  • Can turbo loader be applied to only specific character?

    James said:

I asked the developer on youtube:

Can turbo loader be applied to only specific character? It seems after I set one character of gf8, the settings are also aplied to another gf8 characters.

    He explained:
Every G8F morph applies, or can potentially apply, to every G8F character. Turning a morph off for one character turns them off for all.

So it changes per figure, then.

To be exactly, we're talking about different things:

    1) The way how Turbo Loader works. Turbo Loader lists, activates / deactivates (enables / disables) morphs firstly per Product (no matter Character Product, Morph Product ...)  That seems the question you asked in this thread's title and what I explained.

    2) The way how a Morph file (dsf) affects a Genesis figure, i.e.  a) an activated (enabled) morph can be loaded, seen, dialed and take effect in Parameters pane; b) an deactivated (disabled) Morph cannot... That's more likely what RiverSoftArt replied. Of course, you cannot find disabled morphs on a figure, in fact it's irrelevant to any Character anymore.... That's more likely what Richard said.

Back to the question you further asked: Can turbo loader be applied to only specific character? It seems after I set one character of gf8, the settings are also aplied to another gf8 characters.

The more accurate answer should be more or less a mix of the above points:

Yes, Turbo Loader, as default, applies enablement / disablement per Character / Morph Product based on your selection in Product List. If you disable the morphs under a G8F Character Product (e.g. Victoria 8), you won't find them in G8F figure's property list in Parameter pane, but actually it won't affect another character, let's say Aiko 8 because Aiko 8 doesn't use Victoria 8's morphs...

I am more curious how the shader would work on default characters like Victoria 9, Michael 9, Olympia, etc before any interest in Vicky 9. Vicky 9 looks like she would be good for folks who want to make Manga looking type stuff with the appropriate style eyes and stuff, but it seems like you could pretty easily be able to simulate the character with the toon essentials since Manga anesthetics are not that complex. It's not like the difficulty of trying to portray a believable real looking person which is where much of the HD and fancy high quality gen 9 skins come to play.

Mada started a Q&A/tutorial thread in this forum that I believe has some posts about this topic.

    https://www.daz3d.com/genesis-9-toon-essential-shapes-bundle

I am confused by this because I was ready to buy Vicky 9 | Daz 3D but this seems to say I have to buy Genesis 9 Toon Essential Shapes Bundle | Daz 3D which includes Genesis 9 Anime Base Expressions | Daz 3D, Genesis 9 Anime Head and Body Shapes | Daz 3D, and Genesis 9 Toon Starter Essentials Expansion | Daz 3D for Vicky 9 | Daz 3D to work?

I decided to buy Genesis 9 Toon Essential Shapes Bundle | Daz 3D as it seems to enable me to convert a lot of existing DAZ Genesis 9 content to anime.  I'm going to wait on on one of either Vicky 9 Character Bundle | Daz 3D or Vicky 9 | Daz 3D as they seem to be rather specific translations of Victoria 9 to the anime version Vicky 9 that need at least the Genesis 9 Toon Starter Essentials Expansion | Daz 3D to function correctly, which came free in my DIM before I ordered, by the way for other customers wondering exactly which package was missing.

    Petra said:

Can one put normal Iray shaders on the new Victoria 9 toon shape?

Yes but you won't have the outline, and the normal G9 eyeballs would probably work better with Iray Textures.

If you're just after the iray texture but still want the outline and render in filament, just drop the base colour texture used in iray into the right channel.

In this image I loaded Vicky Toon, and then applied Josie's Iray shader, and then removed the maps from the normal and specular channels to get a flatter look

Seems it's intentional, since "Meet Vicky 9, using the new Genesis 9 Toon shape to do an all-new anime figure inspired by Victoria."

It's obviously intentional, but I can still say I think it's an odd choice.

