  • Carrara Challenge 45: Extinction and De-extinction! Less than two days to go!

This is the crude rendered version.

As I used multipass rendering, after postwork:

pretty brilliant, once you get that lighting happening it will sing - great to use Fluidos :)

Looking great so far Alberto !

    Thank you!

love the ideas and thinking that Carrara'ists come up with.. awesome work Alberto

    Resurrection of Victoria One

This is my second time to use V1 in a Challenge, so I guess this makes the resurrection official. smiley

However, I discovered that this version of V1 (which comes in the Mimic Lite package) is not the "full" V1, but rather a low-res NG version.  Still, it works for me.

The people are V1 and M3.  Shirt is M3 everyday wear.  Goggles come from B25 Steampunk Aviator.  The set is The Mad Lab, with some alterations and additions in the model room.  Carrara processes include, aura and text.   GMIC was used, as always.  No postwork.

just wow... you are getting mucherer better and betterer .. it's awesome seeing your development over time and how you have grasped the use of Carrara and it's tools.. very much enjoy viewing your works.

This is as much as I could get done for this image. Pretty simple modelingfor the most part - just some boxes and cylinders made in the Vertex Room, textured and assembled together. The two main robots have IK chains for their arms. A few of the objects have Aura enabled under the Effects Tab. The one industrial robot arm has a Bulb attached with some Light Effects turned on: CrossScreen, Glow and Stars. Industrial robot arms are textured with Anodized Aluminum from Carrara native content. I rendered the background robots serperate from the foreground and added a subtle Curves filter to each in post.

Thanks Headwax and Diomede for hosting the challenge!

this really grabs me... great work also.... so much great stuff by you all... and looks even betterer when viewing whilst sitting back with a coffee at lunch time yes

OK thank you, thats what i thought too.

Yea, I see now, apparently I just read the subject line not the comment. :)

What about the character? anyone recognize her? Victoria 7 maybe? hard for me to tell the face with the glasses and maybe because some eye posing might have been done.

Here's some general observations and common rules I've made after helping tracking down a lot of characters over the years:

Contrary to hairs and many other products characters can be extremely difficult to identify because there are so many of them, they share a lot of general characteristics, the original character can be morphed in an almost infinite number of ways and textures can be switched and altered as well, plus various cosmetic presets can be applied.

So first look at the release date of the product the promos are from (the readme page will tell you if there is one), the products used in promos are almost always from before that date.

The texture used is generally the easiest to identify, the eyebrows are usually unique and it may have spots, moles or freckles so if you have some possible candidates these characteristics can make it a lot easier to recognize which one among them it is. But it usually requires some good close up photos. It looks like the expression set belonging to the bundle for this product uses the same character, it has some better promos which may make it easier to identify it:

    https://www.daz3d.com/i13-expressions-of-teaching-for-the-genesis-3-female-s

The spots over the left eyebrow and on the left cheek and the breast for example are good clues for the texture used. From these I think the texture may be from this character, the eyebrows also match quite well:

    Jolina HD for Victoria 7  -  https://www.daz3d.com/catalog/product/view/id/32449

The body must have been morphed quite a bit though, maybe also the face, perhaps the morph is from another character.

The texture may also be from another character using the same merchant resource for the skin, but I'm not aware of any, I was just browsing through my own V7 characters looking for these spots and found this one.

  • Genesis 9 delayed until at least 2020. Will you be buying it?

The thing is, unless there is a big jump in the underlying tech or the kind of backwards compatibility that we got with Genesis 8, There is no compelling reason for myself to “go all in” when Genesis 9 releases. It’s definitely not a financially sound decision to move into Genesis 9 if it means that my previous content cannot transfer to the new figures. Of course I will play around with the starter essentials that we may be given for free based on previous release history but depending on the compatibility issue, it’s looking very likely that I will stay with just the “starter essentials” or maybe just get the Michael 9 and Victoria 9 characters and stop there until I start seeing the utilities, tutorials, morph packages and whatnot I would need to transfer things forward and backward.  It’s just the most financially responsible way I can see at this point.  None of us really knows what G9 is going to bring to the table at this point after all.

I'm only buying men. So if Genesis 8 coming this year, means females, then I'll wait for the male release. I have enough female figures and content, so unless there is some major breathrough in tech with the new Victoria 9, I'm passing.

  • Victoria 4.2 & Morphs ++ Show as not Installed in Studio Via DIM Installation

Are you sure you installed the Poser files, not just the DS files? Please post a screen shot of what you are seeing.

Victoria 4 cannot be nstalled through Connect (from the Smart Content pane) because of the way all the ExP morph expansions have to be in the same location (with connect each product gets its own sub-folder).

Richard, it is even worse than i originally thought as I have 9 screenshots of content all installed via DIM that are showing in Studio with the same error icons...  All appear to be based on the series 4 charcters, morphs, and CF Files.  Here are some examples,

    imageimageimage

I also attached them to this so you can view them larger...  As you can see they all have the same icon and when right clicked on most of the choices do not work including Explore and Browse to folder location...  Other choices have to do with Metadata and when Show Product in Content Library it goes there but there is no content shown...

