  • everyday clothes that drape nicely over pregnant G9?

I was pregnant in Utah when the very first Star Wars movie was released and that summer was HOT!

Remember, not all women get huge. A co-worker was model thin and when she was pregnant, she finally unbuttoned the top button to her uniform pants a month before she gave birth. Then there are those like me that put a lot of weight on immediately and have to start wearing larger clothes fast. But try normal clothing and then during the middle of the second tri-mester, go for the obvious baby bump clothes. Breasts swell up first for some, waist may get a bit fuller, but otherwise until then a character might not show. But by that last month, hips spread and you waddle. Every woman is different as you know.

So you can use morphs if you are tracking a character over a period of a pregnancy in a story, instead of stuck with one size fits all pregnancy slider. And the normal clothes in D|S can be used possibly. Look at the PA esha's store.

  • What fandoms would YOU like to see? (springboarding from fan art discussion)

    Well, since you ask...

You guys have recently done a Star Trek week, and a Battlestar Galactica week, and a Pirates of the Caribbean week, and at least one (maybe more) Star Wars week, and what I can only guess is a GI Joe week.... It goes on and on.

But, considering that a new chapter just dropped into the Planet of the Apes film franchise (which did very well at the box-office, practically guaranteeing another one or two), I'm a little surprised that there hasn't been a corresponding entry along these lines for your themed offerings.

Has anyone mentioned yet that all the MightyMite products (at least all that I looked at) have no license information at all?  There's no way to add any licenses, but there's also no warning about them being editorial only.

All products have the standard daz License unless they are listed a having the Editorial License. They may also have Interactive and 3D Printing licenses as additional options.

Ok thanks, I was just confused because I thought for sure that some of those would be editorial only.

Browsing through them, I did see a couple with Editorial Licences:

    98249 Kitbashers 045 MMG3M
    98252 Bodysuit 085 MMKBG3M

That makes it even stranger. For example, Kitbashers 045 MMG3M has editorial licensing, but Kitbashers 034 MMG8M - a version with more recognizable details - has standard licensing.
Glancing through the first two pages, I see items that hew very close to 60s Batman, Jean Grey (X-Men), Imperial Guard (Star Wars), Red Robin, Nightwing, Daredevil, Shazam, Green Lantern, Shredder (TMNT), Deathstroke, Iron Man, Scarlet Witch, Wonder Woman, Scorpion (Spider-Man) - to name a few of the more recognizable examples. (There are more, but a complete list isn't necessary here.)
That's neither accusation nor speculation - just observation of visual similarities. I don't know their criteria for deciding license type, but Daz might need to hire someone knowledgeable in the history of comics if these items aren't being recognized as needing to be evaluated for potential editorial restrictions in the first place.

  • What fandoms would YOU like to see? (springboarding from fan art discussion)

One of the things I've been slowly accumulating, but not finding very many of, is stuff in the look and the style of 2001: A Space Oddyssey, and of Space: 1999, but not specifically tied to either one.  Something that has that sort of late-60s to mid-70s impression of what the then near future would look like.  A bit of mid-century mixxed in with gleaming white walls with automatic sliding doors and with large windows showing outer space or the surface of the Moon.

But, among other period-look stuff, I also want something looking about like the 1960s space-opera style of future, akin to the original Star Trek, but more generic... basically like the other space-adventure shows of the 1960s that had a similar sort of look.

Also, I'd like to find something Art Deco but retro-future-hightech, partly inspired by Fritz Lang's "Metropolis" in its outlook and archetecture.  Some people call this Decopunk.

Come to that, I've also seen a handful of things that look like a sort of present-day-as-if-designed-by-elves kind of design motif, and have grabbed a few of those.

Yeah, I wanna hop between various retro-future sub-genres.