A quick search already finds a lot of people referring to Victoria as Vicky, and given Daz's previous efforts to try to unconfuse their product lines (things like bringing generation and genesis numbers in line, and generally retiring characters built on core figures as a base), it seems weird to pick up that spanner and throw it right in there.

There is only one DOOR BUSTER and a new PLUS item every day at a very attractive price.

But I noticed the prices in Victoria 8 & 8.1 are pretty good ,seems better than last month?

Will these prices last a whole month?
Or come and go like last month?

Prices always come and go. That is why this thread is, There's always another sale. You miss out on a great deal and now something is super expensive, just wait cause... There's always another sale.

  • Trying to find origin of password protected ANCIENT Red Sonja V4 set

A LONG time ago, I apparently purchased a Red Sonja outfit for Victoria 4 from somewhere other than DAZ or Renderosity, and having just dug the zip file out of storage, I found it to be password protected. Would anyone happen to remember where this set was available so I might go back there and see if I can retrieve my password? The name of the Geometry folder is "Terrymcg" and it's about 77 meg in size.

    Thank you for any information.

It seems to be how they celebrate their anniversary. Some people go out to dinner, buy a new outfit, and others get a new makeover . . . like a website makeover...

This reminds me of when Victoria 9 and the DAZ horse 3 were prematurely offered and we all know how that went.  So I think I am going to lurk around some forums, stalk the DAZ release announcements, and click nothing to ensure my membership stays as is and I don't accidently mess it up. I have also backed up all plugins etc.

Now I am longing for the good ol' days when Daz broke -- I mean Celebrated!! -- the Sale Formerly Known As Anniversary by replacing the store software.

    Whine....

Edit: Just thought of something . . . will edit this in a minute rather than post twice  If one reads between the lines, it seems Starter Essentials (only G10?) will be part of the subscription plan that leads me to believe DAZ 5 is ready, subscription only and G10 is about to debut along with DAZ 5.  Every major DAZ Studio PRO version debuts a new character. 4.15 gave us 8.1. while 4.21 gave us G9 and although 4.22 gave us volumetrics it was not a major release. More like a test release, like they did for 8.1 prior to G9. But, 4.22 gave us Omni hair, and recently Omni nails too. Will G10 be an Omni10? Omni means of all things. Is DAZ going Omniverse?  Do base members not get access to new content? Does anyone else wonder how this affect  the Christmas PA giveaways. Last year the majority of PA Christmas content was targeted toward G9. Currently we can modify things in DAZ,we can  create shapes from older models for G9. This reminds me of when Victoria 9 and the DAZ horse 3 were prematurely offered and we all know how that went.  So I think I am going to lurk around some forums, stalk the DAZ release announcements, and click nothing to ensure my membership stays as is and I don't accidently mess it up. • Premier Questions

    AndrewJJP said:

My offer is to exchage 18 months for 4 months. So I'm not sure how that's fair in the context of someone else getting  3 months for 9 months. Which in itself seems pretty unfair.

Edit: Then again, someone with more than me gets less upgrade! IMO this is completely ridicolous. If the target market are the power users, they are likely to be on here and reading what they all got, and comparing notes. Feels like a PR disaster...

I'd like to see some transparency on how this is calculated. I don't want to upgrade as I don't know what I"m going to get (see other posts) and I don't think the deal I'm being offered is fair.

I have 19 months of DAZ+ outstanding, and was offered 6 months of Premier. Assuming that upgrading to Premier means losing those 19 months, then DAZ are proposing to exchange 19 months of DAZ+ (a $190 value) for 6 months of DAZ Premier (a $114 value). So almost exactly 40% of my subscription value goes away with the move.

That's a very special special offer indeed.

In fairness, I probably didn't pay $190 for those 19 months. In fact, with discounts and special offers, I may have paid rather less than $114. Still, if DAZ were to say "Here, you can have $100 of store credit for $75," and then came along later and said "We'll give you $75 of New SuperDAZ Store Credit™ for that $100 of store credit you have already," people would be annoyed. They might not have lost any actual money, but DAZ would be retrospectively cancelling an offered discount, which is not a great look (and just possibly, you know, illegal).

