    • not list textures (or, at very least, not show textures for items not purchased or in the cart? Or, alternately, "show only textures for purchased items"?)

There's no fields in the store that tells us if an item is a texture set or not.

Ok, sorry - I didn't know if there was perhaps some hidden meta for keyword categorization or something.

    • specify subcategories (like Places, Props, Machinery, Lights, Textures, etc.?)

This exists natively in the store. See the line with the blue background right under the main menus.

But, not if you want to use it with another sorted set - like if you had one of the "View These Artists Together"  PA listings, if you click a category in the top menu, the selections go away.  I guess you could just re-enter them manually for every type of content you wanted to look at, but I was hoping there was a fairly easy way to do it in the code of the plugin.

    • have a locally stored back-up cart? (Suppose you want to us a gift-card sale to buy some other items, so you place those items in the cart to see how much the gift card will have to be, but then you haveto remove them, buy the guift card, then re-load the cart.  What if the plug-in could cookie a cart load, and you cuold just click "Move all items to Cart2" or "Load items from Cart2"?)

This is on our to-do list.

So awesome :)  Thank you! :)

    • Sub-sort - Such as, sort by price, lowest to highest, but only items newer than 1 year?

Please explain what the purpose of this would be. When would you need to do such a thing?

Suppose you have a sale where you buy a qualifying item, then you get this huge list of - for instance - DAZ originals products at a steep discount.  You want to see if there are any so inexpensive that you want to buy them just because they're on sale, so you sort lowest price first.  But you don't want to have to scroll through a thousand products for ten-year-old figures, or, maybe you don't want anything that came out before iray, or something like that.
Actually, any negative boolean capability would be awesome - instead of just clicking for a given qualifier, like G8, if you could exclude unimesh, or exclude certain artists, or anything having to do with "lil" anything, but I don't know how that would work... I mean, suppose something is a G2 asset, but it's also keyworded for Victoria 4 - then a Victoria 4 boolean "NOT" would exclude it, when you want it.
Being able to exclude whole classes by "hide this product" means would be good, too.  It's daunting to think about opening tabs for 100s (1000s?) of "lil" chibi things just to click "hide" on all of them, but I've done it for a lot of them already.

  • Why are Genesis 3 female faces more sexy & attractive than Genesis 8 female faces on average?

This new character came out: https://www.daz3d.com/evelyn--lynn-hd-for-genesis-8-female

The same creator made this character for Genesis 3 female: https://www.daz3d.com/lydia-hd-for-victoria-7

There are definitely improvements in mats/skin shaders, but Evelyn/Lynn is not nearly as attractive as Lydia.

Lydia (Below) is far more attractive than the character above.   The char above is Genesis 8.  The character below is Genesis 3.

I'm wondering if I should stick with Genesis 3 female until Genesis 9 comes out?

It takes so much time & effort to try and make an attractive Genesis 8 female when Genesis 3 females look more attractive on average.

  • Which female model version should I use?

No matter which generation you choose, you will have to buy additional products to get a variety in body shapes beyond the very limited options that the base program includes.

Genesis 8 is the most recent model and not a bad choice. Start with Genesis 8 Female Body Morphs, and see how far that gets you.

If you use older models, the technology will be less advanced, and you won't be able to use new products that keep being released. On the plus side, it's more likely that you find free products on the net for older models, and products for older models are more often discounted in the store.

The models are, in reverse chronological order:
    Genesis 8
    Genesis 3
    Genesis 2
    Genesis
    Victoria 4
(I wouldn't go further back than Victoria 4)

As far as I can figure out, this is only happening with "Benita for Victoria 8" ( https://www.daz3d.com/benita-for-victoria-8 ). Has anyone else experienced this problem? Is there a solution for it? If not, can I get a credit for the purchase? Thanks in advance.

  • Jepe's Art Deco Statuettes Volume 3

Thank you so much Anita for posting your image here in the forums - I simply love it. heart

And to clear things a bit for MimicMolly and all the others that probably want to know - my motto for my promo images in the shop is always - what you see is what you get. Means that everything is included with the statuettes. There's a minor exception in the first pack where I used AprilYSH hair - but that's stated on the promo and in the promo text. All other things are included in the scene subsets. I've saved out the pedestals as single props, but I couldn't do that for all the different pieces of all the statuettes. Probably also a bit disappointing could be that the clothes shown are not rigged, they are static props. Except of the basic wear I had to use on some Victorias to cover up the statuettes for promotional purposes. DAZ don't allow completely naked statues and statuettes, although it was common in the 20s of last century.

I also want to mention that every statuette in my sets has a real life counterpart. I had to make some compromises in some cases or needed to invent some covering cloth, but you can compare for yourself here or in my DeviantArt gallery. :)

  • How Effective Are Clothing Convertors?

    I don't know about V4 compatibility! But I think they're Genesis, not Genesis 2.

    V4 was before Genesis.

There's no batch converter for V4 clothes to G8 right now.

This enables you to autofit V4/M4 clothes to Genesis 8: https://www.daz3d.com/sy-victoria-4-and-michael-4-clones-for-genesis-8 It works well with some items and less well for others.

Another option is to autofit V4 clothes to Genesis (1), then autofit the G1 version to G8F. This has the advantage of beeing free, but once again it will work more or less well depending on the kind of item you try to convert.

Thanks, I was wondering this too! :D

  • Can I transfer Victoria 4 morphs to Victoria 8?

