... but if a person loses a contest or gets crap from a client because of a weird model, they probably aren't ever going to buy your stuff again... and since this is the kind of community where people are only really encourage to praise or talk about really good models/published artists, less than good efforts will usual fail with no explanation to the creator.
You want to put your best work out every time.
I'm not talking about making a friggin' engineering model... I'm talking about something where your average customer who is looking for said item and probably has seen the object before doesn't see your product and go "what the fudge puppies... did this person ever see a duck before?... wait... it's an overpass?... what?"
I'm also not talking about poor modeling skills... though there are some items I've seen that qualify as such, I'm talking about things that clearly show decent modeling skills, but a reluctance to embrace any form of accuracy or realism or looking-goodness... your model shouldn't look like a one eyed drunk with half a parrot described it to you in his dying last breaths... it should look like "Excellent! That's exactly what I wanted"... or at least "Megh... close enough..." and never "What the ever living fu....?"
I'm also not talking about trying not to rip off a copyrighted item either and merely make an item "in the spirit of that genre"... no... I mean you full on either didn't care or you guessed at what an overpass looks like...(again it's a metaphorical example, not a real product I'm referring to)... That's an entirely different thing if you want to make a thing that looks like it belongs in the Star Wars universe, but isn't anything particular or directly identifiable, so like it's not an X-wing fighter, but maybe looks like the same company that made the X-wing could have conceivable produced the thing you made, but this bears no direct relation to anything existing.
No...
I'm talking about stuff that is not copyrighted or can be easily represented by a generic eyeballed substitution (example: the Statute of Liberty, but not an engineering grade copy)... just something that's not terribly confusing (like a Statue of Liberty with gibbon length arms and stubby penguin legs holding a misshapen blob that might be a corn cob or a torch or maybe even a lumpy octopus).I keep seeing this kinda stuff lately and maybe it's because it's a statistical anomaly or I've be getting lucky or my eyeballs are just judgemental jerks, but I feel like sometimes stuff like this needs to be mentioned or at least explored conceptually in terms of constructive criticism before it gets out of hand... it doesn't have to be mean or rude... sometimes conservative criticism helps.
Maybe DAZ should encourage new artists to post WIP threads (Work In Progress, not Walrus Intimacy Photos) or create a special mentoring forum for new PAs to post their Work In Progress images for critique by experienced PAs willing to help... I'm thinking that would only make sense if it were a closed forum that was for individuals who've submitted work or sign up specifically for that... not for modeling tips, but for advice about if what they are doing seems to be on the right track or something...
It would definitely be to DAZ's benefit to have more high quality items.
But...
Thats probably a stupid idea because new artists might be viewed as competition... but most of the experienced PAs are kinda cool and I often see them trying to help people out... and really, if its a matter of just saying something like... "it's a really cool model of a modern airliner, but why are the landing gear ducks... and where are the doors and wings?"... That sort expert perspective could make huge difference in a person's efforts and way of making stuff and it's not giving away any secrets and it also encourages a higher quality standard for the store in general and reduces the number of weirdly confusing mistakes and inaccuracies I keep seeing.
But that's just my absolutely stupid opinion and commentary, so I don't see anything ever changing in that regard.
Megh.
Whatever.
Not my monkeys, not my circus... (not literally, just a reference to the saying about a situation that's none of one's business).