Yeah, I'm not fond of competition either.  But I also found out that I'm also not fond of cooperation games.indecision  When the Myst series game "URU" came out it was a little too compute heavy for my computer, so I was somewhat disappointed, but a new machine shortly thereafter, fixed that. Then when they announced that URU would also be a multi-player on-line game I was all excited, but that fizzled because the networking tech at the time wasn't up-to-par.  Years later(many years later) URU was finally re-released in multi-player format on-line again and it worked well on modern networks.  "Cool" sez I , so I signed up, and started playing.  Ugh, I quickly found out that my fear of socializing extended to on-line game players too and I hated the smalltalk and awkwardness of meeting people on the "streets" of the underground city of  D'Ni.  So, I just wandered around the game's world, avoiding people like I do in real-life.blush  I gave up and went back to my solo version of URU, comfortable in my hermitness.  But there were places I really enjoyed in URU.  The rotating prison building, and the opera hall area of the city.  NIce places to go and just stand and examine the view.yes  Guess I'm just not a team player.devil

I happen to have read the short story that started the Silo stuff -- it's "Wool" by Hugh Howey, a well-done grim dystopia if that's what you fancy -- but I didn't read the rest he wrote when the story became a bestseller, because it so happens that's not what I fancy. And I didn't realize there was a video series.

Underground retreats from disasters on the surface are an old idea in science fiction -- "Tumithak of the Corridors" by Charles R. Tanner is from 1932, and obviously that's what the Morlocks did in The Time Machine, to say nothing of a couple of flavors in William Hope Hodgson's The Night Land, from 1905.

There are a lot of ways to visually present the basic concept. The question for me is, are the renderings going to hit viewers over the head with visual similarity to a recent work? If they are, I don't want to use that set by accident.

I first encountered Wool when it was first written and only available on Kindle. It was about the same time I was writing my first book. Hugh, the author of Wool, wrote in his spare time while working in a bookstore. He threw it up (self-published), never marketed it or utilized DRM (much like Stephanie Meyer did back in 2005 for Twilight) which allowed him to reach a wider audience. Ironically, despite his book being number 1 on kindle, any door he knocked on remained closed. Major book stores rejected his offer for author signings. At SF conventions he was ignored for the most part, while traditional published authors glowed in the limelight. Later he was hounded by agents & film producers and eventually he accepted an agent. The rest is history. Gavin Bocquet designed the set. He did some work on Indian Jones and the Star Wars Prequels. His work is unique and easily identifiable.

I've been gaming since I was a kid in the 80s. Once I was in my early 20s, I really got into MMORPG's starting with EverQuest and then a bunch of others. I believe I even met a PA here who goes by the name Fisty in World of Warcraft before I ever saw her products here. I have played open world solo games, but they never held my attention too long. I don't play any games much these days, but when I do, it's usually No Man's Sky by Hello Games. It's a humongous, procedurally generated space exploration/survival game that can be played solo or online with other people. There's millions of star systems to find in multiple different galaxies.

The first four images are some exterior shots of one of the bases I've built on one of the planets I found. The next two are just some random screenshots I took, and the last is an older one of what my character looked like before I made a few recent changes.

The next game I'm looking forward to is another title from Hello Games that's called Light No Fire. Rather than a sci-fi space game with millions of planets, it will be an online, fantasy based survival type of game on one planet that's supposed to be about the size of earth.

  • Rogue or Rouge?

LOL, I love that meme. As some people here know, I'm an officer in The Rebel Legion, an international Star Wars costume/cosplay club for "hero" costumers. We used to have a subgroup for women who cosplayed as hero pilots, that was called Rouge Squadron, a play on the original Star Wars Rogue Squadron, an X-Wing squadron in a series of novels. I still have the Rouge Squadron t-shirt with a picture of a female X-wing pilot captioned "Kiss Your Death Star Goodbye!"

(Note: It is legal. Disney & LucasFilm allow the Rebel Legion & 501st Legion (Stormtrooper & other villain cosplayers) to make merchandise with restrictions  such as only going to full members.)

