The allure of fan art? - A conversationWendyLuvsCatz said:
I daydream a lot and my fantasies borrow from are plagiarised from many genres
which is why I never would be able to create a book based on them.
That said it does make mixing and kitbashing stuff inspired by many movies, games, books etc easier
I could never settle on one fandom
everytime I read a book, watch a film I just toss another ingredient into my world
I guess others are just more disciplined, linear thinking than me
It is pretty hard to be completely original these days. My son is working on a group assignment for one of his college classes, and I was listening (eavesdropping) when they were talking about the other day. Their Story is a post apopoliptic scenario where the S has HTF and the world has regressed into a stage of medeival feudalism.
I made the mistake of interacting (which they are not comfortable with), and asking if they had heard of the SM Sterling "The Change" series where this same scenario played out across something like 15 or so books. Eight blank stares looking back at me.
It was original to them...
I'm a big fan of Star Wars fan fic these days, since it shows infinitely more imagination and creativity than the drivel being excreted from the official channels.

The planet they ended up exploring was inspired by an image and prompt by amysparkles.

Generating a sky with two sunsThis looks amazing!
I experimented with your prompt and found some prompt variations that might go in a similar direction,
panoramic view of a binary star system with a giant red sun and a small white star,
binary star system / dual star system
sometimes limites the visible objects to two
space photo of
sometimes generates shots from very far away.
orbital view of
sometimes generates shots from the outer orbit of a planet
Generating a sky with two sunsI thought I'd have another little experiment with Daz AI Studio, pushing things to their limits. This time in attempt to make an image with two suns in the sky. Especially with suns of two different stellar types. I've been attempting to create skies like this in Daz Studio too.
After a lot of trial and error, mostly error, I realized the AI gives better results if I include 'science fiction' in the prompt. 'Red giant' and 'white dwarf' did not give anything Tolkien fantasy related - as I pondered, but did sometimes actually give reasonable results.
However, the AI does have a tendency to add moons when they were not asked for. I've also noticed on several images that even though the sky clearly has two suns, only the light from one of those suns is cast on the moons. That's probably an oversight on the images used to train the AI though.
It was a fun and interesting experiment anyway. The AI gave me some quite pretty and surreal landscapes.
Here's one of my favorites:
Prompt: Giant red sun next to white star, in sky, science fiction landscape
The prompt strictness slider was pushed to maximum and the quality set to best.
You probably noticed a major fault with the image though: the clouds are behind the larger red moon on the right. But still, I like the scene.

Daz has, for the time being, removed some fan-art product pages while they are under review. Lets not start speculating why.
Not speculating, but sharing my experience:
I have Star Trek related items, in two print-on-demand stores (I'll link below in a shameless plug :P) which have a Fan Art Program in which you can submit items from certain IPs. Those items have to be tagged in a specific way to be approved, and once approved they are sold in the store, you get the saem revenue you would get normally, but they have the "Approved by CBS" stamp at the bottom of the page.
My wife and I created a lot of minimalistic star trek "portraits", Many were accepted, some were not, and we received DMCA takedown requests, and we were not allowed to re-upload the items. One of the stores (the Redbubble one) still has all the items as they have not been subject to further review, but several of the items in Teepublic have been struck down recently by a DMCA takdown (after having been accepted into the Fan Art program for like 6-7 yerars).
My experience is that Paramount Global/CBS every now and again they do a sweep to see if anything is infringing on their Ips, especially Star Trek (a brand that survives in spite of how Paramount treat their trekkie fans). In this case, I'm not surprised this has happened as it was a possibility from day one, even when Daz announced that they were negotiating to have official "fan art" items a couple of years back.
As you say, now the only thing is to wait and see what happend with those items.

Mmmm, ho una domanda a monte però: mettiamo che voglio davvero rendere a pagamento la mia super-fashion graphic novel che Harry Potter spostati. Come faccio a farlo? Cioè, devo postarla su siti tipo Patreon, OF, ecc.?

The allure of fan art? - A conversationI'll chime in because I've created fan art on what I imagined a scene might look like in my head after reading a book as well as a creating a character render from a TV show.
For the books, it's mostly because I read something that the author wrote which brought images to my mind. After reading them, I want to create the images because art is my hobby and I love to express my thoughts in this way. It also gives me ideas for drawing since I'm trying to express the emotions that that author brought out in words to something I can see. Examples of fan art I did in Daz (1), (2), (3). They were inspired by the books and I added the background stories in the gallery. They aren't great (I'm trying to improve!), but they were expressions of what I envisioned in my head of the stories from books I read.
For the second example, I sort of created a celebrity look-a-like with this image. It was inspired by the TV show (Andor) and because there was a week between each episode, I had lots to time to think about the story that was unfolding. This was when Genesis 9 first came out, so I wanted to see what I could create using the dials. My inspiration came from the show and my enjoyment of watching it.
When I first read about the Editorial License, the first thing I thought of was... Wow, I hope they come out with a great Togruta model I can customize! I used to play swtor (an online star wars video game) and had a Togruta character that I would have loved to render, but as I read and researched more about what this license actually was, I kind of lost hope on that idea. =)
Harlow 9I picked up the pro bundle. The tokens and the add-ons made it the most effective option. I like his morph, especially the swole morph. his head is not my favorite, and the skin looks a bit similar to others. But I can work with it. I do like the hair.
I avoided the Star Wars content. I'm hoping the Marshall outfit is okay to use. It had no editorial licensing yet.

Bunyip - Enjoying your recent updates. See the Klingon ship. Do you have any insights on Daz3D's recent 'fanart' limited license products, like some of the cars and the Star Trek themed content?
Hello Diomede
Thanks for the comment about enjoying the updates !!!
Insights on 'fanart' - hmmmm ..... As a general rule I don't buy Editorial Licence items, unless it's a must have for something I am working on. I did buy the Morphs (which are HD) & Skins from the Star Trek content. I prefer that Editorial Content is a freebie, with the resulting commercial use not allowed. While I do the occasional 'fanart' render it is in moderation as I don't do bulk renders with them, and only as non-commercial usage. No money/income is earned in any way from them, and are there to be enjoyed freely by the viewing audience.
Hmmm, looks like the links to the Star Trek themed items now go to an OOOPS page, wonder why ?
Star Wars Head Morphs soon? From the look of the promo to the new character I see that "Cad Bane" got a "Special" morph, so does it mean we'll get a Star Wars morph pack like we got with Star Trek!?

Star Wars Renders 2013 +Worked on a "CGI" version of Clone Trooper for G9, with help of the Toon Hero to get the eyes to work easier!
Happy with how it turned out.BTW the model were free but from a "adult" 3D model site, but the same author got some very accurate Clone Wars characters as this is made from scratch and not a rip from a game!
Fun thing, I saw a comment awhile ago where someone asked on reddit how Jango Fett would look like in Clone Wars style :D LOL

Thanks! It was! Rosie and I spent the day celebrating with our daughter. I started watching the new series launched on Disney +, which is quite interesting.
Tales of the Empire is done in the Clone Wars style seemingly through the lens of the folks from the Dark Side of the Force.

Fo the record, many of these vendors still have storefronts at Rendo, they are just not exclusive to Renderosity anymore. Selling at two stores will probably be better than selling at one.
I guess it's a good idea. Unless there is another FirstBastion, you're the Rendo Rising Star for March and got an interview there. Congratulations.