The GenX2 addons? Hmm...I think out the box you can go from V4 to G2F. And I also think that V8 comes with a G2F clone. If that's the case, then you would transfer V4 morphs to G2F with GenX2. Then load G2F and G8F in to studio, FAV the G2F morphs you want to transfer, then use the Tranfer Morphs tool. I think Sycleyield has a tutorial on this (just google and you should go right to the page.)

G2F doesn't come with a V4 clone, you need the "Victoria 4 for G2F" product for this. And having an autofit clone included has nothing to do with whether or not GenX2 needs an add-on to transfer morphs to that figure...

With each volume of Statuettes, Jepe outdoes himself. Every single statuette in this set has their own hair or headdress. Two of the pedastals are clocks! And the clock hands move! Just wonderful. Here's a render I did using one of these statuettes.

Bit of a chatter-lull here, so I'll strike up...

Happy 2019, campers! You know what that means:  Genocide 9 is coming soon, at least if the 2-year pattern holds up: Victoria 6 (June 2013), V7 (6/2015) and V8 (6/2017).   Would anyone here besides me be willing to accept the cost of, say, 8,000 more polygons for a G9 figure, to be spent on improving the HANDS/FINGERS/KNUCKLES and how they flex, bend, bunch up or stretch out according to how they are posed, so that they won't look ridiculous anymore?   And I mean, on the base figure, not in the HD skin details add-ons!   ETA:  I say, 8k, but maybe that's waay too many, maybe 5K (2500 new polys per hand) would be enough.  I'd be thrilled to accept the slight figure size increase for better fingers/hands articulation.

It's partly, I suspect, more specific morphing and joint controls or weight mapping etc needed, but I'm thinking polygons have to be added to permit good results, that will look like real hands.  Instead of pipe cleaner or toon fingers flexing.    IRAY, iray, IRAY.  It's the ultimate, yadda yadda.  It really is a quantum leap forward in terms of realism--or can be--but only so far as the models and textures support that.   Daz has done yeomans work over the years on improving figure articulation, and we can right in DS now simulate the sky, light and fabric so credibly and hair has improved dramatically. But try doing a closeup of a person showing their hands... it's worse than threading a needle to come up with hands that will "pass" for actual hands, and it just is not a particular texture's fault; the model's fingers and knuckles simply do not have enough nuance and detail built in.  So with such advances in the state of the art, to me, the fingers/hands of figures are the weakest link in the "realism" chain.   (I do feel somehow something went slightly backwards in terms of skins in G8, versus G7, since to me at least most g8 skins look like silicone love dolls/toys surfaces or wax or orange cheese rather than human skin, but still, that can be mediated, where the fundamentallly unconvincing deformations of the fingers just can't be dealt with, just minimized or avoided.)

Love to hear what anyone else has to say about this....
         ~Gen

Well, what they could do is make it an HD option within the base figure(i.e. not as an "HD Add-on") to improve the hands realism for rendering. Actual body hair, "peach fuzz", etc., would be a nice as well, but I could only imagine the number of potential headaches that could cause. Nevertheless, I think when it comes to realism of the hands, depending on what the artist is doing, most would probably settle for touching up still-renders in photoshop over increased render times.

If it already hasn't been mentioned, I hope the next Genesis series doesn't have it where all of the expressions look practically the same on different characters. For example, the smiles seem to yield the same freakish look above a certain parameter and you end up having to use shaping morphs to remedy it.

Not just hands. The feet could use some 'extra' as well...

Yes!! I set these up some you can swap the normal maps onto other G8 characters.. Quite cool, as Victoria and Olympia have some of the most beautiful normal maps available.

I will look into it for the darker skinned girls, maybe I can do em some justice :)

  • Genesis 9 delayed until at least 2020. Will you be buying it?

Daz is running out of pro bundles to entice me to buy G9.  The main reason I've bought most of the Genesis 8 bundles is because of the bundle offers, which have rounded out my pro bundle collection nicely, but now I have most of those, and the ones that are left I already have pieces of, hence why I keep passing on them...

A few people have mentioned Genesis 8 characters having much higher memory overhead.  If Genesis 9 has even higher requirements, yeah my 8 GB GTX 1080s may not be able to keep up.  And those aren't low end GPUs...

There are ways (Altern8, etc) to reduce memory overhead for Genesis 8 of course, but that introduces extra steps.

I recently rendered a V4 character for someone.  The render took less than a minute.  I was shocked that it finished that fast, so I checked my settings, and nothing had changed.  And this is AFTER I applied the Iray Uber Base shader to the character textures.

If Genesis 9 can keep quality while reducing render times, I'll seriously consider it.  Otherwise, it's going to depend on what sort of shopping deals Daz offers with those G9 characters, and if the deals appeal to me.

I'm perfectly content with Genesis 2 and 3, I have no need for 'cutting edge', but I get that for some, the added enhancements matter to them, so to each their own.

Hmm, I with you on most of those points, but a lot of the G8s are wonderfully unique - I snapped up the first few with a couple of exceptions but none since Zelara - On my system, and especially on the BETA, Studio is much more reliable on G8 than G2 or G3 (I run Daz on Wine in 'Linux which adds a whole host of complex problems).

I seem to generally pick up Michael and Victoria, and Monique and Darius, and I'm an Olympia fan for each generation that carries them, but I'm not sure I'll continue that with 9, I am inclined to save the cash for the more unique figures.
