Welcome to Hatsune Miku Anime Manga Cafe ☕
I Challenge You!

This is a free Anime morph for G8M I found on cgshare. I finally got to play arounf with those PWTOON presets that were posted on here a long while back (or maybe it was the NPR thread). I don't remember who posted them but I like em.
More Non-photorealistic Renders (NPR III)@vrba79 you still get great results and at the end of the day it doesn't matter how you get there. Personally I wouldn't even know where to start with PWToon as I've been so used to Octane, so it goes both ways!
I'm also still learning something new about Octane each day. For this test I've added in some rim lighting and I can take advantage of the fact it's just a black and white layer to mask in the glow in post. A lot of my images have a cyberpunk flavour to them so it should come in handy later.
More Non-photorealistic Renders (NPR III)Yeah. I was just not up to the task of taming Octane the way you did. I went crawling back to PWToon instead, lol.
I Upgraded to an Nvidia 4090.......What a nightmare!I love it when when many of you forum heavy hitters jump into the discussion. Turns out that there were many registry issues that occured during so many changes in a short period of time. They simply cloned the NVME drive that operating sytem was on so there were a few files that left registry clutter when the Windows install was in the 3090 System. I got the beast home from the store and what Outrider said is on point. The readings in HW monitor barely move the needle for power consumption or even GPU activity. What I found amazing is that I render a full HD (1920x1080) in an environment such as Jazz Corner and a character on stage and get no noise in the render output at only 200 iterations. I have not had a single crash yet with DS ver 2.21. Pwtoon renders extremely fast with the 7950x. So I would have to say this endeaver is turning out to be something of a nice dream instead of a nightmare. The journey has certainly been less than desirable though, and I don't even want to think about the final $$$$. Yikes!! Overall I don't know that render speeds while be that jaw dropping, but the fact that you can take the heaviest of envirements and add several characters and still render in full HD and get amazingly clear results in a matter of seconds a 4990 and 7950x are worth the plunge. I am at 64 Gb of ram right now I wonder how much of a performance boost would occur at 96 Gb.
Should Where "My Library" is placed effect how DAZ renders? In another thread I explained all issues that arrose trying to complete a new build. I upgraded to a Nvidia 4090 64 Gb ram and AMD 7950x. Well turns out the Computer is working fine now but there is something I gues I just don't understand about DAZ.
After completing the build I used DIM to download Daz Studio version 2.21 to the default paths. In other words the C: drive. I placed the content directory in the default directory as well, also the C: drive. I installed one G8f character just for test purposes along with Altern8 shaders and PWtoon and Jazz Corner. Also G8 essentials. When loading and rendering scenes from default path "C:\ My Library" rendering is lightning fast.
However I copied the "My Library" that I had on an SSD on my previous computer to 2Tb NVME on my new system and then went into preferences ; Content Directory and pointed DS to the 2 Tb NVME with the copied "MY Libray". Everything loads just as it normally does, but when try to render I get nothing but a white page for almost 2 minutes then it starts to render. I then placed the SSD directly into an external adapter that is accessed through USB again pointed DS to "My Libray" I got same thing loads fine but bogs down when doing a render.
Is there a required technique for using a second drive for "My Libray". Is using a copy of "My Library even supposed to work?

Thanks for all the wonderful feedback, I will get the techs to give the that tool a whirl Leather. Wendy I didn't Install a name brand anti-virus yet but what does PostgreSQL do anyway?? I love the way that the 16 cores on the 7950x were handling PWToon with the 3090 build (2 seconds per frame at 1080) then I ruined all that by opting to immediately trade out for a 4090. I just don't get why the 4090 build can render a single frame fast then gets bogged down rendering each frame when doing an image series. I definately don't get why it bogs down doing a single frame in OpenGL and takes more than 3 minutes for a single frame, that should be instantaneous.
handles all the metadata, smart content etc
I am totally ignorant BTW but do know there were AVs such as ZoneAlarm which clashed with it

Did PW Toon stop working after DS ver. 4.12If you have 4.12 and 4.16 both installed on the same computer, that really makes me think that the pwToon.sdl file is not installed on the 4.16 installation. Can you check in the folder where the 4.16 version is installed and in the shaders folder see if the SDL file is there?
I don't know if I was on 4.15 or 4.16 before this, but it was working for me before and it is working for me in 4.21 now.
Did PW Toon stop working after DS ver. 4.12Installing with DIM is all you need. No need to change render engine (yet) to apply the shader.
After you attempt to apply the shader to a single figure, does the Surfaces tab show "Shader: pwToon (RSL)" at the top?
A number of properties are unique to the pwToon surface. Do any of them appear?
Did PW Toon stop working after DS ver. 4.12PwToon works just fine in the lastest version of D|S.
It also works just fine with Genesis 8 and 9.
Did PW Toon stop working after DS ver. 4.12I don't think I even owned pwToon until after 4.12, and it's always worked fine for me.
More Non-photorealistic Renders (NPR III)New PWToon tuning
More Non-photorealistic Renders (NPR III)Yup! PWtoon!
I've been leaning back into 3DL, because I'm tired of driver updates messing up rendering and IRay's very limited toon options.
AMD 7900x or AMD 7950x ???Thanks Vagans, yes I do use 3DL for rendering non photorealistic with PWtoon. What I am trying to find out is if there would be a significant boost to having 16 cores and 32 threads opposed to the 12 core and 24 threads. Significant being the key word. I saw tests done with Blender where the AMD 7950x had 25% better rendering speed performance over the AMD 7900x. I would have to pay an additional $120 to upgrade from the AMD 7900x that I purchased, so I am just wondering if it would be worth it.
AMD 7900x or AMD 7950x ???Does anyone trully know if there a significant difference between the the performance in DAZ of the AMD 7900x and the AMD 7950x. I bought an AMD 7900x just before the dropped. The price was $599 at a compter shop, and dropped to 474 online. Now the price for a AMD 7950x is $574 online and $720 in the computer shop. (The shop basically charges what they paid regardless of price drops). I have had issues with Newegg in the past and don't really embrace the the data sharing at Amazon or Ebay. As a rule I try to resist signing up for new accounts online. (Until I actually find a legitimately private email service, lol).
All that being said I am just really wondering if there would be a very noticable boost using an 7950x since I do use PWtoon for animations in 3DL. How much difference would there be with an extra 4 cores (16 opposed to 12) and 8 threads (32 opposed to 24).
Also I use Iclone 8 now so would there be any advantage to a AMD 7950x for Iclone? Thanks!
More Non-photorealistic Renders (NPR III)Yeah. I'm not loving Octane.
Anyway here's something I whipped up with Aiko 6, Pwtoon and a little postwork.

Iray is also hard to get to look cartoony, unless your using something like Sketchy(takes some work to find the right settings with that) or the "My shaders" set, which trims the "photorealism fat" giving you something that plays well with postwork to get a toony result. At the end of the day someting in 3Delight, like VSS, dzDefault Toon or PwToon(You're gonna have to get creative if you don't already own that, as it's delisted), is a better choice for to make renders look cartoony.
I'm constantly getting Mattel Barbie plastic OR washed out patselly blotch. Iray 3Delight(it ain't to me) I shake my fists constantly at both

Update:
Hand painted a texture for the model.
You may want to get in touch with vrba79 who has been playing with Gen9 and toon shaders. With PwToon, for example, the skin shaders come out smooth and pleasant to look at.
Update: The More Non-Photorealistic Render thread has sample renders.
Cheers!
More Non-photorealistic Renders (NPR III)I've just had a hankering to play with PwToon lately.