I  expect DAZ to issue some clarifications and maybe even make some adjustments in the near future, so I'm leaving my pitchfork and torch in storage for the moment. Still, it feels as if they haven't entirely thought this through yet, or haven't done a good job of communicating things.

One thing I'd like them to explain is what happens with existing DAZ+ coupons. If I've used them already, does that mean I don't get the Premier coupons this month? If I haven't used them already, do they go away when I upgrade? That's a basic question they should answer.

With respect to Premier itself, I'm on the fence. I am committed enough to DAZ-based 3D as a hobby (by which I mean I already spend a ridiculous sum each year) that the higher price is not an absolute deal-breaker. Still, the subscription model for software means that -- if I make the additional features of DAZ Studio Premier part of my workflow -- then I'm locked in to paying $20/month forever, or at least for as long as I still want to take part in this costly and time-consuming hobby. I've made similar devil's bargains with other software -- for photography, I basically live in Lightroom, so I'm going to be paying Adobe $11/month for the rest of my natural life. But it's something to consider.

In addition to getting locked in to the software, the new model seems to provide for lock-in to specific pieces of content. Quit paying your Premier subscription and any Premier-exclusive content you had access to goes away. DAZ's intention is clearly to make it hard for you to stop paying that $19/month. I don't think that's necessarily unscrupulous of them, but it's something to weigh up when you make your decision.

I'm also wary of the "pig in a poke" nature of the special bundles they say they're offering. Apparently the "exclusive bundles feature a mix of fan-favorite selections from previous releases along with brand-new characters drop from the month" which -- aside from the questionable grammaticality -- raises some unanswered questions. Technically, "fan-favorite selections from previous releases" might include Genesis 2 or even Victoria 3 content. Lots of that stuff was a 'fan favorite' back in the day. And if -- purely hypothetically -- you happened to own an absolutely absurd quantity of DAZ's published content (definitely not talking about me, no sir), then the chances are good that you might either already own the offered "fan favorites", or have already decided that you don't want it. So these exclusive bundles aren't necessarily super-compelling.

The least challenging parts are the increased discounts and tokens. You get about $4 more per month to spend on DAZ Originals, and $4 more per month "on Daz content" if you spend more than $25/month (I assume this is equivalent to the coupon in DAZ+ that gives you $6 off $18, and that the same "only valid on non-new, non DAZ+ content" restrictions will apply. If you're the kind of person who spends at least $10 on non-DAZ+ DAZ Originals and at least $25 on older non-DAZ Original content every month, then you're getting $8 extra bucks of value for your $10 over the DAZ+ subscription. Or, put another way, you're getting $20 of coupons for $19 of subscription plus a $25 minimum monthly spend on older content. Plus the tweaks to tokens. If this fits your spending patterns, then the upgrade is a no-brainer.

I'm not seeing anything (except that 30% gift card offer) in the DAZ+ sale today that I have to have, so I don't think I'm going to rush to upgrade. I'll let DAZ and the early adopters give us some more clarity on what's in the box before I make a move. And maybe I won't upgrade at all. I've been thinking for a while that it might be time to start spending less on DAZ, and subscribing to Premier would definitely be a move in the wrong direction.

  • Premier Questions

Having sort out the paying and how the upgrade works with the orange banner, I'm now left wondering what I get for the money. I don't expect answers to these, it's just to illustrate my issue with the information on offer...

    - What is the free "legacy content"? Victoria 4? Older Genesis 9? The most basic or the most comprehensive?

    - Do I keep the assets as I do with the Daz+ ones, and lose only the add-on sofware features, should I decide to stop paying?

    - How do the export options differ from the bridges? Or the scupting from Mesh Grabber?

A one minute video and a sentence per feature isn't really enough when you're spending this much.

Why wouldn't that work on my GF8.1 model?