So you asked this question earlier in this thread,

"So you can see the figure in Poser Formats>Folder Installed to>Figures>Daz People in the Content Library pane?"

Here is a screenshot of those files,

    image

How can this be when DIM shows all of these installed?

Since there are so many of them am I needing to start all over again and start from scratch or should I un-install Studio completely and then reimport all my content???

What would you do at this point?

Thanks again for looking at this.

  • Genesis 9 delayed until at least 2020. Will you be buying it?

Starting Genesis 9 with any male figure, instead of the female, would be a shock. But I have to agree with @Daikatana; It would be the best way to turn me into an early adopter, too!

This is a routine, right. Every two years, we will have a new figure. Since the release of Victoria 3, there are the same comments repeating: " Oh no, no new figure, I have invested so much money in (previous) Victoria. I won't switch."
I can't wait for Genesis 9. Allways excited about something new.

It's easy enough to check the release dates of all the Vicky's still in the store, from 4.2 on. The two year, 24 month cycle for new generation releases actually began with Genesis 3. That was a surpise. I thought, expected, that it's been two years between each of the Genesis generations.

V4.2 was released in December of 2006. Victoria 5 wasn't released until October of 2011. Victoria 6 was released June of 2013, only 20 months later. Victoria 7 and Victoria 8 were both released in June, 2015 and 2017, respectively.

I think it's reasonable to assume Daz will release Genesis 9 in June of this year, even though I'd much rather they didn't release any new generation until it's an appreciable step up from the previous one. Many of us feel like G8 could just as easily been released as 3.1.

If I remember correctly Genesis was released before Victoria 5 there was more of a gap than with other figures, so the 2 years is possible from the release of Genesis to the release of Genesis 2 rather than Victoria to Victoria.

I didn't know that. I just looked up the date for the Genesis Starter Essentials. It was August of 2012, so around two months before V5. Still only 22 months, but much closer to the 2 year mark.

...was in the Downloads tab. Been selecting content by basic grouping (like "Genesis" "Victoria 5" etc).

Also how do you tell before downloading which items go to the Daz 4+ Library and which goes into the older Poser Runtime setup?  I have the Download filter set just to Daz 4.5+ yet I still see a lot of older content and even some Poser CF files in the listings.

Out of curiosity what was the lead time for marketing Gen 8? Was there official word weeks beforehand or were people expecting  Gilligan 7 when Victoria 8 appeared instead without notice?

I recall a marketing slip up where some Genesis 8 adverts were sent out a few days before the official launch, but on the whole DAZ are pretty good at keeping upcoming releases secret. I do remember that amongst forumites the arrival of Genesis 4 (or 8 as it turned out to be) had been anticipated for some time before it was live, and it appeared around the time many had guessed (ie 2 years after G3 was released).

Having said that, nothing is certain. Since G8 is already a pretty good figure, then making any significant improvements will need a considerable effort, and could need more than the 2 years of a typical cycle.

    NICE history layout there.

Well for all those that aren't looking forward to Genesis 9... keep in mind that we will get the free Genesis 9 essentials first and that will give folks a chance to play with the figures to see if it's something greatly improved or a meh reaction!  lol

So you can see the figure in Poser Formats>Folder Installed to>Figures>Daz People in the Content Library pane?

Hi Richard, sorry to have taken so long to get back to you with my findings - been ill with Bronchitus and am just now getting back on my feet...  In this location there is only a Script File named V4.2 along with 2 other files - Victoria Head and V4.2 to V3 Script file.  In addition there is another V4 Sub Folder with a V4 Hair Sub Folder below it.  Moreover when I look in the Smart Content Tab the V4 Chacter now does exist however her Studio Companion Files, Morphs++, its CF Files, + multiple other V4 CF Files remains as Installers with that Triangle + ! within the box.  When clicked on the info shows them as not having been installed - yet there is no option to install them - only to explore, update Metadata and so on...  The same goes for all of them that fit into this condition.

Therefore what do you believe is causing this as i have no clue and especially without Her Morphs ++ not working all content associated with this are unable to be used!!!!

Thanks for your help so far.  Lokking forward to yours & anyone elses response(s) to hopefully resolve this once and for all...

  • Where are the highly detailed, muscular HD-Addons for Genesis 8 female? Like Ophelia 7's HD-Addon?

... whoops. My mistake. Still, out of the fairly large number of debut Gen 7 models (quickly counting, I got 22, but I may have messed up again), we've seen very few of them back so far. That's just Mika and Eva, as compared to considerably more with a longer history (although I think a reasonable number of these were only Gen 6 debut): Victoria, Olympia, Michael, Teen Josie, Stephanie, Monique, Darius, Aiko, The Girl, Gia, Mei Lin and Lee.