  • Generation 3 Aiko and Hiro Appreciation Thread

No real story here, I just wanted to do something with this character, no ideas in mind. Opened the old file, tried a bunch of poses tell one stuck out. She needed something to do with her hands so I gave her a star, one star looked out of place so I added a bunch more. Ended up using a body suit instead of just a body paint geo-shell to mask her chest some 'cause the lighting and camera angle accentuated her cleavage a bit too much. Got in a fight with the Smooth Modifier over its handling of the bodysuit. Tried my new lighting technique, found the old one looked better for this image, but ended up post-working the two together anyway. Just a normal day at the office.

  • Decraniated for G8F

Still messing about with this idea intermittently. Come up with an electronics box, but I need to texture it and work out the grafting (obviously almost everything of the head above the underside of the box will be hidden). Modelled cutting the head at Y=163.311, but that was messy. May have to do something simpler, as I was risking having more than a single facet deep boundary to the graft - which risks infringing DAZ's copyright. Anyway, came up with a head box that's not too much of a blatant Star Wars rip-off, but is embossed with 'First Light' on the front, and 'Evazon Me Fecit' on the back (Latin for 'Evazon made me').

So, slow progress, but I'm learning lots.

    Regards,

    Richard

I have this feeling I've seen it before, maybe even own it, but couldn't find it after a good long search. But then I just got a new computer and I'm reinstalling everything. I'm betting it's a genesis 3 item, but couldn't find it.

I wouldn't mind some 1950-70's inspired Scifi ships/vehicles, weapons, clothing/space suits (some here would hate those cause some can be skimp wear look) , aliens/robots including aliens that look like they are wearing latex masks look. One of the reasons I like playing the Fallout 4 game as it has a 1950's scifi look can't watch the tv series but betting there'll be be some Fallot inspired products here soon and Doctor Who too which would love BUT would kill me cause like the Star Wars stuff would so would love to buy use but it'd be sad not to be able to sell art created with them maybe one day might cave in just for fan art creation at least with most of these inspired products would know what they were and not sell as art and accidently get into trouble unlike some other products

Yeah, it's true that practically everything draws on something that came before. And you can't copyright an idea. It's the specific expression that's copyrightable. (For people unfamiliar with the subject: copyright, patent, and trademark are different areas of intellectual property, They protect different interests and don't work the same way.)

The state of various arts causes many items from competitors look fundamentally similar. Anything that doesn't have those characteristics won't be functional in the same way. World War II fighter aircraft have a look, e.g. So do modern stealth fighters.

The style of the times also makes competing items look. Cars: the modern ones mostly look a lot alike. Mid-20th century science fiction book covers: they have a look, too, and I've intentionally rendered a piece to recall that style (but not a particular paperback cover). If you go back to the right era in science fiction, rockets always look like V-2s. And so on.

Star Wars has obvious genre influences from earlier in the 20th century, and was an intentional homage to the same. It also takes some visual inspiration from other cultures.

General similarity isn't a problem. Neither is marked similarity in form dictated by function, or historical homages, or creative recombination of existing ideas. If we couldn't do this, we couldn't create at all.

What's disturbing, though, is the idea of accidentally nearly replicating something non-functional and visually distinctive from a recent work, because I never saw the recent work. I at least want to know what the work is, and what the element is, so I can decide for myself if I think it's too close a likeness, too distracting even if permissible, and so on.

In the past I figured some of the historical clothing absurdities (that weren't inspired by the obvious) were inspired by movies I didn't see. But I mostly didn't buy those, or bought them only for particular individual elements. I'd never use the whole thing at once. With other sets, though the genre and most prominent inspiring works are obvious, there's nothing unique and distinctive about any individual item. So it didn't matter.

There are only so many credible ways to arrange the human face, and with billions of people on the planet, there are a fair number of people who bear startling likeness to others they're not related to. I still think I see one non-editorially licensed model in the shop that's very likely inspired by a particular real person ... that even I recognize, because he's not a movie actor.

I'm no longer sure I can keep track well enough.
