While I've been doing a lot fo different renders, I'd thought I'd start this thread off with this one. I'm quite happy with how the shadows came together.

In school we did this exercise where we would look at a painting, coupled with one line of text, and then have to tell a story about it. This was one of my favorite things. As I keep creating random scenes in Daz, I think I'm going to put together my own little collection. If I can inspire others to create stories of their own, then that's awesome.

So. Tell me a story. What's going on here? Here's a line of text to help. (or ignore)
"Taylor should really pay less attention to her instagram..."

I've been using Daz3d since October 23rd, and I've never once opened a tutorial or sought help from Google.
Last night I figured out dForce. It took all night, but I got it. Attached is a quick 2-hour render with some noise filtering from GIMP.
My experience may not be typical, but I don't believe the software is that difficult to figure out. I should admit that I enjoy doing tedious things, though. These poses, for instance, are done by hand.
Now, I should also mention that I am not an artist by trade. This is the first software of its kind I've ever picked up. I'm a writer, and started using the software just as something to do when I hit a wall or needed to rest my brain. After just a few months, I'm now looking at doing my own book covers. My previous cover artist kept telling me about all these things that this software couldn't do. I'd ask for something (I felt) was reasonable, and he'd say that you couldn't do it in Daz3D. I'd point out some pants or something, and he'd say
"That's for an older model and won't work for the one I use."
With my total lack of experience and my open mind, I've gotten victoria 4 stuff to fit on a Genesis 8 figure, without the shrink-wrap, and rendering nicely. I now have the freedom to produce high-resolution images that my artist refused to do, and as long as I'm willing to work with it, the sky's the limit on what items I can use.
Daz 3D lacks good organization of its catalog. That's my biggest complaint. Search for something simple like "Jeans" and you'll get some results, but you won't see ALL the jeans that are available. Secondary is a lack of good everyday-type clothes and realistic fashions, but I think dForce is starting to make those easier to do. I wish layering were a bit easier, but I've found a nice script in the store that ought to solve my problems. While I'd love for all clothes to just WORK with any figure, I got the time to make it work if its something I really like. Auto-fit could use an update though. I got the Rawr! outfit, and that hat just loses all of its posability if I use autofit on it.
I haven't found the interface especially difficult. Now, if they could just add in a render engine that's AMD-friendly, I'd be one happy renderer!

Hopefully this is a quick one. I'm opening some older files that were saved as scenes, characters etc.

Is there a place that will identify all of the file's original elements? As in, the original actor/character and/or add-ons for that character. Such as, was the original Genesis 1 or G2, and/or Victoria 4, 5, 6, and/or Giselle, Dawn...? That kind of thing. Got some older characters and don't remeber where i started with them as for as reference for clothing, add-ons, and all that.

Another bug (I think):

I'm using the new default render settings, except for the ones you're seeing here (and the hour is set to 10AM, I don't know why it doesn't show).

If I select "Memory" optimization instead of speed, the skin of Analia #45369 (https://www.daz3d.com/fwsa-analia-hd-for-victoria-8) turns red, not just reddish, but truly and fully red. It doesn't happen to Michael 8, even if his skin turns a little bit reddish.

 

I'm new to Carrara and half the way through Phill's tutorials. The reason why I decided animating in carrara instead of daz is because it has a functional IK system. However- while IK works on all other characters - I can't get it to work on M4 & V4 characters. So I select the thigh, click on the IK target on the left panel, and when I click on the foot nothing happens (yes I wait). I tried clicking everywhere on Michael's foot but it's like there is no bone there. Same with Victoria, Aiko, etc. I can select the shin and the toes but not the foot so the IK target to keep the foot firmly placed can't be made. What is noticeable about those figures is that bones don't appear when selected. Hope someone has a solution to this. Thanks in advance

Victoria 4 for Genesis 2 Female   Is this what I'm looking for?

I don't own anything that has "clone shape" in the title. I did a little research and found this Daz product- think it will it do the trick?

Using Auto-Fit - Victoria 4 to Genesis 2 Female

Genesis 2 does not come with a Victoria 4 clone sahpe, that's an add-on product. Are you sure you own that, and that it is installed?

When I drag a clothing article to the Victoria 6 (Genesis 2) character I am getting less options to auto-fit than normal. Victoria 4 does not show which is rather important. All that shows is:

Unsupported, Genesis 2 Male, and Genesis

By comparison, Victoria 7's auto-fits options include Victoria 4, Michael 4, and Genesis 2 Female. How can I get the Victoria 4 auto-fit option to show on a genesis 2 figure?

A lot of the older content for Victoria 4 is in the Poser library and doesn't show up in Smart Content, its too old.  And an outfit can be scattered across two or three categories in the poser section, pose, props, materials etc.  Honestly, its pretty much a crap shoot where things are located.  A lot of it is in the poses folder even though most of the stuff there is not a pose.  Go figure lol.  So the alphabetical list is the best way to find it.  However,  you can make your own custom categories, that way you only have to find the stuff once and you can set it up any way that makes sense to you.  I have a mini tutorial on how to those here, that can help you get started

I've played around in Daz 3D before, but I never really got into it. I decided to try again today, and the first thing I did was go to the shop and download a bunch of the assets that they had marked down to Free. I set up the Asset Manager and waited for all of them to download and install. After that finally finished (I got a bunch of stuff), I started playing around in Daz again and trying to figure out the interface. I did some stuff on my own, did some tutorials, and then stopped for the day. 

But then later on, I thought of one particular item that I had gotten for free, and realized that it wasn't in the list of available wardrobe items for the figure it was supposed to go with (most of the items they're giving for free go with Victoria 4, so that's what I was using). I went back in and looked around for it, searched high and low in the Smart Content tab, and didn't ever find it. Finally, I switched over to the Content Library tab, and found it in the alphabetical listing. It's there, it works fine, everything seems okay except that it (and also other items I downloaded) doesn't show up in Smart Content. 

The alphabetical listing is okay if I know exactly which item I'm looking for, but it's not worth much for browsing around and picking out something that looks good, because it doesn't filter out all the items that don't fit that particular figure. Is there some way to manually import these items into Smart Content, or do I need to just keep an external list of all the items I have for each figure? 

 

So, does this combine the stuff in UltraScatter (original) with new Pro features into one product, or is it a set of new tools/options altogether (i.e. you would still need the original for those original features)  Based on the higher price, I was thinking this "replaces" the original?

UltraScatterPro does contain (and enhances) all of the original script's features.

With the end of the Holiday sale I went ahead and picked up Ultrascatter Pro, even though I already have Ultrascatter. Do I need to uninstall UltraScatter before installing Ultrascatter Pro; or will UltraScatter Pro simply overwrite UltraScatter?

They are separate products. You do not have to uninstall UltraScatter and UltraScatterPro will not overwrite it. (It is just like Victoria 8 doesn't overwtite Victoria 7.)

Thanks. It is nice to know you can have both installed simultaneously; but would there be any reason to keep Ultrascatter when Ultrascatter Pro is supposed to do everything (and more) UltraScatter does?

I think you can get by with just UltraScatterPro. UltraScatterPro does things like rotation maps differently (more intrutively) than the original UltraScatter. But if you have a bunch of rotation maps created that you like to use, that would be a reason you might want to hang onto and use UltraScatter some times.
